love the grandchildren pics. Our DIL screens calls and hasn't returned calls for the past month. Other Han missing my grand girls, I haven't felt like begging to,see them.
Dealing with insurance and blood pressure issues. Insurance won't cover med that works and I'm now taking three instead of one. Back to dr tomorrow. Once he documents everything, he hopes to have a good case to get medthat works covered. From 201/101 to 81/50 makes me non-functioning.

Hi all, After my trip to California, we were home for 3 days. We ferried to CT and to New Hampshire for a wedding. It was wonderful to see good friends and enjoy the scenic setting. DH had caught my CA son's respiratory illness. On the way home from NH Monday, I came down with it. I do nothing but sit on the sofa or outside on a lounge chair. I had such big plans for this week before my return to full time work in 11 days.
Our kittie was in boarding again - She is growing, and her behavior is changing a bit. She is exploring the house and hiding on us, and playing a lot more. All good! She still sleeps most of the day but is starting to seek us out at night and whimper on the 2nd floor. We don't allow her in bedrooms because so many of our guests have allergies.
Kittie came home from boarding with itchy ears - they tell me she has yeast and gave me drops. Always a pricey surprise! (vet check, lab test, meds)
It is good to see some familiar "faces" checking in. The discussion about estates is very important and helpful to those of us who have put it off. I will put it on our priority list. The fact that a trust can protect assets is an important point.
Jackie, how nice that your employers are getting a new pup. It sounds like a good choice.
Chevy, your birthday sounded like a wonderful celebration. You are amazing...with all you do. Don't stop - have a wonderful year ahead!!

Goodness, hoping this works. Most of my tool-bar is missing save for the emoticon. Sure looks funny up there. I downloaded Windows 10. May have to get Microsoft to help me define my settings. Boy, some of it looks nice, but I have a lot to learn.
It rained a couple of really good rains today and I think there is more slated for tomorrow. Didn't get much done today. Went to Walmart to have my glasses adjusted, but don't know how well they are doing. It was so overcast so will have to wait until it is nice and light again. Someone told me this afternoon that likely any eye center would have helped me out --- but I've always stopped in to Walmart's. Well, we needed a couple of items from there anyhow so it wasn't a wasted trip, but I lost my mood for getting busy around here so downloaded instead. Sure hope I end up liking this.
I'll see you all in the morning then, and if I can't figure this thing out fast enough then I'll be putting my little quote in some time in the afternoon.
Jackie
ETA: Teacher, somehow I missed your post. My goodness -- I sure hope your Dr. can get you the right medicine. That is just not ok at all. Fingers crossed.

Anne, I agree with those who recommended an estate lawyer. You need a professional.
Teacher, sounds ridiculous to have to take 3 meds when 1 would do the trick. Hope you get the situation resolved in your favor.
Joan, what a bummer to come down with an illness with so little time left before you return to work.
Greetings to everyone else.

Carole, enjoy the cooler beautiful weather you've been having in MN. I meant to congratulate you on your golf game! That is truly stellar! A great game. Celebrate, then go out and play again!
Jackie, I do not like Windows 8 that I have but am afraid to upgrade. I just upgraded my phone and with the upgrade came a lot of apps I don't want along with a total color change on each page. And, of course, some subtle changes are there which create a new learning curve. Good luck!
I plan to feel better tomorrow and must run some errands, so I should get dressed when I get up.
nite all...

I have to go to work, but will be back later. Joan, you are so right. I think I'm far too use to Windows 7 and am going to have 10 taken out.
Having said that, though, I do think 10 is much better than the myriad number of complaints that I was hearing from 8 and in fact, I think after a bit, you could buy computers with earlier ( like Windows 7 ) os in them. Dh had 8 hated it, and took it out --- but is really liking 10. I'm just too used to how I got around and did things with windows 7 and so as not to be stumbling around for months --- I'm going to have 10 removed.
See you all later --- after the extraction.

Good morning....I started a Z pack and got off the sleep meds, and I feel more energy today. Still congested and coughing, but I feel well enough to get dressed and run errands. I have not been out since Monday. I don't mind lying low, but there is so much to do before I return to work.
I took my indoor kitty for a walk outside today and she loved it and wanted to crawl away and hide under things. Of course I did not let her. She is slow to move and rather clueless. I want to get her an outdoor enclosure - has anyone tried one for an indoor cat? I'd like her to spend time on the deck with me.

Joan, Catios are very popular here. There was even a catio tour earlier in the summer. We take our cat out on a leash. He wants to go across the street and we have speedy drivers because we're the only street without something to slow them down. I would like to make him an enclosure that could be moved around the yard. Being black and a little fluffy, he prefers the shade.

Hi
Joan, so sorry your vacation ended with sickness. My son flew to So Carolina this summer to bring his wife and daughter down for a few weeks. He was sick when he left here and by the time he got back three days later, they were all sick. We had prepared a big birthday celebration for my granddaughters birthday, and it was too late to cancel (we thought). Since we couldn't reschedule, myDIL texted everyone telling them about the colds they all had. While we ( mainly my daughter who is in a wheelchair because of a broken ankle), had prepared food for about 20 adults and at least 15 kids, we had 8 adults, mostly family and no kids.
Had a great time yesterday. Went to a "luncheon", very casual, with a group of people I used to work with at the middle school. Everyone there is now retired. The best part is that our old principal was there. He is such a wonderful person. He is truly loved and admired by anyone who knows him. I got there at 1:30, lunch officially began at 2:00 and we didn't leave the restaurant until after 5:00. The school we worked at has changed principals 3 times since I left, and the turnover in teachers reflects the downgrade in leadership. Last principal was arrested at the guidance counselors wedding for alcohol and drug use and possession- enough to sell I believe. They now have an interim, and cannot replace the old one permanently until he has his day in court. Seems so silly and unfair to the students, but is based on innocence until proven guilty. He is currently working in one of the districts area offices.
One of the teachers that just retired in June was naming the teachers who have left this year. She ran thru about 10 names and the rest of us just looked at her- none of the names were ones we recognized and we have all retired within the last 5- 10 years. It's very sad, because working there was a joy, we really felt like a family. Everyone, from the principal to the janitors were treated the same, always. Mr C, the principal, knew 95% of the kids at the school by name and there were over 1200 students. He also was out side at dismissal every afternoon, directing traffic. What a role model and inspiration he was. The turnover in faculty then was extremely low- and usually was not because teachers were unhappy teaching there. Spouses got better jobs that required moving, or they quit to be stay at home moms. And he was there for 30 years- most of the staff that started with him were still there when he left.
Anyway, back to my financial situation- I have contacted a CPA that my girls used to babysit for, and he is out of town till next week, but I will set up an appt as soon as he gets back, and one of the teachers that works at the camp also works for Prime America part time, and he said he will bring one of their best guys over to meet with me. I have known Jimmy for over 20 years, and I know I can trust him to have my best interests at heart. The CPA has also said he will do as much as he can then will recommend someone to finalize everything.
Funny story re beneficiaries- when adding the kids to my 401k as beneficiaries, I needed to include their SS#'s. I have them for everyone but the youngest. I texted him to get it and his response was, " I don't need any benefits. I just want you to be here forever". I told him I want that too, but looking at the past, so far not many have gotten that chance, but that I would be here as long as I possibly can. He stopped by last night and I again asked he for the SS# and he still refuses. I told him his name, DOB and address were down so he was going to get something anyway. He changed the subject.
Gosh, I always intend to post a short note here and end up with a full length novel. Sorry

Anne, I feel the same way about my mother--want her to go on living and enjoying life. And she is 92! My middle sister just spent a couple of days with my mother and they had a wonderful time. Linda took her to get her handicap placard for the car renewed. She also hemmed and altered some new dresses I had ordered before I left home. My mother hadn't worn them because they were too long and also too large.
What my mother most enjoyed was going out for lunch a couple of times.
I still use Windows 7 and will stick with it until forced to change. Why change something that works?
It's overcast today with a chance of showers all day. We've already had a couple of showers. The weather suits my "job" for today, updating the checkbook register to reflect all the automatic transactions.
Hope everyone is feeling good today.

Hi gals!
I am frantically trying to catch up once again on all the posts. It has been a crazy summer. I had each of my three grandsons for their own special week, and the whole family for the 4th of July long weekend. I loved every minute of it but it didn't leave me much time for me. Then Dave and I co-chaired the Golf 4 the Cure at one of our courses. We had the event this last Saturday and made nearly $5,000 for our cause. It wasn't as good as last year but we had lots of trouble with people committing to help and donate and then pulling out at the last minute. I think this will be our last year doing this. It is SO much work and we don't need the extra frustration.
Both golf clubs had their big ladies events this week so it's been a fun but busy week. Our team won second place in the net division at one of the clubs and I won my flight today... but unlike Carole, I did NOT have a fantastic 77!!! :-)
Carole....wow! a 77! There is no way I could golf with you. That is fantastic! I would be so excited! That was super.
I am enjoying these warmer days as I love the heat. I need to get offt here and go water some plants and pull a few weeds before the mosquitoes come out later this afternoon in full force. The bugs have been terrible this year. I always put out citronella plants on my back deck and they usually take care of the mosquitoes but not this year! We have just had too much water and they have too many places to breed.
I hope you are feeling better, Joan and that everyone else is doing well!
Maybe I'll be able to keep up better now!

Good morning to all! It is raining a bit this morning! Almost unheard of in August even in a normal year in the Great Central Valley, and in the drought...suffice to say that we sat out in the pre-dawn rain with our coffee for a bit.
I am off to Reno and Lake Tahoe for a few days for a family wedding that has turned into a family reunion. The best part is that both of my kids and my two grandkids will be there, which makes it a very worthy celebration! After the festivities end Sunday we are going to just spend a few days relaxing and enjoying being together.
Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Have fun, Octogirl!
I have an apptment to have my hair trimmed at 10 am. Then off to the Laundromat with a big load of laundry and BIG bag of quarters. Finally, a stop at Walmart to have a couple of prescriptions filled.
I'm hoping to go out fishing this afternoon.
Happy Friday to all.

Howdy, it's me !!!! Back on my Windows 7. Getting 10 was a long arduous procedure which someone did in-correctly ( maybe I'd have been as well to try it myself, but thought I needed an "expert". ) Anyway -- my screen was stuck at a certain spot overnight and after a couple of hours total --- we had to wait for a special technician --- we finally got things organized and back here. Everyone was holding their breath --- the whole thing could have crashed, but it has held up -- so far, so good.
For anyone who may have been thinking on upgrading to 10 --- it will be free for a yr. so you can do it anytime in that time frame if you wish. My issues with 10 ( as it turns out -- highly explainable ) were that HP and Dell and I assume a couple of others have not as yet completely managed to update the drivers that are actually needed for some people to install 10 properly. So, the tech told me to wait for a bit --- at least two weeks and then I could put it back in if I wanted. We will see --- but I'm glad to have found out that it wasn't poor installation on my part. I will think on it. Dh told me that earlier versions from 7 on up will no longer be 'serviced' by Microsoft so that is why people may want to put 10 in --- especially since it will be free for a year.
Otherwise, just happy to have life back to normal for now. Hoping ( I haven't tried other parts ) that everything that I do continues to work as well as is going on right now.
I'll see ya'll later then.
Blessings
Jackie

Hi Ritajean, your summer sounds busy - that is how mine started. Now that it is wonderfully quiet, I sit here still a little congested. Yesterday's "first" outing was great but I paid for it at night. No sleep until 5 am, then I slept until noon.
DH found kitty lying with me in bed and I never knew it. Neither of them woke me.It's a beautiful day and I hope to get out to the beach. I won't ask a friend along as I am still very congested.
Rita, it's true that when a volunteer project becomes all work for a few people that it may be time to give it a rest. Perhaps you can find another way to raise money with a Facebook page or a simple donation request.
I also enjoy that warm sultry summer air. I turned "up" the temp on the AC so I could open the doors for awhile. It looks like our new AC may have cost about $50 extra the first month as we figured it all out. That's a lot...but when I go to work, I can program it to come on just before we get home.Octo, what a wonderful wedding and reunion you have coming up! And such a beautiful setting. Have a very safe trip.
What a nice image of you enjoying the much-needed rain with your coffee in hand.Carole, I am sure your mother misses you but it sounds like she has had a good visit with your sister. What a blessing to have your mom doing so well at 92.
Anne, good luck with your planning. It's something we all need to consider.

Jackie: Here's a quote from PC World about Windows 7. They will continue to provide security patches. More details are in the link below. If you like what you have, you should be OK. I don't plan to upgrade until wild horses drag me - kicking & screaming I might add. I like Windows 7.
Microsoft will stop mainstream support on January 12, 2015. But the company will keep providing extended support until January 14, 2020.

You and I will be kicking and screaming together, Minus.
Hope you enjoy the beach, Joan.

Thanks, Carole. I did make it, and took a walk along the water's edge. It felt great.

One of the most important--and most neglected--elements in the beginnings of the interior life is the ability to respond to reality, to see the value and the beauty in ordinary things, to come alive to the splendor that is all around us.

Mornin
My son left to go home to So. Carolina this morning. He reports back to teaching Tues. I am going to miss his calm, logical presence. He really is the calm in the middle of the storm in our family. He also reminds me so much of my Dad, who was my favorite person ever!

Life has no other discipline to impose, if we would but realize it, than to accept life unquestionably. Everything we shut our eyes to, everything we run away from, everything we deny, denigrate, or despise, serves to defeat us in the end.
What seems nasty, painful, evil, can become a source of beauty, joy and strength, if faced with an open mind. Every moment is a golden one for those who have the vision to recognize it as such.

So Carole....did you catch any fish and if so....what kind?
Anne, my grandsons in Tennessee started school this week. It seems that schools start earlier every year. I'm sure you'll miss your son!
Joan, there is something about being around water that is soothing and healing. If my feet would hold out, I could walk for miles on the water's edge.
Hope everyone is doing well. I need to get busy because I am hosting the ladies for Bunco tomorrow and have a few more things around the house that need to be finished before they arrive. The hostess doesn't have to provide the food...just the beverages and get the tables, etc. all ready so it's not really too big of a deal and it forces me to clean a few cubby-holes everytime that I host. Once I get this over with, my schedule will be much more leisurely. I think I'm ready for that.
Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the last days of summer.

Rita, we have not caught any fish that are keepers. But one of our neighbors who is a good fisherman gave us some beautiful crappie filets today.
DH's sister and her dh are on their way here to visit until Wed. They're driving their van/camper so will be sleeping in their own rv. We'll be cooking dinner tonight. Then we'll probably be eating out as we do some sightseeing in the area.
Hope everyone is having a good Sunday.

Lew and I spent an hour this evening picking the grapes on the outside of the fence, have one of those big Rubbermaid storage tubs 3/4 full. Will steam the juice out of them tomorrow, freeze the juice in qt bags, and pick the inside of the fence tomorrow evening.
Got a Facebook post from granddaughter Krysta yesterday, she's going to start the process of becoming our grandson Kristopher. We knew she'd been unhappy and troubled for a couple years, even spent time in the hospital last year with suicidal thoughts, but didn't know the reason. She'll be having a year of counseling before the doctor will start giving her hormones. I'm finding it hard to call her a him while she's still looking like a girl (she's 19).

Puffin, I know you will continue to provide love and support to your grandchild, no matter what. So many young people have no one in similar situations and many caught in gender dismorphia take their own lives.
I upgraded to Windows 10 last week after a recommendation from my computer guy. He loves it and prefers all his customers to switch so I did with no problems. Getting used to something new is always a little annoying, but it's like switching from Windows Explorer to Google Chrome to Foxfire...you get used to it.
Things are ok here. Mike did not do so well with chemo this past week but it was his own fault. Stubborn man! He should know better than decide to start a walking plan every morning. Sure enough, he did too much and then was to darn stubborn to cut back even half a block to allow his body to catch up with the new demand for oxygen and energy...both in short supply, especially during chemo week. On top of that, he scheduled a dentist appointment but never told his dentist about his medical condition. He had a tooth pulled. Because of the low platelets, he bled way too much. Had it all down the front of his shirt and went through wads of tissue and cotton for nearly 10 hours! He left the dentists office to go to the chemo appointment so he was a pathetic sight, I'm sure. By Friday he was better - no more bleeding, but still had one more day of chemo. He promised me he won't do anything stupid like that again. We are getting along fine and he seems to have made an effort to curb his criticism and mask his depression a bit. Of course as soon as things settle down for a couple of days, something always happens that deepens his depression. Our son totaled a car yesterday. Fortunately he wasn't hurt thanks to the airbag, but since he is bi-polar, he had a major manic episode the rest of the day, culminating in a panic attack.
As Roseann Roseannadanna used to say on Saturday Night Live - it's always something.

Puffin, my heart goes out. I'm sure its a bit jarring to realize ( however the information may come or when ) that a person we love and hold dear is ready to make known their needs as far as gender. Being in a family where there were 'gay' men, I learned a tolerance a long time ago for those who are "different" from me. I'm glad a couple or three times ( time goes so fast ) that we had the discussions here about Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner.
It is easy to look at these individuals as people who have a choice, but I don't --- maybe never quite have --- see that they do. I can't imagine all the problems that we run into in this world, and then having one special one, like gender identity, as well. To have to live much of your life feeling like you are in a 'wrong' body -- well, it is beyond me. Thoughts, love and prayers that things will go as well as possible and there will be a transition that will go as well as possible.
Sandra -- you are amazing. Glad you are here too. I'm sure your an inspiration, a big one. As for me, one of the biggest reasons that I remain here is that so many of you are an inspiration. Your drive and determination to make the best of everything helps me so much to get used to and over my rough spots.
AND you are so right as was Roseanne Roseannadanna. It is always something.
Blessings,
Jackie
