I've been laughing my substantial @#& off watching these two songs. I think someone (Chevy?) shared the first one about older ladies earlier in the year, but it's worth watching again. The second one is for all the wrinkled ladies. Woo Hoo! Let's have some FUN.

Hi gemmafromlondon and welcome to our thread. I am so sorry that you had some complications from your surgery but am glad to hear you are doing better. It sounds like you still have to do radiation. They will probably wait until they are sure that you are healed up. I didn't have any problems with the radiation. I went everyday except weekends and it really took longer to get undressed than it did for the radiation treatment. The treatment itself is painless but you have to pamper your skin to keep it from burning. They give you creams for that. Some gals complain about fatigue near the end of the radiation treatments but I even escaped that.

Come and join us often. There is always somebody here who can lighten your spirit or offer suggestions to make your journey easier.

I am packed except for the last minute things and we are hoping to pull out early tomorrow and get ahead of the snow they are predicting. My DIL just called to say that my son was home sick all day today with cold symptoms and a fever. I guess she wanted to let us know what we are walking into tomorrow! Hopefully he will be feelling better tomorrow and everyone else can escape it.

Since I am not taking my computer and since I have a terrible time posting from my phone, I probably won't be back on until we get back home after Christmas. I want to wish each and everyone of you fantastic gals a very Merry Christmas and a very happy and healthy 2015. For those of you who are traveling, drive carefully!

    Rita

Welcome Gemma. I'm sorry your circumstances brought you here, but it's a great place to make friends, vent, and share concerns, info etc.

I am 66-was diagnosed in August and have had lumpectomy and radiation. I may or may not take a hormone blocker-that will be decided next month.

Radiation was uneventful for me, but everyone seems to have different experiences and reactions. I suggest browsing several topics at BCO. The potential to learn and to connect with others in the same leaky boat is endless.

    gemma ,

Welcome to you.  Glad that your surgery is behind you but sorry you had some problems with it.  I hope with that the worst is behind you.  As Rita mentioned, usually the radiation goes fairly well for most.  You will need to heal up well before your radiation.

Usually there is always someone here to chat with and we are mainly light-hearted, but can be very serious too.  I hope you will come often.

Welcome Gemma, I'm 63, had lumpectomy, chemo and radiation, finished on Halloween and now taking an estrogen blocker. My skin got a little pink and tingly from the radiation, had occasional brief shooting pains thru my breast but overall got through radiation pretty well. With the node removal you're at risk for lymphedema in that arm, so no IV's, blood pressures or injury to that arm. Check with your doctor about how much activity you can and should be doing with it, and whether you should be seeing a physical therapist who specializes in lymphedema. It's better to prevent lymphedema than to have to deal with it.

Welcome Gemma and MagicalBean - I'm 67 and exactly one year and two days ago was my surgery. Then the radiation. I was luckier than you, Gemma, with the healing process, but believe in a year you will have this ugly problem behind you. Then you will be able to laugh and joke with us as we put life in perspective.

Chevy - there's no slipping something by you. I'm glad you can tell I'm smiling even though you are a long way away. I love love love the picture of Chevy and Cami on their way to find me. Good to know I'm safe if I need help! (Gemma et al this is a long standing joke because I am a widow who has recently renewed a friendship with a former high school/college boyfriend after 45 years.) The picture had me laughing loudly so my giant Peggy dog jumped up to see what was happening. Sandra you are amazing still maintaining your sense of humor even though it sounds like you look as if you were shot with a shotgun and have buckshot wounds all over your chest and abdomen.

About Peggy Dog: researching golden retrievers my son-in-law found that the standard height for female was 20-22 inches, males 24-25. Peggy stands tall at 27" at her shoulders. It's nice that I can stand up straight and hold on to her collar for a cane if I ever need to. She does take up a lot of room in my been and pushes hard against me.

Reading in the classroom was wonderful today. I gave the poem Night Before Christmas as much gusto as I could and the pop-up pictures were beautiful. The kids oood and aaad as if they were fireworks on the 4th of July. It made this granny (Mimi) feel good. (The grandkids call me Mimi.) Besides reading to the class, the guest reader is supposed to explain what reading has done to help me in my job as a clown. Good grief, the old teacher in me just popped right out. I sure had fun. And the Christmas music the whole school assembly sang together was great fun, too.

Tomorrow is a busy day. Grocery shopping, a few gifts to wrap, and then work at the restaurant clowning around. The biggest problem is I'm at the lake and will have to drive 1.5 hours to get to the restaurant and then the same back here. But my son, DIL and grandson will be here when I get home about 10:00. Three hours driving for a three hour job is crazy. But the job is every week and I don't want to loose it. Since I cancelled to go to Texas I figure I better be there tomorrow night. And it could be a busy night if mom's don't want to cook. Kids under 10 eat free on Tuesdays; thus the clown doing face painting tomorrow night. Balloons next week.

I'll probably check in here on Christmas Eve and Christmas day since I'll be alone with Peggy part of the time. No need for us chicks to go it alone. Write a post and I'll be you'll get a reply from some beautiful woman over 60. Night all.

Oh again I'm way way behind, my behind shows it too. Wow some new people I want to welcome, but of course sorry u'r here, but these ladies are wonderful and u;ll be right at home here before u know it.

I've felt so busy with work and shopping and wrapping and little stuff, I feel guilty cuz I really don't do that much but to me it's a lot.

OK Mimi again u pulled a St. Charles on Chevy and me and Chevy St.harles is about 15 minutes from where I live and BTW it is very pretty there. but what do we know about this MAN--being a man is strike one, now what else don't we know.?

Gemma Chevy is like u'r age and she's just as sprite as anyone can be. And since she has a new car, she thinks she's going to pick up a better class of men for her job that she still does. HA it won't happen Chevy. She's a semi -pro, 1/2 retired but hlf still works so she's still trying to make a couple of bucks

Sandra I'm so glad u'r DD is with u now and hope u DH's numbers go up.

Hey Bondie, Teka and Jackie and of course Carole--U gals keep things up and going all the time.

Rita have a safe trip, and hoping any one traveling will have one.

have not caught up on all the posts, so if I'm missing something new I'm so sorry.

I have to finish wrapping tomorrow and fry sweet peppers too. So I hope I'm not busy workng to much cuz everything takes me longer, we know how lazy I am. We're having SIL's family here for Christmas Eve and my goofy kids even clean closets, they're nuts. I just keep my door closed, good enough for me. The next day we go to my nieces's with my sister and we love that, that's what my peppers are for. LOL I don't make them often any more so I hope they turn out good.

OK I should get myself to sleep, somedays that's about all I do--I don't know why I can't tonite.

    Many Hugs for everyone.

Jackie would not like our weather today.  It's gray and damp outside.  The forecast is for 70 to 80 percent chance of rain with a rain of bad storms.  Not cold, though.  Highs in the 70's today.

I told dh last night that I would go to the gym with him this morning.  Turns out it was a lie!  I just couldn't get out of bed that early.  So he went by himself.  I haven't worked out since I got this nasty sinus/cold affliction.  It's gradually getting better but hangs on.  I'm so tired of blowing my nose.  Hopefully, this too will pass.

I intend to make a grocery list today and go to the supermarket to buy ingredients I need for dishes I plan to make for Christmas dinner.  My mother has a hair apptment at 1 pm but we'll probably have to cancel it because of the weather.

    Happy Tuesday to all.

Just a quickie since I have to leave for work soon.  So glad to read all the entries here.  Great to touch bases with those who have been busy and not able to post as much lately.

Carole, your right -- icky-icky weather.  We are warmer here and suppose to have sun but I'm not sure where it has gone.  Might have suspected since it was quite dim while it was out.  Maybe we will get lucky and it will come back.

Cammie, I so, so, so, love fried peppers.  I do them too and sometimes Dh and I just make us a pepper sandwich.  I haven't done them for awhile and you reminded me of one of my big favorites -- or hmm, maybe I should just crash your party and fill up on some already done.

We are going tomorrow night to BIL's house.  I mainly avoid spending much time there , but have to honor the holiday for the family.  It is all men now pretty much and well, you know, the conversations are usually about things that I have zero interest in if that.  Still, now and then I can go and placate the family at large and Dh in particular.  They really want a cook, but that is ok.  The reason doesn't matter -- just doing it.

I'm off to work but will be back later.  See you then.

    Blessings,

    Jackie

    Hi Everyone

Sandra- glad your daughter is there to help. Hope maybe she can pull the "Daddie's Little Girl " card and convince him to take it easy. At any rate, make sure you let her do as much as possible while you have some time to heal.

Welcome Gemma and any one else I may have missed.

Well, I have done it again- overbooked myself totally. To start with, Tim ( my youngest son) should be moving out within the next two weeks and I was really looking forward to helping him and his fiancé set things up, but I go back to Georgia Sun. I am totally supportive of his getting out on his own, and adore Nissa, but they will be taking his pitbull with them, of course. Those of you who have been around for a while will remember the saga of SpongeDoug (my DD's ex) and the mess that turned into. He is still volatile at times, like screaming at her a few days ago because he had to give her his last dime in child support, leaving him penniless. She threw the money back at him, told him she wasn't the one spending all the money at bars and casinos and told him if he doesn't get it together by Jan, she will just go to her lawyer and have it taken out of his disability checks before he ever sees it. Anyway, we are a little nervous about her and her son being here all alone, with a just cocker spaniel that adores Doug for protection. So we went to the Humane Society Sat, hoping to find a dog that would not know Doug as family. We had a whole list of shelters to visit.

At the Humane Society, our first stop, we found not one, but two incredible pups. Brandy ( they called her squirrel), is a three month old redbone hound- beautiful and wellbehaved so far, and Toby ( a four month old golden retriever- so cute, and also doing well. Tracy wasn't quite up to caring for 3 dogs on her own, so Baxter (the cocker spaniel) now lives with Doug. We think they will be good for each other. Doug needs someone to care about, and he and Baxter are good friends- in fact, he is the one who actually picked Baxter. And Dougie will see him every time he goes over to his Dad's

So now, we have two puppies to take care of. Plus weeks ago I was trying to clean the outer part of my ear- not going near the canal at all, but haven't been able to hear from it since. I guess I kind of adjusted around the house, and most of the time I am out, I am alone, so don't notice, but last week, Tim took me to see what he hopes will bre his new home, and in the car with him I couldn't hear a thing from that ear. I called my Dr and his first available appt is New Years Eve. I will already be in Ga. Then I realized I am flying to Ga and need to get this ear looked at before I fly, so I have to go to one of those walk in clinics. And I told my daughter I wanted to take her daughter shopping for clothes for Christmas, and she is insisting on going with us- which totally defeats my plan of spending a day alone with my grandaughter and she wants to do it today. I also have to get my nails done, they are way too long, I have a Dr appt at 10am tomorrow, the day after Christmas I am going bridal dress shopping with my son's fiancé, and I leave Sun morning. I am exhausted already.

I hope all of you have a safe, healthy and joyous Christmas.

    Anne,

The puppies are darling. You are so good to get shelter pets who need you instead of designer dogs that cost hundreds. After reading what's on your To Do list, I needed to take a nap. Goodness girl, you are burning that candle at both ends. Hopefully things will settle down soon.

Anne, hope everything works out.  Never a dull moment in your life.  The puppies are cute.

Teacher, that's one of my worst fears, detached retina.  Best of luck to your dh.

Jackie and Cammi, I've never eaten fried peppers.  I've sauted peppers for using in recipes and I've roasted peppers.  And eaten them raw with dips.  But fried is a new preparation.

I did my grocery shopping today and will get started on some Christmas dinner cooking tomorrow.

    Hi to everyone.

HI and Welcome to all who are new here. You have found a great support group.

DGD and I made drop sugar cookies, thumb print cookies, Ginger snaps & strawberry oatmeal bars today. Made up gift boxes for friends.

It snowed to day in the Davis Mt's of West Texas, was wonderful.

Sandra, sorry to hear of your husbands health problems, hope everything will turn out alright.

It is going to be nice to have the next 17 days off from getting DGD to school at 7:45 AM

Well I need to get to bed.

    God Bless each of you.

Merry Christmas from my Mountain in West Texas

Hi and welcome to all the new ladies. This is a great group of ladies.

Teacher, Best of luck to your dh.

Anne, puppies are cute, Hope everything works out for you

    Mommarch, the cookies sound delicious

Chevy, How is your new car?

Minimieni(sp), St. Charles is about a 30 or 40 minute drive from me. Maybe we could meet some time when you are in the area. Camillegal would hopefully be able to meet us also,

Was getting ready for work and they called and said to come in at 8 am instead of 7:15 am. We will close early today at 3pm

DH has been off work all week so far. He has been babysitting three of the grandkids on Mon & Tues. for our son and dil. so they would not have to take days off since he has vacation days to take or loose them before end of year.

Need to finish getting ready for work.

Wishing everyone a very MERRY CHRISTMAS!

The most vivid memories of Christmases past are usually not
of gifts given or received, but of the spirit of love,
the special warmth of Christmas worship,
the cherished little habits of home.

    SailingWind,

Your Christmas graphic is Arizona perfect.

    Teka,

Loved your for real kit-kat under the tree.  So at home .  So great to see a nice spoiled cat who knows exactly who is boss of the household.  I also adore the second one as it is how I feel about most of the people in my life --- there are a few others I DON'T feel that way about, but they are truly stuck on the side-lines where they will stay.

    mommarch,

I heard your sigh of relief all the way here in Illinois.  I hope you do get a big chance ( no negatives events any where near ) to rest up.  Sometimes our routines get so much better if we can catch a break from them.

    Teacher,

Wishing your Dh much success with getting his eye issue dealt with in a positive way.  Hope I never have one of those.

Hi to everyone out there and hoping you all have a safe, happy, healthy Christmas filled with love for each other.

    Blessings

Oh WAIT! HOLD THE HORSES kids! We have a new someone.... from LONDON!!! We should make her talk, because I love their British accent!

And so Welcome "gemma!" We like to talk to each other, and have fun, and we're always here when some of us aren't feeling well....

SOMEtimes we even offer advice.... but best to ignore it.... and we post recipe's and we butt into your business when you are out running rampant, with nothing good on your mind...!

We must watch out for Meemers.... We tease her, but it's all for her own good.... we think.... Ha! Snooze

Sandra! Yes, that IS what we look like...Hah! You bad girl! You know, I just made me a "shrug" or something similar! It is sooooooo warm, and I look GOOD in it, but it's something an old lady would wear, I think...Ha!

So since I'm only 77 I shall wait until I get "old" to wear it as a coat!

Until then, I put it on when we sit around the house... It is soooo cozy!

And OH! "MAGICAL-BEAN!" I just love that name! So what does that mean? Glad to see you here!

Yes, Meemers! We must keep an eye on you... We can look into the future you know.... and we see monkey-business... along with your other activities... so you are on a short-leash....

You need me and Cammers.... SOMEone has to keep an eye on you.... and not just that person-type MAN you are bound and determined to get into trouble with.... We are your conscience.... remember that...

Now Cammi! YES I am what's her names age.... I forget her name now... She is from London.... so she says.... but we don't know that for sure.... do we? How have you BEEN oh lonely one? Yes.... I fried peppers today too! Now how hard can THAT be? You're just a regular Martha in the kitchen, aren't you?

And peeled and prepared a Pomegranate , and made that Broccoli, cranberry, scallion, walnut salad.... And made that fresh Cranberry sugar-free jello, celery, walnut, and stuff SALAD! And to make you feel even worse, I made the Hollandaise Sauce for the Eggs Benedict tomorrow, and sliced the ham.... and toasted some potato cakes!!!!

I think that's all.... at least for now.... Oh! And cut up a Watermelon... You guys want to come for Dinner? Or Brunch tomorrow?

Okay, I had better get busy! I read all your posts, but forgot what I read.. Except about your ear! I just HATE that you can't hear! Maybe you pushed something back IN there? An ENT can reach in with this 2 foot long instrument and pull out whatever it is.... so don't worry...

Okay gals...! Merry Christmas everyone! xoxoxo

How do we know where anyone is from? U silly Goose, I love the British accent, it sounds so high falootin' like us. And thanks for rubbing it in to us ALL u do, cuz we all know u work at night too, so u have loads of energy, good for you and all the food u make, I notice u like walnuts in everything, Probably cuz everyone u know is allergic to nuts, Clever .

Well in about an hr. this house will be loaded with people and I'm ready for bed, not dressed for it but ready anyway---so Again Wishing everyone a Blessed Christmas and so glad I can hide in my semi-hidden room too.
