Hi @rigeene085, In the past a sentinel lymph node biopsy has usually been done for a double mastectomy for DCIS. However, given the very low rate of affected nodes found and the chance of causing lymphedema, research is suggesting that SNLB can be skipped in patients over 50 and/or those who do not have suspicious axillary lymph nodes on imaging.
If you have concerns about why SNLB was not done in your case you should contact your surgeon to ask why. It can be done as another surgery if you are worried about it. I hope you get an answer soon. All the best.
