mamacath-pull up a chair and make yourself at home. sorry you have to be here, but as others have said, this is a great place to share, learn and commiserate.
Picked up my shirt, etc. for The Wellness House walk in Hinsdale on Sunday-sure hope it isn't as hot as today as the shirts are long-sleeved. Looking forward to a fun time.
Wish I could walk with you gals, but work prevents me from having any fun

HELP! I had my 2nd AC this afternoon with EMEND (oral 125 mg) and Decadron in pre-meds. I have since taken Compazine (per nurses recommendation) and ginger (1000mg) but still feeling VERY queasy! Any suggestions???
Thanks,
CC0 -
Welcome macamath. Started chemo 15 days ago and getting my hair shaved tomorrow. Hair is falling out more than both of my golden retrievers combined!

C-squared-- Do you also have Ativan or Zofran or maybe more Compazine? Call the nurse again as I don't know if you can mix them. I had TAC but was lucky to not be queasy. I hope you find what works for you!

If I plan accordingly I can do a daytime walk....

I work from home (for now, grounded by BC) and live near Route 64 & Kirk Road. I would love to walk. Let's have a plan. Welcome Mamacath...sorry you have to be here.
I am so glad to have found all of you. It's my reality check twice a day. When all seems unbearable I head to BCO.

Invisible...64 and Kirk? Gosh all the times I go to Steinmart I wonder if I ever ran into you! I'm over in South Elgin, just off 31 behind the Anderson Animal Shelter!
Let me know when you girls decide on a date for a walk...I'll try to meet up. But please note I said "walk"...running on concrete? Uh....nope.
Waving hello to everyone....for those in tx and dealing with queasiness, call your nurses and ask for suggestions. There are many drugs to "play around with" until you are feeling "ok". Don't sit at home and suffer.0 -
So far I'm free on the 10th
C-squared if the nausea meds aren't working there are many others. The others are a bit more costly so the oncs don't prescribe them as the 1st course of action. But if you are still have issues with the meds you are taking then get your onc to change your meds. There is no need to suffer from nausea these days on meds. Only a rare few have no success with the current meds.
BTW my mom used to always eat lemon drops (hard lemon candy) for nausea.

I'm in for the 10th too. (c:
C-Squared- How are you today?
Morning all!

Hi all- Thank you so much for your responses. I feel comforted by all the options and by your support. I've been in contact with my onc ans she is proposing I take steroids to combat the nausea. So far this morning I've had Emend (80mg), Excedrin migraine (500 mg), Zofran (8mg), and Compazine (10mg). I don't have any Dexamethasone with me and I am at work. She also prescribed Ambien to sleep at night.
Lago- what are the additional anti-nausea meds? I've also read about Ativan or Xanax to help curb the nausea but the onc hasn't recommended either of those and I hesitate to request it.
Thanks again to all!

Forgot to mention the onc also offered to have me come in for an IV of anti-nausea meds but I heseitate.., how much can my body take without OD'ing? CC
0 -
C-squared I didn't want to mention this but I actually had no nausea. Chemo gave me other special gifts that many folks didn't get so don't think I got off scott free.

It was a family member that is and MD and works for a major pharmaceutical company that told me before I started that there are many other drugs just a bit more costly. BTW you will be surprised how much a body can take. I did get steroids before during and the day after chemo as well as Emmend for a few days. I think I was prescribed those other meds but didn't need them.

Early afternoon to you all. Had an early call ( someone whom I think I am going to start helping out now and then ) as well as a trip to Mt. Vernon to the V.A. In a few minutes I will be on my way to Marion V.A. and then back home to work what is left of my work day. Going to be a long day for me, but have to keep going and do it.
Hope you are all have a fantastic day. Wishing you all well.
Hugs, Jackie

Jackie, Are the trips to the V.A. for check-ups? If so, I hope they go just fine. I'll be thinking about you.
Yes, the lemon drops did really help with the nausea for me. They do need to be the old-fashioned hard ones with the sugary coating on the outside. I think Brach's makes the original ones. I found them at Walgreen's and went through several bags of them during the journey.
Wish I was close enough to walk with you gals. It's always more fun to walk when you have a group and somebody to talk to. So glad you're getting it planned.
I hope everyone has a great weekend. We don't have much planned except for more work on the renovation house and our bowling banquet on Sunday night. There's always plenty to do around here, though!

Great news Invisible. We feel so good when something about the cancer txs or tests turned out to be good news and almost something to celebrate. I'm so happy for you.
I have good news to share too. Yes, my trip to Mt. Vernon was just a regular PC check-up, but the one to Marion was my every 3 month oncology check-up. All my blood work came back perfect again. The cancer marker test takes longer so we don't know about it, but everything else looked wonderful. I also did a test this time for protein in the urine.......due to my high blood pressure and that turned out great as well. When done through a urine sample......they can count micro amts. to BE sure that your level is where it should be and mine was fine. Blood pressure was quite good as well. 124/72. I couldn't ask for more.
Dh and I celebrated with the Blizzard of the Month -- Confetti Cake.....oh double yum. Sure can't do that too often.
I'm pooped......not sure if it is because we crammed so much in or that it was good news or just what. But.....I'll sleep well tonight I'm sure.
I'll be looking for you all in the morning.
Hugs, Jackie

Hi Ladies- I told my DH that I think I am going to like this IL thread! Thanks for the warm welcome!
C-squared- I hope you are feeling better! Starting AC in late May...ugh
Having a pet scan next week-is that worse than MRI? (I hated MRIs)
Taking this all one day at a time...0 -
Wow, sounds like lots of good news around here to start the weekend. Clean scans, good test results....all yeah! I have my 3 month ONC follow-up in a couple weeks and sure hope I get those good reports. Mamacath, I had a PET/CT scan just over a year ago. I don't remember too much except that they shot some radioactive dye into me and I had to wait around for a half hour or so before they could run the testing. I think they scanned from the top of my head to my knees or something. My ONC had me view the scans along with him on a big computer monitor. That was interesting. What are those two things? Oh, those would be your ears. Then what are those? Oh, those would be your tissue expanders. Oh, I get the picture! Well, anyway, everything checked out fine. Whew!
I am still hanging in here with one very stubborn drain.
Don't forget to let me know if you can make lunch downtown next Thursday. Have a great weekend.

Great news Jackie! Yum Blizzards! I consider it a victory if I am able to drive by a Dairy Queen

Mamacath - I have not had a Pet scan - I had a bone scan and Ct with barium & contrast (chest, abdomen and pelvis). I'm sure others can answer. You are going to like this thread!
C2 I hope you are feeling better.

I had my first trip out yesterday on my own. I got my color and cut done and now feel like a person again, lol. My DH is taking a motorcycle course this weekend and will be gone from 10am-7pm both today and Sunday. So much time to myself and I can't really get anything done! I'm thinking about going to the matinee and seeing "The Hunger Games". I need to work in the garden but can't lift the dirt bags and it is going to rain here anyways. I might as well treat myself to a lazy weekend right!
That Blizzard sounds good! I'm an ice cream freak and was having a big time craving last night that I fought off. I think the craving is going to win today though.

Ya I need to work in he garden but can't lift anything either since my exchange was just done on Thursday. Oh wait that is what I hav a hubby for. !!!!!! Lol
Now I'df I could. Just figure out what I want to plant since I managed to kill all my seedlings in my greenhouse. .0 -
IT WAS A VERY DARK AND STORMY NIGHT in Centralia. Oh my......every time I awoke there was crack, rumble, boom, boon, bang crack.......what a symphony. Every time I was sure I would not get back to sleep but did fine. Feeling fit as a fiddle this a.m. I know I am blessed with being able to sleep through nearly anything......so some of that had to be intrusively loud to actually cause me to wake.
Going this morning to "meet" with this man who needs a little help. He has lost a leg from PAD and cannot get around too well. So, from time to time needs someone to go pick up items for him. We will meet this morning and see how things go. It may not be the right fit......though certainly sounds like something I could handle. Just have to watch time periods......but since I am "in town" every day to feed the feral cats.....as well as go to my job.....I could fit this in I'm sure.
I hope you all have a really great week-end. Oh...almost forgot......if you are going to be in Mt. Vernon Spunky....let me know. We might be able to arrange something -- even if just a 20 min. coffee break or something. I live about 15 or 20 mins. from Mt. Vernon.
See you all later.
Hugs, Jackie

Thanks again to all for your concern and support! So far so good today after a long couple of days & nights. Just waiting on my Neulasta shot to come into the pharmacy and hoping those SE don't interrupt a potentially peaceful day.
So glad to hear all of the good news floating around in IL. LisaK I hope the weather clears up here (I'm in Gurnee) so you can motivate your DH do get the garden started.
Wishing you all a weekend filled with delight!
