I am cringing at the nightmare stories of LG refrigerator repairs. We just purchased a new LG fridge in March when our 20 year old Maytag quit. I had hoped that if a repair was needed I could call Abt Electronics (Sandy is familiar with this store) where we purchased it and they would send a repair person out. Sounds like it may be more complicated than that. Since there is nothing I can do about it, I’ll just hope for the best.

Christine - your mountain views sound fabulous. I could look at those all day long. I am very happy in my home and neighborhood but my views are of my neighbors homes all of which were built on flat Illinois cornfields on typical suburban 0.25 acre lots.

Canarycat it’s good to hear from you. I hope you recover quickly and stay hydrated.

Carole - you know it’s a heat dome when even northern Minnesota is baking.

Taco - that is an excellent point about pre-op exercises. I don’t know the answer but suspect my friend did not have pre surgery PT.

Like many of you we are under a heat advisory. I haven’t ridden my bike outside in almost two weeks due to the heat and / or forecasted rain. I went to the gym for a workout today. It’s air conditioned but in this heat it’s nearly impossible to keep it cool. The 2 story open plan building along with lots of windows do not help with cooling. On the other hand the design of the building and outside views do make it a nicer environment for a workout. Came home and hopped in the pool for a few minutes. Of course that was when Mother Nature decided it was time to rain. Fortunately or maybe not it was more of a sprinkle while a few miles away they got a downpour. DH cannot go swimming due to the stitches in his back from the melanoma removal. So he sat on the side of the pool with his feet in the water.

    Wishing all a good week.

It was 71 this morning about 10 AM, with random rain showers. High was 75 I think. No beach today. Tomorrow should be great beach weather. Until I can get some water pictures, this pictures of neighbors will have to do.

We’ve only seen this pair. Last year I think about 6 we’re running around.

Taco, I’ve read that book and enjoyed it too. I’m reading 2 books now - hardcover and Kindle. “My Friends” by Frederick Backman; and “Tell Me Everything” by Elizabeth Strout (Olive Kitterage is a character in it, and was in other books of hers). I like them both; about 1/2 way through on each.

On the drive over here we could see the smoky air. Back home they’re on an alert for bad air quality; over here I think the ocean breezes moves it fast.

Stay cool, stay hydrated and enjoy the upcoming week.

Differences are not intended to separate, to alienate.  We are different precisely in order to realize our need of one another.

Believe Instead of separation and division, all distinctions make for a rich diversity to be celebrated for the sake of unity that underlies them. We are different so that we can know our need of one another.

We saw a wild turkey yesterday on the way back to the resort from our biking. He/She crossed the highway. Usually there are several turkeys but we saw only the one.

I realized after we had biked that it was too hot. We drove to the village of Akely, which has a giant Paul Bunyan statue, and biked to Nevis, about 6 1/3 miles. We rested and shared a diet Dr. Pepper from the Shell station. Then we returned to Akely. My tank of energy was on Empty the last 2 miles. I was wet with perspiration and exhausted. DH was in better shape. He doesn't sweat like I do. I was expecting muscle cramps but drank a lot of water and didn't have cramps. I slept very well last night and feel good this morning.

The owners of Pine Hollow left early this morning, headed south to Texas to visit their son and his family. We're in charge of looking after their three cats. This amounts to adding two different kinds of dry food to their bowls and tending to the three litter boxes. They're very shy cats and disappear when we unlock the door. Their only human contact is with the owners and their adult daughter. We don't mind cat duty and would gladly pet the cats if they ever came out of hiding. These are very indulged cats. The owners operate a big tv remotely when they're away because they believe the cats like the tv playing.

I may do laundry this morning rather than go to the gym. First I'll check to see if anyone else is using the washer and dryer.

Canary, I hope you're feeling better this morning.

Chris, I wish you would post a picture of all those buttons.

Taco, are you playing golf in the AZ heat?

    Wishing everyone a good Monday.

Lost a filling in a front tooth yesterday and called Dentist to leave a message for today. The office called just as I was leaving for PT and was able to squeeze me in at noon. I had to call DH to bring my ABX to PT because I am supposed to take it for 2 years prior to any dental work. Had to cut PT short but I was able to get the tooth filled. Now waiting for anesthesia to wear off so I can have lunch.

Off course to make the morning more stressful the traffic light on the cutoff wasn't working, meaning we sat through 3 lights before any one realized that the women pushing the button to be able to cross the road, were not responsible for the light failure. So I waited until the light for the main road turned red, and then crossed the highway to get to the lane I needed. I was still on time, but I hate being not early. Told PT I would have to skip icing and stimulation today but did get exercises done.

Sunny and 86 degrees so it is hot but not as humid as Saturday. There is a breeze so that helps. DH is finishing work on landscape lighting and another project. I think I'll skip mulching today and save it for tomorrow. Not yet shady where I want to work so that's another reason to stay in. I have things I can do inside like dust and iron.

Carole, I admire you for that bike ride.

cindyny, your neighbors reminded me of the commercial on TV where after moving in, the couple discovers they live next to screaming goats. Turkeys can be very possessive of their territory so seeing them from a distance would be fine for me.

harley07, your gym sounds nice and a great place to be while we are under this heat dome. I know you miss riding your bike but better to be safe.

I loved the weight meme and it's nice to know I am just "flooded". I meet new PCP in August so waiting to see if she brings up the "weight" issue. Hope not but perhaps I will use this on her.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Good day to all. I'm checking in late. Did a bunch of work this a.m. after quotes and went a bit far. I'm icing my lower back for my troubles hoping it takes. Sure don't want the Medrol pack if I can help it. A great case of I was going to do things differently and then changed my mind. Usually your first impulse can be the better one. Wanted to hurry so put too much waste in one bag — thinking it was going to be all right — nope.

Otherwise, another warm day with a very very small breeze. Like yesterday — in the shade for short periods, tolerable — but stay out of the sun. Glad you were able to do your filling quickly and get back to normal. Just hope results are not too difficult for your skipping the stim and icing you usually do after PT. Good that this issue came up in your lager PT stages.

I hope you all have a great day. You are all in my thoughts.

Tippy has been asking to go outside even in this heat. We go out and sit in the shade and he is happy. I got my Visible set up. Will give reports on how it is working.

Wow, Chris, that's a lot of buttons. I'm impressed with Tippy's button vocabulary.

Christine. good for you dealing with the sink issue yourself. That must have been a big job.

Betrayal, you were fortunate to get to your dentist so quickly.

Jackie, sorry that you strained your back.

I spent the first half of my day catching up with laundry. With just one washer and one dryer, it requires quite a bit of walking to and from the laundry room to do three loads. There's always a sense of accomplishment when the clothes are folded and put away or hung on hangers.

I'm thankful that the weather wasn't as hot today. I have had the 5th wheel camper open all day with fans going. One fan is in the ceiling and creates a draft. The humidity must be lower. All in all, I have enjoyed the day.

Beautiful day on the Cape today. I think high was 83, on the beach a nice breeze made it bearable.

    IMG_0200.jpeg IMG_0201.jpeg

We got there about 11:30. I read a bit and we had our lunch. SO at one point had to put the umbrella on his chair as he was reading. We were both covered in 30 spf so no sunburn. By 2:30 we headed back to the house.

I don’t know what there is about an outdoor shower, but I love them. As soon as we got home I got in the outdoor shower to get the sweat and sunscreen off of me. Felt great!

Dinner tonight was a walk around the corner from the house. We’ve passed the restaurant for YEARS, and it’s always packed, so it’s about time we ate there. It was delicious, and nice to stroll over and back.

Tomorrow the temperature and the heat index should be very high. We plan to go out to the National Seashore where it’s always windy, hence cooler. Last year we froze. Haha! I’ll at least get pictures of big waves from the Atlantic Ocean vs the sound between Nantucket and us. The bay side is even calmer than the sound. Maybe we’ll see some seals - and stay out of the water if we do. Truth for me, I haven’t let my foot into anything other than my own pool, so I won’t be in the ocean at all.

Everyone in this heat snap stay cool and hydrated!

Petite - congratulations on your new cabin! Cooler weather and great scenery make an excellent combination. I hope you make many happy memories there.

Cindy - ahhhh! Those water views are so calming. I can almost feel the salt breeze. Glad to hear you are keeping your feet out of the water until you are fully healed.

Chris - the array of Tippy’s buttons are amazing. Such a smart dog (and a smart and patient teacher) to be able to communicate using the buttons.

Betrayal - glad you stayed inside today. You absolutely deserve a couple days of downtime from your gardening.

Illinoislady - love the meme. It makes me feel so much better to be flooded rather than fat. 😀

Intolight- I’m tired just reading about the sink overflow cleanup. Good for you for handling it.

Had the ENT appointment today for follow up on the ‘mildly suspicious’ thyroid nodules. Complete and total waste of time. Doctor was very pleasant but perhaps just a little condescending although that might be my interpretation of the meeting. Spent less than 5 minutes with me. Assured me that the radiologist took the liability by stating ‘no follow up needed’ on the ultrasound report. Not sure what he meant by that. Of course, the radiologist that read my TVUS in January 2024 said I didn’t have ovarian cancer - that didn’t work out too well for me. He also said that it is improbable that either BC or OC would metastasize to the thyroid. I asked about studies indicating that BC survivors have 2x the risk of thyroid cancer as the average person and he said I’m too far out from my BC diagnosis for that to be an issue. In short, no follow up needed and I should not worry as I am very healthy. I pointed out that I was not worried but my GYN Onc referred me and I felt I should follow up. I kinda felt like he figuratively patted me on the head and sent me on my way.

The CT and MRI scans in March/April of last year indicated a kidney cyst and a pancreatic cyst. The CT last month indicated the kidney cyst is no longer worrisome and the pancreatic cyst is stable. GYN Onc referred me to a GI doc for further direction on pancreatic cyst follow up. GI appointment is in September and I expect the results will be the same as today’s ENT appointment. “You’re healthy, nothing to worry about, blah, blah, blah etc.”. I’ll go but expect that will be the end of it.

My goal after that is to continue follow up with GYN Onc every 3-4 months and a yearly visit with my PCP. Oh, and I have an appointment in January with my MO to see if my WBC has returned to normal levels (if not, so be it). That is all I’m willing to do in the absence of any very concerning symptoms.

Tomorrow is forecast to be hot, although slightly less so than today and should be in the 70’s by Wednesday and for the balance of the week. Looking forward to cooler weather.

Decided to beat the heat and go out to mulch while it was still 77 degrees since it is expected to hit 90, but feel like 100 degrees. I was working in partial shade and would have loved a breeze to keep me cool. My goal was originally 3 bags of mulch since I would have to move them to where I wanted to distribute it. Did the 3 and took a break to cool down. DH had put lawn chair in the shade with a bottle of cold water out for me. I ended up spreading 5 bags total and the daffodil hill will need at least 3 more to finish it, but not today. It looks good, but I am sweat soaked and it is really hot when your forearms sweat and it doesn't evaporate. I made an hour outside and that's all I could bear. Have I ever told you I hate to sweat? Plus for some reason my nose decides to run like a faucet in addition to the sweat pouring off my forehead and into my eyes. Ugh!

I made nectar for the hummingbird feeder so will clean that and refill since nectar will ferment in this weather.

petite1, so happy for you. That mountain cabin sounds like a nice place to escape to when you want cooler weather or a change of seasons. Good luck with it. I am sure your family will love to visit.

harley07, do you get referrals for specialists from your ob-gyn doctor? I have gotten good ones from my PCP for specialists and for the most part they have been good. I do draw the line at one specialist recommending another because they are usually "friends" and tend to repeat whatever your doctor said. I would seek a second opinion for the thyroid report. Your research found a valid point and I, for one, would not want my concern "poo-poohed". Those doctors don't always understand breast cancer and its effect on other parts of the body.

My GI surgeon didn't feel that genetic testing was needed after the pre-cancerous polyp (rare and highly malignant) reappeared a year later and had to be removed. However, my MO insisted that I have it due to the nature of my BC and the family hx of colon cancer. It was negative, but the relief I felt was tremendous. I know you don't like to go to doctors and I doubt any of us do, but I would want the peace of mind.

carole, I do think you get a workout when you have to lug laundry back and forth. Why do they only have 1 washer and dryer? Do others at the camp have their own?

Chris, love how you did the color change to show us what Tippy sees versus what we see. Interesting. I never realized he was 10 and he still has so much energy, but of course he is a terrier and they are known for that. Do the buttons verbalize whatever he chooses?

cindyny. loved the beach photos and the fact that the restaurant you have waited years to try was very good. Worth the wait for sure. I wish I could smell the salt air. It is so refreshing and great for cleaning out the cobwebs in one's head.

intolight, sorry you had the mishap that caused such a mess for you to clean up. I have a garbage disposal, too, but watch what I put in it. I learned over the years that certain food scraps just don't do well in it, like potato skins, so they go in the trash.

Illinoislady, hope your back is feeling better today. Leave the heavy stuff for DD or DSIL.

For those is this heat wave, stay in, drink fluids and be safe. Hope everyone has a great day.

Good morning. I'll be on my way shortly ( another super hot day ) to Mt. Vernon to get an X-ray. I have had a Medrol Pack ordered along with more muscle relaxants which I will pick up after the X-ray. While we are gone daughter Kate will give Lil' Red a bath. Despite flea meds he continues to itch and she thinks he needs a 'better bath soap' which she picked up last night.

I took a second muscle relaxer so hope it has kicked in. Had to sleep in recliner last night — ugg. But moving in bed just wasn't working well and while getting in and out was okay - it was just okay. My melatonin finally was able to kick in after I went to the chair.

Nothing planned around here today for sure. I will maybe be able to do cat boxes hopefully with the second pill. Hope so, They have been so easy, but were the thing that caused my issue — I tried to empty both boxes into one garbage bag and it was too heavy although in my defense, didn't seem like it would be. Anyway, as mentioned, the boxes are really easy now —bonus points — any #2 is dried out before I remove it and all # 1 powders. The box stays VERY clean along with the scoopers — no smell and when most of the pellets are used then the box (still almost totally clean ) can be emptied ( quick wash and sanitized ) with refill and we are all set once more. So much quicker for the most part than when I was using Fresh Step or some of the other litters.

I may check in later…this is short but know you are all on my mind and I hope for you a safe, happy, and as cool as possible day for all. Petite — Congrats in order for you. I hope you are going to sooo enjoy your new part-time home. Sounds fantastic.

Betrayal, 17/28 are wants. Others are more social. I think I answered your question. The guideline for walking a dog is not over 81 deg. We can sit outside in the shade, and he can pee if he wants to.

Illinoislady - I hope your back starts to feel better. Back issues are tricky and central to all of our movements. Perhaps the X-ray will give some insight and allow for better treatment.

Betrayal - thanks for the feedback. The hospital’s central scheduling referred me to the ENT and the GI doc. I haven’t had an OB GYN in many years and no longer need one since I see the GYN Onc several times per year (all my reproductive organs have been removed). My PCP is on maternity leave until October but honestly she is pretty useless - always willing to send a referral for a cardiologist (which I don’t need) but not much else.

For now, I’m okay with no follow up on the thyroid nodules as I wasn’t concerned. The GYN Onc was concerned given my medical history and the notation of mildly suspicious nodules. The ENT said if you autopsied everyone who died in their 80’s you would find that 20-25% had thyroid cancer and didn’t know it and it did not affect their life span. Now I can report back to the GYN Onc that I did the follow up. I just felt foolish for even following up when the radiologist stated ‘no follow up was necessary.’

Chris I too am amazed at how well you and Tippy work together. I also think most of the time dogs since they only want to love us, will respond well to the people who have the patience to work with an animal. To my way of thinking — Tippy is close to human in that he can respond by button knowing you will come as close as you can to giving him what he desires — within reason. The amazing thing is — he seems to know that too.

Harley, you likely got all your Dr.'s thoroughly handled taking follow-ups. Even if it didn't seem needed. Hopefully, things will even out now.

Carole, MN even at temps seeming pretty warm to you would likely still be okay for me. It sounds like you are getting unusual days this yr. or is that just me. I always enjoy hearing about your MN life so I may have just overlooked odd weather before.

Anyway, I'll get x-ray results in a couple of days. Till then, I do have a stronger muscle relaxer and the Medrol Pack. So, I'm doing much better at this point. It was a real relief since I worried about sleeping and being able, even if very slowly to do my chores. I think most are not possible with care. I do worry about the steroids in the pack — may be keeping me up, but we will see. I can always sneak a nap hopefully if I'm up at night when I don't want to be. Came home today and really flaked out — but the muscle relaxer from VA was not quite strong enough. Should be great now.

Petite - congrats! Beat the FL heat in a cabin in NC sounds perfect.

Harley - I see my endocrinologist for my thyroid nodules. I’m getting yearly ultrasounds of them to make sure they’re not getting bigger. I’ve had one biopsied and it wasn’t cancer. But they check on them yearly, easy enough with an ultrasound. They dx me with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis too. So for the ENT to poopoo your visit is crazy.

Jackie my back has been bothering me too. If I turn or move a certain way, a ZING zaps me enough for me to yelp. I need to make an appointment for my muscle therapist, if she can get me in before Ireland. In the mean time Biofreeze and Advil keep it at bay- thankfully it’s not constant.

Chris, Tippy is one amazing dog. And you having the patience to train him is great. You both benefit from his learning. And all of us get a kick out of it too!

Today we headed to the National Seashore (we have an America the Beautiful park card, get into Natl Parks free) and the first beach we got to the parking area was full. Drive on to the second beach, the close lot was full (handicapped and resident parking) but they have a further away parking area with great shuttles- at least 3 that I saw. These pics are at the Nauset Light beach.

    IMG_0211.jpeg IMG_0218.jpeg IMG_0221.jpeg

There were a lot of seals, a sign that sharks could come looking for them as a meal. So the lifeguards were out on their board going back and forth more than I’ve ever seen, and no one was swimming far from shore - most were in ankle to knee deep.

But boy was it hot! We thought we’d get a good breeze but it wasn’t much. I read for a while and then had to put up our chair umbrellas, I was baking. Back home, once again, I got in the outdoor shower to get sand and sunscreen off of me.

Tomorrow again is supposed to be a real hot one. We plan on going out further along the National Seashore.

    IMG_0227.jpeg

I tried multiple times to catch a picture of the seals. One group of 4 weren’t that far away, and one seal was big, but I always missed getting a good shot. Water was 62! (home pool is 86+)

Wow, Petite - good for you. Continuing to live your best life.

Cindy, just finished "My Friends" last night. 5 stars! I didn't like Stout's first book (though most in my book club did) so haven't read the others but maybe I should give her another try especially since she set the last one in Maine. Now back to Kindle reading "The Last Twelve Miles" - a a female rum runner and the female cytologist trying to catch her. So far, pretty good.

Yes, I'm still playing golf - only nine holes and early. I also wear an ice towel when I'm on the course. Today I was home by 10:00.

We badly need rain. The Phoenix area has gotten greatly over-populated and people seem indifferent to the drought situation. Read just today that our "suburb" is now the 10 largest city in the state. Getting ready to build a major railroad hub about 10 miles north of here that also sounds awful. When we moved here in 1997, most of the land was orchards.

Big tech companies come here and use up way too much water I don't understand why they do, as our education system is so bad that we aren't a base for that type of skilled workers.

"My Ella" starts high school tomorrow. I'm so glad we've found each other.

  • harley07
    harley07 Posts: 574

Canarycat - I’ve seen the tsunami warning for the west coast of Canada and U.S. I think you’ve mentioned living near the water. Please be safe.

Taco - good for you getting out to golf. The ice towel sounds like a fine idea. So Ella starts school tomorrow? That seems really early. When do they get out of school in the Spring?

I used to work in Big Tech so I follow that industry fairly closely and yes, Arizona is the new hotspot. But as you mentioned vast quantities of water are needed for semiconductor plants and Arizona is short on that very critical item. Did the state offer incentives to build the manufacturing plants? Or was it mostly the federal government?

Cindy - your pictures continue to be amazing. I didn’t realize you were going to Ireland. Have you been there previously? What areas will you be visiting? We were there 3 years ago and rented a car. Visited Dublin, Belfast, Galway (and the Aran Islands) as well as the Dingle Peninsula and Kilkenny. A fantastic trip, although I must say that driving on the left on their very, very narrow roads was quite the experience.

Thanks for the feedback on the thyroid nodules. I’ll have to give this some thought if I wish to pursue further follow up.

Sandy - I’m sure you are swamped with moving stuff but wanted to let you know I'm thinking of you.

Illinoislady - hoping the stronger meds allow you to sleep tonight.

DH’s dermatologist called today and advised that they did not get clear margins on the melanoma removal. So next week they will need to re-excise and take more tissue. That pushes the excision of the precancerous lesion until mid August.

Went for a walk tonight just before nightfall. 88 degrees and humid. Ugh! Expecting cooler temps with rain tomorrow.

I read an article on protecting the back from injuries. One big NO-NO is the BLT movement. Bend, Lift and Twist. Another bit of well-known advice is to use the legs when lifting.

Hope you enjoy your new property, Petite.

I like looking at the ocean, preferably from a balcony, but do not like walking in sand, sitting on sand, lying on sand. When we go walking on the beach, the tide is out and there is a strip of firm wet sand to walk on. You obviously feel differently, Cindy. Nice that you're enjoying your ocean getaway.

Today I have an UGH duty. Cleaning the carpet in the camper. There are a couple more UGH duties facing me. It's probably better to get them done in the next week or two. Meanwhile the Canadian smoke will be with us all week.

    Happy Wednesday.

I have not reported the frustration of being the mother of a toddler. He uses the angry and pain buttons in a manipulative way. I just have to say no.

I am back to sewing. Busy working on patterns. They are one size fits most, loose-fitting, and with minimal pieces. Very simple. My newest one is thigh-length with semi-circular sleeves, meant to be worn with matching knee-length shorts. The idea is that the top is worn with a camisole or sleeveless tee, while the shorts obscure the lower part of the body. With a longer top, the shorts make bicycling wearing a dress possible. Especially difficult with a recumbent bike. These are sari fabric, some of which are more of a voile, so they are airy, suitable for hot weather. Like India.

Good morning. Today is hair appt. day for me. I'll be glad to get it done. Was a little afraid I'd have to skip it but enough drugs to get me through the mild discomforts that generally are quick while there. Thankful for all the 'back' wisdom. I slept really well last night despite a late nap yesterday. Bit sorer for it this a.m. but nothing like the original discomfort. Sometimes amazing what drugs can do. Still, I'm also an ' only if really needed ' person on drugs.

Taco, sorry to hear the East seems to be getting the most rain overall now while the West gets far too much drought. I can identify about orchards. California lost a lot of orchards too. A lady living close to us in Ventura, Calif. fought for years to keep her land in orchards. At the end though developers finally found some clause, somewhere, and after 14 yrs. of fighting it she finally has to give up her land or lose it to eminent domain or some such thing. So now most of 'her' land turned into townhouses which seemed so out of place.

Harley, sorry to hear that your Dh will have to as yet have more work on the pre-cancer spot. I had the good fortune of having Mohs's done where they are able to check the 'specimen' before you leave and bring you back in if need be. You likely didn't make plans for Aug. too much just in case.

Sandy — about that Kenmore. In your basement. Just the reason why things are not made so well these days. 30 yrs. So, we all know it CAN be done. Kenmore's I think are still being made, but depends if you can find a vendor anywhere, I'd venture to say they will not preform as well as the 'older' ones. Modern tech. just is flimsier and NOT built to last. Sadly prices don't reflect well for the fast turn-overs in large appliances.

Love the water pictures Cindy. I confess I'm always looking for the waves, but I find it so calming that even a good picture can get me feeling a bit more settled.

Waving hi to all and hoping you have a fantastic day.

Chris, at least Tippy doesn't have a button that says "MINE." So maybe you've skipped his Terrible Twos phase. As to those tops you're making (caftans?) we'd love to see pix. Maybe even commission one!

Harley, so sorry that your DH's derm couldn't get clear margins—but hopefully the melanoma is still superficial. Bummer that your own biopsy/excision has to wait. I'm also waiting indefinitely to have "Eppy the Blob" (the epidermoid cyst on my back) removed by my own Dr. Pimple Popper. Dentist says that most of the filling in my molar is still intact, so as long as I wear my retainer and then carefully brush after eating I'll be OK till our next scheduled appt.

We're under thunderstorm and flood watch till tomorrow afternoon. Natch, today the guys will be moving furniture in, and tomorrow is my mani-pedi (when I have to wear flip-flops). It almost always rains or snows on pedi day. Hair? I will wait till the Argyle Ave. construction project is done, because that's practically the only route I can reach my stylist, and all the parking spots normally on Sheridan will be hogged by those who always parked on Argyle. Hoping now that the new Red Line station is open, the construction detritus clears apace.

Heaven forfend the Kenmore has bitten the dust during its hibernation (it has no icemaker or water line); we'll get the cheapest replacement option we can from Abt (we bought it at Best Buy in 1995 for under $500).

Wren, what an ordeal. And what a nice police officer who came to your aid.

Chris, I would like to see pictures of your sewing creations, too.

Luckily, I picked a perfect day to clean the carpet. Low humidity and cool. The carpet dried in a couple of hours with the help of fans and definitely looks fresher and cleaner. I like my Hoover machine. It's relatively light weight and does a good job, judging from the water in the collection tank. My next job is using the little power washer we brought with us to clean the deck. Then I'll clean the exterior of the camper, using a long handle brush with soft bristles.

I ordered a Fitbit watch, and it came today. The instructions said to charge it on arrival, and a tiny little instruction booklet said to download an app. Tomorrow I'll try to get acquainted with my new gadget.

I have a 30 plus year old Kenmore gas clothes dryer that I bought second hand when we moved to our house. It has never been repaired. Knock on wood.

Other than the dishwasher, our 20 year old house has all the original appliances. I keep thinking any day…. My daughter just called and said she thinks her dryer (also 20 years old) is setting off her fire alarm.

Harley - I expect that AZ is paying the tech companies to come but I'm not sure. IMHO, a very bad idea!

Fire in the Grand Canyon is getting bigger and is only 4% contained. So sad.

Hope everyone can stay safe from this terrible weather.
