NancyDrew, great news!  Glad you're feeling calmer and more able to cope.  The visit from your son is something wonderful to focus upon.

Jackie, yay for getting your furnace repaired!  Good news that the problem wasn't expensive.

Mimi, there's a Pizza Ranch in Park Rapids, MN.  We pass it all the time during the summer but have never eaten there..  I assumed it is similar to Pizza Hut.

I played the role of Maid all day today and got the basic housework done.  It got colder as the day went on and the temp. is supposed to drop into the high 20's tonight.  I don't know if I can recall a year when we had a freeze before Thanksgiving.

Jackie, I've never shopped at a Trader Joe's.  From what I've heard about the merchandise, I wish we had one in this area.  We have Sam's Club but not Costco.  I've heard good things about Costco, too.

    Wishing everyone a restful evening.

Oh yippee for Nancy Drew. Take a little time to sit and enjoy good news and look forward to seeing your son. And Nash, isn't it nice to have dr appointments so far off you can put them out of your head a little?

This was a great day to get the furnace cranked up Jackie. Too cold to go without heat today. And also glad Teka kitty got a good report - we love our pets. I live alone with Peggy the giant golden retriever. She is just two years old, but feels so a part of my life. It's been 40 years since I lived without a pet.

And aren't we all shoppers. Target is such a wonderful place to kill an hour or two with a friend just looking. And now they have Starbuck's inside some of them. There is one about 15 miles from me. Not much in my small town except Dollar General and Wal-Mart. Dollar General is like clown paradise. Trader Joe's is fun too, if you can get to one sometime. My catalog for The Vermont Store arrived today. There is a Costco about 50 miles from me, but I don't shop there since I seldom buy anything in bulk.

Now about Pizza Ranch. They have delicious deep fried chicken if you ask me. They are exclusively a buffet with salad, pizza, chicken, mashed potatoes and more. The Pizza Hut here has a small buffet bar, and order off the menu. The biggest risk for me at Pizza Ranch is eating chicken until I am about to burst. Jackie I do enjoy the idea of always having something to do. I enjoy quiet time by myself, but would much rather be busy with an obligation that I enjoy. I'm at my happiest with a full schedule. There was nothing on the calendar for today so I put up my Christmas decorations. Last year with biopsy after Thanksgiving and diagnosis Dec 12th I didn't get much in the decoration mood. This year is better!

Tomorrow the second night at Pizza Ranch. I'll be doing face painting, but plan to only offer four choices. The kids can become a princess, kitty, spiderman, or have a snake swirled across their face. Below is a sweet four year old as she gets her first glimpse of her face paint in the mirror. This was at her fifth birthday party. I was invited to do her sixth birthday last Saturday. Sweet Vivian was a Frozen Princess for sure.

Mimi -- what a darling little girl -- her facial expression I think is at least 4 pages worth if it were words. No wonder you like being a clown so well.  What a lift to the heart and soul.

Another freeze in San Antonio tonight...our 3rd. It's going to be a l-o-n-g winter if this keeps up. Sad We put up with 104 degree summers so we don't have to put up with 28 degree Novembers.

Mimi, I'll be excited to see you in two weeks! Keep me posted on the details.

I've been reading and thought I was caught up then...saw 2-3 more page just this week end.
Welcome to all the new ladies ....sorry several of you are facing surgeries and treatments.  Hang in there...we will be here for you when you are on the "other side" and life slowly returns to a new normal.  That's what we do here...talk about life and the little things that bring joy and gratitude.  And we also listen and understand those down days as we've all had them.
Best wishes for quick healing...to our upcoming surgery and treatment group.
Magical Beans, I also had the experience of my MO telling me to make my own decision about some treatments.  It caused a lot of stress for me...but I did the research and felt OK with my choices.

Rita, glad to see you back here.

Jackie, I think you mentioned "where is Joan lately"...in the past 11 days, I've been in Florida, Washington Dc, and Boston area.  All involved good times with family and grandkids.  It's been very hectic and exhausting but I decided that while I can still do it, I will say "yes" as much as possible to spend time with the kids.  This week end was a "Frozen" party for my 7 year old granddaughter in MA.  It was over the top with a snow machine and guest characters Queen Elsa and Princess Anna, who entertained the girls with songs and crafts and photos.  It was good to see my granddaughter smile, as my DD and SiL are in the process of separation.  It is taking its toll but all went well this week end.

    Back to work....

I will try to read back....I love the stories here.

    Have a wonderful Tuesday!

This forum and everyone hear has become my sanctuary. When you're 23 years out with the first go around, cancer becomes a remote thought. Oh, I'd lend an ear, hear and there, with some news or glance at an article, but it was no longer my reality.  It is now and now I have all of you to whom I bring my doubts and fears and you're always there to listen and help.  I am grateful to be hear.  Thank you.

Oh Chevy -- I loved your graphic so much that I'm just going to say right here and now -- I filched it big time and it is now in my pictures gallery here.  I'd hang my head if I knew how too.

Well, Joan -- you have been busy just really big time.  You will be able to do what you do for a long time to come.  Your interior won't get enough time to figure out that what you do is becoming difficult.  Well, that is about the way it goes.  Sometimes we just don't have the time and patience to get older -- so I just let myself stay younger.  Nobody to stop us you know.

Nancy Catherine --  Yes, this is a good place to stick around most of the time -- of course, frankly, I do feel if this were any other kind of blog a lot of us would never likely have hung in so long -- but we too, though maybe quite a way out from diagnosis had the fear, upset, un-certainty and all the things that go with a dx. like we had.  That kept me here and it didn't hurt that people on my first and other long time thread wanted me to post an up-lifting quote for them everyday.  They gave the task and is was, had been, and remains one I treasure -- so I'm am still here for anyone I can lift up -- even if just for a very short while.  When I started I was carried through, no questions asked and love and caring and hope always present.  We are glad to stay here and try and give back those things we were given freely with great and loving care and feeling.

Colder as they use to say when I was much younger than I am now, than a witch's tit and yes -- I guess one of these days I'll have to look up that statement and see what info might be found because I still don't completely know exactly what it means --- got to admit though---it has a ring to it.

Off to work -- see you all later.

    Blessings,

    Jackie

Just finished cooking and freezing 13 pounds of yams, did 28 pounds last year and still have some left so cut back. Yams were on sale for $.57/lb. The taters that were longer and thinner I baked, peeled, sliced in 1/2" rounds and froze individually and then put into containers with wax paper between the rows so they wouldn't stick to each other. The taters that were more round I baked, peeled, mashed with brown sugar and butter, and plopped 1/2 cup globs into Pam sprayed muffin tins and then froze. Might need to set pans in a small amount of hot water before the globs will pop out, and then I'll put them into containers in the freezer.

I love being able to take a single serving out whenever I want a healthy veggie.

Puffin, I love sweet potatoes.  You got a great price.  I paid almost $1 a lb today at Winn Dixie supermarket.  The potatoes were really nice though.

I also bought two small turkeys, one to cook Sunday and one for the freezer.  My mother and one of my sisters cooked up the plan to have Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday before dh and I leave to go to IL to his sister's house for the real Thanksgiving day.  So I don't get out of cooking after all.

It's quite cold here today, in the 40's, but the sun is shining and it's a brilliant day.  I called the golf pro shop to cancel out on golf tomorrow and learned that everybody else had already cancelled!  It will be much too cold to play at 9 am, our usual starting time.  DH will play about noon with the group of men he plays with.

Joan, it was good to hear from you.  Glad you're having the opportunity to enjoy your grands.

Off to the kitchen to make some tomato soup.  This time of year we like to have soup in the refrigerator to heat up.

hi guys, I received good news today. The biopsy on my other breast was normal! So I now can schedule my lumpectomy on the original bc cancer. Still waiting on oncotype dx since I am her2 positive but am praying that it comes out good as well. Looking forward to the closeness of family and friends. I read others got good news as well. Would love to get in a good snow ball fight with the positive vibs I have right now. Cold here in tennessee! Thanks for being there it has been a god sent to have each of you. Shuf

Big congratulations shuf.  I'm so glad to hear you had a b-9 biopsy.  Of course, yes -- you still face a lumpectomy, but I know what a relief you have gone through.  Back in 2007, I had biopsies on both breasts and it turned out the rt. side was "clear" and so I know how much weight lifts off when you get a partial reprieve.

I'll be hoping and praying right along with you that your Oncotype comes in at a low number.  Your on your way and I hope the good news just keeps on coming.

    Congratulations Shuff!

Also, I will never crab about the weather and snow again! It's so awful to see and read about what the folks in Buffalo are going through! Makes us here in Denver think we live in Arizona, or some place!

That "Lake Effect" looks brutal! Never saw snow so deep in my life!

I'm very happy for you, Shuf. Those of us at the start of this journey depend on good news to fuel us forward.

I had a lumpectomy and radiation 23 years ago. The tumor was discovered during my annual mammogram is a primary, a couple of weeks ago, (that's what my surgeon says who took care of me back then). The HER2's didn't exist back then. Most of these extra diagnostics didn't exist back then.

You are going to be fine and you should look forward to a long and healthy life.

    Good news, Shuf!

Slept in until a few minutes ago.  Felt so-o-o-o good under the warm covers.  Had intended to go to the gym but will get in a lot of walking over in the nearby shopping centers instead.  I'm looking for some little window curtains and a bed skirt for the guest room and anything else that jumps out and says "Buy me!"  Sun is shining and it will warm up to 50's by early afternoon.

    Happy Wednesday!

Good morning.  Wow !!! Yes, the people in and around Buffalo, NY.  I heard just the tail-end of something yesterday about the 6 ft. of snow and just felt like I had heard wrong -- who could get 6 ft. at once I said to myself and thought it was someone exaggerating.  Then with it all over the news this a.m. and saying as well that they could have another three feet -- are you kidding me ????  I just don't think this is normal and am ( though I believed what scientists were saying all along )  wondering if this is going to be more of a standard ( due to global warming ) thing.

Even  our paltry ( compared to NY. ) miniscule three or 4 inches is a ( or was ) rare event before December.   So no kidding -- I am not going to allow myself even a hint of dislike or dismay for the weather we had or might have as I really don't think  we would get anything like NY.  Sure hope not anyway, but I really think not.  Not to say we haven't had some "different and un-likable" weather this past few yrs. that is not truly normal for us either -- but certainly nothing like Buffalo.

Carole, I must have been on your wave length this a.m. as I slept in as well.  Till nearly 7 a.m.  Knock me over with a feather.  I went to bed at about the same time, so figure I had catching up to do or something.  Anyway, it was really nice.  I did have to do some fancy foot-work to get my morning chores done, a bath, and get here to the computer in time to at least leave a quote ( did well since I'm making an entry ) and hope I do as well the rest of the day.

Have to take a friend to a Dr. in Vandalia, Ill -- east of us about 30 miles -- no biggie, but tied up for a bit.  Then extra work ( probably only a couple of hours ) this evening during the dinner hours.  It is all good.  Our temp. will get to about 40 today so will feel like a heat wave to us.  The week-end is 57 with two days of rain due to the rise in temps.  That global warming thing again.  Still amazes me at the number of people who do not believe the scientists on this one -- REALLY !!!  At least 97 % or more of the scientists say it -- and anything is possible, but could that amt. of people ( with the knowledge and training to be the likeliest  to know  )  be wrong.

Oh well, just hope you are all going to have a fantastic day.  I will be checking back in -- not sure exactly when but I will .  See you all then.

    Blessings

    Jackie

Good news for both Catherine and Shuf- nice way to go into the Thanksgiving week.

My Thanksgiving is going to be very quiet this year. Since I wasn't here last year, my son and one daughter went to their in-laws for dinner and plan to do the same this year. And SpongeDoug's family always has a large celebration, so we are sure Dougie will be going there. That just leaves Tracy and me. We will probably get a small turkey breast, and the already prepared mashed potatoes. A few sides and we're done. It will be a quiet day, one for me to spend some real time being thankful for the blessings of this past year, rather than being too busy with preparing dinner for a dozen or more, which leaves very little time for reflection.

My brother saw his surgeon and radiation oncologist Mon. He seems to be doing well and they will start radiation sometime next week, but he will only need 10-15 rounds at most. He is starting to ease back into life. He went to one grandson's football game on Sat, although he stayed in his car because of the weather. Then Sun he went to DD's house to quietly celebrate the other grandson's confirmation. Not ready for large gathetings yet, but ready to get back to enjoying grandchildren.

Speaking of which, one of my GC is at Jeykll Island on a school field trip. They had to cancel last night's 9-10pm activity because of the cold. Other than being so cold, he is enjoying himself. It is his first time being away from family.

I am having my colonoscopy and endoscopy tomorrow, so no food at all today. Not looking forward to the cleansing tonight, but glad to finally get it done.

    Have a great day

    Anne

PS Catherine, Shuf and MoJim, and any other newcomers I might have missed, can you tell us when your birthdays are so we can add them to our list? The year, of course, is optional. Thanks

Congrats Shuf. What a gift your news is.

Chevyboy-you mentioned the Buffalo weather. I am 80 miles south so have not been impacted, but my nephew has been right in the center of things. He has 6 feet of snow in his driveway, and they predict another 2 feet overnight tonight for his neighborhood. Then, temps in the 50's to follow. Good grief. 8 feet of snow melting is not comprehensible to me.

I worry about all the people who can't make it to medical appts and treatments. Travel bans will be in effect for the rest of the week.

Joan811-thanks for your insight. I have enough trouble deciding what to fix for dinner, let alone decide on TX options. But I am gathering info and will make an informed decision I'll be happy with.

    Keep warm all

    Hi gals!

cami....I am with you! I have a terrible time keeping up with all these delightful ladies. I think I need to take a speed-reading course!

Welcome to magicalbean and anyone else that I haven't welcomed. You have come to a good place!

Jackie, thanks for the suggestion about SparkPeople.com. I have never heard of it but I will certainly give it a try for gluten free recipes. I also love Trader Joe's but the closest one to us is in the Chicago area. Remember that candy cane tea that Jan Claire brought to the Illinois Christmas gathering a few years back? The only time you can get it is during the holidays so Mary Jane's daughter buys up several boxes for me and brings them when she comes home for Thanksgiving. If you love hot tea and you have a Trader Joe's near you, you should definitely try it. It's addictive!

Hi Joan! You've really gotten "around" lately, gal! I'm so sorry to hear about the separation that's happening in your family. They are always hard on everyone. Sometimes the children adapt faster than we grown-ups! I loved the picture of you and your three granddaughters. Wow! You are really lookin' good!!! :-)

Carole, it's cold in Illinois so bring plenty of warm clothes when you come for Thanksgiving. It was 9 degrees yesterday morning! I want my summer back!

Good news for shuf and Catherine! Yay! Aren't early Christmas presents great?

Well I have a load of laundry that needs to be folded and I need to organize some Christmas gifts that I have already purchased so I know what I still need. I started shopping earlier this year since we will be heading south right after Christmas and I have lots to do before then. No Black Friday for me.

Everyone in the colder climates........try to stay warm!

Wow, Anne, you will be so glad to get tomorrow done with -- the test parts anyway.  I haven't had a Colonoscopy ever and I know I should. I did the prep though for something else that was done after my cancer dx.  I just don't remember the test.  Naturally, and the reason why I have put that darn test off so long, is that for some reason -- something always hangs around where it doesn't belong -- no matter how CLEAN the juice is supposed to make me.  We had a 73 mile trip home that day and I purposely brought something for me to sit on and you might know -- disaster struck about 25 miles from home.

Really irritates me to say the least.  I guess I've been hoping if I can stall off long enough --- they will come up with something else that works better than the juice cocktail and won't have dreaded after-effects.

Long day so far.  Took my friend to a Dr.'s apt in Vandalia.  About 35 miles from here.  Got home late but that is ok.  In about 20 mins or so I will leave for work at the Dr.'s house where I work.  It won't be a long night -- so that is good.  We stopped at Denny's for lunch.  That was nice.  Was hoping that they would still have the Cheeseburger Quesadilla but it was off the menu.  I could eat my way to rack and ruin with those so just as well.  I did get a Cheese Quesadilla instead and a half order of Nachos Supreme -- O Yum.  We don't go there often so I feel I can indulge when we do.

We are to the getting dark by 5:05 p.m. now-days.  I so don't like that.  Well, probably if I were actually retired I would not pay it much mind, but it makes the day seem as though it has flown by.

Anyway, I hope you all had a good day.  I'll see you all later.

    Jackie
