Can we have a forum for "older" people with bc?

He, Minus, remember "Brylcreem—a little dab'll do ya" or "greasy kid stuff?" Then there was the ubiquitous brilliantine. And they say that these days, WE use too many products in our hair!
Reader, so sad about your kitty—our Happy developed IBD at 13 and by nearly 16 it had become lymphoma. We kept wrestling with when is "too sick to enjoy life?" especially when one of the hallmarks of feline IBD is insatiable appetite followed by intolerance of such a large amount of food, culminating in…uh, reverse peristalsis, and several "accidents." We knew it was time when he wasn't interested in being petted and just stared at the wall (sometimes head pressed against the wall). In the time we had left with him, we gave him as much love as he could handle. I read once that it always seems that with dying pets, it's better to let them go a week too early than to wait a day too late to alleviate suffering. When Heidi's squamous cell jaw tumor became evident (urgent-care vet noticed it) and the ab & thoracic mets showed up on x-ray, we switched her upcoming monthly checkup appointment a few days later to one for gentle euthanasia—we didn't want her to suffer one day longer. Still, the morning of the appointment she managed to crawl upstairs and into my bed for one final cuddle—she knew something was up.
Bed was delivered yesterday and I was surprised to find it had night-lights under the frame (like my car when I approach it) and a dual USB port on each side, so no need to use power strips and possibly overload circuits. (Even has "Magic Fingers:" no quarters required).Today the first set of split-king sheets arrived from Macy's (California Club, cotton sateen from India), but when I unboxed them they smelled faintly fecal. I've never had to wash brand new sheets before using them, so who knows? At any rate, the last thing I want touching my face is a pillowcase bearing the faint smell of a dog-kennel.
Had to juggle more appointments today—moving up cleaning lady to tomorrow, and have to be at the house all day. It stormed all day today, so doing anything outdoors was off the table. Wondered why the traffic was crawling up Lake Shore Drive all the way out to the streets at the northern terminus—till we got a block from the house to find the house across the alley had a huge linden tree fall on & crush the owner's car (fortunately, nobody was at home or in the car). Very fast-moving storm, winds capricous. No damage chez nous, whew!

The truth is that our finest moments are most likely to occur when we are feeling deeply uncomfortable, unhappy, or unfulfilled. For it is only in such moments, propelled by our discomfort, that we are likely to step out of our ruts and start searching for different ways or truer answers.

Yes, Sandy. I pick up his poop usually daily. When not disturbed, it does not have much of a scent, so I am very gentle with it. He encourages me to get out and walk, which is what I needed to do in order to lose weight.

The view from the camp deck. Weather is hot & humid, and I unfortunately won’t be in the lake. I have my bathing suit and could sit on the dock … with maybe a bucket of water & ice. Haha!
We’re going to a mansion for a tour and walk in the gardens. Hope for some good pictures.
Jackie, we won’t be heading to Florida until November.

Hi, Ladies. I am so behind, again. May cholesterol is normal. Finally!
harley, love the Harley. I use to ride on the back with dh. That was many years ago, but it was a lot of fun.
canary, beautiful fruitcake!!
Chris, I like your haircut. I have been growing the Pixie out, but it sure takes a lot of work to style my longer hair
hello to all that I missed - Cindy, Sandy, Jackie, Carole, betrayal, Christine, reader

Ah Cindy — just a bit of vacation. Sad about the swimming as the water looks so mightily inviting and then you can't get in the lake. Hopefully, though if close with iced drinks and a whiff of a breeze.
We finished up today fairly quickly. My pacemaker was fine and I didn't need any adjustment to it at all. So, will be a yr. for the next check on it. I also made an eye appt. but likely will have to do some finagling at the DMV or accept having night driving curtailed. No one has said but I have a feeling my vision issues for the most part are due to a cataract — and as things stand it is not likely I could get it dealt with before my birthday. The lady at the vision dept. told me that they wait till a month after cataract surgery to retest you — for glasses so since I can't even get the first eye appt. till August and my birthday is in Sept. I couldn't possibly make it thru a surgery and the month wait after. Guess I might as well take the stipulation of no night driving anyway and just move on.
I can't tell you when the last time was that I drove at night for sure. It usually has only happened on rare occasion when we go to the store late afternoon and dawdle around after getting there. Still I think there's a Murphy's Law thing that says something about you will only need to drive after dark or even want to after you have been given a restriction on it by the DMV. Well, I likely will go and ask them about it and see what they have to say.
We were both a bit exhausted ty the time we got home as neither of us slept well so needed a nap. This happens to me almost always when I HAVE to do something the next day requiring that I be on time. Today was 10 a.m. It started to rain when we were ready to leave Marion (those few big drops that begin the rainfall) and were 30 feet from the car. Stayed dry, but boy could you feel the big drops when one landed on you. It poured a little just as we were halfway through town ( Marion) and by the time we were leaving it has lessened to intermittent wiper use. We then outran any rain and that was it all the way home.
The rest of the month is clear — no long drives or even Doc appts. Despite having to have a couple of appts. and a couple more coming up — it has been pretty good to have little if any medical appts. at all. It sure seemed earlier like I was seeing some medical personnel all the time almost. Great to have a nice break. I think I was caught in some cycles where you have to be tested a lot —- for 5 yrs.
Looking like we are about to get the downpours that we had in Marion here now. It is quite dark out — so getting ready for another good dousing. Had one yesterday a little later than it seems this will be. Hope you have all have a really good day.

Jackie - glad to hear today’s appointment for the pacemaker went well. Sorry to hear about the cataract affecting your vision. If the DMV places a restriction on night driving, do you think you could ask to be retested in 6-12 months once surgery is complete?
Reader - sorry to hear about your kitty. Pets are family members and hurts to lose them.
Cindy - wow! That lake looks so good. I’m sorry you can’t be in the water but I could happily sit there all day.
Petite - nice to hear your cholesterol is normal (I’m envious).
Went to the DMV to renew my drivers license and take the vision test. It is now required to make an appointment and I was in and out in 25 minutes.
Then went to the gym and got in a good workout. So now that I feel good about myself I will head to the GYN Onc tomorrow for an appointment to get yelled at for all the things I should be doing that I’m not doing (ie. I need a referral to a GI for follow up on a pancreatic cyst that was an incidental finding on a CT last year). The cyst was stable on the most recent CT so there should be nothing of concern. Next week I have an appointment with the MO and I expect I will be discharged from her care since my blood counts have returned to normal. Then I am hoping no more appointments for awhile.5 -
Jackie, I was able to get a fast cataract appointment when I messaged my eye doctor and told him my situation (I was moving.) He promptly obliged me and moved me to the front of the cue. He also did a new procedure where they do both eyes at once. It was easy and it did a good job. Just a suggestion. He encouraged me to advocate for myself saying doctors should be here to serve the patients. Sometimes there are good doctors out there! However, my DH does all the driving now. I was able to get my license renewed when I moved and changed states so I can drive if I need to, but my DH prefers to do it. He doesn't want me out there alone since I am also on oxygen. That's okay with me. It was a little tough at first feeling like I lost some of my independence, but I am now okay with it.

Thanks ladies for the encouragements on vision testing etc. I hope that maybe I can arrange for a retest for after the cataract is taken care of. I have forgotten where you are from Christine, but wow — being able to do both eyes at once would be great. Not sure how they will do mine. I have a lazy eye that has bad vision just due to that — otherwise it is a healthy eye. I'm hoping they will be willing to deal with a cataract on that side since I could in time possibly be able to deal with life if need be. Also even though I cannot depend on that eye for a whole lot it does give me balance and some detail while my good eye is closed. So, I would like to be able to keep what vision I have there even if it has a lot of limits.
Glad you got your license back — mainly because of the odd unforeseen that could happen. Since you are prepared so to speak — hopefully it won't happen. Wouldn't hurt if you drove to the store now and then just to keep your sense of agility about it. Wonderful though that your Dh feels concern and wants to know you are safe.
We got our storms again this late afternoon. Sure is happening a lot this yr. Even with all the heat we have had the storms have come at the right time and the lawns and trees are still as green as can be. One yr. it got over a hundred way early in March and never got below 100 until in September that yr. By the end of June the lawns looked they did at the end of summer. I so hoped it would not be the case this yr. and it seems like we made it just fine.

Today we had some rain showers but not enough to keep us from getting out for the afternoon.
We went to the Sonnenberg gardens & mansion State Historical Park. First stop was the mansion itself, dropped off via tram ( 6 person golf cart). Which saved me, I can’t even guess how many steps. It’s on a 50 acre site. You can tour the first 2 floors of the 40 room mansion. I loved the architecture, the antique furniture, the tile work throughout, and the many bathrooms - one bedroom with 2 twin beds had 2 full baths. Lots of fireplaces too.
It was a beauty! Granted, after the walking and stair climbing of the mansion, my foot was pretty much done. So I sacrificed myself to sit in a rocker on the back porch. At one pint I went down to the white & blue garden, thinking I’d catch up with my party and changed my mind fast, returning to the rocker.
The next photo is a panoramic shot, so I’m not sure how it will transfer here but figured I’d try.
It worked.
When we get back here I’d love to go again to walk the many gardens I didn’t get to today. The lady of the house was to be on the maiden voyage of the Titanic out of England. But there was a tulip display in Holland, and she chose to stay for the tulips. Good choice.
Lower temperatures for tomorrow, our last full day here. Humidity dropping too. I may get into town for some gifts for family. Should be a relaxing day.Enjoy your Friday too!

Jackie, the improvement to my night vision within a week after my first cataract surgery was dramatic! The week Three months earlier I had to drive home from Madison, WI late at night after a gig; and the onramps to the Beltline and then to I-39/90 were unlit (still are). Had to use my brights all the way, and it was still scary. A week after the surgery (when I stopped seeing "starbursts" around lights), I made the trip again and it was as if I were driving on a completely different road!
Another set of sheets arrived today—this time different mfr., from Bed, Bath & Beyond. But same stink! Googled it and found out that it is definitely a "thing." Not just the chemicals used in dyes and sizing, but also the heavy zippered plastic bags in which the sets are packed. (A different set from Macy's, in conventional plastic wrap, was odorless). California Design Den's website explains that it is absolutely necessary to wash new sheets, for that reason; and a number of other sites agree. Those sites (including several Reddits) mention the odor as resembling stale vomit. So since I have a Rinse subscription and several prepaid bags remaining this cycle, I bundled up the two sets (Macy's & B,B&B—teal & sage) and had them picked up tonight for return tomorrow. They will let me know if the sheets require a second wash. Meanwhile, a third set, white, is in its packaging and I will wash it once my washer & dryer are redelivered & installed tomorrow. (I normally don't use scented laundry products, but I bought a bottle of Downy Rinse & Refresh and I intend to add it to the washer).
And my dinette set was delivered today. The upholstery does have a faint odor of grassy linen cloth mixed with the stain-repellent treatment, so I will Febreze it and see what happens. Tomorrow will be an ordeal, and I doubt I'll be home for dinner. (All the two-piece china cabinets & bookcase need reassembly, the TVs need to be placed on their stands, the stove & dryer connected to gas (and the gas to the grill turned back on), and the refrigerators connected not just to power but the one in the kitchen connected to the water line. Have to wait 36 hrs to see if they work, before we can start moving food back into the freezer compartments. Of course, not looking forward to mountains of boxes to unpack and sort out. Ugh. Not just that, but a couple of closets that had been clean after the fire but before the demo & rebuild are now full of paint & drywall schmutz—and I can't donate the clothes in there until they've been dry-cleaned. And the earliest visiting vet appointment I could get is Aug. 7. Therefore, I had to pay August's rent, and to be on the safe side will give notice that we won't be fully out of Lincolnwood till 8/31, since there will be much to do here to bring the place back to the condition in which we found it. (I fear that our $3500 pet deposit may not cover having to clean the felt on the pool table and some of the scratching on an edge or two of the sectional sofa that the cats managed to push aside the throws and standing cardboard scratchers covering them).

I seldom drive at night out of choice. I'm ok if I'm driving a familiar route. DH no longer likes driving at night so we're stay-at-homers most of the time after dark. Of course, it gets dark late here in MN during the summer.
Good news on the cholesterol, Petite. I'm also growing my hair into a longer style. Drying it takes longer since I have thick hair. DH seldom says anything about my hair and he recently commented that my hair looked nice. If I end up not liking the longer style, it's easy enough to go back to a shorter cut.
It's gloomy looking outside this morning. We're supposed to get rain in the afternoon. I'll probably go to the gym while dh is playing golf. We're recording the British Open golf for later viewing. I always enjoy seeing the links golf courses in the British Isles.
DH has the same condition as Trump with the swelling in the ankles. He wears compression socks.
Happy Friday to all.

Sandy work, work, and more work. I would be super training myself to think of the end result a whole lot more than the daily grind, knowing how difficult it can be. I'm buoyed by the thought of having night vision back so will continue on with trying to get some sort of adjustment out of DMV about re-doing my testing after the cataract is handled. Really it should focus more I'd think on the testing right at the facility.
I always tend to wash anything I bring into the house. When I was young and foolish I didn't follow that rule but somewhere along the way (or perhaps some reading from a trusted source ) or possibly even my Mom I got into better habits. I'm glad now because my house and my belongings all smell more like me pretty much from the get-go then. I think my daughter though often skips that step though it has not seemed to have had any affect on her.
I use to use huge bottles of Downey but stopped doing it. Mainly because I used it way too often on my towels and it took a couple of years to restore an ability for the towel to actually dry anyone well after a shower, etc. I've kept on NOT using it because it saves me money, along with towels that won't dry a dish or a body. Why I never questioned ( till I was old ) that something I purposely did was causing towels to be nearly useless, who knows. I do believe in that case as well I may have run across reading that indicated it. Guess you really are NEVER too old as long as you keep reading.
Not much to do today I don't think. Cloudy outside and possible rain. In fact, possible for the next few days. It has continued on it seems being a much wetter yr. than is our usual — especially this late into the season. While I've never been much of a 'grey' fan, it is keeping our lawn green and has offered the chance of cooler temps. Some humidity, but not on the level we have had in yrs. past. Overall it has been more tolerable.
As I'm here a bit earlier, know that I'm thinking of each of you. Hope you all have a great day. Speaking of that Cindy — those grounds in the park as well as the mansion. You may have been pretty wearing on your foot ( glad you were doing sitting on the portico at the end) but how beautiful. My imagination would have been soaring.

I have read that any fabric item you buy needs to be washed before it is used, for multiple reasons. I do not buy scented products. My fabric sheets are lightly scented. If I need to get rid of any more persistent odors, I use white vinegar. Since my laundry soap is nearly weightless, I carry the jug of vinegar in the basket.
I have my bike and haven't driven for years, but still have my license. If I choose to have a car sometime in the future, I hope to cut the insurance cost by taking some driver's training. My cataracts are developing very slowly.
In the summer, I hate to have my hair, all sweaty, laying on my neck, but prefer to have it longer in the winter. A year ago, I started using Fructis for fine and fragile hair, and my hair is now thicker than before BC! At least I think so.
I have now exceeded my daily limit for keyboarding. See ya' on the flipside!

I don't use any type of softener with laundry including dryer sheets because of the build-up they cause in fabric and the machines. I have heard that using white vinegar to remove residual softener works but have never needed to try it. I don't always wash something new before use but do with new bedding. So far no skin issues with wearing new items.
I have had cataract surgery on both eyes with IOL insertion for distance, so I only need reading glasses which I buy OTC at Costco. I had the left one done first and about 10 years later had the right one done. No issues with night driving at all. The newer headlights can be a momentary issue but I have learned how to deal with them.
I need to schedule a car inspection and oil change. Because I don't put more than 5,000 miles on my car/year I get exempted from emissions testing. Currently my car is 7 years old and I have less than 10,000 miles on it. I should make 10,000 miles some time next week going to or coming from PT.
Went to dry cleaners to get 2 gowns and 1 pair of pants hemmed. The gown hems need to be raised 2 inches and the pants, even though they are "short" women's, need about inches cut off. They are polyester knits and I won't try to hem them, too much work. She does nice work but is a tad expensive.
DH installed last post on the juniper bed today. We'll work on cleaning out the weeds, consider mulching it and then install the green fencing. Once that is done we can free the junipers from their chicken wire cages. It will be nice to see them spread out. They have really filled out since we had them planted in 2020 or 2021. They were installed to give us privacy from our neighbors and to block headlights from the road. Best decision I ever made to have them installed after we lost the big trees. The chicken wire will be recycled to fence in the azalea bed.
Illinoiskady, love the fence your SIL designed and installed. Will you need to put any wire fencing inside to keep Lil' Red from escaping via the gaps? Great reuse of pallets.
cindyny, envy you being at that mansion and the lake. I was sad that I was unable to walk the gardens at Versailles when we were in France. My left knee pre-surgery wasn't up to doing it or climbing the 375 steps to Mont St. Michel. Still not sure , post-op that I would be able to do the latter but could do the gardens now. Like me, it means you have to revisit so you can take in the sights. I love to wander through mansions and palaces to see the decor.
carole, sounds like your weather has been good lately. Hope DH has a good round of golf.
petite1, great news on cholesterol results. Are you on a statin?
Sandy, one step at a time, one box at a time, and one day at a time. Set reasonable goals and if your boxes are labeled, can you make a decision not to open and just to donate as is? It looks so overwhelming when you have a room full of boxes. We had a living room that was full of storage bins, some clear and others not, that contained belongings from other rooms. It seemed daunting but having a donate, keep and toss area helped make quick decisions about redistribution. The basement also held what didn't fit in the living room, so I can identify with what you need to deal with. You will be so happy when you are back in your home and it is organized again. Doing it now saves you from a repeat even if it delays your return to it. Not having any boxes in sight when you return will be a blessing.
Waving hello to harley07, reader 425, taco, intolight and anyone else I may have forgotten. Hope everyone has a great day.

Jackie, what my mom, Bob & I all immediately noticed after the bandage came off the day after our first cataract surgeries was how vivid colors were—especially blue! Before the surgery it was as if I were looking through a yellowed sheet of cellophane, and anyone I faced who was backlit looked like a silhouette. Push came to shove when I was playing a set at a suburban festival on a tented stage facing the sun. I could not see the fret markers on the side of the guitar neck nor tell (visually) if I was playing at the correct fret! Like betrayal, I too opted for just the distance correction because a new IOL doesn't slow the progression of presbyopia—which is caused by focusing muscles becoming more sclerosed with age. I have astigmatism, so drugstore readers won't work (they make every square grid look like a parallelogram). I went with my usual progressives, but with a much milder distance correction. (The frames hide under-eye bags and help me save on concealer).
I spoke too soon about things at the house proceeding apace. Got to the house this morning only to find that today they were bringing back only the appliances, daybed, and twin bedframes. Stove is hooked up but gas not yet turned back on (more about that later). Only the kitchen fridge (the big French door LG) was brought back—the ol' reliable top freezer plain vanilla basement Kenmore top-freezer is still in storage. So are the headboard for the king-size bed and the footboards for the twin beds. They brought the LG in in pieces (doors, hardware, body); but they couldn't get the L door to sit at the same height as the R. (The L is the one with the icemaker and water dispenser). Took both guys 4 hours and they couldn't figure out what was wrong. (I suggested calling Abt, which sold me the fridge back in 2018, but it's out of warranty so I'd be charged for a service call). The dryer was brought to the wrong part of the basement (where the Kenmore belongs), and is not level (the pedestal on which it sits was not delivered). The sump pump appears to have been unplugged, so I'm hoping against hope for no torrential rains. The daybed sways unstably—several screws & bolts are missing. The crew is coming back tomorrow with its appliance specialist and the right hardware for the daybed, so hopefully the fridge can be reassembled, hooked up to the water line, and plugged in. Meanwhile, due to humidity the basement doors stick (the door from the stairway and the one from outside too), as well as the door up to the attic, so they will have to be re-hung & planed. The contractor is on a job "out south," so he sent his two older Polish-only speakers to clean up the closets that got all filthy during construction (and it took heavy use of a translation app to make any headway). Also discovered that in the den—which is where Bob watches TV—the crew drywalled and painted over where the cable & satellite outlets were! So no point in calling Astound or DTV to reconnect us yet.
And the restoration company said today's items were a "rush order" in case I had to move in imminently. Everything else will arrive no earlier than August 8, the day after the visiting vet appointment which will be here in Lincolnwood. So it's conceivable that we may not be home till Labor Day. (The rent is an arm & and a leg but at least we will have a big fat casualty-loss deduction on our 2025 tax return—which we didn't take for 2024, as everything up till 6/30/25 was fully reimbursed by State Farm).
Rinse messaged me that they washed and dried the linens—and if they got the stink out, I will send them the white split-king set for the next load. I bought the Downy Rinse & Refresh to use only if my Tide Free & Clear and white vinegar don't do the trick. The new twin & twin XL sets don't smell, but maybe I'll have those laundered as well to remove any chemicals that might be harmful to sleep on. The dinette set now smells merely grassy, which is because of the linen blend in the upholstery. I can live with that. So no need to Febreze. But I will plug in the Zevo traps to catch the flies that snuck in, what with the doors having to stay open.
So I'm home and staying in tonight (the Rinse driver will leave the bag behind the porch chair so the porch pirates—or tomorrow morning's possible storm—don't get it). I'll be there again in the morning.
Will definitely do triage on the boxes, which should be labeled. There are going to be a lot of "free to a good home" and "come and get it" posts on Nextdoor Edgewater.

Sandy, I can't imagine going through all of that and with such incompetent workers too. My poor brain wouldn't be able to remember all those pieces.

Good Morning as we wait for our predicted rain that if getting dark is a good indication ( it is ) will soon be here. It is gong to be warmer today though despite rain. Up to now, the rain has had a bit of a cooling effect. Going warmer is not what I want, but you take what comes.
Christine, Sandy is a whiz and keeps those plates spinning I think more than anyone else here could. I myself would have a notebook with all sorts of tabs and then would still have trouble keeping up. I write things down all the time and scribbles on my calendar trying to keep a FEW things straight and operative is FEW.
Glad to hear that it seems almost everyone (if not everyone) notices a big difference after cataract surgery. I am tired really of the 'poor' sight right now. I think I will (seems a majority do) ask for being able to see distance since one looks for 'signs' all the time when going places. Also, since my up close sight is not great I won't mind having to wear glasses still. I am so use to it. So, I'm already looking forward to getting this accomplished. I do think colors are a lot more dull to me than they should be.
Nothing special for today much since rain is going to be the big feature of the day. I think we will all take it easy. Hope you all have a fine day.

Decided to get an early start on weed pulling in the juniper bed before it got too humid or hot. Temp about 72 when I went out and weather person said showers in otehr areas but not expected for this area. Well I was out there for about 30 minutes when the drizzle started. It wasn't raining ahrd and it actually felt good. DH came home from walking the dog and asked if I wanted an umbrella to walk back to the house. Now mind you I am already soaked to the skin, so the answer was a decided "no". I finished my goal and of course as I am heading back to the house, it starts to diminish. I do want to run the vacuum inside so I'll settle on my half bag of weeds and the fact that I did get to where I wanted. There is always tomorrow to continue to work there.
Once we remove the chicken wire cages there will be the weeds under the junipers to remove still, but there are only 7 trees. DH put the last 4 posts in yesterday so we will need DS to help attach the green fencing. I will mulch this area to finish it and we have 20 bags. I think this area requires at least 10-12 bags. DGS may be coming to stay next week so he can help with weeding and mulching. He likes to help and I will reward him for his help; I just don't tell him upfront that he will be paid. It should look nice when done and it will be nice to see the junipers free to spred their branches more.
Still gray outside so I expect we will have more showers. I have work that needs to be done inside so will concentrate on that. Hope everyone has a great day.

back home to temps much lower than I was enjoying inland. Brrr
Overcast today and same predicted for tomorrow. Mid 60s here brr I left likely mid 80s which I enjoyed.
I need to get my mulch done. So far I have two bags from last year I haven’t used. I have gardening planned during the week as I’m off work then. My hydrangea is in bloom.
Have a great rest of the weekend everyone!!

We’re home. Check out at 10; but we were on the road just after 9.
The mansion - the lady of the manse, Mary Thompson, toured Europe. She had an elevator installed, bathrooms with marble walk in showers, next to claw feet tubs; imported from Italy the statues and water fountain at the entrance; she had an aviary with 500 birds; and so much more. Her husband was a banker, our tram driver said the bank would be Citibank today. I’d say this is how the other half lives, but I’d think they fell into the top percentage.
Jackie, my mom had the same issue, too much use of Downey and dryer sheets. The towels just smeared water over our bodies. I thought I was going nuts, it was like a waterproof towel, and I stayed wet. But yes indeed, they were soft and fluffy.Carole, I’ve been told for years now that I have the start of cataracts. I’m like you with night driving, if I’m familiar with the road I have no problems. But unfamiliar dark roads, I don’t want to drive.
Chris, my mom taught us to wash everything before use. On occasion some items will get worn before use. If you think your hair is thicker, that’s all that matters. You cut looks good.
Petite, glad you received good news in your cholesterol.
Sandy, if I haven’t already said it, you’re a trooper. You need put on the calendar a massage or something other treat to take a break for you. There is a lot going on, extending your rental, etc, make sure to take care of yourself.Betrayal, sometimes it’s worth paying for the tailoring, and it sounds like you’ve found a good one.
It felt good to get home, laundry done, and luggage emptied. Now on to the Cape Cod list of things to bring, which is a lot. The realty company sends a list too, but I’ve got an Excel spreadsheet for my own stuff.
Here’s hoping we all have a great and restful Sunday!

Good morning. It's a bit cloudy but due to be partly sunny — some possible rain though. Hmmm. Well, yesterday's rain did come, several times. Each time a monsoon. The dog pen is done now and we are working on the sliding glass door that will allow Lil' Red to exit the house without having to be put on a leash first, directly into the pen. There is a latch and gate though — just easier for us to open a door for him.
Cindy, so interesting about the 1800's Citibank. I think you are right about the other half in the 1800's too. I'm in that other half as most people are. Having cleaned for yrs. for people pretty well off, I'd really have to say most of the time they didn't seem to be any happier than I was — so early on I decided money was nice but you either have lots of it or hopefully, just enough. Either way life can work and you will be all right. Still, I am glad I got to visit the mansion with you and it and the grounds (imagining at the moment that aviary) that were so fantastic.
I do rely on all of you who get to visit other places to let me share a bit. Also would love to mention how delightful to share the gardens of those who have them. All are a delight for me.
As to our dog pen, the slats in the pallets are close enough thar Red won't be able to get through any of them so we will be okay there. I think he is going to like it out there. We may put him a dog house out there ( not sure) because it is doubtful he would bother with it. I got him a crate that he never used which likely will get donated to someone else. We have three dog houses that just sit outside now with no one to use them. I think maybe it's donation time for a couple of them.
Have to go pick up some medicine at Walmart today but that is all that is on my list. So, likely I'll continue on with my clothing project. I have a box ready for Goodwill and am working on a second box. Also, a lot of puzzles need to go back. I'll have to lay in a small supply again to work — and hopefully, by the time I need more, those I returned will be gone. Either that or I take them to the Mt. Vernon store.
Waving hi to all who have posted today and hope you all have a great Sunday and nice weather.

Cindy, thanks. She didn't undercut, I was thinking about going back, but I rarely use the brush/roller, so getting a perfect pageboy is not high on my list..

Was postponing going out to weed this morning until I finished morning chores and discovered I had to charge my Fitbit. I had a basket of magazines I wanted to sort through so I decided to work on that while I waited. Glad I did because the heaven's just opened up and it poured rain. So I avoided getting soaked to the skin for the second day in a row. Yesterday, the soaking felt good. If I can get out there, weed pulling will be easier after rain yesterday and today.
Running vacuum yesterday resulted in return of back pain I haven't expereinced since before last knee surgery. After my first knee surgery the pain seemed to be knocked out by the spinal anesthesia I had and didn't return from June 2024 until March 2025, a nice reprieve. Seems any movement where I have to push-pull aggravates it so future vacuuming may be out of the question since this pain is debilitating and unrelenting. The med I have for it, I can only take at night because it makes me dizzy. DH will have to take over vacuuming it seems and he will be thrilled.
Magazine basket sorted with a huge pile for recycles, a bunch to go into car for use at doctor waiting rooms, and the rest I will attack when there is nothing worth watching on TV which is pretty much most nights now. If I didn't have Netflix, BritBox and Acorn (gift subscriptions) I wouldn't be watching TV. Don't like reality shows, the news much anymore, HGTV no longer has shows of interest (shows I liked have all been canceled or not renewed after limited runs) and endless reruns.
cindyny, I am preparing myself for your next adventure in Cape Cod. Post photos and adventures please. When does your velcro shoe disappear?
Chris, I do like your new haircut. It's the length I used to have prior to Covid when I just let it grow out. I don't like hair on my neck in the summer either so wearing a ponytail year round has suited my needs: up-do in the summer and down-do in the winter. Like you, I have fine hair so I amy try the shampoo you recommended.
Illinoislady, glad to hear the fencing will keep Lil' Red from escaping. I think a dog house would be nice for him in the enclosure.
Wow, the temperature dropped one whole degree since the downpour and the sun is shining brightly again. Not sure of the humidity but I want to finish the area I started yesterday. So I'll grab some lunch and go work outside until I finish my goal for the day. The area should then be ready for mulch. I'll hold back some bags to mulch under the junipers when the fencing is finished.
canarycat, lovely hydrangea. Glad your time away was pleasant.
Hope everyone has a great Sunday.

Betrayal, I swear by my robot vacuums. In FL it’s an iRobot - programmable after it maps your house. So you can tell it in the app which rooms to do. I sometimes I leave the guest room to weekly, but hit the high traffic areas daily. Note I say “I” when all I do is open the app, hit a button and send it on its way, usually while I’m out walking or out shopping, running errands.
In NY I have a Shark robot vacuum. The one I purchased for here isn’t programmable, I call this one Willy Nilly because that’s how it goes. It cleans the carpet, and tiles without a problem. Zig zagging back and forth through many rooms.
I do pick up the kitchen garbage bins in both houses, in case SO has left coffee grounds. I’ll put the hamper in the tub, move a kids rocking chair - to make sure it can get through/under a wing chair.
Best part of these vacuums is no back pain. Both of mine I have to empty myself, at least once a week. But there are models that have a docking station that removes all debris from it; some also mop! Worth considering to avoid back pain.
The Shark, because it isn’t programmed, I can put it upstairs and let it go up there too. GEEZE that was long winded!I see the surgeon’s PA on 7/23, and hope to be out of the Velcro shoe. I purchased the hiker type Clark’s and hope he’s ready for me to wear them. Steri strips are still on in 3 places, and the toe with the screw in it is still kind of swollen.
We just had some rain, but not enough. Too short to do anything. I did hear thunder after the sun was back out, but any real rain missed us. Dead lawns and plants trying their best to stay alive.

cindyny, thanks for the plug for robot vacuums. I do not have an open concept house (and don't want one) and all rugs are area rugs not wall to wall so not sure how they would work here. Plus I have animals who insist on shedding or moulting, lol, so there are always going to be hair or feathers on floor even as soon as I finish sweeping.
Very humid so debating about going out into it. But I think I will go even if for only 30 minutes.

@cindyny and @betrayal I use an iRobot too. My DH manages it on his phone so he bought the kind that docks and empties itself. It self-charges, then goes again until it is finished. I like that it will do only whichever rooms we tell it to do so it won't bother us. My only pet doesn't shed (we got her breed for that purpose) but I have dark wood floors (here when we bought it) so it shows everything. Most of the carpets are not a problem. The ones it struggles with (only two small throws) we just pick up ahead of time. It goes well between area rugs, carpet bedrooms, and wood floors. This model doesn't mop but I don't really want it to. It is worth it for me. But yes, there are areas where I do need to use a regular vacuum but I have also learned to live with a little more dust than before I was ill. When I lived in San Diego I had a house keeper, but they want double the cost here for less work and I refuse to pay someone as much per hour than I earned with a PhD. I always used a reputable firm with legal employees and it worked well before we moved. I have no idea what the situation is in San Diego now that ICE is more involved.
I like the ladies on this thread, but I am Stage IV and seem sicker than most of you. At least I cannot do as much. Maybe I am wrong…
