Can we have a forum for "older" people with bc?

Crone that is so nice of you I am sure they appreciated it...Puffin see ya made it, now it is countdown to the end of RADS..

Puffin, I would think your next rads really will get quicker. They were likely lining you up well and being quite cautious for what it would take to "hit" their marks each time. Anyway, I do think in the end it will get boring.
Phyllis, I was touched by your description of "getting over it" by calling up some people you felt were having issues that were pretty tough. I do think it helps tremendously when we can get outside ourselves and help people -- who have no idea how much they are helping us.
I have some down days now and then, but they don't come near as often as they did at one time. I finally learned the meaning of the phrase " no matter how bad you think you have it, someone else is struggling with something far worse ". To be fair though -- having a down time now and then surely helps us be grateful for when we are not having them. Laughter and good times are much easier to appreciate and fully enjoy when you have gone a short spell without them. No better way to invite them back in than by finding someone who could use a "lift" up from us for a bit -- and suddenly we are all sharing the same height.
We were definitely under the storm watch here. Until 7 p.m. tonight. It is long gone now I'm sure. We did get a bit of dicey wind this afternoon, but it pulled in some heavy duty rain and once that started the wind died way back.
I hope you all had a fair afternoon and freedom from any "serious" weather issues.
Blessings,
Jackie

Wow we have a lot of cat lovers here with information about specific breeds. And Blondie - a kitten will be such fun. I know there are dog lovers here too. And we've had some pretty great wildlife pictures, too. Carole the boat building sounds like fun. Funny about the girls naming the boats different girl names. I guess it's more like naming a doll. Nobody gives their favorite doll their own name. My daughter named her favorite doll Five. Hmmmm…I have no idea. My face painting was fun at a birthday party for a sweet girl. She had a Frozen theme like the Disney movie. There were lots of boys that wanted a crown like Elsa and I happily painted them. And nobody made remarks about it being a "girl" design. The magic show kept the attention of all 16 kids for half an hour. I can do lots of great magic tricks, but the highlight of the laughs is always two 3 foot springs covered in green silk that pop out of a can. I let them pop out over and over while appearing to try and get them back in the can. And the kids just laugh and laugh. One time a dad actually tried to help me get them back in the can and I let them fly out again when he had them almost all tucked in!!!!
The family was about two hours away from me. The grandma is my friend and we rode together and had a great day. Since I was going to be away from home for so long even our dogs were invited and stayed in extra kennels at the party house. The two golden retrievers ride together sweetly in the back of the car, one 18 months old (mine) and the other 10+ years old.
It was cold this morning and warm outside this evening with rain all day. Sounds like a storm will be brewing for us.It was nice to be home all day with the grey rain outside and my golden Peggy inside with me. Good night. Hope Blondie is sleeping well tonight.

I now have a diagnosis - a 2.5 cm, IDC e positive and HER2 positive. In the past two weeks I have had a mammogram (both regular and diagnostic), a biopsy removing four segment of breast tissue and three segments of lymph, a PET scan and had five doctors appointments. Tomorrow I will schedule surgery.
My daughter was diagnosed at age 37 with the same diagnosis except for mine is larger. She has been without evidence of the disease for two years. She has been by my side each step so far, and truly a blessing. What a cheerleader!
I'm calm about this and want to just move along. You know what it is now get on with it. Of course there will be some surprises along the way but I ready to take it on...yeah!

g-mom, Glad you are through all that. the iffy waiting and not knowing can bed so difficult. I wish this hadn't happened to you or your daughter but with so things we don't have a whole lot of choice.
I am also glad you are calm -- I bet you were standing by your daughter's side doing everything you could to help and reassure her of your love and care -- in some ways it might be helping you now. You do have some ideas about the issues ahead and you may have some down times -- but you have a really can-do attitude and that won't hurt one thing.
Blessings,
Jackie

G mom, once we get a diagnosis it is somewhat of a relief. After you get the next step scheduled, you'll feel better. Having a plan seems to empower us.
Mimi, how cool that the boys wanted Frozen things too! Some people get so upset about that. You know, if a girl wanted a tractor painted on her face, no one would think twice. Glad to see that the pressures of society may be easing up. P.S. We love, love, love Golden Retrievers. Our Alex was 12 when he died and it broke our hearts.
Here's another picture of our new grandkitten, Franklin.

Even though he's only been there for 5 days, his "big brother" Kelvin has already started to groom him!

g-mom, you sound like you are doing well which is good to hear. You certainly have been busy with bc appointments. What kind of surgery are you going to have? Hugs to you and your daughter.

Oh so wait! So we just gotta go like she never said "Have a food day everyone?" Is she serious? Well, she probably meant that! I'm just assuming here, that the spell-checker on that computer is STILL on the fritz!
Little Cams, I'm just so happy that you are back! Now no excuses! You have to check in periodically so's we won't go thinkin' you are laying out by the side of the road or anything! Unless you MEAN to be... Geez, it's just so hard to keep track of you!

g-mom, getting through at the tests and making decisions was the most stressful part for me. Once things were decided, I felt more in control of my life again (ha!) At least then, I knew what was coming next. Thankfully, you have your daughter to help you.
Yesterday was the first jacket day of the fall. This morning, the dog is snuggled next to me, another sign of cooler weather. Guess, it is time to think about starting the heater.
I get to volunteer at the library today. I enjoyed doing it so much before all this stuff began. I was asked to get cleared before I came back to avoid liability issues. Yeah, today is the day to pull books for Halloween and upcoming Thanksgiving displays.

Good morning all -- Gray and we could get an errant sprinkle or so, but I think we may be done ( didn't have time this a.m. to watch the weather ) with our storms for a while. That would be ok with me. Though a lot of work is ahead --- I really don't do gray all that well. After two or three days -- I'm starting to sink into a bit of a weather depression. The minute the sun arrives -- I brighten right along with it.
All that junk on the ground though -- a real heaping ton of work.
Teka, that is a gorgeous picture of Fall. I really missed Fall ( well all seasons, actually ) the 25 yrs. I lived in Southern California. The first yr. I was back home -- was so great. Hay bales at Halloween, along with apple cider and the last wiener roast of the yr. The smell of burning leaves as people could gather their leaves and burn them, and the great little Halloween parade we have in this tiny little town. It is often about three hours long. The Dr. I work for will be the Grand Marshall for this yr.'s parade. Guess I will definitely have to go this time. Hope it is not too chilly.
Teacher -- aren't libraries wonderful. Their is such wonder in there -- and somehow, though kindle's and other appliances have made reading so different -- there is nothing like the smell of a big room of books. It ( at least to me ) is a bit enchanting and mysterious. I have a library card for our library here though I haven't gone for some time. I don't read as much as I use too.....but it was and has been a very long-time love for me.
Hope you all have a wonderful day.
Blessings

Just got back from rads #2, and the gals were right, 10" and I was out of there. Took 3 practice deep breaths/hold, and then 4 holding breaths for the treatment, and I was out of there. So much better.
One of the gals at Yoga today said people need to take the word Fear (F=False, E=evidence A=appearing R=Real) and change it to (F=feeling E=excited A=and R=ready). Let's turn this whole experience into "feeling excited and ready to put this all behind us."0 -

Puffin, glad that Rads no. 2 was faster and easier.
Cammi, you had a drain for 3 months! That's cruel and unusual punishment. I had mine for less than 2 weeks and was SO glad to be rid of them. One on each side, since I had a bilateral mx.
The front came through last night and I awoke to wonderful crisp fall weather! You can actually walk outside and not break into a sweat. I'm even looking forward to getting outside and doing some yard work.
Blondie, hoping you're getting some sleep.

Love the fall picture. Trees are still green here. Maybe in a month we will have a couple of days of fall. I miss the beautiful colors.

G-mom - Hope things go quickly and smoothly for you as you move along with your daughter by your side. That was a lot of appointments in a short time. You must be tired of all the talking. Rest a little. You deserve it. Your confident manner will be such a gift to all including yourself.
Seeing my medical oncologist tomorrow for the almost one year follow up. Was diagnosed last December, but she agreed to move m appointment up a little since the RO wanted a mammogram six months after completion of radiation. That should put me on an annual mammo schedule in October instead of at Christmas like last year. The RO saw no evidence of disease at this point, so I'm expecting the same tomorrow. See y'all tomorrow night.

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life.
It turns what we have into enough, and more.
It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity.
It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend.
Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.

Good morning and I'm thinking about you Mimi and hoping your get an all clear once more. It causes little ( or sometimes big ) twinges of apprehension when test time comes, but it is the only way to REALLY know how things are with you. It gets a little easier as time goes on and you have some time under your belt -- but I think it is really normal to feel some miss-giving.
Hope you got some sleep Blondie and I'm willing to send you some of mine -- or would if I could.
Rainy day here. Tomorrow --- they say no rain -- sure hope so. The gray days got to me some time back and I'm ready for them to be gone for awhile. I'll see you all later.
Blessings

Got my genetic test results back today, negative for the 2 BRCA's,
which is good. Had 2 tests that came back Uncertain Clinical
Significance, meaning there is currently insufficient data to determine
if these variants cause increased cancer risk. If those tests are
recategorized over time as more data is available, I'll be notified.l.0 -
Teka-love the picture of Fall.
G-mom - Hope things go smoothly for you and am glad you have your daughter with you
Blondie- hope you get some sleep
Mimi-hoping your get an all clear again
Puffin- glad that rads are easier now
Momarch- nice to hear that things are going good for your granddaughter
I have not been on for a few days and had to catch up on everyone so I am sorry if I missed something,
Went for my yearly mammogram yesterday, so far they say everything is okay but still watching the area on my left side that has not changed for the last couple of years. Going to see my onco dr. next week.
This has been a long week and it is only wednesday. Work conference about an hour away on Monday, meeting after work on Tuesday and a long day at work today. We now have 18 children in our class and only 3 girls. 15 lively boys all day is tiring to say the least. But it is a job and I do enjoy most days.
Hope everyone is having a good week

Puffin - Happy belated Birthday! Sorry I missed it

Termite -- glad you had a good mammo and hope you always do. Good that you are enjoying your job as well....I would find 15 boys soooo challenging but, then at my age -- just being around too many kids at once has some iffiness to it.

I'm coming "home" here to my loving friends after being attacked tonight on another thread by someone who disagrees with my breast surgeon and oncologists choice of treatments for me and suggests by sharing my experience with others, they might also make a wrong medical decision. I'm feeling wounded and angry at myself for letting the words upset me. Mostly I'm just embarrassed. I had suggested that people sometimes need to agree to disagree, but she publicly rejected that. The person is a "big presence" on BCO and I'm sure ordinarily is a nice person who is capable of sensitivity and support to others. Unfortunately this is not the first time she has chosen to attack my doctors opinions and demand "proof" from me in order to share my experiences. The first time was a year ago when I had just had my BMX and shared the future plan for my case. I've stayed away from threads she frequents on purpose. This time she jumped in after I responded to a brand new thread started by a new member. She's probably a Moderator and will ban me from BCO now even though I chose to respond to her privately rather than on the thread. <sigh> Heart feels sick.
