Painful lump in left breast, what should I expect?
Hello everyone and thank you for taking the time to read my post!
I had my first ever lump in my right breast 3 years ago, it was easy to feel its shape and it never hurt, and moved somewhat easily. It turned out to be a mass of fribrous tissue.
This time I have a lump in my left breast, and it is very different from last time! It's very hard for me to tell the shape, it doesn't seem to move much, it is farily decent in size, it's become really painful now.
I have a long family history of breast cancer and gene mutation, I am 30 years old.
When my doctor examined it, she said my lump was the "gold star of concern" which wasn't very reassuring hahah.
So I have 2 main questions..
1: Can fibrous masses be really painful? The fibrous mass that I do have on the other side has never bothered me, and never felt painful, sore, or gave me any kind of pressure. The one in my left breast now, has me very tender overall, hurts a lot to press on it, and it also hurts when I don't touch it, sometimes I get random sharp pains in it. It has been a bit uncomfortable to wear my bra.
So can a fibrous mass cause this experience?
Question 2 is: For those who DID get breast cancer, what did your lump(s) feel like before you got diagnosed?
Luckily I am eligable for a free breast cancer program in my state, so I will be able to get screened soon, just want some more understanding in the meantime!

@christina94anne, welcome to BC.org! We're so sorry you haven’t received any responses yet, but we hope this post helps bring more visibility to your questions so others can share their experiences and support.
In the meantime, you might want to take a look at our article What Mammograms Show: Calcifications, Cysts, Fibroadenomas that reinforces that there are many other benign masses, including some that are especially common among young women.
Hope this helps. Please know you’re not alone, and we’re here to support you. Sending you lots of strength and hoping for answers and peace of mind soon! 💕

I am very appreciative that you responded to this! At the time I was in a pretty big state of denial so I shrugged it off for about a month 😅 But I got some pretty emotional news today that isn't looking too good. Just found out earlier today that I have a 3cm tumor 😔
Got my necessary appointments set up moving forward, though! And really gracious as I have no health insurance but there is a breast cancer foundation that operates local to me that is going to help me with all the medical stuff 💛0 -
@christina94anne, we are so sorry to hear of this worrisome news. Will your upcoming appointments include a biopsy? Here are some informational resources on how to navigate treatment when you don't currently have health insurance:
