We have always held to the hope, the belief, the conviction that there is a better life, a better world, beyond the horizon.

A new breed of Republicans has taken over the GOP. It is a new breed which is seeking to sell to Americans a doctrine which is as old as mankind - the doctrine of racial division, the doctrine of racial prejudice, the doctrine of white supremacy.

Jackie Robinson's birthday was today. I chose this quote to celebrate his birthday and was surprised to later learn that this quote actually dates back to when Barry Goldwater was running for President. His opposition to the Civil Rights movement in 1964. lead Jackie to switch from his long time association with the Republican party to the Democratic Party. This is when the Republican party was no longer the party of the people.
Seems that we have not made much progress in making change in the 61 years since and that is sad.

Can’t agree with you more, Betrayal. The last few years have been a rude awakening. While I knew that there was still work to be done, the extent of the hate and prejudice in this country was a disappointing surprise. People that I thought I knew have shown their true colors and are no longer people with whom I can associate. I am angry, but also very sad. Making progress takes such a long time, but the gains can be lost in no time at all.

If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality.

Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can't help them, at least don't hurt them.

The essence of optimism is that it takes no account of the present, but it is a source of inspiration, of vitality and hope where others have resigned; it enables a man to hold his head high, to claim the future for himself and not to abandon it to his enemy.
