In a time when many of America’s biggest law firms are bending the knee to Donald Trump, Abbe Lowell is standing up and fighting back. Lowell, who has represented powerful political figures from both sides of the aisle-including New York Attorney General Letitia James, Jared Kushner, Ivanka Trump, and, most recently, served as lead counsel for Hunter Biden in a trial widely viewed as a politically motivated attempt to damage President Biden-has become a prominent defender against what he sees as partisan legal attacks.
Lowell has now launched his own firm, Lowell & Associates, dedicated to defending officials and organizations who are unjustly targeted by Trump’s legal maneuvers. He’s building a team of attorneys who left major firms in protest after their employers capitulated to political pressure, determined to uphold the rule of law instead of caving to intimidation.
This is exactly the kind of courage the legal profession needs right now. As too many firms choose self-preservation over principle, Lowell and his team remind us that defending democracy and justice is more important than protecting business interests or currying favor with those in power.
Sorrowful to bow down now, because later you may not be able to get back up. But you will have kissed the rear of one of the most loathsome creatures alive on this earth.
