I lived in Camden for a while, then Warren, which is inland from Rockland and Thomaston. Had a farm there, 6 acres and a house that dated back to 1830. Access to a maple grove, where we sugared in the spring. I used to use maple sap instead of water to make coffee, so it didn't need sugar to be sweet. Maple sap right out of the tree tastes like slightly sweet water. When we sugared it in a friend's sugar house we would sample it when it was halfway done by mixing it half and half with Jack Daniel's, a drink which we called Trees' Knees. We were drunk most of spring. Good times, good times...
