Need help anyone else had anything else come back on their pet scan

Hi I am 37 years old I have recently been diagnosed with IDC triple negative and went for a pet scan the scan come back and said that the area hasn't spread anywhere else but the scan did pic up something in my colon area they weren't concerned at all really but now I have to wait yet again before I even see oncology to have a colonoscopy done. I really thought after my pet scan I would get on with doing something proactive like getting treatment now I feel right back where I started extremely scared and frustrated just waiting to be told I have cancer in my colon as well. Has anyone else experienced this? And did you have a better outcome than what you thought I'm going crazy again I had excepted my breast cancer and was determined to get on with the fight this has set me right back and I feel deflated and I haven't even started any treatment yet the constant wait for scans then results is driving me mad because what am I waiting for the long I wait with no treatment the worse it's getting I am really frustrated any advice would be very much appreciated

Hi @willtash202537, I’m sorry you have run into this frustrating delay. If by chance it were colon cancer the oncologists would come up with a treatment plan that would target both cancers at the same time. The delay would be worth receiving the most effective treatment.

I was in a similar situation later on when I had a pet scan looking for recurrence. A spot at the bottom of my esophagus showed up so I had to have an EGD and biopsy. It turned out my Barrett’s esophagus had developed dysplasia (a precancerous condition) so it was removed with radiofrequency ablation. Chances are good that the blip is a benign or precancerous polyp that just needs to be removed. After that you would be able to have your planned treatment.

I feel for you since the speed the NHS moves at depends very much on where you happen to live. When I resided in the wilds of East Lothian everything happened in slow motion. When I moved to Edinburgh and was a patient in a practice affiliated with the medical school things got done quickly. I live in the states now which has its own set of medical pros and cons. I hope they get you in for the colonoscopy quickly so your treatment can get underway. If your tumor were ER+ I’d suggest getting a script for tamoxifen from your GP. For triple negative I don’t know if there is anything your GP could prescribe to keep you stable. Maybe someone who is triple negative would have an idea. Hugs for you.

  • Thank you I know it's the right things for the best treatment I'm just frustrated with feeling like a sitting duck. I'm struggling to understand how I can go from being fine one month to possibly two cancers the next month and I'm only 37 it feels very crazy a little unbelievable for my brain I think. I am glad things were resolved with you quickly that's what we all hope for when we have those test done isn't it but the fear it might be so much worse is always there. In reality the NHS have been amazing with me and it hasn't been to long not really it's just my brain saying get on with it now.
