Joan.....I think we all have to have a lot more conversations with your gd. I love kids for this reason. Once we were all kids ( sigh -- very long ago ) and kids have not heard all the no's and that's impossible, and YOU can't do that yet...........so they are so wide open. I'm sure they help many of us KEEP seeing possibilities.
I am thinking about every one today and just visualizing success --- with anything you do.
Hugs, Jackie

Good morning! Welcome Beata. Healing vibes for chemo Roula and your foot Joan. Congrats on the job and have a fantastic time Lisa. Googleberg! And you're next Lago. Hi Donna. Another great quote Lady. Lisa maybe your dd and Joan's gd can get together and take it on the road! Peace to all the sisters on this thread.

Sneaking out of bed to say thanks to all of you! How I wish the last chemo was not an icky one and we could all just get up and go and move on... Not so for me. I'll be heading back to bed here in a few, just can't stay up for any length of time yet. Not sure I said, but I have my single mastectomy scheduled -- it's July 10th. I feel so torn about this surgery, as I'm sure many of you can relate. But I'll concentrate on that next week, when I'm feeling better. Hugs, ladies.

Invisible so glad the tissue is healing ok! I had tissue necrosis and several additional surgeries due to it. Can be so frustrating but the goal is healing and it sounds like you are on your way. I am so glad for you. Yes it is the Dr. Ahn at CDH. I am going to try to call yet this week to get in.
Beata the feeling of fear are totally normal. The range of emotions will change sometimes minute by minute. It is a grieving process. This is a great place because you can say what you are feeling and not feel you are too weak or whatever. They are all normal and we have all felt them. This is a place you can say what is on your heart and you will be understood and not judged. I have said it helps to be able to say it out loud or in our case hear to write it out. And to hear the validation that yes it is ok to feel that way.
Calico so good to hear what you have to say about Dr. Ahn. Thanks so much!

Yea, Lisa! so glad you found a job! You are so right. It is hard to raise kids on one pay check in this day and age. Enjoy your trip!
Lago....I like mushrooms and I'll try them. Yes......send out the recipes!
Beata...So glad that you found us. Welcome. We all relate to your fears and know they are so real and all of this is so scary. We will be here to help you through it all. I am so glad that there are others in your area that can give you extra help. It was this very fear that led me to start this thread in the middle of the night. Just take everything one step at a time, lean on us when you feel the need, and keep moving forward. You can do it.
Joan.....Aren't grandchildren wonderful? They say the darndest things! I'm hoping to have the older two grandsons for a week each this summer. I love the one-on-one and it gives me a chance to spoil each of them separately.
I'm getting ready to head out to the library. What are you reading? I just finished Lisa Scottoline's book "Save Me" and I couldn't put it down. I'm just about done with John Hart's "Iron House." If you haven't read any of his books, look him up. He's written four of them now and each is outstanding. I'm always looking for new authors.
Hugs to all of you in treatments.
Rita

Beata, I do not post often now that I am five years out from cancer, but I love kids and I really love DS kids. If you need chemo and need me to watch your babies while you receive a treatment, I can do that. I can find Western Springs and watch the kids while you get treatments or while you rest up. File me away as a potential helper. I am a grandmother just love kids and I can come for a day with no charge!

Good evening ladies - finished TCH #3, feeling very tired, going night night. I hope you all have a wonderful night. Hugs to all of you!

Last post before the big event tomorrow. I had the SN mapping today. Bee sting my left foot. It is a bee sting if the bee is the size of the one they're using to advertise Field/MSI/? some museum's new bug exhibit. On the other hand, neither lasted very long. The Northwestern tech was very understanding and supportive. I swear I can still feel the tracer going through the lymph system, I keep getting a burning sensation. (If I didn't whine about something you'd think it wasn't me posting.)
I understand that I'll be ICU for a couple of days and so I won't be posting or even lurking for a bit. I'll give my DH my logon information so he can do a quick post for me when he comes up for air. He's going to be pretty occupied all weekend with our youngest's graduation and so he may not be able to get to it before the weekend is over. Maybe one of the DDs would be a better place to delegate.
Everyone seems to be doing pretty well and that's great! Lago does the mushroom benefit apply to all mushrooms or just the white button ones? I do love marinated portobellas on the grill in the summertime. I'd love to be able to justify their expense as "medically necessary".
Take care.

Yes, Lynn. ((((Hugs to you)))). We will be waiting to hear how you sailed through surgery. You have a great surgery team. I saw Dr. K today and darn, forgot to mention to him that he needs to be at his best for you tomorrow. He officially declared me done with the lat surgery process. Yeah! Will visit him early this Fall to discuss the nip thing, but I have my mind pretty much made up to go with the 3-D tattoos.
It is going to be pretty warm this weekend. I do not tolerate the heat and humidity very well at all after going through chemo. I have heard other ladies say the same thing. Not sure why that is.0 -
I felt a lump two years prior to being diagnosed. Yes,it's very very frustrating.

Lynn, I'm thinking of you tonight, and will be looking forward {with Joan} to hearing how you sailed through surgery. Hugs to you, and congrats to your daughter. Your DH can hold down the fort for a little while. You made me laugh with your comment about the bees at the Museum, whichever one it is, so you're doing well. I agree with you on that "little sting" thing they say. Whine all you want to now, and we'll be ready for more when you're back to posting. Until then, try to get some sleep.

Hi ladies.... Just wanted to pop in to wish Lynn well tomorrow!!!! We will all be there in spirit holding your hand!!!! Sending you gentle hugs and quick healing vibes!!!!!
Roula and beata.... (and I think there was atleast one more I've seen come on board here)....welcome, although I hate that we have to continue "welcoming" anyone to this club! But look forward to getting to know you! LOVE this group!
Sorry I've been so busy lately, I've been trying to keep up with reading.... Trying to!! Work has me crazy busy and now my daughters out of school.....and we have the craziest summer this year, so busy with stuff. I guess maybe because we had to put "life" on hold in 2011??? We sure are making up for it??? We don't have a free weekend until September....crazy.
I hope all of you are enjoying this weather and doing well..... Let me know the next outing/get together....I really need to ditch work and have lunch with the girls!

Hello everyone,
I am new this thread and have just started posting on another one the last two weeks. I live in a small town in western Illinois - Warsaw. It is located on the border of the Mississippi where Iowa, Illinois and Missouri meet. Hope it is ok to join in on occassion.
I was diagnosed Feb. 1, 2010. Had BMX due to BRACA 1 positive and being TN. Stage IIb. Also did immediate reconstruction with expanders. Have since finished chemo and reconstruction as well as a profolactic hysterectomy. My surgeries were done in Peoria. I am thankful my PCP suggested I go away from my local choices and do not regret the one way 2 1/2 hour trip it took to get to my doctors/surgeries. Thankfully my oncologist has satellite office 30 minutes from my home so chemo was done closer.
Hope all of you in treatment or preparing for surgery stay positive and remember that there may be down days, but they made me realize how special the good days are!!!! (I have two daughters 6yrs and 14yrs which I hug and kiss everyday!!!!)
Stay strong and I would love to know if anyone lives near!

Lynn thinking of you today. I know you'll do great. (BTW yes it does have to be the white button mushrooms but all mushrooms have great benefits, just not all the same).
Welcome Kellycbk. Check in anytime!
I'll put together some mushrooms recipes in the future. Had a jobless meltdown last night. Just frustrated that all I may be worth is minimum wage/retail job. I must have kicked Ghadhi's puppy in my last life or something. I'll figure out something.

Wish there were not so many new young women to welcome here lately, but welcome to all of you. Wish you didn't have to be here, but glad you found it. There are no better women anywhere than the ones on this site. I know I've missed a lot, but just now trying to catch up reading.
Welcome kellycbk, from another triple negative sister. I did not test for BRACA, because I was almost 61 at dx. Unusual for triple neg at that age, but I always do it that way. I know of some good docs in Peoria, but so glad you could go closer to home for chemo. I'm six years out now, and going strong at 67 years young. Is Warsaw anywhere near Quincy?
Roula, hoping for minimal se's for you this time.
Joan, I can't believe it. You have to give those orthos a rest! I'm with you on the heat and humidity, but not just since chemo. I actually fainted a couple of times in church when I was a young teenager. Not looking forward to the weather this weekend, but mostly these days, I am just happy to feel well no matter the weather!
Beata, hugs to you. Maybe let neighbors know what's going on, and some may step up. There are some here who did chemo with young children at home. They might have some pointers for you.
Have a great day, all! Have to go water my new shrubs and flowers, and no rain in sight.
Hi Lago! Miss seeing you, but thinking of you, and fingers crossed for a job you love.
Pat

Lynn: Thinking of you today.
Lago: Praying you get a job soon. I wish I knew more people in the Chicago area. I am a great networker down in central Illinois.
Kelly: I sent you a PM.

Lago, you're worth a lot more, and a lot to all of us here too. It's just the economy now. I know many people in your situation, and my DD in Madison tells us she knows graduates from 2009 who are still looking. Hang in there, and it will happen.
Sadly, I like my mushrooms on pizza. Wonder if that negates the benefits.
0 -
I love mushrooms on pizza but that's why I make my own. I use the Mama Mary's thin pizza crust. For cheese I use part skim mozzarella (Trader Joes).
1. spray crust with oil oil
2. put a thin layer of tomato sauce
3. sprinkle spices (garlic, pepper, oregano, basil)
4. Put a thin layer of slightly cooked spinach (in microwave for a several seconds)
5. next put on shredded mozzarella. Remember the more you put the higher the fat & calories
6. Now place the mushrooms* piled high on top. I use the entire package.
7. spray again with olive oil.*Mushrooms shrink a lot. It may seem like a lot of mushrooms but it will shrink by at least 1/2. The mushrooms have such great flavor. My husband won't order out pizza anymore. He prefers mine.
IMO this is a much healthier alternative than order out pizza.

Warm welcome to Kellycbk. Sounds like you found some good doctors in Peoria and have gotten through treatment. Looks like kjiberty/Karen is near you. That area of Illinois is so beautiful along the Mississippi River.
Lynn.... off in "lala land" somewhere this morning. Waiting to hear how things went.
Lago.... I know a graphic artist around here who started her own design business working from a home office. She got involved in our local chamber and stays really busy designing business/company logos and rack pieces. I had her design my biz logo several years ago. Just a thought.... she reminds me of you.
I got up early to start watering my perennials and potted plants outdoors. Things are going to bake this weekend before we may get some rain next week. Two of my high school girlfriends are coming in tonight for our annual "girls weekend" so have to pick up the house and get my act together today. DH is also coming home tonight from his retirement job ... working on our property back in SD. I told him he could just as well stay there thru the weekend as he would be at his own risk around here!
Hugs to all going through treatments. Stay cool.

Lynn good luck!
Kellycbc the journey continues in varying intensities doesn't it? Some days you sail through and some days it kind of hits you. But today is the day we concentrate on and isn't it a lovely one!
Have a good weekend everyone.

Welcome Kelly -- all else have expressed the sentiments that go along with your "finding" this club. We'd love to hang out a sign -- permanently closed but that is not going to happen very soon. Until then, this is a great place to hang out, visit, vent, and share --- anything or everything.....including great pizza recipes.
Lago....well, you know me. I always think EVERYTHING happens or sometimes doesn't for a reason. Even I would have to say though --- it's about time for the "mystery" to be revealed and handled. Most of the time you can deal with just about anything -- if you know why. I'm with ya in spirit. Hope the tide turns for you in a really positive way...and soon.
Lynn ((((hugs)))) and if it feels crowded where you are it is all of us standing over your sugeon's shoulder making sure it all goes well.
Jenn -- glad you checked in. I had been wondering about you and was about to pm, but won't have to now. What a difference a yr. makes, huh !!!!! I recall last yr. with all the trepidation.....and look at you now. All I can say is 'way to go'.
Pat/Smerf --- I always love seeing you pop in here and Susan too. Beata...Susan/zap is a teacher, and very loving grandmother. Your children would be in wonderful hands.
Roula...hang in there. One of the good things about chemo ( well it was for me ) is that moment in time when you realize your coming out of the se's and getting 'normal' again. I had 8 rounds -- so I really appreciated that feeling of starting the regeneration process.
Waving to Timbuktu.
Hope you all have a really great Friday to get you in great shape for the week-end. Waving hi to Wendy, and Rita as well.
Hugs, Jackie

Waving to all.

Good Luck, Lynn! I'm thinking about you and sending good vibes!
Kelly, I know where Warsaw is! I lived for over 20 years in Macomb. I love your area! My surgeon is also in Peoria. I went with one of the lady breast surgeons there and am so glad that I did! So where are you getting your chemo?
Thanks for the pizza recipe, Lago! I need to look to see if I can find the Momma Mary's crust around here. If not, I need to adapt that but that should be easy. We like the thin crusts, too. I'll certainly give it a try.
I'm off for a short morning walk. I'm trying to get back into my walking routine, which I have allowed to lapse because of my feet. I'm starting with about a mile and hoping to build it back up gradually to my three miles. I have no self-motivation so it was easy to get away from the program. Hopefully, I'll be able to get back with it.
Everyone have a good weekend.

Hi All! I am just popping in to say Hi! It has been busy around this board! Lots of chatting to catch up on. I wanted to welcome the new gals...I am sorry you have to be here...but if you must, you are in GREAT company. To those just getting started with treatment....LIFE GETS BETTER! I finished chemo a little over a year ago and finished all of my reconstruction....I feel great. Have faith...look to the future!!
I have an easy mushroom recipe I learned in a cooking class I took in Tuscany a few years ago. It is SO good and SO easy. I bring it to parties all the time and everyone asks for the recipe. So simple......
Mushroom Bruschetta
1 package whole mushrooms - clean with a damp cloth and then slice as THIN as possible with a sharp knife
1 clove garlic - minced fine
2 T lemon juice
2 T EVOO
1/4 cup fresh Italian flat leaf parsley - chopped fine
Salt and Pepper
1 baguette (I use a whole grain or multi grain) sliced on an angle
lowfat organic cream cheese or goat cheese
Add mushrooms, garlic, EVOO, lemon juice, parsley and S&P together and mix. Put in a bowl, cover and put in the fridge for 1-2 hours.
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Put bread slices on a cookie sheet and bake for 10 minutes. Turn them over and bake for 10 more minutes to toast it.
When bread comes out of oven, smear some cream cheese or goat cheese on each slice. Top with mushroom mixture. Serve.
SO GOOD!

Thin crust means less bread (and calories). Here's a few I haven't tried yet.
OK Feeling better now. Nothing a work out can't fix. Just a bit frustrated with the placement pimps (recruiters) get me all worked up for nothing again.
<rant>Monday, 5:30 the called with an opportunity but wouldn't know till 8:30am Tuesday. So all worked out and ready to go at 8:30… no call. Finally at 9:15 I emailed the recruiter asking if this was a go. She replied at 9:30 that it was pushed off a day an will let me know if it is a go. Guess she thought I was going to wait all day. I knew at that point it wasn't but it would have been nice to let me know that it wasn't moving forward. </rant>
WARNING: Fullerton Ave will be closed between Children's hospital (Halsted St.) and Lakeshore Dr. tomorrow. They are moving patients to the new facility 5am - 12 midnight.

Lago you have every reason to be frustrated!

Here's my chicken vetable soup recipe. Sorry no picture. Note that the mushrooms give it wonderful flavor. This is very healthy and low cal unless you eat gallons of it at a time:
------------------------------------------------
Lago's Chicken Vegetable soup
------------------------------------------------Ingredients
• 1 chicken (or chicken parts. Dark meat more flavor but white me less a calories)
• 1 large onion
• 1" chunk cut carrots
• 1 inch parsnip
• lots of white mushrooms (adds lots of flavor-very important)
• a few red potatoes (already cooked)
• bok choy (not the baby kind)
• a little tomato powder to taste (optional purchase at Spice House)
• leeks
• broccoli
• salt & pepper to tasteDirections
- Cook the chicken in water for about 10 minutes skimming off the crap that floats to the top.
- Simmer for about 30 minutes or till chicken is cooked
- removed chicken
- Put the veggies in based on how long they would take to cook. So the carrots would go in first. The potatoes last. I put the green part of the bok choy in when I'm ready to serve. The hot soup really cooks it quickly.
- While veggies are cooking debone and remove skin from chicken and cut up into bite sized pieces.
- Toss chicken back in the pot when done.
* Taste better the next day. Be sure to skim off the fat the next day once it has been chilled.
** When storing separate the veggies/chicken form stock or they will get mushy. Don't freeze the carrots or potatoes.
*** Best diet food if you don't use too many potatoes and have twice as much vegetable than chicken.
