Illinois ladies facing bc

Hi Ladies!
I'm new and was going to wait until I had an official diagnosis, but I have either a very silly question or one of utmost importance (which is what it is in my head). I actually asked the Nurse Practioner this when she called to get my history and explain what is going to happen tomorrow.
What does one wear to the first appointment with the 'Team' to find out approximately how much of your breast(s) they are going to remove?
Thank you for any suggestions (especially if they confirm my tube top suspicion)

Heidi - sorry you may be joining us but glad you found this amazing group of ladies. When you go to your appointment they will have you put a gown on anyway so don't worry about what to wear. A tube top would work - especially in this heat! LOL!
So glad to hear you gals are knocking out chemo!!!! It feels better when it's DONE! A year from now you won't even be thinking about that nasty old chemo so much anymore. I am praying for minimal side effects....hugs!
Lago - I could also do the walk - especially if it's with all my ILL BC gals! Put me on your list to participate. Let me know details when it gets closer.
This heat is something else! I keep praying for rain........

I wore a Tee shirt and jeans--they made me put a gown on anyway so they find it easier. But I think it depends on just what u'r going for too (if u wear a gown) just be comfortable that's all. and Unfortunately welcome not one wants to be here but it is a nice place for info and making friends who really understand what u are going thru. Let us know what happens

Welcome! Just where whatever you feel comfortable in. They are going to make you strip anyway from the waist up. Then you get to put the "cute" gown on and freeze your butt off.

If you realized how powerful your thoughts are, you would never think a negative thought.

Jackie,
So true. Thanks for the quote.

Roula and kjiberty Happy dancing! (cracks me up everytime I see it).
Heidi a big welcome! Just wear what you want. I tend to wear jeans most of the time. I don't recommend wearing a dress. I just saw the BS first. I only had to disrobe from the waist up. They gave me this paper vest to wear but some places do give you a gown. If you you wear a dress you'll have to take it off… and then I'm sure they would give you a gown. Get used to flashing. Lots of people will be looking at your boobs now. They don't hand out the Mardi Gras beads either which is kinda a rip

I never went outside yesterday. I don't like the humidity and when it's that hot… I might have had a warm flash at about 3:30am but given I had my usual salad dressing with salsa for lunch and tandoori chicken that I did make with both a spicy curry and added a bit extra cayenne pepper (still not that hot)… cayenne pepper can give me warm flashes.
So I now wake up with trigger finger in my left middle finger. It does go away in about 5-10 minutes but so wierd. Do I need to worry about this?Update on nails. It isn't a yeast problem. The super special dermatologist is going to have me use this topical stuff for 3 months on my fingernails to see if it at least gets rid of the brittle issue. If it works I will be using it for a total of 6 months… so no nail polish for a while. So I find that insurance won't cover. Costo has the cheapest price at $185 per month! I was about to not do this till Costo said there is something else that works just as well. They called my SSDerm and she said OK. Now it's only going to cost me $20 a month. It does look like my nails are not going to unlift
Granted not the end of the world. So excited about everyone wanting to be a part of the walk and/or ACS strides event. So far 6 walkers (not including me. Need to see if I have to work the event) and 1 volunteer. They are going to have a photo booth there… which I just got rental donated yesterday. I'm so excited about that. My old boss from Midway Games asked his partners and they are all for it!
So let me know what you want to do for a team name. We can always go with Illinois Ladies but open to new stuff too. Invisible's "Breast Friends" might be fun too.

Lago - I should be able to make the walk as a participant. So sorry the yeast angle didn't work out for your nails. Trigger finger is a SE of arimidex. Something I've been nervous about. You probably know about the Hormone Therapy forum. At times there has been quite a bit of discussion about this on the Arimidex SE thread. Can't remember the exact title, but it's active each day.
Work is crazy these days. I was on summer break, off payroll, but still working 4-5 days each week. At least I'm getting paid to do the same work starting in July.
I'm up for the walk, too. Edited for - Repeating myself! Need to finish my coffee, clearly.

Loved the dance video.....can't believe we/I made some of those moves in my much younger years and thought of it as so cool. I loved to dance as a teen. Not too bad at it either. Now it does look a little hilarious. Reminds me of that song ( also hilarious to me now, but my spelling will probably be all wrong ). Hooka-Tooka and Soda Crackers.
Stay cool ----------- if possible.
Hugs, Jackie

Hello everyone! Welcome Heidi! Come back anytime and remember.......there is never a silly or dumb question with this group. We've all asked the same ones at one time or another.
Hot, hot, hot! We are going to try to play 9 holes of golf this afternoon and then taking our suits and heading for the pool. Tomorrow I'm getting my oldest grandson for a week and I'm really looking forward to that! My golf will be on hold as everything will evolve around him. Can't wait!
Congrats to those finishing chemo and other treatments.
I think it's great that so many of you are bonding together to do the walk! They are pretty awesome and I always find them so emotional. This was the first time in a long time that I didn't do the Peoria walk and I was always the one who walked with tears streaming down my face.
Love your quote for the day, Jackie!
I'm off to find some lunch. Everyone stay cool and have a great weekend.

Yes! I have October 20 marked on my calender! We are walking!
Lago, The Lisle Balloon Fest is this weekend too! Guess I will be there since my hubby's company is having their picnic and giving us tickets. Not as big as the Naperville Ribfest but fun to watch the balloons!
We had lots of rain last night in Homewood along with about 5 minutes of small/medium hail. Then today in Wheaton (where I work) we had about 2 hours of rain/thunder.....so hope everyone else got wet!
Heidi, Welcome! I just make sure not to wear a dress so I can keep the bottom 1/2 covered. It is enough to have to flash my boobs for everyone. I thought I lost my modesty when my daughter was born and I had a room full of nurses in training but guess I regained some of it! Like Lago said....and they don't even give us beads!
Well have to get back to work. They laid off 4/10 people here last Friday and it is like a ghost town. I'm starting to do a job search now just in case this place doesn't make it. I wasn't here and walked into work on Monday and noticed a few people missing. Had to place a few strategic questions to those that were here before I figured out what was going on. We are all filling in for those we lost and have been kept pretty busy all week. Oh well, another one is biting the dust!

Valerie I live on the outskirts of Wheaton (unincorp) It's just strange to me to meet people from this Org. and we're so close inmany ways. In fact I say more here than I do anywhere cuz I feel like everyone understands and doesn't think I'm overly dramatic cuz most of us are experiencing the same things. So I'm glad to be here.

camillegal: I feel exactly the same way!

Yea KJ I bet most of us do

kjiberty~ Isn't it a great feeling to be done?!?! Congratualtions!!!
I'm enjoying some R&R with family on a very small lake (Berry Lake), in a very small town (Gillett, WI) near Appleton, WI. It has been beautiful here on the lake because of the breeze! I imagine that my townhome back in the Gurnee area could be melting as I left the A/C holding at 78 degrees.
My sister will be arriving from CO next Wednesday and I will have my BMX Thursday. I kinda like it here on the lake in the land of denial and not thinking about it. I am not in a state of mind to commit to the walk/volunteer in October but definitely an event that I would like to get involved with and also have the opportunity to hook up with all of you. Thanks for letting us all know Lago. I hope to be back on my game by August and able to make the comittment.
Stay cool ladies!

Ditto!

C-Squared You'll be feeling fine by late August. Not surewhat you'll be up to but you can still come. I went to the Komen event 3-4 weeks post BMX.
Ditto what Adey

No one judges here. We've all been through it but also know that everyone's journey is different.

Lago-sorry to hear about the trigger finger. Check out the "Arimidex-Coping with the se's" group. Many posts regarding trigger finger. I've had it in my thumbs for years, never even knew what it was.
Heidi-so glad you found us, sorry you had a reason to. I suggest dressing comfortably and taking something to read. Sometimes you may have large chunks of time between docs coming to see you.
Can't believe this weather-my heart breaks for the farmers who need the rain so badly.
Hope you all have a good Friday evening- TGIF!!!

It's not a big deal (trigger finger). I only have it for about 10 minutes in the morning. Just not sure if I'm supposed to do anything about it. Should I report this to my NP? I don't see her again till mid September.

Lago I'm sorry about seeming to make fun of u'r finger I really wasn't it's how I think even with my own stuff. I never heard of that so I kinda thought u were joking around really. There are so many strange things I'm hearing about and I thought I had strange things going on--Darn I know I don't much, but that was a stupid thing I said--sorry

Robo, today hot flash=hot mess!
Congrats kj, take it easy this weekend.
Heidi, good luck and remember to take a notebook and pen. Write down questions ahead of time, and keep track in your notebook of info. It will be easier to remember what dr. says if it's written down.
Too bad about the beads! As much as we've been flashing, a "booby" prize woulda been nice.
0 -
C-Squared: I wil be thinking of you this week.
St Jude: Thanks. OH, I am taking it easy. Can hardly wait for the crash tomorrow.
0 -
Lago-I'd let her know. I don't think anything is done until it gets bad, then surgery.
0 -
Camillegal I sometimes forget I'm in the midwest and some of you here haven't met me yet. I was kidding about the Jews and guns too. (Granted I don't know too many Jews with guns… we really do tend not to own them). But yes trigger finger is a real thing.
Stjude you'll get plenty of boobie prizes and I'm not talking implants. All the battle "wounds" we have from surgery, chemo, rads etc for cancer treatment I now consider boobie prizes… just no beads.
Thanks SpunkyB guess there's no rush in telling her.

Lago I think we might have the same type of goofy humor.LOL

I would love to do the walk in October...whaddaya want to bet that one kid will have a soccer game, one kid will be cheerleading at something or other, and another kid will have a cello performance? I can't commit until we get the fall schedules settled down, I don't know what I'm in for now that I have two high schoolers.... but keep me in mind as a maybe! I signed up to do the Komen 3 day walk this year... but haven't done a single minute's worth of fundraising, so I think I'll just consider my $65 registration fee as a donation, and that's that.
Back to work on Monday. I think my older kids are relieved that I will be around less, my younger kids are disappointed.
Lago -- you might see me downtown with the whole crowd at the Gold Coast Art Fair -- my son is taking a speed reading course in the loop tomorrow, so it's a good excuse to go downtown. Unless the heat is unbearable, and then I may just let my DH do it!
