Ducky, I was given an orchid while I was in chemo in 2014 and have gotten mine to rebloom every year. After it's done blooming I repot it using the special orchid potting mix. I have it in a plastic container that has holes in the bottom that I set into a decorative pot in a south window. Once a week I lift the plastic pot out of the decorative pot and set it into my dishpan that has about 2" of water for 5 minutes and then return it to the decorative pot. Then I place 2 ice cubes on top of the soil and let them melt down. Then I use a soft cloth and wipe the dust off the leaves. Mine has continued to bloom in its original color.

Puffin, You definitely have a magic orchid thumb. We have only had one rebloom - but it was the one that smells like chocolate.

Yes Sandy.... I have one of those also.... AND a hat.... Hah! I'll use it on the higher part of the garage walls....
And using a roller & pan is pretty easy.... The thing is............ I just do a little at a time... Same with yard work....At least my shoulder isn't sore this morning.... So I must not have done enough...

Dh had to cancel the cataract surgery he was to have Thurs, due to the cold from hell we have both been battling. Boy I'm tired of coughing. He's re-scheduled for June 22. His 80th Bday is the 21st. Guess the surgery is his Bday present! Raining here, supposed to get a soaking. Need to get the grass cut, lawn guys have to wait til the rain lets up.

Shuf, great to see you. Glad you stopped in to say hi. Sometimes it gets a bit quiet her --- you know, people get busy and since I put quotes ( in more than one place ) I'm always around -- even if it can be a little lonesome. I hope you are doing things that you like and enjoying life. We have had nice sunshine and warm days --- something that always fills me with hope and inspirations. Yesterday was due to be sort of hot but there was such a nice breeze I wasn't at all affected.
Have been working in my kitty screen/all seasons room. Had a new rood put into place. Three of the cats would not come inside the house. I was worried but they seem to have recovered from the upheaval and noise, dirt and destruction -- all that pounding. They hit -- I have cat towers -- the kind with holes you can go into --- but still I felt for them and worried they be paranoid or schizoid afterwards, but back to normal, thank goodness.

Heavy wet snow here today so decided it was a good day for indoor projects. I indexed 9 more of Lew's videotapes (only 56 left in this batch) - wide range of years from grandkids crawling across the carpet and sitting in high chairs who are now 18 years old, to our trips to Alaska, Australia and Panama.
Been sitting too long, time to get up and move around and stretch.

Hit 85 today before it began cooling off. Only a stiff breeze kept it feeling pleasant. The heavens are set to open up tonight, with flood warnings. Good thing I haven’t bought my herb & tomato plants yet. The landscapers are set to start for the season tomorrow, with Sat. as rain date. Good thing—my backyard is getting really scruffy with magnolia petals everywhere. And there’s some unidentified weed tree (not a sumac or ailanthus) that has sprung up within my grapevines & berry canes. Hope it’s not harmful. If it’s a black walnut, it’s gotta go, because those suck the nutrients out of the soil and starve adjacent edible plants.

Poured rain here a couple times late after -- well, serious leak in the new roof. He will come and take care of it soon as we have some dry time. Rats -- was so hoping that we wouldn't have a leak. Oh well -- at least only one place and it will be taken care of -- we could be back where we were so it will be right soon enough.

Wow !!! We had quite the rain storm late yesterday afternoon --- and lots of rain after the initial long pour down. Have been late starting my day as I had to fast in order to go to Mt. Vernon and have pre-testing done so I could get my physical on May 4th. Hopefully ( I sure expect it ) all will be well. I've ( as usual for me ) felt fine and have been getting a fair amt. done around here. Some time afterward I will have to have my yearly mammogram. Likely he will want me to do a colonoscopy --- and maybe I will do one. I've not actually had one since my dx. in 2007 --- and I do know if things are fine they hopefully would quit making the demand for three yrs. or so. That would be nice. So, I'm crossing my fingers now but I do feel all will be quite fine.
Later on in the month of May, I will be dog sitting for my former employees. Good for me. Not having an extra income has been though not impossible a mite thinnish for spreading funds around where they need to go. I've made some adjustments and so far we are okay, but most depends on nothing too much happening.
We are going ( drat ) to have several more days of rain. Boo -- but as you know it is not so much the rain but the gray and dampness that come with it. Still, it is okay since I have some lights that mimic the sun ( a sweet and kind-hearted member had extra from here that she sent to me ) and so it is not as dreadful as it once was to me. Hope she knows I thank her with my whole heart every time I turn them on.
Just now getting my breakfast done ( 1 p.m. ) since I had to go without eating for the blood tests.
I hope you are all going to have a fantastic day with as little bad weather as possible. We are doing okay ( very fine mist ) rain-wise, but I think will come tonight.

Got really chilly again, rained like crazy last night and will again starting tomorrow and for most of the next week. The gardening service began its new season of weekly visits today, and their new crew (who apparently doesn’t know one plant from the other, how to wield anything other than a lawnmower and—halfheartedly—a leaf blower) came through and without even knocking on our door to say hi (in ANY language, never mind English) and ask what we wanted done (or warn what they were about to do) mowed down all my berry canes (already in leaf) and herb plants…and left all the dead leaves, locust bean pods from the neighbor’s tree, and even some litter that had accumulated since the first snowfall. Thank God I’ll be planting basil and tomatoes in pots on my deck, or they’d have mowed them down too.
We apparently paid them $1200 in advance to ruin our backyard. (I wrote down what I wanted done and not done on the contract I faxed back with my payment info). Our backyard now looks like a bad haircut (and the one thing they didn’t mow well was the lawn)!!!

Good for you Sandy. We lived too long and come too far and paid and paid. I'm all for if people can't follow directions, use at least some common sense, though I know sometimes there might still be matters where people's common sense is just a mite different --- then it is fitting to demand things be made right while you look at other possibilities.
Dh and I are sort of in the same general place over how our screen roof was done. There was no insulation and when I asked -- I was told, well, there wasn't any before. That is true, but it was sheets of heavy plastic fiber ( forget what it is called ) and they were not heat producing like metal -- so insulation wasn't a must then. For what we paid -- we thought a person would know to include insulation. So I told the guy --- nicely but in a definite way -- I did not take these cats in off the street, spend most of my social security for supplies, medicine, vet trips, and the like only to roast them with a heat producing roof after all this time. That should have been evident -- so while we both mis-understood I feel cheated. I will now have to figure out how to get insulation, pay for it, and put it up myself. A project that was not included in my plans for the year.

They mowed us for the first time today also! They don't stop to check on anything, either. I finally stood out on the porch to get their attention as we wanted the river rock bed blown, Next week, as they didn't realize the grass had gotten so tall. I figured they might bale it! Have a number of bird nests this year, DH let the exterminator know where they are. We have it done monthly , living in a log house we continually battle the carpenter ants and woodpeckers! Also have a number of deer, I gave up on a garden , between the deer and the woodchucks, they win!

When I had my shore house I had a sprinkler system front and back of the house.....very expensive system, but kept the lawn looking gorgeous, especially back where the pool was....it was like sleeping on a mattress if you laid down in it.......well my lawn guy would every season mow my sprinkler heads right off, never checking to see if they were completely ground level when he began running his big machine like a fool...........after a couple of big bills to have them replaced I began deducting the cost of replacing them from his monthly bill that I would get........he soon realized it was more profitable to be careful then to just ride around like a fool.............it worked...and no more chopped off sprinkler heads.......

YOU GUYS are all having those dang problems! And it is MY consensus that the only way it gets done right, is if we do it ourselves.... I mean painting, and lawn work! MAN Sandy, I would have throttled those guys! And you too Ducky!
I know it's hard getting the leaves & pine-needles & sticks out of the beds, but I just do it with a little rake, and then throw it all out, or put it in my mulch barrel! I know the tree seeds come up, but those are easy to pick out when they come up...
It's only 30 here this morning! And supposed to get rain & snow tonight.... I still cover my tomato plants, etc. every night.... But they are doing okay..... so far.....
I KNOW it is too early, but I just can't seem to wait! ....... Aw geez.... 8 to 15 inches they say!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are only getting 3 to 7 inches here..... "ONLY"..... Hah!

My yard man is Dh and he does a good job. For many years I mowed the lawn myself when he worked an offshore schedule, 14 days at work and 14 days at home. Our property is 2 acres so there is quite a bit of mowing. He has a large zero turn mower.
I have pruning to do this morning. Maybe an hour outside.
Jackie, that's annoying that you have to spend more money on the roof. Is this a room attached to the house?

Yes Jackie... I would be mad too............ Just can't find good help, and even THEY overcharge! It would just be nice if we had family members to help out once in awhile...
We have good neighbors, that will shovel the front walk when they do theirs.... that's if DH hasn't already shoveled it.... He thinks he has to shovel, no matter what! I help do the back & patio, by mostly just pushing it, when it is too deep.... Our back garden is there, and I love to make sure it gets all the water from the snow....
Carole, you DO have a lot of property! I would go crazy, figuring out what to do & plant with all of that "yard!"
Sunny here now, but the storm is coming they say.... If I can just talk DH into mowing the lawn this afternoon, instead of waiting 2-3 more days.... It is already long.... but George of the Jungle just always wants to "wait".... I would LOVE to mow the yard, but he seems to think that is HIS mower, even though he works on his own schedule.... Hah! He doesn't want to mow, but he doesn't want anyone else to do it either.... I would think he would want to have a lawn service do it.. .... The lawn area isn't very big.... oh well..
I think I will take the mower out of the garage, then when he comes back from seeing his buddies, he will SEE the mower, and either YELL, or mow the yard....
