I thought we were getting to a point I could open windows and we are supposed to be in the 90s this weekend. I'm ready for some cooler weather, not brr cold, but it's time to turn off the AC!

Choose Inner Peace. Nothing is worth losing your inner peace. Take action as circumstances require, but never surrender your inner peace. Stop. Breathe deeply. Close your eyes and breathe deeply again. Then, and only then, take action - from a peaceful heart.

Teacher, we've had the a/c off and the windows open for a week. Our weather has been 10 on a scale of 1 to 10. I love, love, love low humidity weather.
Was supposed to play golf today but decided not to. Dh is having a liver biopsy. Dropped him off at 8 am at the hospital. Procedure isn't until 10 am but our hospital loves to bring you in and have you WAIT for hours. After the procedure he's supposed to lie on his side for 4 hours. I'll go back about noon and check on him and probably wait with him until he's discharged. Sure am hoping he doesn't have non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver, which two of his uncles had.
There was plenty of time to get in my golf game, but I was so busy yesterday that I decided to stay home today and catch up with some things that needed getting done. There's no point in just sitting at the hospital and dh doesn't like anyone hovering over him.
One errand yesterday was going to Sam's and buying a queen mattress set that is on special. It's for our guest room and won't be used much. We also need a new mattress for our bed. The one we have is so old that it's one of those you could turn over. The mattress manufacturers don't make them any more! I guess the new mattress will be a pillow top. That's all the thing now.
Jackie, I've been meaning to tell you how much I've used the Nutribullet to make my morning shakes. Sam's club has one on sale now for about $10 cheaper than I paid for mine.
Hope everyone has a good day.

Anne -- that was really funny about your Dh and his "problems" choosing some sort of gift for you. Sounds almost as 'clever' ( not ) as mine getting me, of all things a plastic jewelry box. It was a great gift but I'm sure from what I am certain was a totally crestfallen look, he likely realized that it was not the thrill of my life Plastic in those kinds of items is not at all my thing. I set it aside in my closet and continued to use my old beat up one -- and when it had sat there long enough --- it went in the TO Go to Goodwill box.
Not sure but I think very few men bother to learn what REALLY thrills women. Likely because we are all so different. GG -- I am with you. A great pr. of pj's or slippers and I am un-believably happy and content.
GG, I am steadily working on my sugar addictions -- am pretty in charge of most, save for cookies and ice cream. Cooler weather will help with the ice cream -- cookies are a different matter. Dh always keeps them on hand as he takes medicine and wants something in his stomach. This is an art form for him that he perfected some time back -- switching to crackers ( which is what I'd probably do ) is not in the cards for him. Most other things I can usually be somewhat reasonable about.
I do think something is in some of those cookies ( won't name a brand but they have two sides with lots of filling in the middle ) that make it nearly impossible, at least for me, not to desire more. Eating one or two -- yes, I can, but if I'm still in their vicinity, there will be more to follow -- and the feeling of wanting more is really coming directly from the ones I just ate. I'm in touch with myself enough to know that. Just not starting is my key, or only having one or two if I'm ready to leave the house. Still, too often I'm foolish and allow myself to "take" the challenge I almost always lose -- no more than two.
Teacher, our temps will go up slightly which will be nice for our Halloween parade that takes place on Saturday night. In fact, quite nice, but they will start fairly soon after being more on the coolish side. I'll be calling the next three days or so I guess -- Indian Summer for us, but it sounds like a pretty short-lived one. At least those who go to the parade will be a bit more comfy.
Happy Friday all.
Blessings
Jackie

Carole -- I still love, love, love my Nutribullet. I tend to use up things that I'd likely waste since the last stalk of celery or end of the cucumber or whatever like that tends to end up in the trash. That and so many times I wouldn't get a good amt. of fruit per day if I didn't use it. If my combo's are not great ( though I do have to watch the calories ) and it needs it -- I toss my 'drink' back in and add some honey.

Puffin! You have hair! love the picture.
My husband is a thoughtful gift giver. Once in a great while he gives me something I tuck away to "re-gift", but most of the time he gets it right. Twenty years ago we agreed to NOT buy anything for each other, just for the kids. He cheated and got me a few things but I stuck to the rules and didn't get him anything. It was awful. I felt guilty that he was the only one with nothing. We never did that again.
If there is something I'd like, I tell him now. Or better yet, I buy it, hand it to him and say, "Wrap this up and give it to me for Christmas." He will do the same. Still there has to be a few surprises - usually a book I know he will like, or a T-shirt with a funny saying. (Last year I gave him one that said, "I may be old, but at least I got to see all the COOL bands." He loved it.) I love coming up with perfect gifts for my family. They always enjoy the crazy things I find for their stockings. I keep an eye out all year and stash things away.
Last year on Christmas I was only a couple weeks post op from surgery #3, my toughest to recovery. Mike brought in a small artificial trees for the sideboard in the dining room. That was our only tree and we spread gifts out across the sideboard. He threw a string of lights across the front bushes and that was it for decorations. He cooked a delicious traditional turkey dinner and cleaned up afterwards. What a guy.

Morning all! Yes Puffin! You are rockin' that hair! Ha! I've heard it
comes back thicker and curly!Good ideas Minus! I brought home a little Palm tree from a little souvenir
shop in Orlando, and it made it, even in my carry-on... I planted it, and it
sits in my kitchen window! I put 2 little painted snail-shells on it... just a
fun reminder of our family and trip.Morning Carole, Jackie and Anne! That was a good saying Jackie....! As
they always are...Anne, what fun memories! I have to do my nails today too.... Do you ever
have them painted blue, green or black? I see black on TV, and they look so
pretty!Hey Teka! So you two have blood work done together? Is that like the
family that draws blood together, STAYS together? Ha! Was this just an annual
thing? You are not sick are you? Our weather has been perfect here lately, but
I know Winter is coming.Almost all of the leaves are down now... just have to finish up some yard
work.Oh LittleGardens... or GG! A "SPA" day! How FUN! Just enjoy it!
Yes Teacher.... I love the changes in seasons... Summertime is always
just so hot, and you begin to look forward to snow!Carole, how is your Husband? Is that a painful procedure? There is
someone in my SIL's family that has Liver problems also.... Only that is called
Carcinoid Syndrome..... which he is controlling....I bought our mattress many years ago.... Right after we got rid of the
Water-bed... But I have a down mattress on top of that... and it is still so
darned comfortable! I turn it all over every once in awhile, and doesn't seem
to be wearing at all... Then when I turn on our electric-blanket before we hop
into bed, it is all warm, and I can fall asleep in minutes.Actually DH sleeps on the Day-bed most of the time, and we both sleep
better... He can hear a gnat sneeze, and I can't hear a truck rolling through
the house, so it just makes it happier for both of us. And he is such a
wake-full sleeper.... Not me... Unless it storms in the bedroom ON me, I
can't hear the weather going on anywhere!Morning LadyBug and Sandra! Sandra, you guys sound like me and DH! I love
to send gift-cards to the rest of the family, and we just always buy each other
fun things all year long... Or special "gifts" that we know the other one
likes. When we first got married, he bought me this "dress"... I guess it was
really pretty, but it was wool, and I had to take Benadryl to wear it, but I
gave it a good shot... Ha!But then I "knit" him a sweater once... That thing was soooooooo big, I
could have wrapped it around him twice! Even all the elastic in the cuffs did
not help! But he wore it.... at least once.... I never knit again.0 -

Chevy - be careful w/the black nail polish. I put it on once for the taxotere infusions before I iced on the advice of some other sisters. I took forever to get the black out of the ridges in my nails & the cuticles & under the nails, etc. So in addition to all the other SEs, my nails looked dirty.
Carole - hoping all goes OK with your husband's tests.
Wren - happy B-day.

Wren, I hope today was wonderful ... have a Happy Year.

Wren, I hope your birthday was a happy day!
Carole, I hope DH's test is negative. Your weather sounds nice and great for golf. I hope you get out there soon.Holidays are often done to excess in the family. My parents always made a "big" Christmas for us. We do try to meet together but now that the kids have moved so far, it is getting harder. In between my long working hours, I do a lot of ordering online. DH and I wrap the gifts. I shop for all my kids (5) and grandkids (7); plus their spouses or significant others. We save all year for our big (real) tree and shopping. DH is a great gift giver; but he makes it very hard for me to get him anything. I always have a hard time with his gifts.
The past few years my sons have come home for Christmas and we have had fun.
We travel to my DD's (#2) in CT but it is getting to be tough for her to hostess with so many.
Thanksgiving was also at her house but this year I think she will travel.
Last year we went to the Thanksgiving Day Parade in NYC (my first time) and it was great fun. DD was a guest of NBC networks, and we had a fun party in a hotel overlooking the street.DD#1 from DC sometimes makes a trip up to NY. We try to go to Radio City Christmas Show with the kids. It is just getting more difficult with the kids so far.
The girls usually buy a Whole Foods turkey with gravy and stuffing. We all make the sides and desserts.
The plan right now is to go to DD#3 near Boston. At this stage of life, I just try to go with the flow and keep the grandkids happy.

Thank you all for the good wishes. Keep your fingers crossed that Squeakers improves. He is FIV+ so his immune system isn't the best.

Okay help me here.... Who is Squeakers? How did I miss this... Thinking of you!

Happy Birthday, Wren!

Chevy: I asked myself the same question, Who is Squeakers?

If you want to reach a state of bliss, then go beyond your ego and the internal dialogue. Make a decision to relinquish the need to control, the need to be approved, and the need to judge. Those are the three things the ego is doing all the time. It's very important to be aware of them every time they come up.

Great morning here -- its cool. It will warm to almost 80 though, and I will have to do what yard work I can today and tomorrow because we will get rain from all our warm weather. So, so nice though. I think maybe it is our little taste of Indian summer. Cleaned all the deck furniture yesterday and will try to get it into the shed today. It makes cleaning the deck much easier when it is gone. Also cleaned out the dog pen for the first of what will be several times until all the leaves get off those trees. Doing Fall clean-up on two acres is an on-going project for a few weeks.
I don't know who Squeakers is either, but I'm feeling it is a precious kitty. Thinking about you and your fur baby and hoping that things will be ok at present.
Joan, I bet your area is really pretty with Fall colors. I don't LOVE the cold weather, but through the years I've found parts to enjoy. Of course, for me now the big things are staying warm enough while I'm out and staying upright depending on what condition the ground may be in at the time. Otherwise -- its pretty ok with me.
Hope you all are going to have a beautiful Sunday.
Blessings

Squeakers is one of our foster cats. We fostered him until he was adopted 2 years ago. When the adopter couldn't keep him anymore, she returned him to the shelter and we picked him up to foster again. He is black, comes when he's called and is absolutely crazy for feather toys. He is FIV positive which means his immune system is impaired and getting sick is more dangerous. Our other foster cat, Goldie, is finally starting to tolerate him although it's still a little iffy.

Awwwwwww Wren! You are the sweetest! I love your kitties! They are most beautiful.... but tell Goldie that she is beautifuller! So she will like that.

Wren, you sweet thing! Anyone who fosters animals is tops in my book!

Chevy, Thanks for posting the link. She's an awesome woman who continually thinks outside the box. I don't know about you, but I probably have stuff from the 60's and 70's that I could experiment with.

Anyone heard from Di? I sent a PM to her today, hoping she is doing ok. She was having a tough time a couple of weeks ago. Another MIA member is AlaskaAngel. Wondering if she is ok too.
