Wren - I want to see!!!! I'm painting a Devon Rex kitten (belongs to a FB friend in Austria) in my oil painting class. This is a pretty rigorous oil painting class, so we start with a grid to transfer drawing from the photo, then do an underpainting before applying color. This is my underpainting in progress . Meet Pied Piper :)

Wren ~ Painting cats! Yes, capturing them while moving would be ever so difficult and oh so messy..... paint everywhere! lol.....(wiping tears from eyes) 😸

Feline ~ Awe.... that would be the best work day ever! Except for me.... my kitty bites 😿

Quinn ~ Neat! He'll be so handsome after you add his fur!

Ruth ~ So touching that you were given a remembrance plaque for Oreo. And so lovely to be laid to rest near his loved ones.....and a hamster :)

I'm sure Henry being a manly cat is just keeping his emotions to himself.

Your hamster brought back a cute memory.... So long ago it was, my kids and the neighborhood kids were all fairly close in age and all great friends. The brothers next door were about four and five when their beloved pet hamster suddenly passed away. It was devastating to all. Their daddy was a big strong Marine (and a great big softy). He comforted the boys and then planned a funeral. A little box was lovingly prepared and a moving backyard service was held. All the neighborhood kids attended dressed in their Sunday best. Daddy gave a sermon, the loved ones of the deceased said a few words.....so serious. Daddy buried the little coffin under a tree and the brothers made a little cross marker. Sad but oh so sweet. A year or so later the family moved away. The remaining neighborhood kids would "tend to the grave" for many years after.

Even the littlest of pets touch our lives and teach us big lessons about love and compassion 💜

FeelingFeline: much amused snickering at your 'first and last take your cat to work day' cartoon.

cowgirl13 and feelinfine - Mandy Cat is all white like little Dixie. Dixie is a Maltese/poodle. Mandy has three pounds and eight years on Dixie. Earlier this summer I thought Mandy was heading to that great catnip field in the sky, but she's rebounded and doing well on a special diet

Shepkitty - Thankfully Devons have no fur at this age....more like suede :) I'm not sure I'm ready to tackle painting fur.

This is a for real Devon. Auntie to the one I'm painting. An extreme form of the breed.

ok ladies, need a little help here. had a 4-5 week old show up on our doorstep. went to vet & got bottle( can't get anything thru it!) & milk replacement. best way to feed it? used several needles trying to open nipple up, nothing. Vets are closed. How often & how much should I feed it? Appreciate any help. Thanks Fran

use an eye dropper if the bottle won't work. Feed ever two to 3 hours, just like a newborn baby. Also need to wipe its bottom with damp warm Kleenex for the next couple of weeks. They don't go naturally on their own for several weeks. Mom cats are always licking their young. Look it up on utube! Your kitten might be old enough you won't need to do this much. Do you have a pet store close by? They can help. My GD raised a cat from 1 day old. He's now 8. They are very close!! And good luck.

70charger, Glad you found a rescue. It's not an easy skill to pick up without 1:1 instruction. Lots to learn and remember.

Wren, I'm glad too. I knew it was best for the little guy to go to someone more experienced.image

KB70, Sorry for your loss. It's a shame their lives are so short. They sure leave a hole when they leave.

This is a great big thank you to everyone posting here - especially those who posted pix. I spent the entire day yesterday browsing and looking at all your precious feline friends. I lost my cat last week. She was a beautiful, totally black petite little girl. Not sure how old she was, got her from a shelter and they thought she was anywhere from 6 to 8 or so. We had her for 9 years so she was getting up there. She started losing weight recently (went from 10 lbs to 6 rapidly) and had a few episodes of her legs giving out on her and falling down. Vet found a lump and, well, we all know what that means. I could tell she was having pain and didn't want her to suffer just because I couldn't let go. Missing my friend, chemo buddy and all around spoiled little brat!!

Your posts and pix have helped me get through a difficult time. Thanks so much.

I am so sorry KayaRose. We do know how you feel. Heart

I was talking to a casual acquaintance after exercise class last night. Her beloved dog had just died & of course, I had recently lost Oreo. So there we were standing in the hallway of the gym crying our eyes out and hugging. Only fellow pet-people get it!

KayaRose - so sorry. Losing a dear companion is heartbreaking. I found that getting a new friend really helped me (and my other cat). It took more than few months to feel ready though. The pain will lesson.Heart

    Thanks Ruthbru and QuinCat.

Ruthbru, sorry for your loss, too. I've lost a dear cousin and a beloved brother in law in the last few months. I feel almost embarrassed to get teary eyed over a cat. Maybe she was the proverbial straw that broke my back. Tears just keep coming.

QuinCat, I'd love to get another kitty but right now isn't a good time. We have a possible move to another state coming up and things are a little unsettled. I'm thinking of volunteering at the shelter just to get my dose of kitty love.

    Again, thanks for understanding.

KayaRose, My counseling professor said animals are harder than people because there was no negative in the relationship. People, especially relatives, are not always on your side. Volunteering for a shelter is a great idea. I do and I love doing it.

Wow Wren44 - that has been my experience, but I thought it was because I had not lost a close human since losing my mother (which was very hard). I felt guilty for talking about my grief, and likewise, others didn't really acknowledge it in the way I was feeling it when I lost my sweet Ms Boo in 2013.

KayaRose I think one thing that makes it extra hard is because everyone knows that if you have lost a member of your family it is socially accepted that you are bereaved and grieving. There is some support, whether it is people coming to the funeral or turning up with gifts of food. You can talk about the lost loved one, and reasonable people will understand why you need to do this, If you have lost an animal member of your household you have to carry on in grief with less support. Hugs. XXX

Our shelter has a Pet Loss Support Group that meets weekly to provide a place for people to mourn their loss with others who totally understand. Very moving to watch the support.

Good advice from everyone. It's really appreciated. I just made a donation to the shelter in memory of my kitty. It made me feel good knowing it will help another little cutie find a home. My vet's office sent a beautiful sympathy card that the whole staff signed. It does make a difference when others understand the loss. Now I think I will watch a few funny cat videos and try to cheer myself up a bit. Love those cat videos.
