I say YES. YOU say NO....Numero Tre! Enjoy!

Fox News has no legitimate news reporters. They were pushed out for reporting facts about the election. I'm not sure why the FCC exists, except for licensing. It certainly isn't concerned about accuracy or facts being reported.

I am hopeful but not optimistic that telecasting the 1/6 hearings will be a game-changer. I keep hearing them compared to the Watergate hearings, but there are some huge differences.

First, back in 1974 there was no cable, satellite, nor internet (much less social media). There were only three networks: ABC, CBS, & NBC. FOX was still just a movie studio and Murdoch was not a major media player. (Even the now-trashy rag NYPost was resolutely Democratic and liberal back then when Dorothy Schiff owned it). There was talk radio, but it was mostly late at night and apolitical. And Donald Trump was basically still his dad's apprentice & rent collector (sort of like the late Robert Durst).

Second, the hearings were broadcast live...in daytime. (They were summarized during the evening newscasts--the first 15 minutes of even the 11pm news was national). I watched live towards the end, because I was home during the day, since summer law school classes were in the evening so that students could work summer jobs.

Third, except for the most hidebound right-wing GOP Senators, the hearings were bipartisan, chaired by Republican Howard Baker--overseen "behind the scenes" by a special prosecutor and a judge (Sirica). There was no tribalistic litmus test for either party--there were conservative Democrats and liberal Republicans. It was the GOP that finally urged Nixon's aides to convince him to resign before he could be impeached--because informal polling of both parties' caucuses showed there would be enough votes for conviction & removal. Back then, people's reasoning was "I believe in and stand for (A, B, & C), therefore, I am a (name of party) because they share my values. Today it's "I'm a (name of party); therefore I must believe in (X, Y, & Z)." Actually, that's truer for Republicans (who add "Q" to the foregoing alphabet soup).

The night Nixon resigned, a TV was wheeled into the lecture hall where our Ethics & Professional Responsibility course was being taught. (The prof, a conservative, had been Watergate defendant Egil Krogh's Ethics teacher at UW a decade earlier, a source of profound embarrassment & contrition). Afterward, class moved across the street to the Beef&Brew, where student & faculty, conservatives & liberals alike drank pitchers of beer & played pool. That would never happen today.

Again, the hypocrisy is astounding.

I volunteered to work at the polls for the election next Tuesday, so just got back from a training season. Since I have the time, and complain a lot, I figured maybe I better participate in some way. The only downside is that we are expected to show up at 6:30 am and stay until the polls close at 7 pm (I didn't know the hours when I agreed to the gig!).

Ruth, I've worked the polls numerous times, tho not recently, and tho it's a long day, you'll find it interesting and insightful.

I wish I got up earlier more often becauseI love the quiet start of the day where people are slowly getting a move on. I am at the hospital this morning getting scans and had an unusually early appt time. It meant waking at 5 and leaving at 5:30 for the hour drive to Pittsburgh. I got everything ready last night. Now it's nice and quiet here while people get coffee at the kiosk and the custodians are emptying trash. Less hustle and bustle. When I'm done I'll go to lunch with my son who lives ten minutes away.

I agree Divine. There is something about getting up early. It is really nice if you can just do it w/o an appt. That way you can sit on the deck waiting for the sun and the morning birds conversing. Even the slightly crispy air has a bit of excitement it will share. I slept late this morning and missed it all but the past couple of days I have had to be up early for ' work ' and so wanted to sleep in. Trouble is -- if I go too long Dh comes in and wakes me. BOO.

I've been thinking about tonight and hope I'm not disappointed. I am also aware that I have been and will be exposed to a whole lot of negativities from media and Reps. It though is times such as these that I'm thrilled that I chose to be a Democrat ( for the most part ) early on. I will vote for ANYONE who offers great solutions to our world problems, but it has un-fortunately been years sine I've even questioned a Reps. having a good solution to anything. I'm disgusted with media. Back when Watergate took place we had REAL news persons who dug for information -- and they were not in a hurry and it is sad on the one hand that wi-fi and internet have made finding out things instantaneous.

On the way here I read a piece where the new man ( Licht ? ) at CNN is wanting to have an operation that corresponds more to the center. So, his solution -- push out Jim Accosta What a mistake that would be. There isn't much of a center anymore and that would likely be 'polital' suicide for CNN who has been in a tailspin already. What Mr. Licht sees as saving grace is a disaster that will do nothing for the tailspin that is going on there. Some people do seemed destined to be on another planet at times.

There's lots of interesting local news coming out of DC on the eve of the January 6 reportin, from our football team. The Commanders defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio said

"I can look at images on the TV [of the Floyd protests] — people's livelihoods are being destroyed. Businesses are being burned down. No problem," he said Wednesday. "And then we have a dust-up at the Capitol, nothing burned down, and we're going to make that a major deal. I just think it's kind of two standards, and if we apply the same standard and we're going to be reasonable with each other, let's have a discussion."

The Commanders, formerly the Washington Redskins, the The Washington Football Team have been mired in a scandal where the owner permitted misogynistic behavior against female employees that has him on the bench and his wife running the team. And now a racist coach among the ranks.

It's starting to hit the fan at work. I may have documentable retaliatory actions from my franchise owner against me and one of my out-spoken coworkers. As a lead therapist and Training manager, I am supposed to have access to our online training system to sign off of completion tasks. But when I went in today to investigate an issue for one of my coworkers, I didn't have the access any more. I was demoted from "Unit Manager" to "Massage Therapist" without any discussion of the change with me. Our studio GM said that the owner reassigned everyone to regular MT level. But, curiously, our new lead MT does suddenly have Unit Mgr access - and no one told her about the change either.

She's keeping quiet about it until we know more about the owners' intentions. If they think they can get our 3rd lead on their side just by offering her a union-buster promotion, they're in for a big surprise. She's even more down-with-the-man than we are!

Gosh, mirianda, I am sorry you are having to go through this.

How FOX can call itself 'News' is pretty interesting. When you can't even allow your audience to watch actual news......but feel the need to filter it for them. Pathetic.

Here's hoping we say BYE FELICIA to a whole lot of reps. So sick of those people, period. I watched rapturously the program last night. I was a bit feareful ( after having heard so many 'leaks' ) that I wouldn't be impressed, but thankfully I was wrong. I thought it was in some ways a really stunning presentation. OVERALL opinion -- for me it was finally at last hearing from a definite entity that I could trust for what really took place. Up to now feeling that so much media bias and reporting may not be totally honest due to ratings etc. I had many sensations of doubt. Most of that is completely removed now. ALSO, that a group ( sounds like Proud Boys ) were dispatched early on -- by 10:30 a.m. to go to the Capital -- long before Loon Trump gave his "rallying" speech. He, as well as his closest people/comrades in the WH, knew what was coming and the Proud Boys prepared the way for the mob who were meant to not only cause harm, but to keep chaos at a high level so that Mike Pence could not do his job.

The Loon really did NOT care what happened to Pence and he knew when he went to the Elipse that Pence was not going to help him. So, he meant every word he said in his speech.

I am once again thrilled that Pence did not take the opportunity to leave when the Secret Service asked to put him into a car to be taken off the Capital grounds that afternoon. Reading on the way here, last night was described as not for people like us -- who have known all along. We are just finding the actual cement -- but is for the ones in the middle. This will likely settle those who have questioned all along or who like me, just aren't sure due to media bias. I think there are plenty of people who may get their minds settled now. Chairman Thompson and Vice Chair Cheney were, calm, cogent and highly competent. Sentiment about the Loon and Reps. has not been positive ( save but to themselves ) for some time and this will not only give out furthur and irrefutable info, but will reawaken memories and feelings of all the pain, distress and death sufferred that day.

I will be glued to my chair again for the next one, I'm sure.

Just a headline grabber if ever there were one and were I a Reps. I would be doing an inner melt-down like no other. This despite the fact that the Reps. have been on the wrong track for so long that they seem as if they have no REAL idea how to get back. HINT: Truth sets you free.
