great quote, Jackie!

I saw the PS yesterday and finally got my 1st fills!!! I got 120 cc's in the right. He is trying to get them more even. The right is the troublesome one. After the 2nd sx, he only put 240cc's back in and the left still had 360cc's from initial installation. I'm not sure how much he put in the left...I think what ever was left wnen he finished the right.
Initially, I was a little freaked out. I couldn't feel when the RN was swabbing the area with the sterilizing solution or even when he inserted the needle. I could just feel the pressure at needle insertion and as he was filling. It is a very odd sensation. I truly thought I would be far more uncomfortable than I am....I'm surprised. I go again Monday at 4:30pm for another fill. I may be singing a diff tune by then, lol.
He said he wants to fill quick so we are done by the time chemo starts.

fills and drain removal are some of the oddest-not really painful sensations Ive ever felt!

There is always something to do. There are hungry people to feed, naked people
to clothe, sick people to comfort and make well. And while I don't expect you
to save the world I do think it's not asking too much for you to love those with
whom you sleep, share the happiness of those whom you call friend, engage those
among you who are visionary and remove from your life those who offer you
depression, despair and disrespect.Nikki

Running late today with the quote. Got some extra work and had to be there early. Will go again tomorrow and a while on Sunday. Then I will hopefully get back on my regular schedule. I do have to take my pc in for an overall tune-up cycle.....so not sure when that will happen but I should not be gone long.
Hope you are all looking forward to a great Easter.

Lakegirl and Aviva, I wish I could say the same. My very first fill, the PS missed the port and stuck the needle in an area of very live flesh. Even, afterwards, many of my fill were extremely painful--he was putting in100 CCs every two weeks. There were times I could hardly walk by the time he had put in 500 CCs. He kept telling me it wasn't suppose to hurt. He had give me Vicodin for the pain and once even after a miserable weekend following a fill, I had to go back in and have 50CCs drawn out. Following that he still put in 200 more CCs. Finally had my implant and it is screwed up. It is extremely high, not symmetrical. Almost as heavy as the TE was- Allegan-Gummy 410. Causes me almost as much trouble as the TE did. It is placed extremely high with a empty pocket at the bottom and the real boob--which my PS said he lifted is much lower than the FOOB. Well having extreme pain when I use my arm too much--chest and back pain, trouble breathing, etc. my BS is sending me to another PS for a second opinion. By the way, several medical professional--the lady who did my left boob mammogram and the breast cancer doctor could not even tell I had the exchange. It just looks like a mound high up on my chest. Showed it to Whippetmom on Sizing 101 and she said it seems to be placed incorrectly in the pocket or could have rotated out of place. Regardless, the old PS had suggested a revision but I am done with him. I know the new PS will probably have to undo it. I may be going through the whole procedure again. I see the new PS on April 27th. I knew something was wrong from the first fill. How in the h-ll does a great PS miss a port. Well happy to hear yours were okay.

dwill...I am so sorry things are not going as planned. Hopefully, the new PS will listen to your concerns and be able to help, you in the least invasive way.

If I want to feel younger
and look younger, then it's only natural that part of my daily routine is to
laugh more. Laughing gives the muscles of my face, chest, and abdomen a workout.
A hearty laugh stimulates my heart rate, causes me to breathe deeply, and
releases happiness hormones, my endorphins. Laughter is one of the ways I
express my gratitude to God. As I laugh, I release the gladness of my soul into
the environment--creating something that's good for me and good for all those
around me.unattributed

Dwill, it sure sounds like your PS was so sure of himself that he had NO need to listen to what he was actually being TOLD by his patient. Glad you have someone else taking a look and hopefully there will be a solution. Hoping as well that it is an easy one and there will not be any more distress caused. I'm sure it will do worlds of good to work with someone who listens to what you are saying. Wishing you well along with an easy answer that will be the perfect fix.

Getting the quote in quite late today, but got extra work and needed to take it. Having expensive issues with my computer but I'm very hopeful we are well on the way to resolving all of it now that I have a bit of time to actually work on it. I had a very outdated version of Outlook Express and it was causing lots of weird responses.
So, hopefully, a bit more tomorrow and I'll be rolling again.
I hope you all enjoyed what was a wonderful Easter Sunday. Here is was quite warm and sunny.....and after we ate we sat out on the patio for some time to let our food settle in well.

The
highest form of praise you can offer to yourself, to God and to the world is to
spend time each day expressing gratitude.
It says to God that you are aware and appreciative of grace.
It says to life that you are acknowledging its awesome presence in
you.
It says to yourself that you are worth the time it takes to be
healed.
Time spent in silence, contemplation and gratitude is time spent in
devotion to a higher calling and a more loving state of
being.0 -

Beautiful here today. A breeze but good temps. I am happy that Spring seems to be getting a bit more stable. Not a lot of rain so we will be sort of on the negative side, but overall a lot of nice sun to keep those leaves popping farther and farther out.
I hope you all have a fantastic Tuesday.

Good afternoon all...I gave to say, this Spring weather we are finally seeing is making me have a much better disposition!!!
I saw PS yesterday. I got fills again... 100cc's in rt to 460 cc's and 40 in the left to 460 cc's, now they match!!! So in 4 days, I have gotten 220 cc's in the rt and 100cc's in the left. If I lay down and don't move, I'm ok, but it really isn't all that bad. I did take Motrin and a whole Valium last night to sleep, I usually only take 1/2. Well I got up and put the girls on the bus and proceeded to lay back down. I just woke up at noon!!! I will have to watch that if it is just the girls and I, my husband travels over night for work sometimes.
How do you know when you are done with the fills? Before surgery, I was 38ddd, I don't want that again!!! Yikes!!!

Hi Lakegirl1 I would recommend coming in with a bra and telling your PS that you want to fit in that size. Some of the PS like to expand larger than you will be. You need to be very clear about what you want. I was told I would be a large B small C. I was a small 34B. I am now a 34D! While that seems quite tiny to you I'm still not used to being this big.
Also if you are that sore after expansions/fills you can ask them to fill you less or take some out. I was only expanded around a shot glass each time... but they had to do a lot of skin stretching since I was so tiny to start with. My PS took is slow.
Hello IL Ladies. Been MIA from this thread but I have been reading. So happy its spring. Been of course power-walking in the zoo/park in the AM. Its wonderful.

Lago...Fortunately, I think...I had a lot of skin to work with. I'm doing ok during the day with Motrin. I just don't want them to "fire" up the hives again. I now have a slight rash where the Tegaderm was at the PICC line site, seriously?!?!?
I am still trying to decide re: getting another opinion re: chemo. When I lived in the Chicagoland area, I saw an oncologist at Lutheran General for unrelated gyn issues. I'm wondering if I should contact him. I really liked him at the time. I'm just not sure how to go about it and I don't want to rock the boat with my current MO. I don't have an appt with current MO until May 1. I have a feeling things will start moving very quickly at that point. If I get chemo, I will need a port, my veins are terrible.
Is it out if line to call MO and discuss or does it need to be in appt setting?

Lakegirl most people get 2nd opinions. It is actually recommended for anything major like chemo or even surgery. Nothing wrong with getting a 2nd opinion... which might just confirm what your current MO has planned. Also note medical science is not exact. There is more than one way to skin a cat. But I would recommend seeing an MO that focuses on Breast Cancer as their main specialty Ideally only specialty.
But don't wait on this. Typically they want you to do chemo 3-6 weeks post surgery in most cases. For 2nd opinions they do tend to fit you in.
As far as the port. I had one. Met the port surgeon one day... had it installed 5 days later (would have been sooner but there was a weekend involved). He wanted me to do chemo the same day as port installation but there wasn't an open chair. I did it the next day. Yes this will move very quickly.

Lakegirl1,
My chemo decision dragged on because the tissue wasn't sent from the lab to Oncotype testing. My MO was brand new to the hospital and didn't know his way around. That score was the determination of whether I had chemo or not. Are you getting the test done? It might be helpful to have your BS order a sample to be sent in because you are so far outside of surgery. You are ER+ so it is usually indicated if you are Grade 2, as I was. In the end I found out on Friday I needed chemo based on my Oncotype score, had a port installed on Monday, and chemo on Tuesday. All very fast.

I do have my Oncotype, it is 6. One thing that throws this off a little is that I did have a Staph infection. Therefore, there is a protocol you have to do for 5 days before they will install the Port. Antibiotic in your nose and under your fingernails...apparently, the most common locations to carry staph. Also, I have an allergy to the Hibiclens, used to cleanse the skin as part of the surgical prep...Difficult, right??? SERIOUSLY!!!
I just need some part of this to go as planned...I am SO over all of this!!!

If your oncotype is 6, I'd be very surprised if they said to get chemo, although maybe they would because of the 3cm. Mine was 2.8 cm and they were all guessing no chemo. My oncotype came in and when it came in, there was no question: Mine was 40~~!!!! They all thought I wouldn't need chemo at all and then it came in at that high score and broke my heart. But chemo has been doable so far; I am halfway done and #3 is this Thursday. We are here for you Lakegirl1! If you feel you want a second opinion, you should certainly get one. I even talked to two oncologists and, of course, given my score they both told me the same thing, but I felt I got a lot of knowledge out of talking with both of them. My MO wouldn't give me a port as I need only 4 treatments at this point, I have a PICC line.
lago, how was the seminar? I wish I had been able to go....

JMG58...Funny you mention PICC line, I just had mine pulled a week ago today. I had it for the surgery to replace the TE on the Staph infection side and the IV antibiotics. They told me that they were not able to use it for chemo as the vein was too small and it did not sit exactly where they wanted it. When I initially met with the MO, he said he didn't want to do the Port as only 4 chemos...however, since that time, the gen surgeon and PS both say the Port is a must...I just don't have the veins to handle the chemo.
Turns out, there must me something in the Tegaderm adhesive that I am allergictp also. I have redness right where the Tegaderm was for the PICC..., that was with the Skin Prep. What do they use when you are allergic to that?
0 -
Lakegirl, okay, I remember you talking about the PICC line now. Sorry, my mind is NOT what it used to be lately. My skin is also red under the plastic where the line goes in my arm. First round I took Kefflex or something like that and then Amoxicillin for the tooth I ended up having to get pulled and the redness all went away. Now she (home health care nurse) changed the bandage again and I just told my MO's nurse when I went in for fluids on Monday it's red again; itched like crazy once she cleaned it and put the dressing on. Maybe I am somewhat allergic to the bandage or cleaning agent! The PICC is a real pain in the $#(*@0 to have to flush every night. One of these nights I'm going to forget. Today little bubbles went in the line when I flushed and I stopped halfway...freaked me out. I should get paid for doing this stuff. Good luck; let us know what happens!!!

I know, right???? After dealing with that stupid thing...we should get hazard pay or something!! I was getting Vanco at 1st then Cefazolin. Good stuff...

Lakegirl1,
I too would be surprised if you had to do chemo with an Oncotype of 6, grade 2, and no lymph node involvement. It is not very effective against slow growing tumors. With a 6, you are at the point when on average chemo gives a worse outcome than no chemo. If you are very young, this might change the situation. My Oncotype was 30, so I needed chemo.

jmg58 it was actually well done. I felt for me though it was a bit after the fact. I would highly recommend it to those who are newly diagnosed or currently in treatment or living with cancer. One of the main speakers was an employment attorney.

Doxie...I am 43 and my daughters are 6 & 8. I'm thinking that may play into the recommendation. That info doesn't show up on the test results, but I would think it is a factor.
