Teacher, I did have fun ... and fun is relaxing! Thanks.
Chevy, painting a fence in 90 degree weather ... yikes.
Hi Jackie and Carole.

Doesn't look like there's been much activity here for awhile, but I'll post and see who answers.
I'm 62, my oncotype score was 27, high intermediate, so I'm doing the chemo, had my first chemo last week, which caused my diverticulosis to flare up. Am treating the flare up, the diarrhea and abdominal pain are gone, considering adding probiotics to try and prevent problems with the remaining chemo sessions.
Anyone else have problems with their diverticulosis?
0 -
Hi Puffin, we wondered if you would come back and see us again. My husband by the way, was born and raise in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Anyway, hoping someone who has had diverticulosis will be able to talk to you if they had some of your issues. I had just nausea and lots of vomiting with my chemo, but that was in 2008 and seems long ago now. Never really found a solution so did lose 38 #'s but I had it to lose. Tried different methods for the nausea but never was able to get a good handle on it. Since I was only going to have chemo 8 times ( once every three weeks ) I just decided to do the best I could and not worry about it. I usually did not feel like eating for 6 or 7 days, but day # 8 was a pig-out day. I made tuna fish on toast.....and ate it all day long. I had a deep craving for it ( more poison you know ) and gave in every time. So, I knew that I just had to have patience and all would come right.
Someone will come along here in a while probably. If not, first thing in the morning.
Blessings
Jackie

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.

Had to come back and make sure I left a quote for today. Going to be a bit rugged here -- quite hot and humid. Rain late yesterday afternoon and then some ( not sure of time, of course ) through the night. More expected through the day today and into tomorrow. Tomorrow should be a bit more comfy.
For some reason I thought I heard on yesterday's weather that we would not have rain yesterday....so I washed my car. Just as I had it dry and was starting the windows....I felt some drops. At first ( someone was watching out for me and my hard work ) they were few and far between. Was able to finish the windows and get my clean car-mats back in. Sigh !!! Well, at least the mud is gone....for now. As it is going to bee wet or a couple of days......I can start on some new mud for my car.....but hey, it will be fresh....not the stale dried on stuff I removed yesterday....ah, my silver lining.
Blessings

oh Jackie, I fear when you post that kind of weather pattern that it will soon arrive in the east. You sensed correctly that I am glad to be home. An overnight with Dd near Biston proved to be stressful as they are working through a separation. My precious GD (6) was not herself and kept her distance. Ouch. I saw so mych wrong but just tried to support and love them and give them space.
I finally slept in my own bed and am just getting up at 9:30. I am glad to be back. My flower boxes were nearly dry and I lost a few plants.
Like Chevy my tomato plants are in pots on the deck. DH planted them in small pots and they stopped thriving. I replanted one in a huge pot and put it in partial shade. It is thriving, huge, and loaded with cherry tomatoes. I will try to save the other plants.
Chevy, when I moved to Denver in '76, the Army post gave us zinnias and marigolds to plant. I put mine in full sun as I always did in NY. My neighbor planted his under bushes in the shade. Mine died. His were perfect. Denver sun is so strong.
Wow fence painting? Sounds like you are getting around and about!
Puffin sorry to hear that your chemo set off the diverticulitis. I hope you find a way to minimize. No experience here.
My son went back to Chicago while I was away and he mistakenly took my beach passes. Time for Plan B.

Slept until 8:30 this morning! Went to town by myself to the farmers' mkt and made some good purchases. Home-made bread, triple fudge cookies for dh, yard eggs, green beans, cucumbers, beets with pretty green tops and fresh-dug potatoes. We will eat well tonight!
Warming up to 81 degrees today. The campground is quiet because most of the weekenders have gone out in their boats to anchor out in the middle of the lake where they'll cool off in the water and eat and drink. And drink. And drink! We declined to go along because we avoid the direct sunlight unless there's a good reason, like playing golf. Guess we're old farts? Yeah. We are. LOL!
Talked to my mom a long time today. I'm so thankful that she sounds really happy this summer despite my absence.
Happy Saturday to all!

Hi everyone! It's been so long since I checked in (thanks Jackie for your concern) and it's good to see that everyone is still sharing on this site. It's been a busy year for me so far...moving and such....getting the beach house in shape, but everything has quieted down for now, so hope to catch up with everyone.
I see Jackie is still sharing her wonderful inspiration which I've missed.
Carole: Looks like you're travelling again this summer and having a great time. Last I checked in you were headed to Australia. No big trips this year for me....maybe in the fall.
Chevy: I'm so sorry about the loss of your pet...I know how close you were. My DD called yesterday to let me know that she had found her bulldog (Mama Mia) dead and it was quite a shock. She's very upset about it as this is the third dog she's lost in the last eight years. She loves animals
Welcome to all the new folks who have joined the site while I was off. It's a wonderful place to come to find comfort during good as well as difficult times.
I'm in Greenville SC for the remainder of the summer but am headed back to Florida for a short visit to see DGC and also do my doctor app'ts. I haven't had an eye injection in several months, so I know that my doctor is going to be ballistic about that:( Also selling one of my rental properties...one I've had for about 30 years. I'm just tired of trying to collect rent.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Kaara ;
So glad you are back. Good to know you are safe and sound and all's well with you. I am sorry to hear about your dd's dog. It is a deep trauma. This is a time, when time, enough of it can be our friend, helping us get through the adjustment we have to make to this loss.
Again, welcome back.
Blessings
Jackie

Hi you guys....Welcome back Kaara! What 'cha been doing? Sorry about your Daughter's dog.... Lacee had been having problems for a few months, but every day I wanted to think she would be better.... but even the Vet, and all his remedies could help her too much.... I just could see her staying the way she was.... So I helped her the only way we could..... But I held her when she gave her that final shot.... She just went to sleep in my arms....
No.... doesn't make it any easier, but at least she knew I would help her.
Joan, yes, the Sun is brutal here! Especially when the pots are set on cement, or flag-stone, and in the sun all day.... I think the ones I moved will be better now! It's supposed to be cooler here for a few days..... I LOVE that!
Puffin, my onco score was 19..... low-intermediate, so I didn't do chemo..... and so far so good, going on 5 years now. Looks like your DX was about the same as mine, only I was about 10 years older than you...... well, I still am, but that's beside the point....

Grace is goodness and respect given freely and
unconditionally. A sense of divine love and protection bestowed on us
when we need strength and renewal. Grace helps us know we are not alone
and believe we are cared for and cherished. Grace is a drink of clear,
clean water in the desert.

Good morning. It is so pretty out of doors -- but you open the door and it is like you are about to walk into a blast furnace. There are lots of storm systems around us though, so tomorrow should be substantially cooler with hopefully humidity to match.
At least we are really nice and green outside and it does look great out of the window --it is just the first couple of steps you take to exit outside. I think it is going to be a great Sunday anyway.
Carole -- your Farmer's Market trips always sound like such fun. Always makes me want to go -- but we usually go to a set-up that is similar. It is a store owned and operated by a man who buys from all the local farms -- especially organically grown veggies, and sells it at pretty reasonable prices all together......all week long -- rather than just the Saturday parking lot Farmer's Market that goes on here. This man also sells locally produced yogurt, home-made breads, pies, rolls, and cookies. Well, I have to try and stay away from that part of his store......and actually it is the one area where I feel his charges are a bit on the high side.
Well onward for the day.....as usual felt like I could "sleep-in" a little this morning bit I awoke right on time. Grrrr. Hope you are all going to have a gorgeous Sunday and Joan, sure hope you have ok weather. There will be serious storms today, but I didn't see New York being involved. Here's hoping it is not major for anyone.
Blessings,
Jackie

Kaara, good to hear from you! I was thinking about you during the last few days. I guessed that you were busy with your life. Glad you're doing well.
We're having a gloomy, gray day here today. Possibility of rain all day. I'm planning to load up the laundry and drive to town to the Laundromat. With LOTS of quarters! I do laundry every two weeks and it takes about $20.
Hope everyone is having a happy Sunday.

This morning at 2:30 AM there was a lot of noise outside. Got up to find a heard of donkey's roaming around. When I opened the door I saw a shooting star and lots of lightning bugs. What a site.
We had a good week at the broom shop so looks like pocket book will be ok for trip to Iowa.
Sandra, sorry about your cat, 19 is a ripe old age for an animal, you must take good care of them.
Puffin, hang in there. I was one of the lucky ones through chemo, not any real problems. Have had more problems after .
Everyone take care, going to be another hot one here

An
elderly couple, had just learned how to send text messages on their mobile
phones. The wife was a romantic type and the husband was more of a no-nonsense
guy.One
afternoon the wife went out to meet a friend for coffee. She
decided to send her husband a romantic text message and she wrote:"If you
are sleeping, send me your dreams. If you are laughing, send me your smile. If
you are eating, send me a bite. If you are drinking, send me a sip. If you are
crying, send me your tears. I love you."The
husband texted back to her:"I'm on
the toilet. Please advise."0 -

LOL on the first, Chevy! Read it aloud to dh who is watching Nascar. The 2nd is very sweet and poignant.
What a sight, Mommarch. A shooting star and fireflies. Great news that you're making your trip.
Back home from doing the laundry. Clothes put away. Bed made up with the clean sheets.

Carole, I had almost the same thought about Mommarch's star and fireflies. I read that and thought how extraordinary that the donkeys got in her yard and made enough noise that a person would get up at 2:30 a.m. to go see what was going on. I think it is a good omen.
I thought the texting by the oldsters was pretty funny as well. Sure could tell neither of them had any Alzheimer's issues. Clever.
Still waiting for our rain....and it looks rather clear and has a good part of the day, Dappled sun is on our parking area and for all from a glance, you'd think of the appearance of its being just the right temp. out there instead of just short of steamy. I'm not known for my patience though....that's for sure.
Blessings

Yes Carole, I 1/2 way watched Nascar too, while I was baking those cinnamon-sugar cookies with that pie-crust.... Remember?
Then I had to use a bunch of eggs, so I rolled out a pizza-dough, microwaved it in a baking dish for a couple minutes so it wouldn't slide into a heap, then I added the whipped eggs, buttermilk, fresh spinach, corn off the cob, Mozzarella cheese, and Cheddar Cheese mixed with pimiento's. Now I'm baking it.... OH! I can see it bubbling!
Damn neighbors.... Went away for the week-end, and of course didn't tell me.... I took water-melon over for the chickens yesterday, and 2 ears of corn on the cob this morning.... Took over a little can of cat food for Edith.... She was sooooooo happy to see me.... She had no food in her dish.... of course, but I filled it, made sure she had water, and gave her the canned food....
You know if I say anything to them, SHE will say, well she's a CAT, she can catch mice, or drink water somewhere! We took 6 eggs yesterday.... left the ones today.... Someone should take the chickens AND the cat!
They still aren't home.... but should be later.... We can see over into their yard.... So I'll make sure the critters are taken care of..... I'm surprised she can raise 2 little girls!

Blondie --- bitch all you need too here.....this is where we are for each other no matter what shape we are in. I hope you can find a few zzzzz's somewhere though. It may be just enough to break the cycle you are in.
Chevy, actually cats can do ok for four or five days if they don't eat......but that makes me no difference. If our cats are used to having food in their plate daily......it should be there whether or no. They are creatures of habit and I always feel bad if I don't get their food to them. On very RARE occasion, I can't get into town for the feral cats and I always think of them waiting in just the little spots I know they do......for me to come. Also, I think it is a thing about yes.....they can go for awhile ( I think God knew what he was doing ) like people, but that does not mean that there may not be some stress on them for missing meals.
I do know....if someone else went to feeding them -- they wouldn't ask any question or give one sign of wondering where I had gone off too. They are somewhat fickle.....as long as someone comes, they don't actually care who it is.
Blessings

Chevy, glad you are smurfing some eggs! I have left my in/out cat outside for overnight but with a way to get in if she needs to. She was always within a minute of home when we pulled in. But for longer times, we had friends feed, and always in colder weather. You are so good to those animal neighbors.
Carole, I just love the trips to the farmers market...it feels good to stock up fresh with good-for-you foods. I would also have chosen to stay behind while the community went out on the lake. I love the quiet and privacy where possible. I hope your week end has been good.
I repotted some tomato plants today into very large pots. We have a dozen or so ripening cherry tomatoes. I saw the birds landing on the pots but they didn't touch...so I googled about birds eating tomatoes (yup, they may) and how squirrels will sample and toss...so I picked anything with color and will ripen on the windowsill. We only have a few plants and they sure look good....I don't want to share!
Blondie (Sandy), I am sorry to hear that you are uncomfortable and that your meds are keeping you up. I couldn't sleep last night - we could have talked for awhile! I went to bed after 1 AM and was lying there awake for a long time (afternoon regular coffee, a caffeine soft drink, and have added a new drug)...It seems that when I try to sleep, that is when my mind wanders to things I don't like to think about. It's a dilemma for sure.
I hope you slept late this morning. Sending positive thoughts for a better evening and a good sleep.Jackie, rain has been predicted for days. We never saw more than a sprinkle. Our son took our beach passes back to Chicago by mistake...and now it is completely clear, cooler, and breezy. They stop checking at 5:30 so we are headed there now with chairs, sweaters, and books. We have no time schedule.

Oh, nearly forgot...just confirmed annual mammo appointment tomorrow.

My first trip through this site I wasn't very good about marking some sites as favorites and it's taken awhile for me to retrace where I'd been.
I've actually been feeling pretty good the last couple days, abdominal pain and diarrhea are gone and I'm eating pretty much what I want again. Would still like to do something to protect my bowel before the next chemo so I don't have another divertic flare, looking into taking probiotics if my onc will approve.
Spent yesterday afternoon with Lew's family celebrating his mother's 92nd birthday sitting on a shaded deck, breeze, no bugs. It was great to get out of this house. His mom is a 51 year breast cancer/chemo/radiation survivor. Sure wouldn't have wanted to go through treatment back in 1963.
Today washed 7 loads of clothes, done for the next 2 weeks. Plan to relax the rest of the evening.
Looking forward to getting to know all you ladies.

Ha, ha! You lost us! Sounds like the rest of us when we first started! So hi Puffin! Man, you have been BUSY!
Joan! Yes, the pots are good! I just moved more of mine out of so much sun..... Been pretty nice here today, and not baking the tomatoes. and yes, pick the ones that are starting to ripen, they will taste just as good as leaving them to vine-ripen.
Thanks Jackie..... Edith knows I love her, and she circles around my legs talking to me the whole time.... Then I sit on the step, and she just comes to lay by me.... They should be home later.... those back-woods oblivious neighbors of mine....
She still sleeps on that plant warming mat I have put inbetween the blankets I gave her, which is IN the plastic crate I gave her, AND eats out of the bowls I took her! I am her step-mother..... Ha!
0 -
Yes, Chevy -- you are a wonderful step-mom and Edith certainly approves from the description of how she behaves when she sees you. Cats have a habit of being just a bit on the haughty side, so when they let their "fur" down and behave like Edith....they do feel a bond and respond to it. Good for you. With her, your mothering/loving instinct blooms really well.
I'm glad she has you for the REAL cat to person/person to cat relationship.
Happy hugs,
Jackie

If I ever had missed feeding the cats, they would have reported me! The Princess starts staring at me around 4 for her 5 pm dinner. If I don't tell her it's coming soon, she slaps me with her paw to make sure I know she's sitting in front of me or beside me.
