Oh, the troubles DeSanity will be causing the people around Disney in higher taxes. And should Disney ( who has already been invited ) decide to relocate life could get even uglier for Florida. I think DeSanity has a Putin complex going on. He has sped past his intelligence leaving it far behind because he is so sure he will be forgiven and WANTED -- especially since he wants to run for 24'. OK, I don't get the wedding picture. Apart from being inappropriate for kids that age, where do the Q and U come in? I know they can't say the word that immediately popped into everyone's minds.

The Wedding of Q and U is a commonly used children's book to help students remember that Q is always followed by U. It is simply a mnemonic device and not a commentary on marriage. Students think it is very funny and as a teacher, I thought it was very useful.
As far as re-enacting a wedding, well I am not crazy about that but let’s not read more into the book, from which this probably stemmed, than there actually is

Although this reenactment of the book would not be my choice, many classrooms have the students do “plays" as a fun way of learning often based on books. A technique that many teachers use to increase fluency and foster correct intonation is called Reader's Theater. Children read the text and “play" the characters. This is often very successful! Please don't read more into this than it really is. The book IS NOT about marriage of any type! It is simply a mnemonic device! Again, I wouldn’t have done a reenactment but I certainly can see how the book would be fun for reader’s theater. Child abuse? IMO, not even close.

I am 65 and just retired this past June. Pedagogy is always evolving, as all good practices should! I was never the type of teacher who insisted on doing things the way I did when I first got my teaching credential. Not too many professions benefit from stagnation.

They are re-enacting a very common children's book which is not really about marriage. The wedding is just a device to help students remember that U always follows Q. They stick together. Even if that weren’t the case, I think child abuse is a bit strong. No one is abused in the re-enactment of a book whose main purpose is to help younger students remember a spelling rule. The book is not about marriage!

Using little tricks to remember facts makes learning easier. I still remember my mom's tip when I was learning my Times Tables. "8 times 8 fell on the floor, picked it up was 64". And Readers Theater is so much fun. I had a group of 6th graders who begged to bring in props and costumes for Poe's Tell-Tale Heart. I supplied a round flashlight that pulsed a red light (for the heart), sat back and let them go. Hopefully nobody thought I was encouraging them to go out, murder people, and hide their hearts under the floor boards! 🤪

I take or find no offense about the wedding although I too think it is not something I might have done. Seems a bit dramatic since it is not truly about weddings at all. I did well with qu and others letters mainly because for some reason spelling came easy to me but I know its not the case with a lot of students. Back in the day -- math and English were my tough subjs. I struggled with them all the way through school. Then again, I could usually tell you what a paragraph was all about even if I didn't know the meaning of several of the words in it. I was I think something of an odd-ball that way. I was fantastic with Literature -- I just couldn't diagram the sentences there. So I'm pretty much okay with whatever method ( usual and accepted ) may be needed to help a student. Getting discouraged is hard on youngsters ( I know with my math for sure ) and I would really hate to think they would dread a subj. for that reason.
I do think the Reps. are not as into education as they would like you to believe. That is sad, but it will slow the youngsters from taking over while helping the Reps. keep a lot of people scared and upset and making poor decisions that ultimately may benefit the Reps. quite bit.

I remember little tips like I before E except after C, memorizing the multiplication tables, etc but just don’t recall aQU wedding. Maybe I’ve blocked out those long ago memories. 😉

The Wedding of Q and You is not a new book but was definitely published way after we were in school. I would hope that we would all encourage advancements in pedagogy and not compare it to our own school days. After all, the human body hasn’t changed but I sure wouldn’t want a doctor who was still practicing medicine like she did in 1977. Why should we expect education not to change?
