Jackie, I love your quote from "Walking is Medicine" So grateful for Tippy. My weight remains stable at 162. The stress on my knee from the steps and moving stuff and the work of settling in caused a lot of pain, but has finally healed. Glad it was only a stuck gas bubble.

Sorry I haven't posted. Difficult to get back in the habit, even If I am spending a lot of time at my computer.

I got a pair of tall aluminum thermos (TAL brand from Wal-Mart). One is for coffee and the other is for tea. I drink one of decaf green, and one of chamomile. About half of one of coffee when I get up in the morning. With a routine of this, I am sleeping much better.

So far Tippy has used his walk, sofa, birds, and pets. He has asked for new buttons saying cold and treat. This apartment ranges between 67.5 deg heat turns on, and 74.2 heat turns off.

Jackie, I’m so glad you were home for Christmas. And Cindy, I hope your partner gets well soon. It’s good to hear all had a nice holiday. My best gift is just being here to celebrate.

Gray, foggy and rainy here for the past few days. We had a nice relaxing Christmas with our son who was home for both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Fortunately, the restaurant he works at was closed both days. It was wonderful to spend time with him.

I just got home from volunteering at the food pantry. Last week was super busy but today was quite slow and we had a ton of food. A couple of local grocery stores donate their baked goods to us and apparently they were overstocked on pies, cupcakes, cookie and donuts as we received a lot of product. Usually baked goods are one of the most requested items and we are limited to handing out only 1 item per family. Today we were able to hand out multiples of everything. Hopefully folks will share with their family and friends if it’s more than they can consume.

We are heading to central Wisconsin tomorrow to celebrate with my husbands siblings and their families. From there we will drive to Minneapolis for the Packers-Vikings game on Sunday.

    Wishing everyone a good weekend.

Have I asked this before, Harley? Where in Wisconsin?

Chris - we now live in the Chicago suburbs. I grew up in Milwaukee and DH grew up near Green Bay. We met in college at Stevens Point. Our families are scattered all over Wisconsin.

Cindy - you amaze me at all the fun and interesting things to do and see. My sister is like that but we never got in the habit when Ken was practicing medicine and only did it early in our retirement. Hope your partner is better. We've had both Covid and flu around here.

Jackie, glad they figured out your stomach problems even if it was a very long day.

Harley, Ken and I met at Beloit College. We both grew up in Chicago burbs.

Had a few friends in Christmas Eve (I froze the left-over sweets) and went to our Saturday dinner friends' Christmas Day. Larry's children and grandchildren were here so it was a hectic meal.

Tomorrow and Sunday I am working at the "Silver Belles" golf tournament held at our club. Young women 14-24 are eligible and I am told they are fantastic golfers, often traveling significant distances to compete.

Welcome back, Chris. Please send my greetings to Karen. Now what about MM, Keywestern and Sandy??

I will get here tomorrow. Meant to get back to my computer this morning and never made it. Had banking, store, Goodwill and lots of pet care. I'll see you all tomorrow.

Harley, I live in Tomah. My sister and family are in Beaver Dam. Her son and granddaughter live in the megalopolis on the east coast of the state.

Good morning. There is some muted sun outdoors which I'm hoping changes to be much fuller. It is 52 degrees. Very odd feeling to have it this warm right after X-mas. Once again, a rainy and VERY un-snowy holiday. The past several have been like this and at my age I can't say I'm un-happy about it.

I so enjoyed all the entries of the past couple of days.

I have a good friend from Wisconsin - West Bend to be exact. She and I were in the service together. She is the only one though. I was friendly with all, but for some reason only the friendship with her stuck.

Taco, I think MM has quit posting on BC. Org completely. I don't think she is interested anymore in being a part of the blog. Karen uses another part of the blog and Keywest generally posts a lot less than the rest of us here. Sandy is the one we are all holding our breath about I think. She seemed to have such a busy and sometimes complicated life and then had to move out of her house for repairs after the fire. Also after having just adopted two cats.

I still can't imagine the struggles so many here end up having to deal with after having the big C diagnosis and treatment. Thankfully, most things come a little at a time and we have a chance to normalize for a bit.

I hope you all will have a great Saturday and nice week-end.

We’re running with guests, family visiting. It will be quiet when they’re gone. They’re at the resort, returning sometime today - later I think, maybe after sunset.

Tomorrow morning I’m picking up neighbors at the airport, around 9:30 or so. They’ll call after they grab their luggage. And in the afternoon we have tickets for Cirque Holidaze, that’s at 1.

I’m glad everyone seems to be doing ok - those of us that post, and hope all others are getting thru the holidays healthy.

" Karen uses another part of the blog" Of course that is where she is! Thank you for the cue. Reminds me of something. No, I don't post there. We rarely interact at Facebook.

  • Karen posts occasionally on the Drinking forum, which is mostly light-hearted. She just left on a trip to Canada to visit a daughter who has a young child. Minus and Wren also post there.

I'm sorry MM has departed for good. I hope she's doing well.

She posts more frequently in another. I haven't drunk (what a pun!!) in ages, and my meds would make it a disaster.

Harly, you should stop in some time!! I warn you; I live a very simple life. No car, only an electric trike.

Woke up to more rain this morning. It's no longer raining but is mighty cloudy. May be happening on and off for the next few days. I will not be delighted but have to admit the temps. are not bad. It is 50 right now. I am having a lazy day. Doing mainly what pops up in front of me. That happens often for me when it is 'gloomy' outside.

Chris, I think simple lives can be energizing in many ways. When I had less places to go along with an un-cluttered (only a bit more than needed) house, I could clean the whole house in an hour. I'd like to know how we acquired so much , and worst of all so much of it not really needed. I have been working at it but a slow process for far. As to cars - we can't do much w/o since we are two miles from town and slightly farther from the shopping areas in town but save for running out of something I don't need to go into town that much.

I don't drink anymore either. A couple of periods, but not a lot of longevity either time. I have no objections but guess it just doesn't add much of anything.

Cindy, I keep scrolling up and looking at your beautiful sun. Making my gloomy day a bit brighter.

Hope you all have a great day.

I had a long post going but texts were coming in, and you know where this leads to - when I got back in, it was gone.

On Saturday it started raining around 7 PM, and didn’t stop until about 9 AM Sunday. Puddles in the garden, dead palm fronds all over - I must have slept through a lot of wind.

My neighbors didn’t make the 5 AM flight, but did get the 6 AM flight arriving here at 10. I left home about 10:30 but I forget they need assistance getting off the plane. It was after 11 when I got them in my car and luggage stuffed in the trunk. back home in time to grab a bite to eat and leave for the Cirque show.

    IMG_8022.jpeg

It was entertaining and a nice way to spend the afternoon. Only complaint is those folks that show up late and block the show as they situate themselves.

My niece and grandniece are leaving on 1/1, so today I cooked a big turkey dinner. So much work! But it tasted delicious.

As I was cooking the house felt real hot, I blamed the turkey. I dropped the AC down 2 degrees but didn’t notice a difference. Again thinking it was just me. I had all the ceiling fans going and still warm. I looked at the thermostat and it was getting warmer. So I went out to the HVAC and pulled the drain pipes off the house, and water poured out. The drain pipes were clogged. Florida heat & humidity allowed slime/mold/growth to clog it. I had to scrub it out, run hot water through, even used an old toothbrush. The pipes are in the soaker sink in the laundry room full of vinegar. I’ll hook them back up tomorrow.

It’s late and I’m tired. My niece is running in a race on the beach tomorrow. She’s getting up before 6 AM. Hoping you all had a good weekend.

Ah, more rain, but we are getting exactly what the weatherman said. Sometimes he is right. Grrr on the gray. Cindy sounded like you had quite a day. The Cirque looked to be entertaining though and offering some positive relaxation.

I can relate though. Yesterday was difficult for me as well. Cloudy and gray outside never stimulates me at all but I had things to do. I did morning chores, got breakfast done and tried a small nap, but too many thoughts of what needing doing. So, got up and over to my computer. Decided to go over my checkbook and balance. Well, couldn't get into my account. I balance on line.

Ever since Dh decided to open an account at my bank we have had this trouble. So, I couldn't get signed in. I was in the middle of a phone call to the bank to try and fix that when my son in law came in. Seems someone had hit our mailbox (again) out on the main road and unless we did something we would not get our mail. But, I had to abandon the call to the bank and call the post office to alert them to 'hoping' to resolve issues if possible before what we knew would be late delivery yesterday. ( Mondays are typically after dark).

Decided before calling bank again that I would call Tony at H&H Computers (our go-to guy) and ask if we could get our computers to quit reading each other here. Yes — but sort of difficult. Apparently, we ended up with the same Microsoft password. Quick fix, change bank password (one of us) and then sign in on different browser.

So Dh took his computer to Tony. He didn't know how to install another browser and I didn't have a lot of time. In the meantime, I called the bank again and was able to get myself a new password and was then able to use my log-in-page that I set up long ago to open directly from my favorites. Haven't tried it this a.m. so hope we are still on a working level.

Then I called the little gal who hit the mailbox. Turns out she lives on the lane next to us. She called her Dad at work when she got home (from the accident) and asked what to do. He told her to write her name and number on a sticky note and attach it to the mailbox on the ground now. Told her (oh she still sounded horrified at what happened although she was alright) that we would go out to the road assess the damages and decide what needed doing and then let her know.

Turned out that the actual mailbox itself (apparently, they are made in a way that the pieces of it separate on an impact) was okay and just the structures holding it up were iffy in a couple of places. SIL said with some minor adjustments and tinkering's he could get it back together. This time he put it on a metal post that he cemented into the ground.

Yesterday evening the teen's Dad called. Very apologetic for the mishap and said his daughter was feeling better (sometimes parents are a big comfort) but still shaken that it happened at all Said she had just looked down for a second — long enough for the car to drift a bit — and there was our mailbox on the ground — blink of an eye. We discussed the situation which I said was not so dire after all. New mailbox — like the old one — online was $51.00 on sale. I told "Dad" no need for a new box so we could negotiate something. He was good with it. He felt like daughter needed to pay 'something' mainly for the lesson. We settled on a good figure. Enough to teach but not enough to hurt too much. I understand the upset. Teems (as I was back in my day) feel invincible — like nothing will ever happen like that. Told Dad — that is what spurs our growth really — the feeling that we CAN do. It's a shock to the system if we find out sometimes we can't.

So she will come over later and bring the money and I'm sure apologize which we will gladly accept and let her know how much we appreciate her attention to handling the situation in such an adult manner.

I finally got my banking done although I will have to pay my bills today — just didn't have time to get to it yesterday although I did get to do some desk cleaning while I waited for calls and information and details from SIL — so I was able to do some decent work in-between hanging on the phone in a long afternoon.

So that's my story and I have to stick to it.

Hope you all have a good day on this last day of the year. Hopefully, the day will be un-eventful for the most part. Enjoy.

  • Betrayal, your bitter feelings about 2024 are very understandable. I would feel the same. Fingers crossed that the MRI, when it happens, will not be more bad news. I hope you will let us know because we're concerned.

Jackie, your neighbors seem like good people, not the hit-and-run types. I wonder if the girl was on her phone, texting.

Betrayal - I’m so sorry to hear you are back on the hamster wheel of uncertainty. It seems like you can’t catch a break from medical issues. Keeping you in my prayers. (((Hugs)))

Cindy - Cirque looks to be good entertainment for the holidays. I admire you for finding so many fun things to do whether you are in NY or FL. I hope your partner is feeling better.

Jackie - you had a busy day yesterday. Sounds like the teen and her dad are responsible people. It was a good teaching moment for the teen to learn how to handle a mishap.

We had good driving weather for our weekend trip to Minneapolis. The Packers lost the game but we still had an enjoyable time. Spent a good part of Saturday with DH’s family in Wisconsin before heading further north for the game on Sunday.

It’s a gloomy day here and we will be staying in tonight as we usually do on NYE.

    Happy New Year to all!

Betrayal count me in on being highly disappointed with you that medical issues are casting their clouds once again. I didn't notice apparently that this didn't open like usual, so I had to go back and find your post. I sure hope that once 'this' issue is resolved that you will indeed begin to have an easier time of things.

I'm blaming a lot of mine on old age. I went for so long with nothing of any real consequence and now it seems I have something far too often.

Big laugh over kissing 2024 goodbye. I'll be glad too. We stop going out some time ago. Likely a good thing. Not too bad in a small town such as ours, as traffic was never hard to deal with even after a few hours of New Years gaiety— but really, its much easier to greet the new yr w/o some of those leftover gaiety mistakes of overdoing it, if even slightly. Also, I now routinely fall asleep before the big moments arrive and I don't mind a bit. There are some comforts to an older age after all.

Anyway, I hope all enjoy no matter what you do. Happy New Year to all.

Betrayal and Jackie, and all of us, may we have a healthy and happy New Year. I got up at 5:45 this morning. Went to bed at the usual time. Went to the grocery store yesterday and got plenty of snacks for the day.

It depends on us. . . Another year lies before us like an unwritten page, an unspent coin, an unwalked road.  How the pages will read, what treasures will be gained in exchange for time, or what we find along the way, will largely depend on us.

I'm all in with your sentiment Chris. Like you as well I trotted off to bed at my usual time. It has been a long time since I 'needed' that inner hum of excitement coming on New Year's Eve. Can't say I'm missing anything, and it is far more important to hope for wellness, and joy and positive days for our friends and loved ones.

I got up at pretty much the usual time this morning as well. It's 33 this morning and by the weekend we are, so they say going to have five or 6 inches of snow. Our rainy wet weather was keeping it rather warm but seems it's over for now and we may get 'real' winter. We'll see.

Nothing special on for today — I think we'll mainly just be sort of lazy and only do what we feel like.

Hoping you all have a really good first day of 2025.
