Good idea. I deleted her private message to me - without reading it! (I felt so powerful doing that.) Now I've gone back and blocked user. I feel so much better.

If we pretend to be more enlightened than we really are, we will miss an opportunity to heal ourselves.  Admitting our limitations can make us feel vulnerable, yet it is very freeing.  We just have to be ourselves as we are now, accepting the mixture of enlightened awareness and human limitation that is in each of us.  Through this self-acceptance, we find a deep peace and self-love.

Oh Blondie -- happy week-end to you as well.  Hope you realize just how sweet and caring you are  -- sure shines bright to me right now.

Sandra, I might add -- not only is that freeing, but no matter which "threads" or "forums" you go to, you can post  and speak to whomever you wish.  You won't see anything but a blue line that reminds you that you have someone blocked.  If they criticize anything you have to say -- others can respond or not, but you will not be troubled.

I have an entire thread blocked ( not the thread itself, though I'm told you can do that as well ) but all the posters on it.  So, I still know when activity is going on, but not troubled by the chatter.  Works well for me.

I do forget at times when I'm ranting away about something to put in my own personal disclaimer that I'm just giving voice to my own opinions and feelings which may have little veracity for anyone else.  Also do this when I am not able to  post a link ( sometimes it doesn't seem to work well )  to something I'm saying.

Very cool out this morning -- so Fall-like.  It does bring on the nostalgia of other Falls of which we are starting into our 18th. one since returning home.  I so missed ( didn't realize it till several of our California yrs. had passed ) all of the seasons we have here -- each has unique features -- but it is the Spring and Fall that can be pronounced.  This time of yr. there is apple cider and cherry apple cider, and family wiener roasts.  Wherever it is a fire-pit is dug, bales of hay are bought and arranged -- and at dusk and beyond we are roasting hotdogs and there are hot and cold dishes to go with it.  And no wiener roasts would be perfect without the Smores after all have enjoyed the food and the cozy warmth of sitting around the big fire on hay bales for a time joking and reminiscing about other good times -- all feeling blessed to spend time together in an activity that always evokes the very best homey and living feelings and memories.

I'm looking forward to a really good day.

    Blessings

    Jackie

I have worked THREE days in a row!  Well, not three entire days because I don't have the stamina I used to have.  There was a time when I could have accomplished in one day what I have managed to get done in three.

Today I cleaned the porch by using the garden sprayer with bleach water.  I sprayed the porch wall and ceiling and the furniture with the bleach water and then rinsed using the hose.  I got soaking wet in the process so I got rid of the mildew on me, too!

Tomorrow I'll take a break from cleaning.

Hope everybody is having a good weekend.

Hi ladies - been a bit busy lately.  I don't know if I said, but I still do contract work on occasion, and have just been asked to take a contract with where I used to work.  The kick-off meeting is Tuesday.  This one is going to be a bit weird.  :)

We belong to a couple wine clubs up here in Washington, and today went and picked up our autumn release from one of the wineries.  It's always fun to go taste a couple of wines that we haven't had a chance to experience before.  We don't drink much, but enjoy some wine on occasion.

Other than that - it's obviously autumn.  The temps are now getting lower - mostly fifties during the day.  The rains have started, so I've turned off the sprinklers for the season, and this week hubby will be removing the exchanger and covering the faucets to protect from freezing.  He still goes fishing on occasion - spent all day yesterday on the water, but it's too cold and wet for me.  So when he goes I sleep in :)

I'll let y'all go now - and hopefully will keep in better touch over the next few weeks.  :)

A week is to long to catch up, so will read a little at a time.

We made the trip to Iowa, but DH jeep still had problems.  So it went back to the garage, and he will put in a part to fix it and charge no labor.

I stayed with my Mom all week, was glad I could. My 2 sisters and I went to see the Radiologist Oncologist with her on Wed.  Her blood work for the colon cancer they removed in 2010 is elevated and they believe has spread to the liver.  She refused any other treatment.  She has agreed to do a PET Scan, so they can see what is going on.

We had a good time, she wore me out.  I think we went to Walmart everyday.  She is so cute.

Hope all is good with you wonderful ladies.

    Hugs

Mommarch!  You are so cute with your Mom!  I'm just sorry about that diagnosis, but sounds like your Mom is doing okay with it.....     Walmart's ALWAYS sound like a fun trip to me!

Maybe she will change her mind, and maybe she won't.... about the treatment options.... that's okay.....  I would understand either way.

It just ain't easy growing older sometimes, especially with these PROBLEMS that keep coming up!   I went to lunch with our friend Rosie, and was telling her how we had our neighbor help us lift the swamp-cooler heavy wooden cover, up onto our cooler for the Winter....

And she said it must be sooooo sad to be getting older, and not be able to do things like you used to....  And I didn't MEAN it like that, I just meant DH and I sometimes need help, because his one hand is kind of crippled, and then there is my LEG stuff, and we can't lift that heavy thing as good as we used to....

But she could see how we ARE not able to do the things we used to do...  But thank GOD we are still doing alright....

We figured out an EASY way to pick up all those LEAVES we have coming down!  See, DH got the leaf blower out.... (immagine that!) and blew all the leaves over against the fence.....  (Instead of sweeping them every morning!)  So then I said, okay, I'll get the big plastic trash bags, you shovel them into one while I hold it open, and off and on, I would close the bag, get on top of it, and squash all the leaves!  Then open it for more!  Got them all up!

So while he was gone, I dumped the crushed leaves onto my garden rounds, then shoveled them into the dirt!  Broke up all the hard  spots, and now it's ready for the Winter!

Now next week, when the rest of the leaves have fallen, we can DO that and it's just so much easier than sweeping them off the walks!

It's always so fun reading what you gals say!  So have fun Jackie, Carole, Teka, LittleGardens, Sally and Blondie and Mommarch...  on THIS page.... Ha!

Chevy did you just describe growing  """ahem older """  gracefully -- by acknowledging  that we lose little parts and pieces of abilities for a whole slew of reasons and need to get someone to give us a hand.  I am probably normal -- part of me doesn't like it, but the other part knows that it is just part of NOT needing the same amt. of energy and drive and will-power.

I hope to be graceful about my acceptance and just be grateful that someone will rescue us slightly, not REALLY over the hill yet, people.

Anyway -- there are lots of things to do to stay active and busy -- just on a lighter scale.  I don't have a fence to blow my leaves on but I surely would do it that way if I did.  We have ravines on either side of our house and our land is hilly so some of the ridding of leaves process can be a little tiresome for the hours of holding the blower -- but not physically so difficult.  Mainly not so great if their is a slight wind ( really awful when its blowing the wrong way ) and time is of the essence so you have to keep working with it no matter.  That's when those hours really stretch out.

I'm looking for a lazy day that is probably not going to be.  Had this silly idea that I would sleep in -- this being Sunday.  Not so -- like always I woke and as it was "about" time, so just couldn't slither far enough under the covers to get cozy again.  Good old Mom time --- saying so casually " I think not " and might as well give in and get up now, so I did.

I hope you all have a fantastic Sunday.

    Blessings

    Jackie

Blondie -- happy week-end to you also.

Mommarch--I'm sorry about your Mom's diagnosis!  Hopefully, she will change her mind but she sounds like is doing ok.  Glad you were able to spend time with her and your sisters

Carol--sounds like you got a lot done. Please don't overdue though. I remember being able to getting so much more done in a day then I do now.

Went to get a flu shot today at one of the clinics that give them on Sundays. I was there early and the line was outside. People were waiting for parking places when I was leaving and others were parking in a lot across the street. Wow, must have been at least 300 people there but they got us in and out pretty quick

Was suppose to a candle store today with a friend but she is not feeling well so I am just puttering around the house. The weather is cool but nice and the trees in the nursery behind our house are beautiful. Love this time of year with all the colors!

Hi to everyone and wishing you all a happy Sunday

Mom--I'm sorry u'r mom has to go thru all this chit, but she knows what she wants and u and u'r sisters must feel sad.

Jackie the only difference I feel for aging is I'm lazier than I was and at the time I thought I couldn't get any lazier, but now I've managed.

Oh Chevy u and bugs, u might as well keep them as pets and start naming them, if u haven't already.

mommarch - sorry about your mother's diagnosis. My mother recently told my older sister and me that she will not do dialysis as her kidney disease worsens. My sister did not take it well but our mother is sharp as a tack and can make her own choices. I think that if I hadn't been through such "chit" (love that) the past year, I might not have accepted her choice. Going through repeated poking, prodding, tests, and surgeries has brought about a mental and emotional shift for me.

I love your ladybug too.  It's perfect.  They are good luck -- I just don't know the origins of why.  Can't say I've felt so fortunate once we got invaded by the ?? Asian ladybugs.  They are not red but are more of a butterscotch  yellow and invade your house so they can stay warm over the cold and very frosty winters.  Should you kill one -- it absolutely stinks.  Not sure what they were brought here to control but they are very much a nuisance too -- and I don't see the number of reds ones that I would like too.

Also loved how you got lazier Cammie.  I can do lazy with my eyes closed and a lot of time they are.

    Hi everyone,

Just read thru a whole bunch of posts, and I am too tired to respond to all the stuff everyone has going on, but know that I am thinking of you all.

I am having a greAt time in NY. We went to the city Fri, started at the today show, which was really kind of disappointing - we only got brief sights of the crew, but Joan Lunden came pretty close to us, then when we left, we were right behind her walking down the street. She was trying to get a cab (unsuccessfully), and when my brother hailed one, she and her friend jumped in it. My bro was a little upset until I told him she is one of my "sisters" now- and that if I were still undergoing treatment, I would have stolen his cab too.

After the Today Show, we took a 2 1/2 hr cruise around Manhattan, then headed to Ground Zero and Wall St, where my brother and I both worked 35-40 years ago. Didn't even recognize most of it. We had "dirty dogs" from a street vendor (best hotdogs available anywhere) then headed back to my sister's and had dinner at a local restaurant with her, her kids and grandkids.

Yesterday I was so sore I could hardly move, so we had an easy day with a short trip to Walmart. Then last night we had a sleepover with one of my sister's grandsons, which was lots of fun.

Today was a trip back to the city to see Jersey Boys. It was great! We got there about 2 hrs early, so we looked for my old community college, which is now a park, then walked around Times Square. It was really chilly, so we stopped for some appetizers and hot chocolate.

Tomorrow, we head to the Bronx. It will be fun, whatever we do, because all 4 of us siblings will be together for the day.

My son texted my DD#1to see if she had talked to me recently ( which she hadn't). He told her to call me because he hasn't heard me this happy or relaxed in over two years. They are SO happy I am enjoying myself.

Hope you all have a great week.

Good grief. Glad we can come here to share joys and worries through the same BC lens without fear. I have to believe we make the choices we do for good reasons that make sense in our situations.  Sandra dear, you are so positive and generous with information I hate that someone made you feel unhappy.  Nobody stay in discussion groups if they make life harder.  Bravo for telling us so we can give you a giant sixtyish style hug.

My visit with RO was a rousing success.  She says all bloodwork is normal and pics look good.  She is also happy for me that I am not feeling any side effects from arimidex generic stuff.  Thanks for all the good vibes you all sent. She even suggested that my active clown schedule was exercise that helps keep this old body  moving. She says she has five year old twins so knows a little about dealing with groups of little ones.

Hope we all had a chance to enjoy good sunny weather today.  There are some serious storms out there.

Morning gals.... Teacher, isn't it amazing how all of our perceptions and
ideas change as we get older? It's like we can look at things from all sides,
and see everyone's ideas, and THEN help take care of our loved ones.

And then going through certain things, changes our minds also.

It's about accepting someone else's decision, no matter what we really want
    them to do...

Sometimes, like with my Grandma, and seeing her drift into Alzheimer's and
watch what it did to her, you learn to think like her, when she was alright....
and help make decisions on her behalf. Because she was just completely
    lost.....

It's like you have to take charge, just like she was a child, not knowing
    what was going on.

Keep her leg-warmers on, don't get her up and try and force her to eat, and
just let her sleep, and keep her clean......

It doesn't seem that bad when you are going through it, but looking back, I
don't know how I did it....

Anne, your trip sounds great! I saw the Jersey Boys here in Denver years
ago.... Yes, it was a good show!

Yes Miminimimi, My Doc's told me that about my hip/leg.... Just keep
moving, and that's the best exercise you could do...

I could have gone to physical therapy, but I would rather go home and work
in the garden, as soon as I could..... And WALK!

Starting out with a walker.... then a cane.... then free-stylin' it, but
still use a cane when going for long walks.... like around the Mall.

2 days ago I shoveled mulched leaves into my garden rounds, and NOW my left
hand thumb is really screaming! That means I should shovel more, and walk
    less.... Ha!

Blondie, have you seen those tattoo's done on women's chests? They are
beautiful! I think there was a link on BC.ORG, showing what can be done, for
women who have lost either one or both breasts, and don't, or can't go through
    the implants.... etc.

Anne, thanks for sharing your activities in NY.  I'm so glad for you that you're having a great time with your siblings.  I have only visited NYC once, years ago when I attended a conference and stayed in a Marriott right on Time Square.  I didn't attend any seminars at the conference, just did sightseeing and loved every minute of it.  There is so much that I didn't get around to seeing and doing.

    Wishing everyone a good Monday.

We are given a life—a precious commodity—and are placed on this earth for a short while.  We are surrounded by incredible beauty, strength, and love along with incredible violence, hatred, and prejudice.  Every time a person becomes happier, they are moving one step away from prejudice and violence and closer to love and compassion.  So think of your personal joy as a contribution to peace on the planet as well as food for your spirit.

Beauty of a morning here with all the gold leaves just waiting for a breeze to un-hitch it from the tree.

Teka, I got a kick out of the comic -- Thanksgiving is a wonderful time of year.  Though lots of families celebrate almost all holidays together, like Valentines Day and Easter -- there is something about Thanksgiving to me that signals the end of the year -- so close at hand, and evokes great memories of anticipation while wafting aromas of turkey, dressing and pumpkin and cherry pies, blend and make their way from the kitchen all over the house.  It is special.

Anne, you do a pretty good travelogue too.  I found myself wishing I was in New York.  Shame on me as I don't know the name of the book, but if you are a Bas Bleu fan ( you can google  it ) that is where I saw the book.  It ( I think ) specifically referenced New York, and all the places tourists would go -- and all the "other" places  -- non-touristy -- that you really should visit.  I'm sure every major state and city have 'those' kinds of places to see -- if you just had a way to find out and then go see them all.  Glad Anne that you are finding such relaxation and fun -- even if it is somewhat tiring.  Good for you.

    Blondie -- I am smiling.

Chevy -- you are just wise and Mimi -- you are too.

    Blessings,

    Jackie

I know!  I love Thanksgiving, and getting ready with the Dinner....  But Christmas just isn't as big as it used to be for us....  I mean I only bring down a few little decorated trees....

Some that I made, and set them around the house.... Do you  guys still set up a huge tree, and hang lights all over the house, and outdoors?

For "dinner" , we just have our Daughter over Christmas morning, for Brunch, and to open our presents...  So I have baked ham, and then fix eggs benedict, with champagne.

I remember when we used to do the 7 fishes dinners.... for New Years Eve!

Italian tradition said you have to have 7 fishes!  So I did the fried Squid, Smelts, Oyster stew, Shrimp Cocktail,  Spaghetti with Clam sauce,   and baked Cod.   I know that's only 6.... but no-one counted.  And it was a JOB!

I'm so glad I don't have to do that again.....  I would have been happy with a Tuna sandwich!

Teka, love your cartoons! Mimi, so glad your news is positive and you've learned that doing what come naturally is the best thing for you. Anne, I've enjoyed your travelogue and now have NYC on my list of places to visit.

All the talk about fall makes me want to see some changing leaves. We do get them in and around San Antonio, just not yet and of course they are nothing like what you lucky northern folks get, but we appreciate them all the same. This was a picture from last year when Mike and I were in the nearby Texas Hill Country where the seasonal change was especially gorgeous. It's usually a bit more subtle closer to the city.

Thanksgiving IS the best, isn't it?  Although our two older children live far away and my 29 year old son, who works at night, is usually sleeping most of the day, we still enjoy the day with the same friends who've hosted a Thanksgiving celebration every year for 28 years. Back when it started, most of us had school age children or toddlers and there were 40 or 50 people running around all day. It's fun seeing them each year, watching their kids grow up and in some cases, start families of their own. If my daughters are in town, they always come. My son shows up later in the afternoon every year. One year we decided to take a cruise over Thanksgiving with just our three children and although the cruise was wonderful, we really missed seeing these folks who've become extended family members. Never again. Being away at Christmas would be fine, but not Thanksgiving. The group has dwindled over the years as children have moved away and some of the older members have died, but we count on the same core group of about 20 to be there.

Christmas isn't so much fun since we don't have grandchildren. One of my daughters is usually here but the other can never get away. My son doesn't wake up until about 3 or 4 in the afternoon since he doesn't get off work until 7 a.m. so we don't even open presents until just before dinner. Last year we reluctantly put out a tiny little artificial tree about 2 days before Christmas and my husband tossed a string of lights over the front bushes. Ho hum. I had just had my third breast surgery and wasn't into celebrating anything but a good nap but we put on the happy face for the sake of the "children." I don't think they really care, but can't risk any disappointment so we make the minimal effort in decorations. There are still plenty of gifts under the tree since I shop all year. If the schedule stays on track, I'll have my sixth surgery about the same time this December. Just can't get excited about Christmas anymore.
