taco, we had a very nice luncheon at the North Rim Lodge seated at the window with a canyon view years ago. We could also see small fires on the other side of the canyon. The loss of that lodge is immeasurable to anyone who ever had the privilege to visit it. It was so beautiful.

I pray they can get the fires under control. This was one of our favorite places to visit. A few days in Sedona and then a few at the canyon.

Whoever you are, there is some younger person who thinks you are perfect.  There is some work that will never be done if you don't do it.  There is someone who would miss you if you are gone. There is a good reason for becoming better than you are .There is a place that you alone can fill.

Good morning. I too am sad about the fire at Grand Canyon. It's one place that I had the opportunity to visit , although long ago now, and it was stunning. Hope they can gain control soon.

Nothing special today. A person is coming by to give us a quote on changing out our shower for one that you would not have to step up into. I was never sure why anyone would wan a shower like that but back when this house was put together (some may recall my home started out as a single wide mobile home and the man we bought it from build a house around it and then carted all but one wall out the front door) and I guess it made sense to that fellow. We were study when we bought the house but can't tell you the amt. of times we both scraped out feet getting in the shower. I feel like in these un-certain times we likely won't be able to afford this project, but Dh just insisted we check.

I am still feeling the back but it is much better. The pain is at a level which for me means most of the time I feel very little. But there is enough to keep me cautious about the things I'm doing. Hopefully, by the time the Medrol pack is done — I'll be pretty much okay. Then maybe I'll look for some exercises to add some strength back. I think when you have to stop what you normally do at this age, the loss of strength comes quick.

I'm on the next page but I read all the entries and am thinking about all of you. Hoping all stay out of the heat is your having it and all are well.

It was 8:30 when I went out to mulch and 78 degrees. Humid and no breeze at all. DD and DSIL stopped by last night with DGD and DGS in tow. DSIL's mother belongs to a pool so they had a pool day had had invited us to go but I don't even own a bathing suit and DH who owns a bathing suit didn't want to go. They brought us soft pretzels from Bernie's and they smell so good. This area is known for soft pretzels and sorry, but one's I've had elsewhere don't cut it. Slather them with yellow mustard and they are a great treat.

DGS was able to move 8 bags of mulch for me to areas I showed him. So I was able to spread 8 bags of mulch in about 80 minutes. I am soaked again and it is now 83 degrees. The temp isn't as bad as the humidity. The bed will still require about 6-8 more bags to finish since I have an area of the daffodil hill to finish and the curved bed that abuts the driveway. DH just drove to Home Depot for 10 more bags.

I'll have 17 total so I can finish this area and move on to the hill bed. I still need to install stakes for fencing but will ask DH to help with that. Tomorrow is supposed to be low humidity and only 75 as the high. So plan is to mulch the 2 beds tomorrow to finish them, and then work on stakes over the weekend which is supposed to be nice. Hopefully I can then mulch this area before the heat returns.

I do have PT tomorrow so start will be later.

Finished laundry yesterday, got nectar out to hummingbird feeder, and watered all plants on first floor. I was so tired after PT yesterday and can't blame it on lack of sleep. I have been sleeping relatively well until last night when all the water I drank yesterday caught up with me. Knees do wake me but I am able to drift off again so just a momentary blip.

We are projected to get severe storms this afternoon and township truck came by to clear street drain at foot of neighbor's property. It takes the runoff from their driveway and since we fought them over the placement and depth of the driveway to ensure our front lawn didn't flood, it works well. There is a small buffer hill between the edge of their driveway and our yard now, so no flooding.

Was waiting to cool down before I take a shower and work on getting stain off fingernails from the mulch. So off to shower and a change of clothes.

Illinoislady, glad your back is feeling better, but take it easy because the Medrol pack is part of why it feels better. Hope the quote for a lower shower threshold is not cost prohibitive.

Hope everyone has a great day.

I was successful today in introducing my new little watch to my iPhone. I changed the face of the watch to a traditional clock face. It will be fun to see what kind of information the watch gives me when I go to the gym and ride the upright bike or walk on the treadmill. I haven't worn a watch in a long time. I check my phone for the time.

Betrayal, when do you expect to have completed all your yard maintenance? I guess there is ongoing upkeep after all the weeding and mulching and planting.

Jackie, good news that your back isn't giving you a lot of pain.

Today, like yesterday, rated a 10 in the weather category. Started out cool enough that I wore long pants and a long-sleeved shirt to play golf today. I played with two younger women who were nice players and very nice company. Our score was pretty good.

Carole, if the weather is cooperative, all should be done by the middle to end of August. I didn't get to mulch some of these beds last year nor weed them so I am playing catch-up.

The delay in recovery from this knee with the hospitalization for 5 days really put me behind with healing, getting to PT and then ambulation. Otherwise I might have been done by now. The weather has been scorching as well, meaning there were some days I couldn't work outside. It's my therapy so while I chomp at the bit with being so far behind, it will get done.

I think all of us have some physical outlet; you golf and go to the gym which I have no interest in, and I pull weeds which you don't have an interest in. It is physical, when I have to handle/move 40 lb bags of mulch and I get my steps in. Still not as many as I would like, but I am getting there. Besides when I finish a bed, it looks great.

I thought I posted last night. We drove over to Marconi beach on the National Seashore on Wednesday. It was nice and cool down near the water. Again I didn’t get in, but did enjoy reading my book with a breeze.

    IMG_0248.jpeg IMG_0255.png

Shark flag warning: A lot of seals swimming around - way down the end of the beach they were about 40 per my SO who walked down there.

    IMG_0240.jpeg

Today we stayed local. It was overcast, with a high of 77. We walked around Harwich, toured family visiting to area spots, had dinner and went to the large beach in West Dennis.

    IMG_0259.jpeg

We pretty much had the beach to ourselves. Few people thought it was a beach day, but we were game.

    Everyone stay safe!

PS - I actually walked 2 miles today. First time in a long time. And yes, my toe ached or hurt, just didn’t feel normal at one point. But after a brief rest, back walking I didn’t seem to notice it. I hope I can get in more walking, I miss it.

Betrayal, I use pine straw for mulch. I usually have at least 20 square bales delivered. It's a pretty brown color and decomposes to become part of the soil. I know the feeling of satisfaction when a flower bed looks nice. You're right in saying that gardening can be great exercise. When I was on WW, I would count gardening hours for exercise points. Now I can only spend 1 1/2 to 2 hours doing yard work instead of 5 to 6 hours.

The joke is on me with my first night of sleeping with the new watch. I didn't set it for night time. So the light flashed on during the night with my arm movements. And this morning there is no sleep information. Live and learn. The watch automatically takes my bp and registers heart beats. I thought I was ordering a FitBit but it's another brand. Today when I exercise at the gym, I'll set the watch for the cardio activity.

    Wishing everyone a good Friday.

Decided to forego mulching today in favor of digging holes for posts for chicken wire fencing. It is 69 degrees with a nice breeze though from all the effort I still sweat, but am not soaking wet as I was for the past few days. Weather people announced that 21 of the 31 days in July were over 90 degrees setting a new record and for those who disbelieve in climate change, they need to take remedial science. So it has been very hot in this area and our humidity usually matches or exceeds the temperature, making it miserable outside.

So 13 holes later the fence posts are all installed at 4 feet apart to encircle the azaleas that the deer regard as a snack. I did have to trim one to keep it within the future fencing and discovered that 3 branches that hugged the ground had rooted, so I replanted them in the bed. The second one I had to trim, I took one of the larger branches, trimmed it and stuck it in the dirt to see if it will root. If it does, I'll have another new azalea in addition to the 3 with roots I planted. The dogwood DD gave me last year, did not make it. The white hydrangea is full of blooms and I am looking forward to releasing it from its confinement. The deer ate my blue hydrangeas this year, so not one bloom on them. It needs a good weeding and then after the fence is installed I will mulch before we seal it up.

On his June visit DGS asked if we could go to A Taste of Britain for a high tea but I wasn't able to get a reservation when he was available. I was able to snag on for tomorrow so DD, DSIL, DGD and DGS will be our guests for a late lunch. It's a lovely little restaurant and it also has a retail shop where it sells items, foods and bakery items. They make the best scones plus sell the clotted cream and strawberry preserves. So I will buy some to take home for breakfast. DGS is so excited and DGD has never been there so I am looking forward to her reaction. She can be a picky eater so hopefully we can find something she will like. They make a wonderful Welsh Rarebit.

DGD got hit on her right hand pinky by a basketball and the finger is swollen and purple from bruising. DD took her to an urgent care for an exam and x-ray but it appears it is not broken (I didn't think it was when I examined it but told them to have her checked out yesterday). They did put a splint on it. She's right handed so it is giving her some issues with eating.

Still working on balance on an incline in PT and had DH estimate the degree of incline on the hill I was trying to work on, his estimate is around 40 degrees. It's hard on your calves and since the ground is very wet from the downpour, with flash flood warning, we had yesterday, it is slippery. I did what I needed to but there is one area I will let someone younger weed for me. It's just too steep and I don't want to fall.

I am welcoming the next 5 days where we will have milder temperatures and lower humidity. I should be able to make a big dent in weeding and mulching.

Hope everyone had a good day.

Wednesday started out hot but then the downpours brought the temps down into the 70s. Out came the pants & long-sleeved t-shirts instead of tees & shorts. Yesterday & today the weather was perfect…except for the awful air quality (both wildfire smoke and ozone). Yesterday Chicago had the dubious distinction of having the worst air quality of any major city in the world. Right now it's improved to "unhealthy for sensitive groups." Had I spent any appreciable amount of time outdoors I'd have worn a mask. Last night I actually had to put on a bomber jacket—I've become quite sensitive to air conditioning now that I've lost weight. (Anemia is also a culprit, despite the iron supplementation). My thyroid is normal, though. I find that if I don't eat enough I feel colder.

We have about half our furniture now. Still no blinds (the contractor promises they'll be up by next Tuesday). The restoration company had no luck repairing the LG fridge, and the only reservoir they (and I) could find on LG's parts site is shaped differently, with a hose that is too short and the wrong gauge. I went online last night to make a repair appointment with Abt (didn't call due to the lateness of the hour). The earliest they could squeeze me in was Aug. 20. (We'll almost surely have moved back in by then). This morning, I called, and the repair dept. had a tech call me back. They have a couple of vendors that stock discontinued LG parts (and confirmed my fridge—which was top-of-the-line when I bought it in 2018—is also discontinued). They will ship the part to me so my restoration guy can install it. Should it take too long, I can always use ice trays and the Brita pitcher I bought for it. (We have a bigger one here in Lincolnwood with a spigot—I bought it because gallons of spring water are expensive, though great for upper body resistance training).

The bed has been fixed—it's pretty high (but no taller than the one in the master BR here), so I bought a stool for it. Bob, of course, is tall enough not to need it but I can't say the same for guests. The semicircular pot rack is still too high for me to reach without a ladder; but I found an oval one that hangs from chains—my contractor can install it to hang from our existing rack

The kitties had a field day with the cicada, till it couldn't fly more than a couple of inches high. Eventually BangBang chased it beneath the coffee table. I'd considered putting it out of its misery but BangBang loved to play with it. The next morning I found it dead on the carpet, and flushed it before the cats caught on.

Tomorrow is our block party. We'll drive down with a couple of bottles of bubbly and sling chairs. Our backyard has been sodded and the lawn looks great. Monday the gas grill will be serviced. Thursday I'll head to the dentist, who says enough of the amalgam is gone that I'll need a crown.

After two days of strenuous work in the garden, I am resting. Also a good idea, as something is burning, and apparently our local fire department is helpless to stop it.

I got a new phone, got everything transferred. Actually it went pretty well. I-phone 16e. The package lacked the specialized block for charging it, has something weird. My old phone is wiped, will be put to use to document would-be bike thieves.

I still have a bunch of other things to do.

well it’s our long BC weekend here. I have today and Monday off. I overdid it with my walks. Home now bagged. Fluids and electrolytes in. Now to think about dinner. Very warm here.
I’ve lost two dear friends ds this week to Cancer. One metastatic melanoma and the other recently diagnosed with liver CA with Mets to spine and lungs. Phew. And another friend’s husband got hit and killed at a lighted crosswalk. Yup he was a pedestrian.

Reminds me it’s time to drag out those dreams and get cracking. Cartoon is for fun. 🤩. Be grateful and spend time with the roses. 🌹

canarycat, love the cartoon. Sorry to hear about the loss of those close to you. Cancer is a beast.

Chris, glad to hear you are giving yourself time off after the gardening. Enjoy your new phone. Recycling the old one to deter bike thieves sounds like a good plan.

Sandy, had a chuckle about the cats vs cicada. Seems like you are getting closer to your move in and hope you can get the refrigerator part you need.

Was able to spread 7 bags of mulch this morning. We went to A Taste of Britain this afternoon for high tea and everyone had a great time. It was DGD's first time and she ate her whole kids tea (including the extra sandwiches) they gave her. DGS also got the adult tea and ate everything. DSIL and I ordered other meals including the vegetable soup that was so good. Funny but he doesn't like vegetables and ate the whole bowl. It had corn, zucchini, yellow squash, celery and peas in a vegetable broth.

DD and DH also got the adult full tea. I bought scones to bring home, for us to have tea with clotted cream and strawberry preserves, for several days. I bought a royal blue fascinator to wear on our cruise to Alaska. DD bought one to wear for our formal night as well. Both are elaborate net roses with fancy trim including feathers and beads; hers is pink. I look forward to wearing it.

We came home and DGS changed some flood light bulbs for us, and then he and DSIL, moved 10 bags of mulch for me. They also finished the weeds in the section I could not reach due to the degree of incline. So we can proceed with mulching and fence installation starting tomorrow.

DGD and DGS have been staying with DD and DSIL for nearly a week. They love going there because they take them out to eat, to local fairs and sometimes the movies. They were saying their year old dog has been so worn out by them she starts to growl when she's had enough and last night took herself off to bed way before her normal bedtime. I have never heard her growl except when she's rough housing.

Hope everyone had a great day.

The high tea sounds like fun. LOL on the puppy retiring early to his bed.

We've had some gentle rain this morning and it's dark outside. Our plan was to bicycle from Park Rapids to Dorset (6 mi.) where the Taste of Dorset is supposed to happen today from 11 am to 2pm. Arriving by bicycle would be much easier than finding a parking place. We'll see how the weather affects our plan. I wouldn't mind a lazy day at home.

Was able to spread the 10 bags of mulch that DGS and DSIL moved up the hill for me yesterday. It was one of those use gravity and then adjust as needed situations. I still needed to move a few of the bags, but I was able to drag them rather than have to lift them. Did some weeding on other areas and am calling it a day. So the top half of the azalea bed is done and I can complete the lower half easier. I will get DH to place the bags for me and then I'll take over. We hope to be able to enclose with fencing by Tuesday. I'll finish the curved end of this bed later using gravity and since it is narrower, a bag will go further.

Took meat out of freezer to thaw because I'd like to do a mass meal prep using the microwave and oven. Hope to start today with making spaghetti sauce with meatballs and Italian sweet sausage. I have short ribs I will sear and then do in the crockpot. I need to find a recipe for Beef Stroganoff using them. Lastly, I have a package of pre-cooked ground beef I will use either in Sloppy Joe's or add it to Onion soup mix to serve over noodles. I can always freeze some for later fast meal prep since I have a Seal A Meal machine which I love.

DD trimmed Misty's nails for me. Misty loves to be brushed but sometimes swipes at me with her paw to express pleasure. However, she has never learned to keep her nails retracted and she snags me. I end up bleeding and not happy with her. She is not a happy camper when getting her nails trimmed and sounds like someone is killing her.

Then I held Bumblebee, my canary, while she trimmed his nails. His nails were so long I was afraid it was interfering with his ability to grasp the perch (they grow so fast). She cut one a tad short and we saw a drop of blood so I used a wet tea bag to stop the bleeding. The tannic acid works well. He was fine last night and this morning. He doesn't seem to mind it, but he is hard to catch. I use sand paper perch covers but he eats the gravel off them.

Going to go get a shower and relax. It's a gorgeous day outside and last night was the first time we were actually able to sit out on the patio without it being too hot or humid. I hope tonight is the same.

Hope everyone had a great Sunday.

BangBang also pets me without retracting her claws, and I have the scratches to prove it. (My facialist joked that she's guilty of elder abuse). She won't let me trim them, so I had to book a mobile groomer (not easy to find) for next Sunday. $110 for the two cats—and they won't do it in the house, just pick them up to take to the van parked outside. Bought some Jackson Galaxy sprays that I hope can calm them when the time comes to move them.

Block party was yesterday, and a lot of fun. Bob brought his laptop and got some work done between the brunch and dinner BBQ (I napped). Still soooo much to do! Grill team coming tomorrow. No idea when the rest of the stuff is coming, so can't give my HK a date to fly up. Grrrrr…

Well ladies, it’s been a hell of a day. I ran with my niece to a mall north of us to pick up an order, grab some travel things and just kick back. I don’t keep my phone loud so it was no surprise that I missed a phone call. But then my nieces phone rang, my SO calling to tell us bad news.

Our neighbors started a fire in their fire pit, maybe with an accelerant and the fire jumped to their wood privacy fence. Then spread to my wood privacy fence, and to scorch my garage. Two fire companies showed up.

    IMG_0287.jpeg

Picture I took looming into their yard with both of our fences burnt down.

    IMG_0288.jpeg

The side of my garage and melted planters too. Also have a scorched bird house.

    IMG_1738.png

    Photo the fire department posted.

    IMG_1728.png

We had a yard full of firefighters.

    IMG_1753.png

And the road full of fire trucks. They even closed the road to traffic. I can’t thank them enough. Two companies that I need to drop off something for them.

I’m thankful it wasn’t worse, and that it was the garage and not the house. But note, my neighbors never even acknowledged that they nearly burnt down my garage. Not a peep, even when my SO saw the wife and called her name, she turned away.

I’m hoping my insurance company goes after their homeowners insurance to cover the repairs. My deductible is $250 and I don’t want to pay it for their negligence.

Tomorrow I’ll be at the police for a report. And see what the fire company does regarding reports.

It’s after 2 AM and I’m headed to bed. What a day. My stress level as I pack to leave for Ireland on Wednesday is through the roof. I actually made myself a drink tonight. HA! CALGON take me away.

PS - Sandy, I know this is nothing in comparison to your house fire. This adds to my feelings of: I don’t know how you do it. ❤️

Cindy, what a horrible thing to happen! Your neighbors are definitely at fault. I hope there won't be a hassle over making them pay for repairs. Thank goodness the damage wasn't worse.

It's gloomy and overcast here this morning. My neighbors Mary and Lyman left early to drive to Fargo for Lyman to have an angiogram. I hope that medical procedure goes well.

DH went to the golf course for men's league. I hope he doesn't get rained on. It will be my turn this morning to tend to the owners' cats. DH has done it for several days.

I started weeding the graveled playground area yesterday. I will do a little every day until it's done. I'm very tempted to use a weed killer but the little playground is close to the creek.

I will go to the gym a little later. It adds some interest to set my exercise watch for whatever cardio activity I choose, upright bike or treadmill.

For those of you who wear a Fitbit type of watch at night, how much deep sleep do you normally get? I am not getting more than an hour, according to the watch app report. I'll have to do some research and find out what is typical. Most of my sleep is light sleep.

    Happy Monday to all.

Cindy, what a frightful thing to come home to. I am thankful for the FD and all they do. Here's hoping your insurance company can get your neighbors to pay.

You all have encouraged me to wear my fitbit and check on my sleep which I am sure is poor, but I probably need proof.

I have a PCP appointment this afternoon. It is with a new doctor. The funny thing is, this is our first originally scheduled "get acquainted" appointment that took four months to get, but I have already seen her twice for quick med checks thanks to my oncologist' request. Strange way of doing things!

Carole, my Fitbit Inspire has a comparison to those our age called Benchmark, since sleep patterns vary greatly by age. An hour is fine. The sleep function on the Visible is under development. I am running comparisons, and it is quite interesting.

Intolight, I think the Visible would be more suited for you. It compares your performance to your previous performance so you can schedule gradual improvement. In general, Fitbit's goals are geared more towards athletically inclined young people where all are assumed to be alike. I actually have a $20 coupon.

Chris, I actually have a smart watch (off-brand) that works fine and keeps track, but I haven't worn it for a few months. I don't like getting notifications from my phone on it and just turn that part off, but I do like wearing a watch. I just need to charge it and wear it. I should anyways as it keeps track of my BP and O2 which I need since I wear oxygen 24/7. Thanks for the recommendation in case I decide to change.

oh Cindy those pictures say it all clearly neighbours fault.
I have a Fitbit versa 3. It does all the sleep comparisons and benchmarks too. I like it.
betrayal I still haven’t dealt with picking up more mulch. It’s on my list of things to get done tomorrow or maybe later today. I have a massage at 230. Not the greatest time. My RMT has cancelled on me twice now so I’m seeing someone else in her office. Ugh. My main RMT is with a different clinic and on holidays. Lucky him.
it’s sunny with some clouds today and we may get rain the next two so I need to get cracking on any yard work soon. Out I go to check on pots that likely need water.

PT will decrease to twice a week but think she is planning on discharge by next week at the latest. Still haven't been able to get left knee flexion to 120 degrees but continue to work on it. Have met all other benchmarks she set. Provided home exercises for me to do and I will keep at it. Feeling good but do experience bilateral knee pain at night so it makes for restless sleep looking for a comfortable position.

Took today off from gardening because my back has flared up. I'll give it a break and hope the lidocaine patches will take care of it and the Tizanidine will decrease the spasms.

"It's always something" seems to apply to what's happening with Sandy, cindyny and even me on occasion.

cindyny, sorry that your neighbor did not monitor their firepit. Did they even attempt to put the fire out? Good thing someone called the Fire Department. I would say your insurance company will go after them for damage repair, fence replacement, and it looks like your garage wall will need to be replaced. Believe me, nothing can be done before you leave for Ireland, so leave it in the hands of your insurance company and a plan will be ready for you when you get home. Where are you headed in Ireland? We will be heading there next spring. Enjoy yourself and have a Guinness for me.

carole, I get about 6 hours of sleep on average according to my Fitbit Inspire. It lets me know when I've had a really miserable night, as if I didn't already know, but then I can look back to see how frequently they are occurring. Since bad nights are usually pain-related for me, I can then talk to my pain management PA about this.

canarycat, the mulching is not a rush job and you'll get to it eventually. Enjoy your massage, I am envious.

intolight, I can set what I consider acceptable activity levels for myself on my Fitbit and usually am able to make them with just my daily routine. On days I garden, I do exceed them and that is fine. I hope you like your new PCP.

Today is warmer than the weekend was and the humidity is still in the lower range but you do break a sweat working outside. I decided to mop floors instead so the laundry room and powder room are done. I took a break before doing the kitchen floor since the back and forth movement aggravates my back. I wish they could discover why I have this trigger spot in my back and figure out how to treat it. It can really be debilitating at times.

Saw pictures of the Grand Canyon fire and it is so disturbing that they aren't able to make a dent in extinguishing it. It's heartbreaking.

Saw that the cat rescue I contacted about volunteering is still advertising. I contacted them, heard back and the person who was to contact me, never did. Sad because I was willing to help weekly.

Hope everyone has a great day. Waving hello to everyone not mentioned.

Betrayal, my Inspire gives me a cardio load score, I cannot set that. I can set goals for steps, etc. But with the Visible, I don't need all those stats, heartrate covers everything. And I can set their equivalent of the cardio load for myself. Intolight, yes, for you the O2, which Visible does not have, is essential. Do you have an oxygen concentrator? I like the phone notifications between Fitbit and iPhone.

Chris, Yes, I have an O2 concentrator at home. I also have a portable one for when I go out. I can get 4 1/2 hours on a charge, but I also have a charger attached to the cigarette lighter in my car, and my DH has set up a 12 volt battery charger that will go all day if we need it to. He is a Ham Radio operator so has lots of battery chargers, etc. I am well cared for! I have been on constant O2 for over two years now. We live at 7000 ft which doesn't help. Last year we took an Alaskan cruise and I didn't need the O2 at sea level, but we love where we live and don't want to move. We also live with our DD and DGD and take care of each other. My body is just worn out and can't garner enough O2 on its own. My lungs, etc., are fine otherwise.

Did I tell you my brother runs his off his electric bike? And he does a lot of pedaling. Someone stole his first one, which was the pricey Innogen. He was devastated. He has been told the $500 ones are just about as good. I am sure by now he is all set up with another and will keep an eagle eye on it this time.

Yeah, Colorado would be a problem. I visited a cousin there quite a while ago. My brother lives in California, where the elevation is 118 feet.

Living with relatives can be a very good deal for people who can't take care of a home. I just found someone who can help me with some of the heavier housecleaning, maybe every other month. I discovered today that I can't hand-scrub floors. Hands don't work that well, and neither does one knee.

Cindy - the damage to your property is awful! It looks like the fire got out of control very quickly so perhaps they did use an accelerant which they could not control. They should be coming to you and offering an apology. You (and they) are very lucky the fire did not spread to your homes. As Betrayal said, let your insurance company handle it. Enjoy the trip to Ireland! Look forward to hearing all about it on your return.

Sandy - sounds like progress is being made but there are so many things to take care of. I hope you can keep the cats calm for the nail trimming.

Betrayal - I don’t know how you do it. I ache just reading about the weeding and mulching. I’m lucky that DH handles the yardwork. I love well groomed gardens but I am way too lazy to do the work. We have one bed off the patio that needs to be changed or updated but I’m not sure what I want to do. I’ll give it some thought over the winter. If DH doesn’t want to do it, we can have it done by the landscaper when he does the spring clean up. The high tea sounds like fun.

Carole and Chris - how is your air quality? It was pretty hazy here in northern Illinois over the weekend. It seems a bit better today.

Intolight - hope you are well and enjoying your beautiful scenery.

Illinoislady - how is your back feeling?

The weather has been cooler the past few days so we’ve making the most of being outside as higher temps are expected later this week. We went kayaking on Saturday and it was a much better experience than last time. We verified that the drain plug for the kayak was securely in place before heading out. Went for a bike ride yesterday and a hike in a state park today. I think tomorrow I’ll just sit on the couch.

    Waving hello to all!
