Hi from St.Maarten! No time to read ANY messages. but will ketchup latah. HOPING no one has suffered any damage...we have been trying to keep up with ALL those tornadoes and storms. Terrible. We have good weather, but VERY hot and humid here today, so heading back to the coolness of the ship. Having a local beer right now and thinking of all your lovely loungettes! Hugs, Kathy

Stanzie - I was just thinking about when the girls were younger and I'd have to start planning summer activities in February. I spent so much time (and money) getting them into really cool summer programs based on their interests. When I started my own business they were 3 and 5, so I was able to be a bit more flexible (although I actually worked more hours than when I had a 9-to-5 job) so that I could drive them around the county to their various activities. By the end of the summer I was exhausted! DH and I went to Europe a couple of times, and Hawaii, and left them with their grands... of course, I felt terribly guilty the whole time we were away... and we also took them on most vacations... but guess what!? They only remember the programs they hated, the vacations they hated, and getting to spend time with grandma and grandpa which they loved!

Attention moms: must read The Three-Martini Playdate: A Practical Guide to Happy Parenting in preparation for summer! Forget summer camp and tennis lessons and horseback riding and art class and swimming lessons... teach the little darlings how to shake a martini and we'll all be happier! That's why families were so much happier in the 50's! LOL

Claire - good luck with that consulting opp. Can't wait to get my pc back, I've been dodging clients all week cuz I don't have access to all the files. Geek Squad backed up my data on an external hd, which I picked up last night only to find that they didn't back up the most important files. They were supposed to have it finished yesterday but it wasn't so now I'm really sweating bullets since I know there isn't a current backup. (I'd lose almost a week's work but the worst part is that I'm embarrassed to admit to my clients that I had a virus on my pc.)

    Martini Lesson Of The Day:

I like mine up with extra olives

    straightup.jpg

Fill shaker with ice, kiddies. Now this tall green bottle comes from France! It's called Noilly Prat vermouth! Just pour a little bit of this onto the ice -- just a teeny tiny bit... Now this pretty blue bottle comes from London, England and it's called Bombay Sapphire gin... who says the French and British don't get along?... pour some of the gin into the shaker... more, more, more... yes! that's perfect! .... now for the fun part! Put the cap on and hold it with your thumb while you shake it. Then you pour the cocktails into these pretty glasses... see how the ice stays in the shaker? That's called "serving it UP"... ooo, and then you stick these little spears through 3 olives and drop a spear into each glass. Then you put the glasses on this pretty silver tray and carry it out to the moms on the patio. Good girl!

Tomorrow we'll learn how to make canapes!

Gail......they missed some files on my PC too.  Fortunately, not current stuff, but need to take off my old PC, so at least I have all my files in one place.  Then create a new backup on my external HD.

Don't sweat the "admitting you had a PC virus" stuff.  Seems to happen to the best of us.

Your PC will most likely run a lot better when you get it back.

I need to get dressed up for the luncheon I am attending.  Great networking event even if for one of my consulting gigs.  You never know who will be there. So need to look absolutely fabulous.  Think I will leave my leather mini skirt at home.

Since I missed out on wine tasting last weekend, I am looking across the Sound at Bainbridge Island which has 7 wineries.  Good excuse to take the ferry over and cycle.  I can do all this without needing my car.  Think a good deal to spend money on wine as opposed to gas.

Just need a decent map for Saturday and a bit of clear weather wouln't hurt either. - Claire

AStorm-I'm going to tuck that phone number away for future reference!

DorK-home ownership is a PIA sometimes. Got oil, but the furnace isn't running, gotta get them to come out here and bleed the feed line. Oh, well.

Stanzie-I'm so glad you had a nice lunch, not so happy with the snake! Even here in Maine where there are no poisonous snakes I don't like to get to close to one. The new friend sounds like a neat woman, are you going to get together again? I haven't heard from Kittycat in a long time, now that you mention it. Hope she's just busy with life. It was not fair for the NP to remind you of your first appointment! I know she didn't mean anything, but I would have burst into tears and run out of the office, assuming I didn't just faint. Glad the sprinklers are working. Sure don't need them here, and won't have need for them in the foreseeable future. Getting tired of rain.

Karen-wow, you are one busy lady! Don't' forget to schedule time to sleep and eat! I am so afraid of the prep that I won't let my PCP refer me for one. Frankly, if I do have colon cancer I'd just as soon not know. I can not go through the biopsy/waiting/going through treatment he## again. Just can't.

Goldie-Aha, I was right, KittyCat is just busy living life! Good for her!

Claire-so good you've got job prospects! I hope you get the full time position, if that is the one you want. Too funny about the staff getting tired just from listening to your cycling plans!

Wahine! Get off the boards and go have FUN!!!!!

"...nothin' says lovin', like somethin' from the oven, and KAREN says it best..."!!!

    Cookies

Thanks for the human "yummies"--a wonderful treat!   Karen, travel safe and check in when you can.   If you have access while in Israel, you'll have to pop in and share your adventure with us!

I'm about weathered out!   Yesterday was mostly just rainy for us.  Three of our kids are about 4 hrs north of us but all are about 30 miles apart.   First, my son calls yesterday morning...he lives in a small town and was at the dr office for an allergy shot when the sirens went off.   Everyone was herded in a "safe" room and made to stay there until the sirens stopped.  He was only a couple miles from his house and a tornado touched down between his house and the dr office.   Minor damage and no one killed.  One guy--who ended up on National news had his truck picked up while he was driving; flipped the truck and dropped it--he flew out the passenger window and only had a broken arm--his truck was totaled.    We were following the path of the storm there on the weather channel--was eerie to listen to the alerts where we had both lived for many years.      Then, my dau called all upset because the sirens were gring off and she couldn't go pick her girls up from grade school because the facility was in a "lock down" til the storm passed.   I told her they were probably in a very safe place and that she needed to go to her basement.   Damn, 5 minutes later, she calls back and says she can see the funnel over the KC Royals stadium--which was  what we were watching on our tv--and I did lose it and immediately turned into mad mommy!  I told her to get back in the house and get into the basement, or I was going to spank her butt!!  And this is the "mature" adult coming to babysit me in two weeks (oh, DH will be gone for a week so we will have to PAR-TAY while he's gone!!!).   More calls from two other kids during the day with more stories.    So, being really wound up last night I decided to pad my dog beers with some good likker.l

Had cream in the fridge, dug out the Vodka and the Khalua with visions of a White Russian, when I spied a bottle of Butterscotch Schnapps--another favorite......so I schnapped myself into dreamland.  This morning, I remembered that hard likker doesn't agree with me, although at the time, I love much of it.

Happy TGIF tomorrow!!!!   See you all at the pool....just taking dog beers with me!!!!

    bottomsup!!!

Junie......now, just what was it you didn't want us to know???  We know about the wearing of the bra outside and being busted again in the bottom of your closet.

Seriously though, I can't imagine what has been going on in Tornado Alley.  Horrific.

On a lighter note, heard a great one today.  The emcee of the luncheon I attended said:

'It used to be called "tying one on"; now it's referred to as "wine tasting".'

Will raise my glass to that one!

Pants is trying to get a little "action" and some "instruction".  Are you sure you want to go there?

I found the prep for the colonoscopy excruciating, but the procedure itself minimally bothersome.  Easier than the dentist, for example.  My Internist told me I could have another if I really wanted it, and I asked him how many takers he has???  (My results were stellar.)

Have the most fun ride for Sunday (unless really crappy weather).  We cycle along the Sound to a ferry over to the Kitsap Penninsula.  Then along the shore again to Port Orchard where we take in a festival.  Foot ferry to Bremerton, then regular ferry back.  I can do all of this from my apartment.

If a good day, the most amazing scenery and about 30 miles of moderate cycling.

Salmon season is upon us here, so hoping some good deals in the markets.  Washington State has the most amazing asparagus, so have the fridge filled with spears picked in the last day or so.  Just the most amazing eats here.  BottomZ up. - Claire

Just popped in to say nighty, night!!!  I'm sooo sore and tired....Its 1 am EST, so not that late for my body, but without my ambien last night woke up every 2 hours...slept a little on the flight...then we went non stop all day.....almost everything is out of the old apt...I told DD that I would get the last odds and ends tomorrow when she is at work, then empty a few of the boxes...I told the kids, that I wanted the apt to look fairly settled tomorrow by candle lighting so that Shabbat is relaxing...I think we can get there...DD asked me to do their laundry tomorrow so of course I will.. there new apt is quite nice....all the rooms are larger plus its a 2 BR/2bath....just wish she had more counter space in the kitchen.  Told DD that I would buy them a microwave cart to put the counter top stove on.  Its raining here in Toronto....having both our shabbat meals at my DD in-laws....Will try to find time to stop by tomorrow...Hugs and sweet dreams to all...

My goodness you all had maybe a bit too much fun last night!!!! LOL!

Karen - I'm sure you are exhausted but how lovely of you to do all that! I remember when my Mom came and helped me. Something so nice to remember! I'm confused I thought Shabbat was only on Friday night? What would be the other meal? Also if you don't mind, my son with DS has gone for many years to a jewish camp as they are the ones who have a place for special ed kids which is truly amazing. Anyway, he now goes to a 10 day sleep away camp with them and he came back saying they had something and I can't figure out what it is . I know about Shabbat dinners and they bring nicer clothes for that but he talking about something and I don't know how to really spell it - this is from his verbal translation - piggy-sha? Any clue what that might be?

Oh Junie! That just sounds so terrifying. I'm so sorry - yes you needed some relaxation last night. Absolutely hilarious about the bra! Made me think of my Mom - she would do things like that. I used to tell people who would comment how elegant and "proper" my mother was, I'd have to say well yes but she also has a lot of "I love Lucy" in her too! I think finding out whether the closet will work makes perfect sense! I think you need to squeeze your dog in there with you though. Do you have a basement or any neighbors have basements?

My ex's house doesn't have a basement and he is totally nonchalant about storms which worries me when the kids are with him. Last night we got quite a lot of hail and I made all the kids join me and the cat in the basement. If it got really bad I think I'd move us all either to the furnace part where it is smaller and surrounded by dirt. The Joplin pictures are so scary and so heatbreaking. I watched Cnn for a while and just cried. There is a guy who posts on youtube and has a website he is Dutchsinse - his stuff is pretty interesting. He apparently really saw how bad it was doing to be in the Joplin area way before the newcasters did. So where you live, you might want to check his sites occasionally - I'm now doing that as we get them here too.

Claire - I agree with you the before procedure is awful. I thought I was doing myself a favor by not eating much the couple of days before and then when I drank the stuff it so messed up my electrolytes I got a fever and chills. But the actual process wasn't really anything at all other than time.... And they did find a large polyp which they removed and that makes me feel better to know it is gone! But because of that I go back in three years instead of 5. NM. It really isn't so bad and colon cancer is not good. That is what my MIL died from. So hoping you will change your mind and have the colonoscopy.

Claire - funny or odd internist I'd say. Yes I also agree you do have amazing food!!! I'd so love some totally fresh salmon! It has to be totally orgasmic just caught!

TGIF....I am soooo sore....feet, legs and arms....don't have many flights of stairs I've done the past two days....but the kids are moved into the new apt....most of what has to be done is in their bedroom and bathroom...bought them a mocrowave cart at Canadienne Tire...DD needs to put it together....we may go to IKEA on Sunday for them to get a kitchen table...the apt is really nice and so much larger than their one bedroom....they still need the handy man to hang blinds and a few other things, but his dd just had a baby and he's not available!!!!

DD#2 is done 7th grade....straight A's...I"m so proud of her!! She really busted her little behind...she got an 88% on her magazine...she hoped for a 90% but she is happy.  I need to get her a new wheel for her bike.....I think I hit it with 'big bertha', my suburban backing out of the garage.....think may let son park his jeep in the garage instead....

Someone asked about Shabbat....all Jewish holidays start at Sundown...so Shabbat is from Friday sundown to Saturday sundown....so the meals are Friday night (shabbat) dinner and then shabbat lunch (after synagogue)...

Stanzie....I asked DD#1 if she could figure out what your son is talking about and she wasn't sure...when I talk to DD#2 later, I'll try to remember to ask her.  DD#2 went to the JCC day camp all through elementary school every June and this is her 3rd summer going to sleep away camp for a month end June to end July...camp is in the Catskills.....

Junie....glad you liked the cookies....I brought the kids some...and whe I was cleaning out the freezer, see some from this past winter....need to take stock to see what they finished and what is left over.....

DH colonoscopy went well yesterday...doc found a couple small polyps that he removed, but doc is not the least bit worried about them and said normal for DH age....DH also has a little bit of diverticulosous...and doc said he could eat bran till the cows come home and it woun't change things...said its hereditary and his dad or mom probably had it...Diverticulosous was Dx last week when he had a bladder infection...no symtoms so not worried about it...DH eats lots of bran and fiber in his ceral every morning..so guessing he's good for another 5 years...When I had mine they said come back in 5 -10 years...think I'll go for the 10 year route....in a way, don't know that I want to know....don't think I could ever do chemo again....so I don't worry about other cancers!!!

Going to go call DH and DD#2 before I have to get ready for shabbat...sure do need a shower!!! Hugs, wishing everyone a good week-end....have a glass or two for me....Karen

Junie-I can smell the cookies through the computer! So yummy! I can just picture the ‘Mad Mommy' coming out in that situation. DD NEEDED a good yelling at right then! I can understand she was concerned about her children, but she won't do them any good if she gets hurt. Schnapping yourself into dreamland sounds like a wonderful way to go to sleep! I haven't tried butterscotch Schnapps, got to get me some. Of course, I can be very happy with a White Russian, too.

or did you mean this kind?

DorK-shumshing in da cookies? Lika wha??? Me is happy. . .Mabe, shome of the green kinda White Russian?

Claire-I like that emcee! I'd much rather got to a wine tasting, even if my plan is to tie one on. Being able to cycle such a nice trip right from your door must be great! I hope you get really nice weather. We had a gorgeous day today, the sun came out, it got up the the 80's, nice breeze now, may be a thunder bumper brewing in the distance (we are under a strong T-storm alert). Sadie will let me know if there's the least bit of thunder within her hearing distance, that's for sure.

Karen-sounds like you got a huge amount of work done! Good for you! The new apartment sounds like a really nice place. I'm glad for your DD, and I'm sure she appreciates the microwave cart, too.

Stanzie-I know I should have the colonoscopy, I'm just scared to death of (1) the bowel prep and all the pain and dehydration it causes which will feed into (2) my fear of needles and the fact it will probably take them a dozen tries to get an IV started. Not to mention that I'm allergic to fentanyl, which is the drug they use around here for sedation. Maybe I'll get up the nerve to call the places around here that do the exam and find out if they can handle someone like me. I hate being treated like a piece of metal on an assembly line. The last time I had an upper endoscopy done that's what it was like.

Kymn-glad to see you made it through! Be sure to come on back when you have more time to play!

Yaaay!   Kymn is back at the HTL!  Hang in there--you're getting close to the finish line!

Has anyone seen Jocks?   I'm wanting him to round up BOTH kinds of White Russians!  NM--wow--didn't know that maryjane was also called white russian...have heard lots of terms for it, but never that!   When I get around to making up a bucket list--that goes at the top--never "toked"--think I missed an "experience".   But, even back in those days, I would rather spend my $ on beer than weed.

Beansie--you feeling bedder yet?  Huwwy up and get bedder; wese be neddin youse at da next pahdy!!!!  Check in soon with us!!!

On a more serious note--DH and I have been talking that we would be willing to "babysit"--temporarily board a dog or cat that has been displaced by the Joplin tornado until their "parents" could be located.   The big problem for me is what we'd do if there was no one for the pet to go back home to--by then I would be so totally in love and we'd have to keep it and that's not part of my overall game plan.    Told DH, I needed to think a bit more about this.

ooops--I see Jocks--he's got a big grin and waving me over!   Gotta go see what he's got!   Looks like a bucket and a baggie!!!   Jocksie dahlin', just a sec and I'll be right there.....

...I'll either fly or bounce out to the pool in a little while....if I get into a hammock, would someone pls "buckle" me in?

Happy Friday to ALL!!!               we gotta get a PAR-TAY planned!!!!!!    bottomsup!!!

Kymn-Hey, we've been keeping the leopard bar stool warm for you! Glad to see you back!

Junie-White Russian is just one of the many varieties of MaryJane, one of the better ones, supposedly. I've never toked either, but I know people who know people. . . .
It's generous of you to want to board a Joplin dog, but I hear you about having a hard time letting go after getting attached. Maybe there's someplace you could donate $$ to, or a shelter where you can volunteer to help out? Without the attachment problems. Hmm, now I know why there are seatbelts on the hammocks, had been wondering why those were there. We need to invest in some cradle hammocks

    AStorm-Here's to clean PC's!

Here it is the first day of the holiday vacation and it's cold and damp. Yuck. At least I have hot water again. I am so tired of being cold and damp. I want more sun like yesterday!

    DOTD:Dark and Stormy

    8 oz Beer
    2 oz Dark Rum

    Directions
Pour rum over ice, add ginger ale, and stir.
