Nana, Happy Birthday!  Sorry I'm late!  I haven't been on the thread for a couple of days and just finally crashed here for a few minutes before going out again to a meeting.  I'm sorry that your birthday wasn't quite what you wanted, but all birthdays are fantastic!

Jackie, it sounds like you've jumped right into the job and they've discovered how valuable you are already!  I bet it is hard to adapt to the longer hours.

Lago, I take 1,000 mg of magnesium a day.  I started out taking more but had to decrease it because, as I'm sure you know, magnesium is a major ingredient in most laxatives.  I decreased my dosage until I quit having those problems and it's really helped me over the past few years with the aches and pains, especially with my feet.  Maybe I have grown a tolerance to that dosage and should try to up it a bit now to get more relief.  I'm sure my body will quickly tell me if I take too much of it.  :-)

Robo...LOL about your top reflector!  Loved that bit of humor you inserted!

I lost a cell phone, too about 2 years ago.  When I hadn't found in about three weeks, I bought another one.  This last February in Florida I reached into the side pocket of the bag I was using for swim gear and found that silly cell phone.  This was the same bag that I always carried to the library.  Eveidentally I had plopped it in the side pocket and forgotten it.  Dah!   Now I have my smart phone and I just love it.  It goes everywhere with me.  Anyway, zap, I'm glad you got yours back.

It sounds like you gals are going to have a great time at dinner!  Wish I lived closer.  If all goes well, I plan on being there for the holiday gathering in December.

Well, I'm off to my meeting.  One of these days, I'll get caught up with these posts.  Just keep those posts coming.  Can you believe that we are rapidly approach 20,000 posts on this site?  Wow!

ritajean Thanks for the  dosage info. I will start this a few weeks after my surgery. I don't like to start anything new when I undergo surgery. Laxative… sounds like good thing from my IBS issues. Tongue out

Anyone crashing at my place must wear these: linky

Nana - No need to apologize for being "down"....we have ALL been there, done that! Hugs to you...and yes...have a nice weekend!

Logo Lago - I LOVE THE LINKIE! I have several pairs of those! OMG...Illinois winters...they're a 'MUST HAVE".

RITA - Can't wait to see you in December! Can you please bring the scrapbook I made for you? I told mak about it...want her to see it.

JACKIE - I desperately want you come to our holiday get-together. PLEASE?

    ------------------------------------------

How about the "next" get-together is a PJ party at my forest! I have "spare" rooms, an outdoor fire pit, an indoor fireplace and a Jacuzzie bathtub...we can't all fit in it, but one at a time, it is great! lol

A big, friendly hug to all of you!

Morning! I don't think I will ever get caught up! Lots going on around here so haven't read in 5 days....yikes!

Mak....gentle non-touching hugs to you! Have a wonderful time in Boston...I was there years ago in the fall and it was beautiful. Only thing I might add to Lago's list is a side trip to Salem if you are into witches...quite a fun albeit kitschy town!

BJ....have fun this weekend! Yes...that recipe does sound wonderful! Limoncello pound cake...yum!

Nana....happy belated birthday! Sorry it wasn't the best...

Rita....I only take 500mg of mag! I was too afraid of the consequences if I took more ;-0!

Zap...hope your MRI went well! Had my mamm/us on Monday and I too was very anxious! Had to wait after both for the radiologist to come in the us room for 15 min and I was so sure I was a "goner". After he walked in I forgot all about my results....picture tall Indian surfer dude...this guy was gorgeous! I actually said Wow twice after he walked out and the tech agreed! Oh...I was fine. :-)

I will have to check back later and catch up, or try to...if I miss one (or almost all!) of you like Laura said...I think about you all, every day...and am always wishing/hoping/praying for good things!

    Waving at you, WendyTY!

I've marked the December 3rd. day on my calendar and have moved my doubting mind aside.  Hoping the weather co-operates, but we have a ways to go yet ( all that woods Fall clean-up )  to see how things will be.  We are getting back to hmmm what to wear days now.  Never for sure if it is going to be warmer or cooler.

I found out a couple of days ago.....the Realty office where I use to work is merging the business there into several of the other realty companies here.  Sad....they didn't even make it a full yr. after they laid me off.....and they have been here over 50 yrs.  Life goes on and they will be fine.  I know they will retain the ofc. and corporation.....and when things are much better I'm sure they will re-open.

Got to get ready for work.  I'll be checking in much later again.  See you then.  In the meantime have a beautiful Fall day.

    Hugs, Jackie

We're not supposed to drink alcohol. How about an ethnic restaurant crawl.

Like the idea of this.  Mediterrian crawl (greek town / fish and olive oil based dishes) or a Devon-a-thon (little India /cumin and tumeric /veggie dishes).

"Our study increases the limited and mixed evidence base to date regarding the role of alcohol consumption and breast cancer prognosis; namely, that drinking moderate to heavy amounts of alcohol after a breast cancer diagnosis can possibly increase the risk of having a recurrence of breast cancer and dying from breast cancer," Dr. Kwan said.

"We found that alcohol negatively affects the prognosis of all women diagnosed with early-stage invasive breast cancer who consume at least 3 or 4 drinks per week, compared with women who did not consume any alcohol," she told Medscape Medical News.

The associations appeared stronger in overweight and/or postmenopausal women, which perhaps indicates that women in these subgroups are more susceptible to the effects of alcohol, she noted.

"Alcohol has been shown to increase estrogen metabolism and circulating estrogen levels in postmenopausal women, while being obese can also increase circulating sex hormones and insulin levels," Dr. Kwan explained. "In general, an overabundance of estrogen production can lead to breast cell proliferation and possible carcinogenic events in the breast tissue." (must log in from Medscape: http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/727885)

    ---------------------------------------------------

"The use of alcohol is clearly linked to an increased risk of developing breast cancer. The risk increases with the amount of alcohol consumed. Compared with non-drinkers, women who consume 1 alcoholic drink a day have a very small increase in risk. Those who have 2 to 5 drinks daily have about 1½ times the risk of women who drink no alcohol. Excessive alcohol use is also known to increase the risk of developing cancers of the mouth, throat, esophagus, and liver. The American Cancer Society recommends that women have no more than one alcoholic drink a day." source linky

    ----------------------------------------

"From the standpoint of cancer risk, the message of this report could not be clearer," they wrote. "There is no level of alcohol consumption that can be considered safe."  source linky

Oh Lago!!!   P and I are going to a winery next week.  You truly know how to take the fun out of wine.  Seriously, I do no not want to WATCH how they make wine, well I do, but I also want to sample some and purchase a few bottles for the holidays.    The reality is I love wine and Guiness.  When P and I went to Dublin, we went to all the best spots.  The Guiness Btrewery tour was right up there with Trinity College.

Only kidding....I keep hearing the same thing and it is so good to be aware of the alcohol/BC connection.

Hope you all had a great time tonight.  Getting together with our friends from Las Vegas was good, but I would have loved being with you all.

    Hi Illinois Ladies,

How have you all been doing? I'm doing great and preparing myself for my one year checkup next week with my surgeons.  In some ways the year has gone fast and in others it seems like an eternity. My hair is about 1 1/2" long and growing way too slowly.  I can't stand to wear wigs anymore so what you see is what you get, lol.  I hope to get to met you all sometime.  When is the next get together?  I'm in a breast cancer walk in Crystal Lake on October 16th..are any of you going to be there?

    Take care,

    Nancy

My gosh you gals are gorgeous and I don't know which of you are going through treatment.  Isn't it great to get together and find comfort in each other?  The one thing I truly hated was the isolationist feeling I had while going through treatment......I've seen many pictures from lunch bunches etc.....never know what feeling the pictures will provoke --- and the isolationist one came up.  I love these pictures though....so many burdens get lifted when you get to share them and thin them out a bit.

What a pretty Fall day --- just  a little on the cool side this morning.  Hope it warms up some.  Ok....here I am complaining again.  First the humidity was a bummer and now it is too cool to suit.  I better start simplifying quick.  Will have to start cleaning the yard now for sure.  In one days time so many leaves have fallen from the trees.  I love the colors....but it does mean bare branches way too soon to suit me.

I hope you are all going to have a fantastic day.....and Lago, thanks for a great get-together and a fantastic picture.....you and Bj make it possible for all of us to be there with the pictures.

    Hugs, Jackie
