Interesting about SF, Dara. There are two other famous “breast cancer clusters” in the US: one centered around Commack in NE Suffolk County of Long Island, but they can’t seem to find any common causal threads; the other is on the SE side of Chicago in the Hyde Park neighborhood (I live on the far N. side); and most of its bc sufferers lived there during the development of the Manhattan Project (WWII atomic bomb) on the neighborhood’s Univ. of Chicago campus.

Carefully observe the natural laws in operation in the world around
you, and live by them. From following them, you will learn the morality
of modesty, moderation, compassion, and consideration (not just one
society's rules and regulations), the wisdom of seeing things as they
are (not of merely collecting "facts" about them), and the happiness of
being in harmony with the Way (which has nothing to do with self-
righteous "spiritual" obsessions and fanaticism). And you will live
    lightly, spontaneously, and effortlessly.

Can someone explain how these forums work? I' seeing the thread to this forum is now starting over. After so many posts, does it cut off, or does the originator delete?

Haven't been here in a while b/c for some reason I no longer get the emails from my favorite lists. Soooo, now I have a question. I just read an article about Melatonin enhancing Tamoxifen effects. Is there anyone here taking Melatonin & how many mg.? I have been on Tamoxifen for 5 1/2 yrs. and starting to have multiple issues.

Hope everyone is enjoying summer. Just got back from Branson, MO but it just about did me in with a grandson & 2 dogs. Don't know what I would have done w/o DH.

Thank you for any help you can send my way about the melatonin.

NormaJean, Go up to the top of the page and make sure that click on the bar that says to put this forum/thread in your favorites. I don't know anything about Melatonin or Tamoxifen, but I know some of the ladies here are familiar. Hopefully they will show up soon.

I take 5 mg Melatonin at bedtime, but more to regularize my body's instinct to sleep. My MO says it's fine, though the doc who led the cancer survivorship symposium a couple of weeks ago said she wouldn't recommend it (but failed to say why).

Never been to Branson. Musically, it just doesn’t float my boat. (My singing partner originally thought we should try to get booked in or near there, but after having read the list of the performers who play there, has admitted we are definitely not a Branson act, despite his fondness for vaudeville). My idea of a great musical vacation would be Kerrville (but not camping), or spending a few days along VA's Crooked Road, taking in the old-time trad and bluegrass jams....or maybe a season pass to Ravinia (with a 2-month Metra pass so we could indulge while picnicking on the lawn without worrying about driving home).

Thanks IllinoisLady but I did that a long time ago. But the really strange thing is that I cannot change any info on my profile by clicking on the edit button, putting in new info (like new email addy) then when I click on save it just sits there staring at me. Dang it!!! I have numerous emails from this website tech support but nothing changes. So frustrated and missing my updates via email.

I'm sorry Norma. I really should have known since I am not at all computer savvy and have had many struggles myself. Occasionally something from my favorites disappear. Last time I just asked the mods and they re-sent me a link so I could put it back in my favorites. I think I'm likely fortunate and though I can't get direct help for this blog --- I'm so bad at the computer that I pay Microsoft so their "experts" can take control of my computer and get it running correctly for me after I've done who knows what and how to it.

    Morning everyone,

Beautiful and bright outside right now, but there are storms around us. It is going to be hot, hot, hot today and heat index will get us to 107 I think. Well, that is not going to be fun at all. I'm nervous that in this month when we usually have weather that can feel almost chilly at times, that it is going to be so hot. I do recall two or three ( I think maybe 3 now ) yrs. ago when triple digit temps. started in June and did not let up until Sept. So, have my fingers crossed that this won't continue on this time.

Otherwise I'm going to have one of 'those' days though it won't be bad, just a little busy. My employers have a day full of appts. so I will be seeing after the house pets along with my patient --- sort of going back and forth as I did while they were gone before during graduations. That's ok for me as I had to take off Monday to have a mammogram.

I await the mail notification, but a little question I posed to the tech seem to indicate to me that all seemed fine. They are set up there to do follow through right then should something turn up so I sort of have a decent feeling going on but it is always a relief to see proof positive of the Radiologists' findings. So hope goes forward. I'll be busy enough the next couple of days I'll likely forget about it and wonder why I'm getting the 'strange' piece of mail when it comes.

Hope you all are going to have a very pleasant day.

    Mornin all,

There is no rest for the weary! But it is all good. Mon was our first free night. My brother and I took our showers before dinner and settled down for a calm, quiet night. Not more than 10 minutes after we ate, I got a text from my son- his wife's water had broken, and they were on their way to the hospital. Since Anna's mother chose to stay home with Lucia, I got redressed and headed for the hospital- this was about 7:15.

Julianna Marie made her debut at 10:51. She weighed 7lbs15oz and is 19 1/2 inches long and looks just like her big sister, except she has a lot of dark hair. Like her sister, she is not taking to breast feeding. Anna feels she gave in too quickly with Lu and doesn't want Julianna to get used to a bottle, so they spoon fed her yesterday. Anne pumped breast milk for Lu for 18 months, and really doesn't want to pump 24/7 again. Julianna has a little bit of fluid in her lungs so they are working to get her to either swallow it or burp it up.

We are all in awe of Anna. We were so afraid she would go the day of the wedding and Rob was equally worried she would go during the first day of camp Monday. Being the submissive, obedient wife that she is (not), Rob walked in from camp Mon, and before he could sit down to dinner, her water broke and she went into strong contractions immediately. God bless those epidurals!! If Juli's birth ain't enough of a joy, Lu came here for her nap yesterday. First time I have really had her on my own, even if she was asleep for most of it. She went to sleep with no problem, given it was her first time. AND my brother is the first person other than her parents, to drive her anywhere. On our way to take her back to Daddy, she said she wanted to go back to my house. I said, of course, maybe tomorrow, and with all of her 3 year old authority, said "Grandma, do you have you phone? Just call Daddy and tell him we go back to you house.

    Beautiful pictures, Anne. Happy

I haven't been on in awhile as using the 'puter too much can get my arm aching. Anyway, I hope everyone is doing well. I've been struggling with pain in my hip, which just sucks. I love to walk and lately it hurts to walk across the room. Acupuncture is helping somewhat and Tylenol is my friend. Unfortunately I'm allergic to NSAIDS. My Dr prescribed gabapentin (sp) for me, but after reading about it I decided that I didn't want to put it in my body. So I'm relying on acupuncture and massage right now. Things are improving somewhat, but I miss effortless movement. Old age just plain sucks.

We are all flowers in the Great Spirit's garden. We share a common root, and the root is Mother Earth. The garden is beautiful because it has different colors in it, and those colors represent different traditions and cultural backgrounds.

Just as gardeners cultivate their plots, keeping them free
from weeds, and growing the flowers and fruits which
they require, so may a person tend the garden of his or her
mind, weeding out all the wrong, useless, and impure
thoughts, and cultivating toward perfection the flowers and
fruits of right, useful, and pure thoughts. By pursuing this
process, a person sooner or later discovers that he or she is the master-gardener of his or her soul, the director of his or her life.

    Morning,

Sure was hot yesterday and likely will be again today. I got my hair cut so that should help me so much. I had a number of things to do outside yesterday, one of which was to clean out the back of my car and put a blanket in after seats were folded down so I could put Bill ( black Labrador Reliever ) and take him to the groomer's and get him his yearly hair removal. Too hot for everyone outside.

Certainly hoping that this is just a "patch" of heat and that we will go back to a more even weather pattern. Weather man says rain -- here is one time when I'm anxiously awaiting it -- gray color and all.

Hope you are all doing well and not suffering from weather issues. It has been so quiet here the past couple of days. Made me think of Mimi, our clown. Hope she is doing well too.

As always, you are all on my mind and I'm wishing good things.

    Morning all,

First, welcome to aNy newbies I might have missed in the last little while.

Sandra- prayers and hugs to you and Mike

I am a person of extremes. I went from total chaos (all good stuff) to total quiet overnight. My brother left, no grandkids came by, I cooked a simple dinner last night, and my DD and I started catching up on TV last night. Quite a change. I just wish there was a happy medium for me.

There is such an unnecessary battle going on here. Anna and her Mom have no idea how to handle a three year old. They basically chase her all day to stop her from whatever she is doing. They don't really offer her anything to keep her busy. Rob says she has some baby dolls, stuffed animals, and her Disney characters there. Rob & I have no behavior problems with her because we don't accept them, and we also engage her with stuff she likes. Even more, my house is full of toys- a real dollhouse, all the pretend food and dishes she could possibly want, play dough, coloring books, a doll carriage, etc, etc, etc. I did not run out and buy all this, it is just here, some of it I bought for Michael, 17 years ago. But Anna insists that they stay at her mom's villa, which is maybe 900 ft total. It is the perfect place for her mom and her little dog, but it does not fit 3 adults, a toddler, a newborn and two dogs. My house has 5 bedrooms, a family room, a huge backyard and is child friendly. But Anna is jealous that Lu loves being with Grandma and doesn't break down into hysterics because she misses her mom. The truth is, the two afternoons I had her, she didn't even ask where Mommy or a Daddy were, and when I told her it was time to go back to Daddy, she didn't want to go. Today, she is allowing me to come by once Lu is down for her nap. Rob told her last night that I had driven Lu back to Rob both afternoons and she was furious with him. He says "Oh well- that's her issue, not mine" She won't allow anyone except herself and Rob drive with Lu in the car.

Life may be non-chaotic for a while, but there's always something brewing somewhere.

    Anne

Lu's Mom and Mom's mother have a lot of patience to run after a wee one to put NO uppermost on every list that comes by. Makes me wonder what kind of person the little one will actually be ! All no's just doesn't sound like much of a life for anyone. Lu might end up feeling a lot of freedom at school --- I do think there are teachers who appreciate some personal creativity and hopefully some of Lu's can come out there.

This driving issue is strange and you likely said at some point and I've forgotten -- how did Lu's mother get so terrifically over-protective. I'd secretly be looking for the biggest mud puddle I could find to enjoy with Lu, I think.

Enjoy your non-chaotic time right now. Your right -- it is only that lull between storms.

    Hi ladies,

Welcome to all the new ladies

Anne, beautiful wedding pictures and pictures of your grandchildren. congratulations on the new one

I beginning to know how you feel Anne with turmoil going on. We left back home earlier than planned and I missed my gd program cuz we were still driving home from watching our other sons children due to the fact that his wife is out of the country and he still had to work early in the morning and the kids had school. It was their last day sowe spent the night before to be able to get them off to school. We waited for them to get Ythat we were still on the interstate driving back to our sons and that we probably would not make it in time for the program. Also told them we would be leaving early in the morning to beat the storms that were suppose to hitting here and on the way down here. I called him later in the evening since I was not able to get home and ready in time to drive more than a 1/2 hour  or more back to the program without being very late for it. Well, He has not answered any of my phone calls or text for the last 2 weeks.  Sent a card with money money in it to our dgd but have not heard about that either. We are suppose to go back in July for a get together at their house over the 4th with all of our kids. the one from PA will be there also. We would be staying at another sons house. We have not heard anything since we left in june about it or the birthday party they were going to have for their youngest while everyone was there. Not sure what to do????? Thanks for letting blow off steam.

Have not been on for a while since we did not have the internets so no tv, no computer except when we could get on with our hot spot. Comcast finally got a signal and hooked us up. Yay!!!

    Have a great weekend

Termite, sure good to hear from you, but sorry that you too have some family issues. I hope much is only due to people being super busy though in general I do think you should be able to get in a call to your family. Maybe if they are used to computer type communications things will get better now that you have yours in working order. I sure hope so. It is always something and I sure hope everything gets to a better point.

Today here was not so horribly hot, and I'm sure glad of that. I'm really hoping this backs off and that whenever ( if it actually comes ) we get our rain that it is more than just a brief little squall. If we have something too small we will have high temps afterward and un-believable humidity and I sure don't want that, especially this early. Got my fingers crossed.

Hi ladies, Been visiting every day, just not posting. Beautiful week the last few days here.Guess it will be back to hot and humid by Sunday. Had a dr. appt yesterday for my IBS, which seems to be better on the gluten free diet, so don't need to go back til next year! Spent the day at the urgicare with DH. he about passed out on the back deck last night, I didn't hear him til he managed to get back in the kitchen and call for help. Then when he got up during the night I had to catch him to keep him from hitting the floor He also had trouble getting back in bed. took his BP, which was OK, but it was really scary. Spent the day at urgicare , they didnt find anything also did a Head CT, lab work etc had us see the cardiologist , who decreased one BP medication, so o one really knows what caused his extreme weakness. He said it was like someone turned his switch off and nothing worked. It was both sides, not one, as is usual for strokes. So just praying it doesn't happen again. Last month we cancelled a trip as he was dealing with a kidney stone. Can't seem to win, growing old is such fun!

Know the family issues picture. DH son hasn't spoken to him for 4 years, didn't even come to the hospital when he had open heart surgery. Got mad when we asked him to remove his junk from our property. Had to take im to court, still hasn't gotten rid of all of it , and we don't see the grand sons or get invited to graduations. Jean

So sorry about your DH, Jean. Sounds a lot like orthostatic hypotension, which can happen to older people if medication overcorrects their BP (or if they take or eat something that “potentiates” it, i.e., increases blood levels of it or makes it act too strongly--a notable example is grapefruit, especially juice, interacting with the angiotensin-reactor-blocker, aka ARB, type of BP meds...and some ACE inhibitor ones as well). Could also be dehydration or hypoglycemia. Or might be viral.

Sandy thanks for the info.I had thought of orthostatic hypotension, as he is often dizzy after he stands up from his recliner. Cardio cut back on his Cozar, had done that before, then upped it. his BP had been pretty stable , is often iirratic, he's on a combo of bp drugs. I took it last night and it was 124/63. When they took it at urgicare it was lower when he was standing. It's the first time this has happened. they did suggest dehydration, I have to keep after him to drink anything. the only juice he drinks is OJ in the morning. he went from borderline diabetic to diabetic this year, takes an oral drug for that. Also said his stomach was bothering him yesterday, had a 100.3 fever, , has complained of nausea and barffed once today, but no temp.

Hmmmm.....Cozaar is an ARB. (I used to take the combo form, Hyzaar, that has the potassium-sparing diuretic HCTZ; now I take Benicar, another ARB/HCTZ that works best for me). OJ, though it’s also citrus, lacks the enzyme that makes grapefruit play such havoc (potentiates BP meds and antihistamines, impairs letrozole’s AI enzyme pathway) with drugs. Could it be an interaction between his Cozaar, another BP med and/or oral diabetic med? Might he also have a touch of mild food poisoning? (Usually doesn’t include a fever the way a norovirus would, but just the stress could raise body temp). Most “stomach viruses” turn out to be foodborne illnesses. Most people’s BP will be highest lying down and lowest standing up, and standing too rapidly from a sitting position (or going straight from reclining or lying down to standing) can cause a very rapid drop and even fainting. But it’s a classic symptom of hypoglycemia (too strong a diabetes med, or one of his BP drugs potentiating it?) and/or dehydration.
