All animals at the sanctuary were rescued due to injury, owner abuse or illegal possession of a non-native animal. They live out their natural lives there.

Forgot to mention sloths live with their mother for 18 months. One sloth would regularly escape from its walled enclosure (about 4 feet high), but would always come back. They weren't able to determine how it got over the wall. Each has their own tree and they are not in close proximity to each other.

Costa Rica forbids photos with any sanctuary animals. If someone were to post such a photo, the sanctuary would immediately be forced to close and lose all financial support. They do not want the animals exploited. I could have included the face of the worker holding the babies, but decided not to even though her face would have been permissible because she was an employee.

Entered Panama canal from Pacific side. Had an emergency layover in one lock to evacuate a seriously ill passenger. By number of luggage bags (>5) thought it was a family dusembarking . Nope, woman and get intubated and monitored spouse. Did not look good.

Quite an elaborate procedure to disembark including use of wheeled gang plank and multiple first responders. Of all the places to require hospitalization, this was probably the best. Not that anyone wants this on a trip. I feel sorry for the woman who is all alone now to deal with this. Sad day.

Yesterday I ran to Home Depot. They sent a 10% off coupon so I thought I’d grab some things. I needed a new Delta bathroom faucet. We’d replaced all parts with genuine Delta parts and it still dripped after about a week of use. I bought a new overhead light for inside the garage; 4 packs of leaf bags; a bucket; and a surge protector. Big splurge not, but I saved about $18.

Today I ran to Aldi’s for pumpkins and a few other items. Next is I’m hoping to put up the new light in the garage - I’ll open the box and see what I’m up against - it hangs from a chain. 🤷‍♀️

Good news of the day is gf dh is scheduled for the external ablation at 3pm today. If all goes well they could be back home by Friday.

I need to dye my roots tonight. Mammo & ultrasound tomorrow at 7:40. I don’t want to be lying there with white roots shining. Ha!

Sunny & supposed to go up to 66, although 58 now. Wishing you all a great day!

betrayal - the sloth pictures are adorable. Sounds like the visit to the animal sanctuary was awesome. It’s always sad to see someone medically disembarked from a cruise ship. I think it’s a reminder to each of us how precious life is. Hopefully they have travel insurance.

Cindy - good luck with the mammo and US tomorrow. Keeping your gf’s DH in my thoughts for a good outcome.

Not much new here - weather is in the 40’s, windy and drizzly so I will be riding my exercise bike in the basement.

Mammo & ultrasound were both good, but they’re no longer diagnostic. I’ll get a letter in about a week with results. It was pitch black when I left my house for the appointment. Then it started raining. Ugh.

After that I ran to my gf house, the one in NYC with her husband. I told her I’d strip her bed so they come home to fresh sheets. I got her sheets in the washer and left for our town landfill. I took the old florescent light tubes from the garage overhead light there for recycling. Back to her house, I had to wait a bit but got her sheets into the dryer.

I’m home waiting to leave for lunch with a gf. After lunch I’ll go back and get the sheets on the bed. I’ll also ask her if any towels need washing - I can throw them in and leave.

Gf dh- the Dr wants the battery in the defibrillator changed by Friday. They can do it there or transfer him back up here to get it done. They opted to do it there. That’s happening tomorrow and he’s being released on Friday. They’re setting up a car service to get home - I don’t think he’s up for the train.

It’s been rainy on & off, but sunny 55 now. A few minutes ago it was dark gray. Going to be one of those kind of days.

Betrayal, I’m enjoying your pictures. I’ve got enough projects here to keep me plenty busy, some will have to wait until spring.

Hope you all have a good day.

Canarycat, sorry the procedure couldn't be done today. Hope things go better next time.

Captain just announced tropical storm Melissa is predicted to develop hurricane strength speed stop in Ariba cut short so they can take diversionsry route to Ft. Lauderdale. We are not disembarking until 11/2. Some excursions will be canceled.

We'll see what we can though.

harley07, happy the Panama canal photos brought back memories of your trip.

carole, glad you enjoyed the photos as well. It is a lovely trip.

Today was an abbreviated visit to Aruba. We had no excursion planned and we met a couple who were going on their snorkeling excursion. We decided to get off the ship to explore the walkable downtown. We did pick up some family gifts.

I wasn't feeling well after breakfast, but was able to last until we returned. Can't identify which food is causing stomach upset and had been good for several days lately. Tonight we were to go to a Cellar Master's dinner where wines were paired with each course. I asked DH to cancel for me, but encouraged him to go. He was really looking forward to it so I am glad he did go. Not really hungry and not willing to eat exotic menu and drink that much wine. The menu was 7 courses.

Here are some photos of Oranjestad:

Betrayal, sorry you didn't feel well enough to go to the dinner. But I can't imagine eating seven courses of food.

Today I hope to finish up mulching the front flower beds with straw. I got the bigger one done yesterday. If my energy holds out, I will put pine straw around the nine crepe myrtle trees. The brown color of the straw looks really nice in addition to any benefits from mulch. I don't put in the long hours of yard work like I once did. It has been pleasant to be outside with more comfortable temperatures. Yesterday I didn't sneeze as much, maybe because there wasn't much of a breeze to stir up the pollen.

The weatherman PROMISES rain this weekend. Otherwise I would have to string out a long hose to give some relief to the azalea beds.

Naumkeag in Stockbridge, Massachusetts puts on a pumpkin display. It was cold, we got rained on, but so worth it!

How many people did this? Excellent artistic skills. My thoughts are that one artist drew the outlines, and other people did the cutting.

Pumpkins - there is a team of staff and volunteers that cut them. Some are not real pumpkins but they call them “funkins” like a harder styrofoam plastic. I’m not sure if the assembly set up has them each do something, or complete it on their own. The real pumpkins only last about 10 days depending on weather and then have to be replaced. We could tell the real pumpkins had some deterioration inside of them. Any whole uncut pumpkin was real.

It was a sight to see. I’m marking my calendar for next year to take my niece and make a day of it - a little shopping, and a meal in town before heading out to the home (or what was once a private home).

My gf & dh arrived home from NYC about 9:15 last night. By 10:15 she text, headed back to the hospital. His defibrillator went off again. She crawled into bed at 5:15AM. She’s back at the hospital, where he’s asleep and they’re just observing him for a day. They don’t seem to know why it went off again. She’s going to speak with his dr or dr on call for that practice to say it’s unacceptable not to know why it went off.

My SO had his Cologuard come back positive, so he requires a regular colonoscopy. His son is the gastroenterologist in the family. We believe the positive reflects internal hemorrhoids. But this could hold up plans to leave for FL on 11/5. If they can’t get him in sooner than later, he’ll get it done while in FL. But if they can get him in by 11/15 or so, we’ll stay for the appointment. Calling Monday to do a pre call with a nurse, and we’ll go from there.

We’ve got sun on & off today, it’s a cool 54. Our local car wash firm is offering a free car wash with food pantry item drop off, so I’m bundling up and going.

    Enjoy your day!
