Retreatment with same chemo drugs

Has anyone had or know of a patient with metastatic cancer who has been retreated with the same chemo drugs after three have been tried and failed over course of two years. Research in year 2000 indicated some success, but the drugs used were different to one used now. The theory is the body/tumour gets used to a chemo drug and stops being effective, but if retried a year or two later it can work again for a time.
