ER & PR positive, HER2 negative - chemo or no chemo??
Evening all, new here and looking for some opinions xx
In Nov 2024 i had surgery to remove cancer in my right breast after biopsy (Oct 2024) confirmed a 20mm core ER8, PR8 and HER 2+1.
The surgery wasn’t completely successful and the final histology reported it to be 47mm stage 3 ER8, PR positive and HER 2 negative with 1/4 lymph node involvement.
I had a 2nd surgery (Dec 2024) for a cavity shave which they are confident has removed all the cancer…results due Jan 17th.
In the meantime I have been asked whether I want to go down the chemo route before I start radiotherapy and hormone treatment. I am finding it difficult to make that decision, did anyone else find themselves in this position? Originally chemo was never on the table as it was assumed to be contained in the breast and no lymph node. I was just to have radio and hormone.
I am post menopausal and there doesn’t seem to be any evidence that chemo reduces the chances of reoccurrence for my cancer type, does anyone else have this type??
I dont want to have chemo unless it’s necessary but I don’t seem to be getting the answer to that, they just don’t know.
Would you put yourself through chemo anyway to cover all bases or have faith that this cancer type is low risk of reoccurrence anyways?
Any advice appreciated.

Hi @sunflower08, Since you are ER+ with one positive node have you spoken to your MO about having the Oncotype DX or another genomic test done? Those tests predict whether chemo would be beneficial to prevent recurrence. I had a 32 mm ER+PR+HER2- tumor with one positive node and my Oncotype score was 24. If it were 26 chemo would have been recommended. My MO said it was my choice so I followed the Oncotype recommendation and skipped it but had axillary radiation added by my RO because of the positive node. All the best for your treatment going forward.

thank you for your comment @maggie15 it’s really helpful to hear from someone who is has been in a similar position.
I actually spoke to my oncologist yesterday about the Oncotype DX. They believe the score probably won’t help me with this decision as it’ll be close to the 26…but have agreed to request the test.
I think if i had some sort of guide from a test it would help me.Thank you and hope you are well x

I had the same type and similar size, and surgery found a micromet in the sentinel mode, plus i needed a re-excisionfor a better margin. My MO was ready to order a port for chemo, when the oncotype came back with a score of 17. Definitely get the oncotype test.

Wow @alicebastable thats really interesting. Just shows they can never really know. I’ll wait for the Oncotype results before making a decision.
thank you x1 -
Hi
I have the same diagnose, er+, her2-, dcis, idc
Its been 3 months now, tomorrow i will meet my surgeon, to decide would i go the treatment or not
Deep in my heart i dont want to do the treatment, because i was searching and searching about the side effect of that conventional treatment
I am 100 % sure with my decision
