    Chevy,

Not that you should be putting out money for anything where your neighbors are concerned, but you can get water buckets, shallow dishes etc. that if plugged in have a heating element in them.  Just enough to keep water from freezing, but not enough to heat the water in the container.  We have them.  We use and old one that Billy tried to chew up ( the underside inside element stayed good ) and we put the galvanized bucket in there ( you have to put some water in the first bucket as that is where all the heat will accumulate ) and then can set anything else inside.  Don't know if your neighbors have an electrical outlet available.

Saying it that way since if you did something like that....you could always take the water heater back to your house.  Those people sound like they might not know how to take care of the heated appliance.    It is just a thought.  I too would be mighty irritated.  They are so fortunate to have you "care " for the animals they seem in general to have a lack of regard for most of the time.  Oh well, hopefully they will be home soon and not go anywhere else this winter.  Sure hope they will see that the chickens get the fresh water they should have if the water freezes while they are home.  You know, I just sort of wish I hadn't thought  of that.

    Anyway got my fingers crossed.

    Jackie

They have one Jackie.... bought at a feed store.... It hangs up, and it has like nipples on the bottom for the chickens to drink from.... and a "heating element" inside.... but for some reason it isn't working...

They should be home tonight... but we are REALLY having a blizzad right now.... Hope their flight isn't delayed.... Might have to go over again in the morning if I don't see their lights on tonight....

Hah Jackie! She thinks I am a genius! No, just go along WITH her.... I feel kind of special! Loopy

Kaara, good to hear from you. Glad to hear all your good news especially with your eyes.

Sandra, so sorry to hear Mike's diagnosis but it's good that the doctor is optimistic. Prayers and hugs are with you.

Mommom, Naples is a great place. My MIL lives there and we visit often. Lots of good restaurants, beautiful beach and friendly people. Lots to do there. Another place we really enjoy is siesta keys in Sarasota. The beaches are beautiful. We walk or take the free rides (only pay by donations) by Johnny's service unless we want to leave the island. Great restaurants and shopping,

Ritajean, Hope you have excellent results from mammogram and tests. Have a safe trip.

Have not been on much this past week since I am fighting a sinus infection but still working everyday. By the time I get home I am ready to call it a night. I have never gone to bed this early before every night. Today is rainy, sleeting and a little snow. DH went out and said main roads are slow but ok but the side roads are not good. A good day to stay in, take down the tree, and clean house.

    Hi to everyone else.

Wishing everyone a happy new year

Caught up on reading all the posts.

Chevy, you are very clever in fixing the sweater but NOT in ordering it!!!!  LOL!  Right, Cammi?

Sandra, I'm optimistic that you and your dh will deal with this latest health challenge and go on many more cruises.  Smile

Jackie, I think about you quite often when I use my NutriBullet.  It has been a good purchase for me.  I use the grinding function as well as making smoothies.

Hi to everyone and hugs all around.

GENIUS???GENIUS???GENIUS??? Where the hell does it say anywhere in the history of time  if u take out of few threads and add some more fabric it makes u a GENIUS? Chevy come back down to earth, u have talent and are crafty (more ways than one) But let's be realistic, u r no genius--none, nign, nil nyet, just not going to happen anymore. No I'm not jealous that sweet Sandra said that but she was being kind not wise. Oh simple minded Chevy, if u want to believe it go ahead, we all know the truth, we all know I am the wise one oh grasshopper, but if u sleep better at night with u'r dream world of thinking Sandra is right then go ahead. Simple is as simple does.--but it doesn't change that I love u-dumbass. BTW even Carole agrees. she just says it nicer)

Sandra it's so strange to me when I first heard of the disease u'r DH has I thought where did this come from? But my mom, SIL and neice all got it around the same time. And it still confuses me.

Termite we are having the same weather now, get ready cuz my SIL said it's going to get super cold soon, so get bundled up.

Chevy just so u know when it gets really cold , u have to wear warmer clothes so u'r comfortable

Well my brother starts radiation tomorrow, still don't get what's going on, I think he does, but I think it's really not good at all. I don't get what they are going to target---They told him there are cells all over in his lung, organs and wherever---I always thought u had to have an exact target. Well they are doing this for pain, again this sounds bad to me and my sister.. Well we are waiting with everyone else.

OK ladies I'll close for now, see u all later.

SEE? There IS a first for everything! I can teach you how.... First you get two sticks, and rub them together.... never mind. No! YOU are the Grasshopper! I am the Queen Bee, and I am a genius.... Geez, that sounds so good.... I must write this down somewhere.... for all the world to see...!

Genius comes from the word geneology... or generic or gnomes.... one of those.... so just get used to it!

I'm so glad you posted little helpless one! That just made my day!

Okay, about your Brother.... DAMN! Can't things just go along smoothly for you? I'm so sorry.... and I know you are worried... I'm worried FOR you! Maybe they know what they are doing.... that's all you have right now.... Maybe he won't tell you, but can you talk to someone on his team?

I don't know much about radiation either, but they must! Did they say anything about his Liver? I know my SIL's Brother-in Law has "Carcinoid" something or other, and he gets treatments with radiation.... I'll try and find more info.... okay? xoxoxoxo

Cammie, I don't think your that far from genius-hood either.  I mean, I think that word you used --- nyet ----  is the Russian word for NO.  How many people would know that !!! I have to admit that I think everyone here are geniuses in one way or other.

Drat and double dang....I'm feeling so iffy about your brother as well.  I mean it does sound like the radiation is mainly being used for pain management, but if your not there to hear what the Dr. says, it is hard to know.  The fact is that often --- when Dh and I would be at the Dr.'s office --- and discuss what was said later, his impressions and related information would come out sounding so 'different' from what I felt I had heard.  Anytime we are not a "party" to the original conversations, and they must be repeated to us, there is room for emotions, and interpretations to end up all over through each person who is discussing it.  I mean -- if two people are listening to a Dr. at the same time, and come away each seeing it quite differently, then who can be sure.  I do hope with all my heart that this can be ok --- that more information can come that will help everyone deal well with what is happening.

A little sun tried to come out just now but I think it was a temporary gift.  Yesterday started out rainy and even when it wasn't raining there was a mist -- nearly as bad.  This winter so far has been the grayest one I've seen in a long time.  Almost like the wet gray weeks of winter in So. California when I lived there.  I keep saying I'm going to get some of those "light" bulbs, but when I'm out and about always forget to look for them.  Not sure what it will do today -- but it is due to get cooler, so I'm thinking the next thing that comes along will be snow.  Well, real cold -- not just cooler, and then snow.

I'm still nursing my back.  It is not as good as I would like -- but I take heart that it hasn't worsened.  So, I think I'm in that area where you have to just baby it for a while and it will finally come around.  Sure hope so.  It is tiresome not to bound around like I normally do.

    See you all later, then,

Happy Sunday and hi to all.

    Blessings,

    Jackie

Jackie.... you mean that Cammi actually used a word with a MEANING? Even if it was in Portugese or something? Ha!

Here I wanted to be geniuser than her.... or anyone! I worked hard it.... or at SOMEthing anyway..... It was that sweater!

Yes, we ALL have special qualities that the rest of us admire.... I love how you are so in-tune with "life"..... How you just accept what is going on, and instead of raising 6 kinds of billy-hell, you just figure out a way to go on...... Thinking that "oh well.... tomorrow is another day."

You just have a sixth sense about you.... and your friends, and employers know this! But I STILL want to be thinking of myself as genius-ly. Cammi can wait.

Wow --  we are trying to have a snow.  Thank goodness it is staying mostly sparse, but definitely it is snow.  Sort of wonder what it will look like tomorrow.  Well I can deal with it as long as there is no ice.  It always comes down to "something".  As long as we don't have this or that, or rain, or ice or too much gray and oh did I mention I hate plain white walls.

Laughing at how there has to be a complication that just makes un-pleasant things more than unpleasant and a whole lot closer to un-bearable.  If there were to be ice which I don't think there will be, I would just deal with it.  That is what women do -- they just deal with it.  Sigh!!!!Happy

Wow!  I'm on a thread with TWO geniuses and one is geniuser than the other!

Cammi, I know you're worried about your brother.  I hope his outlook is better than you fear it is.

I'm happy to say that I'm feeling pretty much back to normal and have recovered from the awful sinus/head congestion.  DH had gotten over the same ailment by the time I caught it.  Now he's getting it again.  I'm sympathetic but I hope he doesn't pass it off to me AGAIN.

I'm thinking about renting one of those carpet cleaning machines tomorrow and try cleaning the rug under our dining table.  It's either clean it or buy a new rug and I figured it was worth trying to clean it since I already have a big jug of the solution.  I'll try cleaning the bedroom carpet, too.  The next step, if this isn't a success, will be hiring a carpet cleaner.  I just hate the bother of having someone come to the house.

Hi to everyone.  Hope you all had a good Sunday.

HELP! I've posted in this "thread" before, but it's been awhile. Like most of you, I'm a "senior" & am having a great deal of difficulty navigating around on this huge website.  For instance, I wanted to start a "NEW" Topic today open to discussion & can't for the life of me figure out "how" to do that.  Can someone give me some direction?  I go for my tattoo markers on Tues. & want to ask other members w/ DCIS which radiation protocol they followed. My Dr. is recommending the "standard" 33 radiation treatments.  But, I've read stories where shorter time periods (such as 16 or even 25) have the same outcome & are just as effective as going through this for 7-1/2 weeks.  I'm normally pretty "tech savvy" for an "old lady" of almost 64, but I find this website terribly confusing.  Thanks in advance for ANYONE who can help me!

    MoJim,

I'm not tech savvy at all.  My suggestion would be to go up top of this page where there is a list of different items.  I never go there, but I'd think there would be in HELP that would address that very item.  " Starting new topics".    I also think the moderators are usually eager to assist anyone who is having issues and all you have to do is send them a pm ( private message ) and I'm sure they would feel you in -- even provide a link for you to read up on just how to accomplish what you want to do.

It seems like NEW things either jump right into my head or have to be pounded in by repeated blows with large hammer -- the very patient moderators have always been a huge help to me though it took a time or two, many tries.  I'm sure yours will be a much faster episode.

Hoping this is some help to you.  Also glad you are coming along in your treatments.  I hope you can get answers as well to your radiation questions.  I too have heard that some people can get by with less radiation.  I had the long treatment but did not mind going for that long.  I felt I had to do as much as I could to insure complete eradication of all problems.  So far so good.  I finished my treatments ( chemo and rads )  in April 2008.  I'm sure some Dr.'s feel like erring on the side of a little more rather than a little less just puts a bit more foundation there to hopefully eliminate any cancer cells and get you to NED.

    Blessings

    Sandra, Hugs to you.

I have been so overwhelmed with the holidays that I have not been posting. Took DGS to El Paso

and had lunch with his family at Cattle Baron. It is a great place to eat, a little pricy, but service is excellent. I always have the soup and salad bar, it is great. Did some shopping. It is a hard city to find your way around, getting better each time we go.

Our DD has had her second chemo last Mon. She seems to be doing pretty good. DH blood sugar has

been out of wack trying to get that tamed down so he can have his cataract surgery. We have had

lots of cold weather and ice and snow, its winter. The big bend area has 5000 customers out of elec.

some of the cell towers are down. We lucked out up here where we are.

    Hugs to all

Life is a refining process.  Our response to it determines whether we’ll be ground down or polished up.  On a piano, one person sits down and plays sonatas, while another merely bangs away at “Chopsticks.”  The piano is not responsible.  It’s how you touch the keys that makes the difference.  It’s how you play what life gives you that determines your joy and shine.

Sun outside today which I SURE appreciate.  That makes having to go out in really artic cold temps. much easier to confront.  I am really going to be "praying" for Spring soon.  This is a bit more typical of our 'winters' though.  We use to have one month of snow on and off, and one of cold.  Yesterday we had snow flurries which I did enjoy.  I sometimes don't like the cold, but I do enjoy a good snow fall.  It is poetically pretty to me and I sort of see it as a 'gift' for putting up with winter -- like you have any choice.

    momarch,

Hope things continue to go ok for you.  Sometimes it is one trial after the other, but nice when things sort of work out better.  Like my sun outside -- some things help us over the hump so we can keep going forward -- though it may be slower than we'd like.  Hope you continue to keep your power and you cell lines.

    Teka,

I thought of mommarch while I was reading her entry and looking at your picture right above it.  Snow was mentioned in her entry and I felt like I was looking at the 'lane' to her front door from the snow sleigh.  You can't look like that unless you are a "passenger".  Sort of great to have a nice experience like that while you are sitting in an office chair in front of a computer and reading.  Well, I love that picture.

Will be back some time later.  A few things to get done this morning but I'll hang around later on when things slow down.

    Blessings

    MoJim,

Go up into "Memberlist" in the blue up top of this page.  There will be a long bar and just type in the word Moderators in it.  It will then get you to their sign in for a pm to them.  They will be able to point you right to where you should go.  Good for not being tenacious.

    Blessings

    Hi everyone

Knew this thread was special from the first time I was on it - but didn't know we had geniuses, abd geniousers on it. Wow- I keep some pretty good company.

I think in my last post I was saying how I returned to Ga early in hopes of spending time with both my son and daughter on New Years but it wasn't going to work because my DD and DIL are both stubborn and couldn't work it out. Well, we didn't get to do New Years, but the day after, my son called asking me to look for a mattress for a pack and play if I happened to be near a baby store, so we would have it for whenever they could come over, which was maybe next weekend. He called about two hours later to see if I'd had any luck. I was telling him I had found one, but it wasn't exactly right. Then he asked me if I could do him a favor. When I asked what, he said "open the garage door". They were here! It was wonderful. My DD didn't have a second to stress about the house not being clean, or feeding them or anything. We all had a great time for two days. The baby, Lucia, is cuter than any child has a right to be, and she fell head over heels in love with her almost 13 year old cousin. She just beamed anytime he came near her, and when we went to the mall, then out to dinner, she had to hold his hand, would only get in the stroller if Andrew pushed it, and had to sit next to him at dinner. She made this all very clear with her very limited vocabulary. She points and gestures with great authority. Here are 2 pix from the weekend:

MoJim: you haven't included in your diagnosis summary whether you are estrogen positive or not. I had the 3 week radiation, and when my radiologist explained it to me he said it was the Canadian model. I got a higher dose with each treatment. Some of the criteria to qualify for the shorter program: small tumor, clean nodes, post menopause, estrogen positive tumor, and more effective with smaller breasts.

The best thing about this very minute is your ability to recognize the possibilities in it.  Any fool can count the seeds in an apple.  But only God can count the apples in a seed.  There is something in every problem that holds potential for something better.  Do you want a lifetime of happy right nows?  The little choice this moment to see the beauty in what appears ugly, frustrating, or disgraceful will change everything.

    Good Morning,

Might I say bbrrrr.  Well, it is ok right at the moment but a further part of the cold snap is coming.  Tomorrow night with wind chill will be about 20 below here.  Not sure just when it was last like that.  Of course, I'm not planning on going out -- just feel for those who work at night -- anywhere.  My thoughts and care will surely be with them.  Will be great when this passes.  Well, looking at the week's forecast, it will be with us for a few days.

Had sun yesterday -- and I was loving it.  Finally went looking for those special "bulbs" and they are all sold out.  So.....wouldn't you know, today is starting out gray.  At least it is light gray so the sun could sneak out from under the cloud cover for a while.  Sure hope it does.

Going walking today for a bit at the Rec Center.  Well, I'm back on my eating plan and all that.  The recent holidays were great and I allowed myself to indulge plenty but now it is back down to business.  Hopefully will get the back good enough to give a bit more energy into the walking at least.  I can I think as well do the recumbent bikes in the gym.  It's always something to struggle with, but it does make you stronger.  Looking for good things.

    Blessings,

    Jackie

Well, we made it to sunny Florida and I feel guilty even telling you how nice it is out today after looking at the weather channel and seeing what some of you are facing this week....especially those in the home area. I spent the morning around the pool while Dave worked on the boat to get it into the water. I think it was the first time I really relaxed since we left. We drove much of the way in pouring rain. Whew! I was glad to get here.

As soon as he gets ready, we are going to run a few errands and then put the boat into the canal and take a boat ride down the canal to a connected lake and check it out. We're hoping it will be a good place for freshwater fishing and tubing when the grandkids come down in February.

I have no results yet from my tests yet. Many of the technicians at Susan G. Komen were out sick with the flu so none of us got same day results as usual. I debated about leaving that night (which we did to get ahead of the ice and snow that was supposed to come into Illinois on Saturday) but I decided I might be waiting several days for results so we just took off. Hope it was a good decision. So far I have had no phone calls so maybe "no news is good news."

I haven't read all the posts that I've missed but was thrilled to see a post from Kaara and to hear that all is going well! YAY!

Now that we are settled in to some extent, I will check in more often. If you are in the cold, snowy areas..............stay warm and be safe.

Hugs to all of you. More later.
