Bilateral mastectomy and they missed the biopsy clip

Hello, I had a bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction implants for triple negative breast cancer on Ictober 21,2024. Pathology revealed no cancer in the limp nodes 😀but they did not find the biopsy clip( or the small tumor most likely). Have to go back for another surgery like a lumpectomy and possibly exchange of that implant. Pretty disappointing. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi @lydias, I'm sorry that you had this unusual occurence during your surgery. From what I've read it can be a surgical miss, the clip could have migrated or it could have inadvertently been suctioned out during surgery and left in equipment which has now been cleaned or destroyed (something similar to the last example happened to me during an EGD biopsy.) Of course they need to investigate to make sure the cancer is excised but this means the aggravation of a second surgery and worry for you. It's no fun to be one of the few who are impacted by a rare event but all you can do is move forward. Hugs for you.
