Another busy day. I had a volunteer picking up IKEA donation and I found some bedding that was never used that she also took. The charity helps people set up a home at no charge and I really find that to be nice in this day and age. I called Vietnam Veterans to arrange a pickup for 1/21 for the clothing we had removed from DH and my closets. Other phone calls to eye doctor to insure recent report goes to PCP, and Pulmonary to get supplies now that test month is up. Still having minor issues with mask, but it's much better now.

Got up early because I wasn't sure when drapery guys were coming and wanted to clear the table runners and seasonal items off the table. Some are being rehomed to the linen closet and others will be kept in a drawer. I also sorted through the kitchen island runner drawers and removed the Christmas and Easter items to be stored in the linen closet now that I have the room. The remaining runners were separated by season or theme for easier access.

Got 2 loads of wash done as well and now I am done. My back has been bothering me for the past few days, and even with the medication, I don't get complete relief. I do have to make my bed and put the items in the linen closet.

The drapery guys came, removed the sheers, drapes and the valance. They can clean the valance on site at half the cost of taking it apart and reassembling, so I took that option. More expensive than I expected, but still cheaper than replacing them. This will be their first cleaning and considering they remove, clean, replace and then steam in place after hanging, the price seems better. They are double lined and quite heavy so pin placement is critical to prevent tearing.

DB comes on Monday to paint, so the room is ready to go. We took the leaves out of the table today, took the shelves from the China closet out and they are on top the table. The wall decorations have been stashed in a very crowded living room. We need DSIL to help lower the china closet off the buffet base or move the entire unit away from the wall

I am hoping that next week I might be able to get to DD's old closet to sort through the clothing I store there. One section is summer clothing, another is lightweight jackets/fleece hoodies, the third is vacation clothing, and lastly is the center shelving holding travel items. It needs to be reorganized after I cull unwanted or ill fitting clothing. I'd like to really reduce what is here to what I really need for summer, jackets and then travel.

I have my thoracic epidural tomorrow. I don't know what restrictions I might have afterwards. I am just hoping I get relief. DGD has a basketball game on Saturday as does DGS. His is so early in the morning and they are 30-40 minutes away based on traffic. We won't be able to go to his game and I might not make hers based on how I feel.

I hope everyone has a great day and am waving "hi" to everyone.

betrayal - Hoping the thoracic epidural provides much needed relief. The issue with the prescription bottle having another customer’s label under yours is appalling. I hope the pharmacy changes their process.

Otter - will be thinking of you next week and wishing you the best with your surgery and pathology.

Cindy - you go girl! The ice maker is fixed!

Chris - Tippy is an amazing dog and companion.

Woke up yesterday to a dusting of snow. Ack! Pulled the covers over my head and decided to delay going to the gym until today. I did make it to the gym today and had a decent workout. It is, not surprisingly, busy at this time of year but during the day it is still fairly easy to find a machine to use. I was getting bored with my workout so I reduced the elliptical workout from 3 miles to 2 miles and added the stair stepper and some upper body workouts. Temps are supposed to drop over the weekend but I’ll have to force myself to get in the car and go to the gym.

New washer and dryer will be delivered on Saturday. The current set still works so we are able to do laundry. I just need the current washer to last 2 more days (fingers crossed).

    Waving ‘hello’.

cindyny, I missed your post about the ice maker. Hallelujah you were able to figure out what the issue was and take action. I hope it works once you re-install it.

betrayal, I hope the epidural works!

Harley, we haven’t had snow but it’s been very cool, to near freezing overnight. I just ran out and put sheets & pillow cases LOL over some plants. I took 2 amaryllis plants in pots and put them in the laundry room - fearing the bulbs would get too cold if I left them out.

I have ice! (In the freezer, not on the ground) I turned the ice maker on, arm down to allow water in. I barely heard the water run in, nice and quiet now. Then I didn’t know how’d I see that it worked because I had bought a bag of ice and put it in the bin. So I put a paper towel down on top of the purchased ice. Crazy I know! The things I do.

Today I got out for my walk, it was 63, dark & windy. Just under 2.5 miles, so I’m getting back to normal. Then within minutes of getting back home it started to pour. Temps dropped to 57 quickly.

Tonight we went to see “Some Like it Hot” with another couple. Turns out we’ve all seen it before but enjoyed getting together.

    Happy Friday!

PS- anyone else get a private message from a therapist? I think I might report it.

Cindy - I also received a PM from a therapist. Good idea to report it. Hope it warms up for you. It’s not fun to have NY weather in FL.

I got the private message, too.

Harley, I admire your workout. One of my cardio machines at the gym is the upright bike. I like riding all those miles. LOL. I had gotten lax on muscle training, just doing weights in the senior classes, but I keep reading about how important strength exercise is for older people. So I will make an effort to do my own strength exercise routine in the gym at least once a week. Today is a senior class at the gym.

Betrayal, I nominate you for Excellence in Housekeeping.

Cindy, you are awesome. I wondered whether the icemaker would make ice.

My wristwatch gadget says I got almost 2 hours of deep sleep last night. That's a record. Some nights I get only 30 minutes. I like sleeping in a cold bedroom. Last night we turned the thermostat to 58.

    Happy Friday to all.

I discovered that Tippy thinks his "treat" button means "eat". I am going to have to change his board around since food is so important to him. The other day, he heard "armpit" on the tv and was excited. I think it was an advertisement about dog harnesses. I gave him a haircut quite a while ago, which damaged our relationship. He thinks I shouldn't do that, and frequently asks me when he will get that haircut I promised. He is eager to get out in the new snow. We will have an inch or so each day for the next few days. I need to get more distilled water— temps will go below zero a couple of nights.

I am changing around my nutritional supplements and other OTC meds. I ran out of several and let it be. Not good. I have alpha lipoic acid (nerve damage), B complex coming, as well as acetaminophen (which I will decrease because of the others I have started). Boswella and turmeric (both for arthritis) and fish oil. MSM (arthritis), D3 (winter depression) and cetirizine. Recent research indicates that MSM is the ingredient in glucosamine and chondroitin that eases arthritis.

My right hand is doing well, taking in consideration the fact that I have arthritis in other areas (base of little finger and middle joint of middle finger). Tippy's haircut is important because of upcoming surgery on left hand. Yes, it hurts, but OT has told me that I have to use activities for exercise my right hand daily. Have been cooking. Made cookies yesterday. Five spice cookies (like gingerbread). Will make coconut cake today, as well as finishing up the repair on a batch of five missals. I have about ten left in that huge project. Did not realize how many needed repair when I started.

Hi to all. I got the PM as well.

My friend is doing better and we plan to get together on Saturday. My tiles and floor are finished. The rental home with gophers is being taken care of as I type. I guess they trap the gophers and take them somewhere else. I will go back to NC the last of the month and get the crawl space finished. Then all will be done for the time being. God willing.

Thank you all for the kind words.

Chris, it was one of those messages which made me ask "what do they want and why are they directing me to a private email"? It was for counseling and I'm not sure I require it right now. So lucky you. Tippy amazes me with his communication skills. I like the meat = eat or vice versa if I have confused them. I loved when the hand therapist used the warm wax bath on my hands. I had one, it went unused for years, so I have it away not knowing shortly thereafter I would need it again. Have you tried that?

The procedure went well though there was a change in plans about where it should be administered. I hate when they give you the permit in the OR and hover while you try to read it without your reading glasses. It said lumbar and my trigger spot is clearly thoracic. Seems PA suggested lumbar. It was changed to thoracic and after that he noticed a local muscle which seemed to be enlarged due to a knot. He asked one of the nurses to confirm his finding and he did a multi- site (wagon wheel pattern) injection with a local anesthetic and then massaged area which he said felt like a ball. This is probably where I experience the spasms given the description.

Local is starting to wear off and it may take up to 2 weeks to feel relief. Fingers crossed for shorter time frame.

One of the OR nurses was a former Sim Lab student of mine and she said she was excited when she saw my name on the schedule. Told the others I was one of the best, and other students were envious. Such a nice thing to hear. I loved teaching fundamentals and was a stickler for learning the correct way because it would become the base of their future practices. Explained to them their skills determined patient's outcomes and their onjective was not to harm patients. Most got it.

Carole, thanks for the compliment. I need to catch up on other house areas that have been neglected while I did organization duties and then moving dining room contents. I'll see what I can do tomorrow.

Cindyny, I am so glad you were able to fix the ice maker. Another notch in your handy man belt. I do think you should take carole's suggestion about starting a repair business.

Wren, glad the new drug is working and hope it continues to knock out any new spots.

Petite1, missed the gopher story, and xan appreciate the havoc they can cause in a yard. I can tell you when they are trapped, they are not relocated because they are considered pests. Same happens to other wildlife that are trapped. I hope that your cabin issues will be quickly resolved so it b is nice and toasty on your next visit. It will be worth all the troubles once they are done. What a nice place to have as an escape.

Hope everyone has a great day. The sun is out even though it is bitter cold and will remain so for the next 10 days. Waving "hi" to everyone.

Thanks, minus two, for reporting the message. I contacted the moderators when I got home.

Minustwo -thank you for beating me to the punch. I found it rude to try and drum up business through this site, in PM to boot. I did giggle when it said she read my post - I asked SO if I sounded like I needed therapy for the ice maker post? LOL

Wren, that is pretty good news on your scans.

Petite, glad to hear your friend is ok I’ve got an armadillo that may need trapping. I get wanting the gophers gone!

Chris, be glad you didn’t get the PM. I’m glad your right hand is doing well.

Betrayal, looking forward to your epidural update.

Carole, 2 hours of sleep! I complain if it’s under 6. This morning was cool/cold and after I woke up to use the bathroom, I couldn’t wait to get back under the toasty covers. 6 hours 4 mins per Fitbit.

Harley, it was 50 this morning so I took my time getting outside to walk. But with full sun it felt great. Then my knee started to ache and I cut it short. It could be from doing nothing, to getting in 2+ miles of intentional walking. NY niece reported it was 17 and felt like it was 3. So I can’t complain to her.

I’ve moved on to spraying a bees nest, probably wasp actually. I used something called HotShot. I think only 2 in the nest, and as I left I could see one still moving around. But I came inside to look out - it was behind the hurricane shutter, that our neighbor opens for me. I didn’t see it until before Christmas as I was cleaning the guest bedroom. Nothing seems to be moving now but SO has convinced me to leave it alone, for now, and left the spray do its job.

The other night I cleaned up our bedroom and put away everything stuffed in there over the holidays. Tonight I want to organize the walk-in closet, free up some space - to get more things in our bedroom out of sight. Books, workout bag of stuff, etc… I don’t need to look at it daily.

And that’s it for me. Concert tomorrow at the casino. It’s an all day thing, ending with Marshal Tucker band. I’d like to see them, if we make it that long.

Maybe they have been watching us for a while and picked up on the fact that I have degrees in psychology? It scares off people who think I have the ability to mindread. I am no different than all or any of us.

Betrayal, a bunch of years ago I was in for OT, and the idea of a wax bath for my hands caught on and I got one. I got rid of it two years ago, thinking I would never need it again. This morning I washed dishes with gloves on in very hot water. It felt so good!!

I only have two eggs, The coconut cake calls for three.

LOL, Cindy. I got 2 hours of DEEP sleep. I normally get at least 8 hours total.

A gopher. Petite, you are experiencing a range of challenges as a homeowner of 2 homes.

Glad your scan had positives, Wren.

I paid out thousands today. Car insurance. Wind & Hail home insurance. Home generator maintenance contract. I pay the insurances in full to get the discounts. I made calls to DirectTV and managed to pull up our account online. We pay an exorbitant amount for tv but it's a major entertainment. We like to record programs and we have that option with Direct. I did get our bill reduced with eliminating packages we didn't even know we were paying for. I will probably trim the bill some more after getting dh involved. There are two more add-ons I could easily cancel.

Chris, I’ve used a wax bath once at a gf house, it felt great fur my basic arthritis. Every morning I wet a wash cloth in the hottest water I can get out of the tap, as I wring it out to wash my face, my hands enjoy it.

Minustwo, that PM has us all wondering what we had said that indicated we needed therapy!

Harley, I don’t have enough space on my phone to update to iOS26. But SO did, so he updated his phone. It changed a lot of things, like you mentioned. At times I think he has more problems now than before. He’ll be 70!so he’s no kid.

Carole, thankful you get more than 2 hours of sleep LOL! By the way, I don’t think I’ve ever had 2 hours of deep sleep since wearing the Fitbit.

Teak, that fish dinner looks delicious. ADK caught?

I made waffles for dinner tonight. I opened a new bottle of syrup, pecan flavored sugar free from Laurel, Mississippi - a visit to Ben & Erin’s general store. A flash back memory.

I used to have a hand wax bath and used it often, but we got rid of it when I down-sized 12 years ago. I loved it, but really don't like taking up counter space with bulky things like that.

Well, we are in the midst of a winter wonderland with snow yesterday and a return today. It is 3 degrees, gray and the snow continues to fall in different patterns: heavy sometimes and right now it is like small dancing dots. My DSIL sent a short video of snow in Chipley, FL. Last year when they had a storm only one neighbor had kept the snow shovel she had brought from Indiana. It was a popular item.

DB has said his current job is running over so he says it looks like it will be Tuesday when he can come. I am hoping the driveway is clear enough for him to get his truck up. DH has been annoyed at having to keep clearing the driveway, but considering this is the first year he's had to do it multiple times, and I continue to be the chief house cleaner, no sympathies since my job is year round and he has the spring-summer lawn service.

Plan for today is to tackle hall coat closet and the hall tree storage base. The former has some wrapping paper stored there as well as coats, gloves, hats, etc. The latter holds gift bags for a variety of reasons and I'd like to get rid of them and repurpose the space for other storage. I don't often need gift bags anymore and will offer them to DD and DDIL if they need any. If not, then they will get donated.

Two of my parakeets have overgrown bills which I took them to the vet for once before, however, I don't think they did a good job the last time. One bird is about 10 years old and her daughter is 5 years old. I was hoping to get them there during warmer weather, but no such luck now. They are still able to eat. I just hate to take them out in this weather. Plus it is really expensive to get it done. The cost is not the issue, it is the weather and getting good results this time. They are so entertaining.

I gave Bumblebee a basil leaf today and he is in his glory. I also give him celery leaves when I can find celery stalks with it still attached. So many trim the tops now. He's a happy boy.

Kicking myself because I wrote a bunch of items I needed to purchase on the top of a newspaper since it was the closest paper available at the time. I then proceeded to toss it before I recopied it or placed the order. I thought of a few of them, but am sure I am missing at least one, darn. Lesson learned, look for paper in the future.

I was told it would take a couple of days for the steroids to take effect, so take it easy for 48 hours post interlaminal epidural. So far, I am comfortable and it feels really good. Full effects are expected around 2 weeks and hopefully they last for the 3-6 months or a year as expected.

Of course, I haven't done any heavy work like vacuuming, or mopping, and limited housework to dusting. There's really nothing left if this fails, so fingers crossed, it does work. The back pain is really debilitating and now that I have new knees, I only have it to deal with. It, plus the knees, would limit my ability to do much. However, by itself, it limits standing, walking and sitting as well as impacting sleep positions. So what's left? Even my plan for today, doesn't include any heavy lifting or repetitive motions (which was another trigger).

I hope everyone has a good day and waving "hi" to everyone.
