I'm just not on here as often as I used to be and then I feel bad cuz I care about all of you and these days are going by so fast and thanks Tela for reminding me about the change hate it--the nites r so long. But it's gotten a lot cooler here pretty fast so it's fall for sure.

Cammie -- so great to see you. Been thinking about you and wondering if you were under the weather. Or -- too high on top of it ??? Had to laugh about your saying Carole should have had a cup. You know, that thought didn't cross my mind at all. More proof I guess that I don't think like most people do !!! Maybe I am not thinking at all most of the time. Now there is a scary thought.
Well, I need to get outside with my blower I guess. Dh is stalling and not doing much. He only get jazzed up about these chores in Fall if I'm out there too.

Seems to strange to hear you all talk about raking leaves, getting out heaters and preparing for possible snow. The only hint of fall we have here in San Antonio is the grass isn't growing as fast as it was a few weeks ago. Everything in the garden is still growing and blooming. We are in summer clothes and sandals. Our temps are lower than September, our hottest month, but still in the upper 80's-low 90's.and the air conditioners are on 24 hours a day. They may stay on through Thanksgiving. Sure wouldn't be the first time we had Thanksgiving dinner with the fireplace going for ambience but the air conditioner on full blast. Some years it is cold though. We just never know. If a Canadian front comes down this far, we'll cool 20-30 degrees in a matter of hours. We usually have three or four freezes each winter and every few years get an ice storm. We've even had snow and in fact got some last year...enough to have to wipe off the windshields and enough to make a snow ball. Fun for us. But our weather is quite unpredictable. I remember one year we had an ice storm on Feb 1st and it was 90 degrees on Feb. 28th. The year before we moved here they had 15 inches of snow! Entire city shut down for days I hear.

Oh girls! Someone found Cammi! She sounds like she has been extremely busy, but ..... well..... YOU know! It's just hard working with your flannel pajamas on and answering the phone.... I'm going to go get her and hand her a rake, and get some help around here!

I'm crocheting a rug, with that Fettuccini yarn/thread! It's like a whole roll of strips of T-shirt material, wound all around, and then you just crochet it into something. I'm going to put this little rug in front of the sink I think! I'll send a picture when I finish it....
I'm fixing rice noodles, with Asian fish-sauce that I made, over julienned carrotts, diced jalapeno's, shrimp, cilantro and lettuce...... That fish sauce does not have fish in it.... I don't think.... but you add vinegar, sugar, water, diced jalapeno's and minced garlic, and keep it around for at least a week....
I don't think it even has any calories, but is really tasty! Well, maybe the cooked shrimp? You can wrap it up in those rice papers, and cover with a lettuce leaf... but I just cut it all up and eat it like a salad.
Okay.... that's your cooking lesson for the day.

Sandra, same here. Our AC is still going. The trees have begun to change. We don't have a gorgeous fall like up north but will have some yellow, orange, and red trees. I'm ready for windows to be open and AC off.

Sandra I'm sorry I can't give you "Oh is that nice about u'r weather" when I sitting here with sweter and an electric blanket around me, not that it's that cold outside, but I'm cold.But it is going down to lower thirties at night, so who knows about what our winter will be like.
BTW I have been doing stuff for the good old IRS (my paperwork) that no one understands I finally figured out who writes up all this government stuff, when people become citizens and can speak a little English they give them the jobs to write up all of the rules for txes and they can pay them minimum wage. BUT show top wages for that so it all comes out of our taxes, we actually pay for them to make us totally confused.
Yes Chevy I'm here, Actually I had my Dfor a few days too. it's starting to be more and more days again---and I fooled myself into thinking it was little better. I can't trust the IRS or my bowels.

Chevy, your food sounds "interesting." I have a jar of fish sauce but have never used it. I watch all these cooking shows and read recipes books and impulsively buy ingredients, some of which just sit in the pantry. I'm not a fan of Asian food.
I went to visit my niece in the mental facility again this afternoon. She looked good, though a bit sleepy from the meds they're giving her. She has hopes of changing her ways. I wish I had more belief in her chances. I would love for her to be happy.
Today I was a "loser" in the 2nd round of the women's match play golf tournament. Tomorrow is the luncheon. I can do well in the luncheon phase of a tournament!

Sandra and Teacher are teasing us with talk of air conditioning and sandals. I'm wearing a fleece jacket inside the house! Despite my attempts I can't go back and read all the fun I've missed. You have all been too busy. But my cold is lots better and I've done some grocery shopping, voted, and some paperwork. I did call a couple places with automatic billing to cancel and make sure I don't get signed up again. I haven't used the gym in months, weight watchers hasn't seen my menus in months and so it goes. I can always add these things again if I want to, but for now it's smarter to just plain save my money. My practical side is coming out big time. I do have that satellite radio in my car and that may be the next to go. But that one I enjoy, so will keep it for now.
A friend is coming from her gym class for wine and salad in a little bit. I'll just watch her sweat and enjoy my wine. BUT, I did buy a pumpkin pie for dessert. Love that stuff!
I'm not sure if you all will see the humor in this. My friends Aunt has tons of money and lives in an assisted living center. She loves the deer and wildlife that she watches there and has enjoyed her whole life. Soooo….she purchases hunting licenses for all her friends in the center, non of them can even get outdoors. The number of licenses in the state are limited. It's her way of helping the deer. Of course, she and her friends don't drive at night either. I think it is creative and a bit funny, but am fully aware the deer population is causing lots of damage in some places. Another friend refers to them are huge rats. Hope I haven't opened a Pandora's box here. Hope you can laugh at her a bit.

Well Mimi, I got a huge laugh out of it. I think I'd do just as she does ( buying so many licenses' ) but I do know there can be a thing such as too many deer and problems erupting over it. Sometimes there are but sometimes numbers are inflated on purpose -- most of the time, I go by how many I see and when. There are times of plenty lately, but several years that seemed sparse.
Glad you are feeling better Mimi. We have our I-Heater on which has managed to keep us warm enough for now ( how much longer, though who knows ) but I think we are going to take some rather severe night-time dips in the next couple of days as some cold is coming down from Canada. What leaves still on the trees should be really pretty.
We worked in the yard most of the day today. I did a lot of blowing and raking and will be sore again, but that is ok. I'm so happy that I have the strength ( well, most of the time ) and energy to do some of the harder work around here.
Time for a bowl of soup now. I don't have the steam to really "cook", so that will have to do. Dh can make us some popcorn later.
Carole -- I can finally admit it now -- I get "ideas" about cooking things and find the jar or can three or more years later in the pantry on the far end of the back shelf -- and most of the time can't even recall what NEAT recipe I was going to set before the king and queen here. Sigh !!!! At least I'm not alone.

Our kitchen has no food, only sauces, herbs and condiments. If we couldn't get to the store we would starve. Someone I know got snowed in two years ago for over a week. She lost a bunch of weight because she couldn't obtain junk food. Once she got started, she kept it up and now is normal sized.
Mimi, Got a big laugh out of that. My DIL contributes to Ducks Unlimited because they do so much for duck habitat. They're planning to shoot them, but she thinks overall it helps the ducks.
Chevy, Good looking rolls. I love those. I think fish sauce is made with shrimp. They strain it so it's clear liquid.

Ihave been cooking food much more for the Twins and me 2 eat then I have in awhile with course they don't do the dishes so and I don't have a dishwasher I would be the dishwasher seems like all I do is complain I'm so sorry.
the weather keeps changing up and down and up and down some days it's in the sexies some days it's in the seventies i switch my clothes around I'm laying here having hot they all ships are hot flashes after hot I have to go to the gynecologist on Friday I have no idea why was there three weeks ago, guess they're not getting any money for my treatment if they want to bring you back in like to get my ports lost I asked him if he was going to take it out me said no we would be there for it later okay ladies have a good one

Carole, our friend Rosie, is from Viet Nam, and that gal is the BEST cook in the world. She learned all of her "skills" and recipes from when she was a little girl. Came to this Country when she was 11.... Horrible child hood, if you can only imagine.
Anyway, she and my youngest DD became friends from working together 32 years ago! But when we are invited to her home, we are treated like royalty. She cooks/bakes everything from Prime-rib to Congee... Spring Rolls, Egg Rolls, and can take a potato, and make a banquet out of it! So I learned different tastes, and methods of cooking, and how to make food tast even better!
MOST of it takes very little ingredients, and not a lot of meat... mostly sea-food, and seasonings that bring out the BEST flavor I have ever tasted.
So when I make that "fish-sauce" that I learned from Rosie, I am honoring this little friend who made something of herself, all on her own. She met her DH, our DD was her Maid of Honor, and together THEY are like our best friends. A Daughter from another Mother... that's what she is to me.
I wish you all of you gals could taste one of Rosie's special dinners! You just have to take it from me, you would LOVE it!
Wren, I have the bottle of Fish Sauce... maybe it is made from Anchovies? Anyway, when you mix it with water, sugar, vinegar, diced jalapeno's and garlic, it makes the BEST dressing for any kind of rice dish, or salads I have tried.

Well I just learned everything about Fish Sauce I didn't know.... Ha! I forgot to mention, that I use a lot of fresh Cilantro when I'm cooking Asian.....

One of my other friends went to Viet-Nam, Cambodia, etc. on a tour... She talked about "Congee".... It's this rice, that you cook for HOURS, until it is like a creamy soup, and you use the broth of chicken, and can add diced chicken if you like, or not... I add lots of fresh diced Ginger, carrotts and scallions, and simmer it for about 4-5 hours.
When it is finished, you can whip a couple eggs, and slowly stir it into the "soup"... until it sets... They eat this for every meal if they want! I've had it for Breakfast, or sides with lunch and dinner.

Chevy, Vietnamese food has become very popular in the New Orleans area. And probably on the MS gulf coast, too. Lots of Vietnamese people came here after the Vietnamese war. I've read some articles about Vietnamese/New Orleans "fusion" dishes. Is "fusion" spelled right? It looks funny.
One dish that is very popular is the pho soup (pronounced "fuh.") I've been told by some Vietnamese people that pho is eaten for breakfast in Vietnam but Americans just eat it when they would ordinarily eat soup. It's beef broth with lots of additions that you add yourself. They eat lots of fish but don't fry it. They poach or boil it, which is more healthy. You seldom see a fat Vietnamese person.

Hi everyone. I'm learning so much about food today. Carole, the word "fusion" is spelled correctly. Mainly know because of how it 'looks' to me but also my spell checker didn't burp when I typed it. I have tried with the cilantro and it just tastes bitter to me. Yet --- I'm feeling like I ate a couple of dishes that may have "overdone" the amt. put in and anytime I see it in a recipe I cringe and then ignore it and don't even try to put any in. Carole I think you are right -- Vietnamese generally at not overwt. and I think a good deal of the Mediterranean people aren't either. We just have such adulteration in so much of our food and then it is over-processed and has chemicals to put in so it can sit on a grocery shelf for ages. I try not to buy much that is in a box -- one of my rules is --- if there are more than 6 ingredients listed -- then I will have to balance how much I want or need to take it home.
Blondie -- I bet you like sweets just like me. If it has a sweet flavor at some time I'm going to crave it and the craving will hang in there until I do something about it. That is how I am. I will say though, the past couple of days of hard work in the yard has sure helped the old calories from doing too much damage. I've lost some and that never upsets me one bit. I'll be back out there today. Tomorrow, cold and windy so today has to come close to finishing up. No idea what leaves will make their way off the trees, but I'm hoping we are to the point where we can leave what is left on the ground. I am letting the inside go to do the outside and the balance is getting wonky. I need to be back inside.

Hi everyone
Been busy trying to re-aclimate to FL. When I left Ga, my focus was on packing for NY. I guess I forgot I was coming back to FL, not GA. I have no sandals, none of my favorite tops, etc. DD has to send me a care package. I am also realizing that I am not used to not having a man around the house. The flusher mechanism in the main bathroom doesn't work, Doug took his router for the internet, which means my ipad is slower than molasses, the TV in the front room doesn't work, etc, etc. I certainly don't want Doug back,but sure could use a handy man for a few hours.
I am enjoying reading about your cooking adventures. I consider myself an okay cook, but because most of my cooking includes kids and teenagers, I don't experiment much. I shouldn't really say that- I am always trying new recipes, but with the same ingredients - beef, chicken, pork. I cooked dinner for the family the night before I left NY, and everyone wanted a copy of the recipe, so it couldn't have been too bad.
My sisters youngest grandson, whom I hadn't met before this trip was devastated to find I was gone. He was upset when I wasn't in the car Tues when she picked him up from preschool, but when they got to her apt, he searched every corner in it, then put his hands on his hips, stomped his foot and said "I want Aunt Anne back here RIGHT NOW" Poor thing doesn't understand distance. He's just under 3.
Mimi- hope your cold is getting better. Carole - I sympathize with you about your niece. In 1986 we forced my sister into an alcoholic rehab. Her husband had just passed from leukemia, and she was alone for the first time with her kids, 8 & 11. ( my parents had lived with them prior to their passing in 82 and 85). Granted it was awful timing, but I could not leave there, knowing she was the "drink till you pass out" type drunk. Those kids needed her sober. Anyway, to this day, she has not totally forgiven us, and survives on non-alcoholic beer. She doesn't eat enough to keep a bird alive and is very defensive and private. She lost a house worth at least $250,000 because she owed $20,000 in taxes. Any one of us would have happily paid the taxes until she sold it, then gotten our money back, but she was too proud to ask, even when she knew her daughter had told us. It is very sad to watch her. There is so much more to rehab than just stopping the drinking, and although it was available to her, she was too angry to hear any of it.
Also, I am sorry I don't remember who was talking about NyQuil and liver damage,but my daughter has been diagnosed with that recently. The damage is due to a combination of NyQil and wine. Thank God it was caught early and her liver is steadily improving, but she was taking double the recommended dose of NyQuil to get to sleep every night. She had no idea that one tablespoon of it had the equivelant of 4 Tylenol in it,so she was basically taking 8 Tylenol at one time every night and the amount of wine was just speeding up the damage. She is off the NyQuil completely and limiting her wine intake to less than half what she was drinking.
I am sorry my posts are so long. I think I have nothing to share, then I see something I want to respond to, and once I start, I just keep going.

Carole, that's RIGHT! I love Pho! I love to go to this one special little
restaurant, where you can order which kind of broth you want.... It has lots of
rice noodles, or wider rice fettuccini in it....Then they bring your choice of raw thinly sliced meat... or fish! The
table is then loaded with a platter of fresh sliced Jalapeno's, Asian basil, or
Mint, bean sprouts, which you add yourself, and that all goes in your big
steaming hot bowl of broth, after you add the meat or fish!It's like after each bite, you say "ummmmm".... over and over!
You gals that have never tried "Pho" should make a special trip, and you
will enjoy it, for sure!I have bought the little cubes of seasoned "broth" and make it at home, but
you have to have all the other ingredients also.And no, Asian people are never fat... Ha!

I had a meltdown this morning, cried my eyes out. Radiation was tough
today, for some reason I couldn't take deep enough breaths to reach the
minimum level, and had to keep doing it over and over and over. Of
course the more I had to repeat it the harder it was to take the next
breath. I lost it in the dressing room afterwards, and since then I've
continued to be weepy. Everything just catching up with me I guess.
Tomorrow is the last session and I ring the bell in the lobby. Hope
tomorrow's breathing goes better, would hate to be all red-eyed when

While I'm glad radiologists have invented this new way of treating left side breast cancer so that the heart is spared radiation damage, I've read that it is so hard for patients. (You have to hold your breath and breathe just exactly the right way at the right time, correct?) I'm so sorry you had such an awful time. Ringing that bell tomorrow is going to feel even better because of what you've accomplished.

Jackie, people either like cilantro or they strongly dislike it. I heard a chef on the cooking network explain that cilantro tastes good to some people and tastes really, really nasty to some people. My sister's husband can't stand it and she likes it. I like it and so does dh. Dh hasn't met a lot of foods he doesn't like!
Chevy, I just had a restaurant recommended for its pho. I plan to go there for lunch one day and try it. I've only had pho once and it was home-made. I really liked it.
Tonight we're having shrimp scampi over linguini for dinner. The shrimp are really nice and quite large. DH will have to peel them because I had a manicure today! The scampi is easy. I sauté the shrimp in olive oil and butter with a sprinkle of s & p. Then add minced garlic, grated lemon peel, fresh lemon juice. The sauce in the shrimp will be the sauce for the linguini. We'll sprinkle a fresh-grated Italian cheese over the dish. I usually have romano, asiago, and parmesan on hand in chunks. Yum, yum. I have switched to whole wheat pasta and am enjoying it.
For me cooking is kind of a hobby. I read recipe books and watch tv chefs. I record cooking shows that look interesting and watch them when I sit down to rest. I fast forward through dishes I'm not interested in eating or cooking.

Puffin, I hope tomorrow goes smoothly for you. I had read that ending radiation can be emotional ... I guess it did not sink in because I was surprised when I got emotional at the end. Also, having to breathe a certain way sounds hard and must be tiring ... I bet it can be frustrating too. You deserve a smooth day tomorrow.
Carole, that shrimp scampi sounds yummy. I love whole wheat noodles, but DH does not. I also like cilantro while he doesn't.

Puff, I'm so sorry your having this struggle so close to the end, but at least you won't have too much to worry about since your due for the last one. Hope it all goes well and that you can take great joy in being done.
I'm wondering if I've ever had pho but it sounds like something I could really enjoy. I have found that adding years has increased my ability to be willing to try new food dishes, and finding that many of them are delicious when I thought I'd only find them barely passable. I think it is a reward for getting a little more sensible and sane over time.
I'm done in from another really long afternoon of raking leaves. Had to re-home a lot of twigs and tree limbs Dh left too close to the edge of several areas where we need the space to blow leaves in -- what was he thinking ??? Also had to clip some weeds that make it difficult to move leaves past. Wow !!! Just when Dh's back-pack blower bit the dust -- so he is using my electric one ( still going strong after 14 yrs. ) and he has worn out 4 back-packs.
Anyway -- the raking is too much for him and his rotten back -- so I have been doing the majority of raking on our two acres. Sort of wipes the smile from my face. I hope we can make some real progress tomorrow.

Good morning -- our first really 'cold' day is here. mid-40's all day and really low ( like frosty ) tonight. Most of our leaves are done thank goodness but I'll be working on the last of them later on. Then, after the frost tonight -- probably most of the last few will be ready to leave the tree. We won't bother with them. They will be dealt with in Spring as always.
Not looking forward to the cold which it seems we are jumping into really quick. I think we are still in the process of 'who knows' with the global warming just what we are going to have and when it will start. The past couple of years were totally different from the actual prediction. Just wondering if they get it right this time -- and it mainly sounds like the same one from the past three or so years that has been wrong. An early, and especially cold winter. If they keep saying it -- eventually it just might happen. Something I definitely would not like. Sigh !!! Just wait and see as always.
Time to start the morning chores.
