In Dec. I called Capital One and told them we would be using our credit card in AUS and NZ in January.  When we took the big trip to Alaska  in 2011, I didn't think to tell Capital One.  When we got to Canada and dh was filling the truck with diesel at a service station, his credit card payment was refused at the pump.  I was inside the station and got a call on my cell phone from Capital One!  I okayed the purchase and the card payment went through.  I really appreciate the company's vigilance.

Chevy, I think it's funny and sweet that you have a gift basket with favorite snacks in your guest bedroom!  We should all plan a visit to your house!

It was a little warmer this morning, high 50's instead of low 50's.  Also foggy out over the lake.  But the sun is peeking out.  I'm hoping to go out fishing.  This week has been so nice because we have the campground to ourselves.

    Happy Wednesday to all.

    Jackie and Carole,

We very much appreciate our credit card company's efforts, since we go through Canada to get to the Lower 48 and we do call now before we leave and before we return to AK. Although we have ATM's here too, I have never used one and have no plans to use one. Canada seems to be very secure in general. They were ahead of us in using the chips on cards. I too tend to use checks or cash and often pay local bills in person. My credit card company thus far has replaced my cards 3 times when computerized systems somewhere had been possibly violated. I've asked for replacement 2 other times when I misplaced my cards (and eventually found them). No thefts so far. Been lucky.

I don't often carry and rarely monitor any cell phone, and love the freedom that provides!

Di, Would it make sense to meet in the hotel lounge at Cape Fox, maybe around 10 AM? It is comfy there for waiting. Will you have internet access aboard the ship?

Sandra, I'm making reservations at a restaurant called Lola's for 1:30 tomorrow.  It's about 2 and a half blocks from your hotel, so we figured it would be convenient for you to get to your hotel on time for your excursion.  It's a vaguely Greek themed restaurant owned by one of Seattle's best known restaurateurs named Tom Douglas.  In the Seattle area we try to avoid the freeways around commute time (which begins about 2:30!!! and doesn't end until well after 6:00) so figured that it would be best to meet close to your hotel.  My husband and I have had breakfast at this restaurant a couple of times and liked it, so hopefully everyone else will, too.  I checked the menu online and it looked like lunches are in the mid-teens pricewise.  Wren and I communicated about it a bit, but you and Di have been so busy planning your cruises that you haven't had time to think about lunch!!   The address is 2000 4th Ave.  It's right on the corner, and as you can see from the address isn't that far from 2200 5th Ave (The FIVE hotel).  Parking in Seattle is a nightmare, but it's a teeny-tiny bit better in this part of town than it is closer to shopping, the financial district or government offices.  Of course, since I say that it'll probably be IMPOSSIBLE to find parking tomorrow!!

If either you or Di, though would prefer something different please don't hesitate to yell, and we'll change things around.  I'll try to remember to bring my camera.  :)

    Hi all,

... am hoping all the travelers have safe, fun journeys to places far away or close or back toward home like Carole.  Thank you all for info on your wanderings.

... am hoping Cami's computer is soon to be in tip top shape.

... am hoping Chevy's daughter appreciates her basket of snacks ... Chevy, have you though about running a B and B?

Joan, have classes started?  You said you were back to work.

Mimi, how are the grands liking their new teachers?  Is DD happy with her assignment this year?

Joan and Mimi, I am hoping that you two are on this thread ... I am thinking I may have my threads mixed up ... must be nap time.

AlaskaAngel, if my excursion finishes a few minutes early, we can meet you at 10 a.m next week on Thursday. Otherwise we'll be a few minutes late. Cape Fox sounds great. I've read about it and the lovely view of Ketchikan from there.

GardenGumby, thanks so much for the info. The restaurant sounds perfect. Can't wait to see you tomorrow!

Hi gals!  You know what will just give you a quick heart attack?  Or even an asthma attack???  Or a bad case of hives?

Got a letter this morning from the IRS..... saying we owe them over $7000 !!!!!!  OMG, I thought I would pass OUT!  So after being on hold 3 times, to 3 different people, inCLUDING the IRS, Fidelity Investments.... Securities something, AND AARP, we will get it straightened out!

Evidently something was not filled out right, on 2012 income tax return, but AARP will correct any mistake, as soon as Fidelity sends me needed information, to fill the amended form RIGHT!

I am always soooooo careful, to save everything sent to me.... but I think THEY did not send the right form, or information....  Whew!!!!

I'm trying to get ready for DD, and here I had to take time out to fool around on the phone,  in a panic!

But it will be alright..... I thought DH would just fall on the floor!  He said  "Do they mean 7 dollars?"  And I just tried not to swallow my tongue, and not act  FLOORED, and I just said.... "I don't think so?"

So tomorrow is another day.....  I'm just glad I have enough wits about me to figure out who to call, and what to ask for!    Damn people anyway!

THAT would be a jaw-dropper! I sent in a quarterly once that the IRS entered with the wrong decimal point and they came after me for the unpaid value. That is one time when I was very thankful I had made a copy of the check BEFORE sending it out. But it still took several months of going around and around with them and the bank to get it straightened out. They were very nice, just awfully persistent, when it was nothing we did wrong.

Oh geez !!!!!  If those IRS agents are two years behind checking returns we all have some big worrying to do, don't we ????  Just kidding, but it sure seems like it could be that way.

Sure glad you do know what your doing, Chevy.  We have had our taxes done by the same person/company since we moved here so I'm not too concerned, but now -- after all the "precautions" we talked about with debit and credit cards -- here is something else to have to worry about.

Is someone out there trying to dream up ways to get the "well seasoned" people paranoid so they all be good kids or something.

    Hello everyone,

I had good news today, my blood platlets are up they went from 119 in july to 130.  They are still low but hopefully they will continue to rise.  I Forgot to ask the nurse if I need to come in in Sept.

Been doing laundry all day.  This getting up at 5:30 is for the birds.  I did take a nap today, that was nice.

I baked a lemon pound cake and it ran all over the oven, don't have a clue as to what happened.

    Everyone have a good evening.

Sally - thanks for asking about my kids and grands. All is well for the grands. Working in schools is hard these days and my kids are happy to have good jobs for now even if there are things they would change.y son sold his house and is building a much bigger fancier one. Sister works in schools and admits his new place would be nice to have. But he is giving her a fabulous deal on the furniture he cannot take and she has always loved it. I only hope DIL isn't pushing a move beyond his means. She grew up quite privileged and likes it that way. He built their current place when he was single and is nostalgic about leaving it.

I'm in my Iowa place with no internet so I am not on this site much until Friday when I return to Missouri. Internet will be back here on Sept. I'll catch up then. Isis the nightly report.

Yikes Chevy ... forms yuk ... I hope the $7000 issue gets smoothed out quickly ... well already, with you on the phone so much yesterday, it can't be called quick ... so hopefully the issue is resolved soon.

Mommarch, happy to hear that your platelets are up.

Mimi, your son must be very talented to build his own house ... so many different skills involved.  I am happy to hear that the school goers are happy ... same here.  In fact, one DGD says they are already practicing for a music program.

Chevy, have a very fun visit with DD.

Travelers and other revelers enjoy yourselves.

I'm on late today as I worked early today.  Was there at 8 o'clock.  I don't mind too much.  I'll also work tomorrow night and so have a longer week-end.   That will be nice.  Going over Sunday morning to stay with my cousin's new little puppy, Muffin.  He is a Shih Tzu.....just about 7 & 1/2 weeks old now.  It should be fun actually.    My cousin will pay me though I don't really want to be.  I think we should help each other -- but sometimes with this cousin I don't get my way.

    Blessings

    Hi everyone,

To those of you heading toward Alaska- have a great time!

    The saga of SpongeDoug continues....

Early this week, our neighbor next door told Tim (my youngest and the one who recently got engaged) that if he cleaned up the back yard, the neighbor would mow it for us. Tim cleaned it all up, including putting a broken down old mower out front with the rest of the garbage. It was bulk trash week and by the time Tim told me, the mower was gone. When I was telling my older son that SpongeDoug was not going too have a good reaction to the news, he suggested I text Doug, tell him what happened and offer to replace the mower.

I did, and Doug's response to me was that it wasn't my fault, and he needed an apology and payment from Tim. He then sent a nasty text to Tim. Tim's response was nastier making it clear that Doug was no longer to be at our house when Tim was home.

Cut to yesterday- SpongeDoug comes over to pick Dougie up for dinner. He is calm and relaxed and sitting at the kitchen counter writing down Dougies schedule for Open House last night. Tim gets home and comes in fuming, gesturing to me to tell Doug to leave.

I told Tim to relax, he was leaving as soon as he had the schedule. He then told Tracy to get him out. Her answer was the same as mine. Tim then started yelling at Doug, who ignored him until Tim got near him. They both began screaming at each other.

Next thing I heard was the door between the kitchen and garage bang open. Doug fell out the door and cut his face when he landed on the car.

Long story short, Doug called the police, and Tim came thisclose to being arrested. I am furious at Tim for losing his temper like that, but realize it is the result of months and months of Doug harassing Tim constantly.

Right now, I am at the airport, following my plans to return to Ga today. Tim is at a hotel with his fiancée for a few days, then will stay with Nissa's family until things calm down. SpongeDoug has been ordered not to come into the house without prior permission to pick up his stuff.

He is threatening to take Tracy to court for custody if Tim remains in the house. He was actually mad at Tracy and me last night for not checking on him. She told him we had gone to Dougies open house. He put a couple of pictures of his cut face on Facebook, although he hasn't mentioned Tim at all.

I am scared to death leaving Tracy and Dougie alone, but I really can't do much to help.

     My flight is boarding.

Hi Anne. You write very well. I don't know how life gets tied in such knots. There is a LOT to be said for living an "ordinary" life, even though it is less exciting. We can listen and try to help with suggestions, even though we aren't part of the drama you are seeing ourselves, and we can't fix it. I'm sorry it is as difficult as it is on your end.

Anne, I can understand the worry.......so much grief and so many threats.  Hopefully, things will cool down considerably.  I'm sure it is hard for everyone, but these people ( and a couple were actually doing it ) ALL have to interact as responsible adults.  Sponge Doug and Tired Tim, who indeed seems to have taken the brunt of a lot of Doug's bad behaviors, couldn't quite pull it off.  That is what I hope will smooth down if they don't have to even LAY eyes anywhere on each other for a bit.

It's a misfortune that Doug has reason ( in his son ) to be around the house on occasion.  So, I do hope in time, there can be at least a bit of a truce based on that.  I also hope Doug will wise up about "button pushing" and how it does nothing for anyone.  He sets such a bad example for his son.

I hope you are able to get on that plane and have a nap and dream nice things for a while and above all not to have to THINK of life in the fast lane where you were and can enjoy being home in Ga.

It is never easy ---  you can see both sides, but there aren't any perfect answers.  So, you take a breather, ok.  I'm thinking about you and hoping you can catch your breath for a while.  You have earned it.

    Blessings

    Jackie

Thank you all for the kind words and support. I am in Ga safely and we have a few safe, calm weeks.

Jackie, I totally agree with you that Tired Tim was totally wrong in the way he handled the situation.

The police told both of them to turn off their phones, and stay away from social media sights. Tim listened, SpongeDoug has posted several pictures of his bloody face (which was one cut on the forehead, but he let the blood run down his face so it looked a lot worse than it was).

SpongeDoug has also told his son that he is not safe around Uncle Tim, while Tim apologized to Dougie ASAP and told him it will never happen again.

Tim was also very calm and respectful of the police while Doug was yelling at them. And one police officer told Tim it was obvious Doug had fallen and was not punched, because of the injury and with Tim's size and build, he would have done way more damage.

None of that makes Tim any less wrong, just gives you an idea of the difference in character between them.

Have a wonderful weekend - I plan to.

Anne..... what a MESS!  Just glad you are getting away.  That stupid Doug feels he can do anything he wants!  And he doesn't care one way or another, who wants him around, or not.  He considers himself "entitled"   to his wife, son, and anyone related to her, and he doesn't CARE what the rest of you think.

It's up to THEM to get him out of their lives...  I would probably go all Rambo on him at some point, and just say "That's it!  You're DONE.!"

No one should enable that guy anymore!  Tim should have scared the bee-gezus out of him, so he will never go around again!  I mean what's it going to TAKE to make that moron realize that he isn't WANTED anymore....  unless he thinks he is, and that is up to your Daughter to finalize THAT notion.

All this monkey business could stop, with a restraining order, a divorce, and visitation orders... but she has to want that.

And yes Di, could you tell us who is who?   I like that picture too!   And congratulations on going on that CRUISE!!!!  Yay!

Morning Cammi!  Just wish you would get that machine fixed, so we could talk amiably about nothing the way we usually do...Loopy

Every act has its effect.  To do nothing is an act that stems from feelings of hopelessness and despair.  Please remember, no matter how dark the future looks, you can make a difference.  When you live the true life you were sent here to live, the difference you make will enhance life rather than destroy it.  Do not spend time worrying how big a difference you make.  Anything that enhances a life makes a difference; helping one individual recover from a broken heart; easing one person's pain; helping one ugly duckling discover his or her beauty.  Keep working as long as you live, and live as long as you can, and when you finish your marathon they will hang a medal around your neck that says, "You Make a Difference."

Oh what a nice picture and it is always something special it seems when people that have undergone the rigors and trials of a cancer diagnosis, get together.  Not sure why since ALL get togethers with people we care about are great.  I think maybe  there is something about the severity of the disease itself.  Just seems to deepen the dimension of feelings when several are adding their energies to a get-together.

It is indeed a great picture ( without names ) even though the warmth of the feelings and happiness is quite evident.

Rain for us today to start the Labor Day week-end.   I really don't mind.  There is enough to do inside or out that I can stay busy.  Wow !!!!  Would be something if all was really done and I could just come home from town ( feeding feral cats ) and flop down.

Cammie, I'll be really glad too when you have your computer in better form.  From the couple of times I've had issues I know it as a frustrating time until it is working right again.  I hate to say I've gone through a lot of computers in my " ahem, computing career " .  Had at least four I think -- in 20 yrs. which to me is a lot.  Will admit one of them was totally filled up though since I was doing real estate at the time and I had Multiple Listings on it.  For this area that was a gigantic file to load in and I had to do it more than once--and then up-date from time to time.

Ok, I'm looking at the gal who only had soup in that picture --- what wonderful restraint.  On my --  I don't think I could come anywhere near that.  In fact, a cruise like that....I'd have to diet for at least 6 months by the time I got back on land.

    See you all later.

    Blessings

Luncheoners, great picture ... thanks for sharing the fun of your get together.

Cami, good to see your post.  Don't comp problems just frazzle you?  I know how comp problems stress me and I don't need my computer for work.  When all is fixed, you will need to celebrate ... you will deserve to celebrate.

I forgot to share that I found out last week that I do like cheesecake.  It would probably be better if I had never found that out.  I really like key lime pie, so I tried key lime cheesecake ... super yum!  Fortunately, the Cheesecake Factory restaurant is no close by.

... my coffee is gone which is my signal to walk ... have a sweet day friends.
