    Welcome Kelly-check in often.

I'm going to be in Baltimore in August and was thinking of giving Vinnie a visit. Once upon a time I had his contact info, but lost it somewhere along this journey.

Thinking of Lynn and looking forward to hearing all went well.

Going to an outside wedding at Gaelic park tonight then heading to Bluesfest tomorrow-hope I don't melt.  At what temperature does silicone boil?Surprised

Thanks, Adey. I'm totally serious-who wants to head to NOLA to see Vinnie?  His work looks amazing-and as much as I like Baltimore, it "ain't N'orluhns."

Hi all- Well I guess I got too excited too soon about finishing chemo and landed myself in the hospital.  I'm receiving IV fluids, IV antibiotics and had two units of blood (so far).  I'm feeling much better than yeaterday (when I went to ER) but WBC is still .2, platelets 21, and hemoglobin 7.4.  My temp was 101.8 when I got here. The rash I have on my arms, chest and back is on fire and dermatology said it follows a pattern of sun exposure.  She gave me an ointment but warned to expect it may take a couple of weeks to resolve.  I have no voice left as a result of thrush (makes it very difficult to communicate needs with staff - but they are taking good care of me.)  I'm hoping to go home sooner than later.  Please keep positive, healing thoughts coming my way.  Thanks!

C-Squared:  So sorry to hear you are in the hospital.  I have had red spots come and go all over my body for the past two weeks.  They are big and splotchy.  They started out as hives, and now I don't know what they are.  You said your doc said they were patterns of sun exposure.  Have you been out in the sun????? I have not.

Kjiberty- I am fair skinned and avoid the sun as much as possible.  This time of year I use sunscreen as a base after moisturizer.  I believe the dermatologist was referring to sun-exposed areas of skin, regardless of how recent the exposure was.  Do your hives itch?  Do they get worse after treatment?  What is your regimen?  According to dermatologist, I got them from AC and she said it was specifically the Adriamyacin (though used the generic name).  Mine are large, red and diffuse.  Interestingly, they do not itch.

If I remember right, C-Squared, several of us advised you to take it easy until well after your last infusion.  Please heed our advise now.

kjiberty - when I was taking steroids and/or benadryl, my hives flattened out and became red splotches.  Sometimes they just ran all together into a huge patch.  But as long as I was taking something that reduced the inflamation they no longer looked like what we normally think of as hives.  As they got better and receded, I could lightly write on my arm and trunk with my finger nails and the hives or the red splotches would appear exactly as written.  You can have some fun with it if you choose. I woud write messages to my DD to lighten the mood.

c-squared.....gentle healing hugs.  I'm so sorry you have had so much to deal with all at once.  The A/C is a toughie as far as chemo goes ---- I had all mine in winter and was hard to actually do much -- let alone over-do.  Hopefully, you will have a short hospital stay and then be able to rest and relax your way into getting some good distance between you and that chemo.  Chemo does have a cumulative effect so it takes some time for your cells to regenerate well.  You will get there....just take smaller steps for awhile.

    Hugs, Jackie

Thanks for your kind thoughts ladies.  Doxie I assure you it was nothing I did or over-did.., I didn't have the energy.., just a cumulative effect of my body's reaction to DD AC.  Sounds kind of harsh while I'm lying here trying to get my strength, energy and health back.  I agree with Illinois Lady, A/C is a toughie as far as chemo goes ---- was hard to actually do much -- let alone over-do.

Hope you all have a s/e free weekend and strength for the days ahead.

c-squared - sorry to hear you're in the hospital.  I hope you get your strength back, as I see you still have your BMX ahead of you.  I also recently had hives and then blisters in the sun exposed areas - it must be the tamoxifen (I had 70 spf on?).

C-squared hang in there. The red devil is one of the tough ones.

Just came back from seeing Pink Ribbons with Robo. Opening night. Only one other "couple" in the theater. No big surprises but good food for thought. It's currently showing at the Gene Siskel Film Center.

c-squared - I'm so sorry that my posting sounded harsh.  I didn't mean it to.  I meant it more as friendly ribbing. In an earlier post you sounded so excited to be on your last infusion that I just assumed you had overexerted yourself.  It's so easy to do without doing much of anything, even if it is just fixing yourself something to eat.  My last TC kept me flat on my back for 4 days.  I know that AC is much worse.

Again, I'm sorry to have upset you when you needed comforting instead.

c-squared - I hope you are doing better and are home & healing.

Lynn - we all wish you a speedy recovery.

    Welcome Beata!

I am loving all the mushroom talk! I love all types of mushrooms. The recipes are making hungry.

3 weeks and 1 day after my BMX I am now drainless :-) - Unfortunately my second surgery set my recovery back and I am still under house arrest until at least 6/18.

Hugs to all - thanks for being here!

Invisible:  Congrats for getting your drain out.

CSquared:  I hope you are out of the hospital soon.  Mine started like yours and now are the same way yours are.  The are splotchy, itch, come and go.  Usually, arms, lets, feet, hands.  They can even disappear in 10-15 minutes.  SOme can stay all day.  I am taking taxotere and cytoxan.  One more treatment and I am over this beast and then on to rads.  My throat is kiling me today (had treatment on Thursday).  Just rinsed.  Hopefully, it will help.

Good morning....aha -- at last, my first Saturday off in about three weeks.  Of course, like anyone who works, Saturday becomes a work day for home to catch up.  I have lots to catch up on too, as there some on-going projects that Dh and I need to try to complete.  We finally were able to move the dog house in the dog pen.  A big Amish built one ( we wanted big so we could heat it in winter ) but they don't have air-conditioning.  Then we are going to make the pen smaller --- they don't really like the pen, so hopefully we can get them out more and "boundary" train them.

So good to hear from you Invisible.  I never had drains, but they sound so awful....I'm thrilled you are over that hump.  Again I think of how great you feel before you learn your diagnosis and the somewhat debilitating things that occur afterwards.  In looking back....I never felt better in my life -- so it is really trying to get over a diagnosis  that takes you downwards before you go up.  Here's wishing a nice gentle climb back up.

Can't believe I'm saying this....but I'm starting to wish for rain.  Going to be very warm this week-end here ( 90's ) so it will cool us off and settle some dust.

Hope you all have a great week-end -- (((( c-squared )))) and I'll be checking in later with you alll.

    Hugs, Jackie

C-Squared, I'm so sorry you're in the hospital! Did you have the Nuelasta shot? This last DD AC has been hard on me as well, but not as hard as on you (I'm knocking on wood here). I hope they get you feeling better so you can get out of there! Gentle hugs, K.

Oh Kelly, I wish I would have been fishing with you.  We love to fish but we've been so busy with other projects that our pontoon boat is still sitting to the side of the house.  Maybe we'll get it summerized this next weekend and into the water.

Yeah Jackie on your day off! We are heading to the Tremont Turkey festival in about an hour.  They have wonderful turkey sandwiches (as well as other turkey items) on their menu.  There's outdoor music and a craft fesitval also.  We missed it last year so I'm anxious to go again.  I just love summer.

Kristin~ I'm glad to hear that you are doing well.., you made it and it's almost over.  I hope your se's remain managable.  I did have the Neulasta shot after each AC.  So much for that theory! LOL  But as the onclolgist just explained to me "this isn't typical".  In addition to low platelets, low WBC count, low hemoglobin, & low potassium, I've got a thrush presenting wih an unusual chronic loss of voice which is "normally" resolved with medication (Diflucan) - not mine!  Then there's the hives/rash.  He really wants to get to the bottom of all of this.., I guess the silver lining to being in the hospital.., they will come to me and hopefully we'll figure it all out and move on.  I'm still planning surgery for July 5th.  Thanks for your kind thoughts and gentle hugs.  I wish you an uneventful recovery from chemo!

C-Squared, don't ya just love the "this isn't typical" line. Sigh. I'm so sorry this happened to you -- and with the Nuelasta to boot! I'm glad you're getting the care you need, though. And I'm doing well today, tired, but made it over to Bed Bath & Beyond and bought new sheets. I've spent so much time in bed I can't stand the old ones I had on there. As for now, though, I'm going to pop a half an Ativan and relax inside in the air conditioning --while my entire family is outside enjoying the pool. Boo. I'll be out there soon, though, I hope. Anyone know how long we're supposed to stay out of the sun because of chemo? I'm loaded up with sunscreen and ready to get out there...

    Hey all-

KristinFro- don't miss out on all the fun with your family- I had just finished Adr/Cytoxin and was beginning Taxol when summer came 2 years ago and I still went out with my kids.  I was just very careful with sunscreen and I stayed under the shade or an umbrella with SPF of 50. I relaxed back in my reclining lawn chair and enjoyed their laughter!! I know everyone reacts differently but hope this helps.

    Good thoughts to all,

    Kelly

These two just seemed to go together:

It is a fact of life that we find ourselves in unpleasant demoralizing situations which we can neither escape nor control. We can keep our morale and spirits high by using both coping and hoping humor. Coping humor laughs at the hopelessness in our situation. It gives us the courage to hang in there, but it does not bring hope. The uniqueness of hoping humor lies in its acceptance of life with all its dichotomies, contradictions, and incongruities. It celebrates the hope in human life. From one comes courage, from the other comes inspiration.
