Hi - I'm not even sure what to ask here. I haven't even been to see my specialist yet. Can someone please tell me the pros/cons of reconstruction (implants/flap/going flat)? I'm curious about all three. Thank you!

    boobug,

Sorry that you find yourself here. Have you checked out the reconstruction threads? There is a wealth of feedback and info from those in your position as well as those who have already gone through it. I hope you find it helpful. Take care

    Hi

For me, I just went flat, as I didn't feel to spend any more time in the hospital, have more total anesthesia, operation, etc...also i heard some stories in the hospital of other womens told me they had many operations due to rejection of protesys...and I didn't feel to go thru it. All though it is not a big percentage, somebody did fine...

Many people go to reconstruction without too many side effects...but i didn't feel to take the risk.

I think it really depend on how you feel about it. I feel very comfortable been flat, as i almost prefer it 😅.

Other women may can't accept it.

Both ways i wish you good luck and good results.

Hi @boobug ! I had a double mastectomy in May. I am currently flat, sporting floobs whenever I go out of the house. Just last week I had a consult with a plastic surgeon about reconstruction. He told me I am not a candidate for implants. Radiation changes your skin and the failure rate for implants is something like 50%. I had 5 weeks of radiation. We discussed DIEP flap procedure which is basically taking skin and fat from your abdomen and making new boobs. It’s more surgery which at this point after just getting done with all my treatments in November I’m not really ready, I need a break from being a patient. It’s 6-8 hour surgery, with weeks of recovery, and possible additional surgeries to fine tune things. I don’t know what I’m going to do. Today I am good with my fake boobs, in1 or 2 years maybe I will want to proceed with surgery. It’s a personal choice and you have to do what makes you happy.
