ABUS results

Hello, I am 61yr F with history of benign tumors and extremely dense fibrocystic breasts. 6 months ago I had negative Mammo, with ABUS ordered, but delayed testing as local did not have ABUS. ABUS just completed with FINDINGS: RIGHT 1) MASS [A]: There is a mass seen in the right breast at 7 and 8 o'clock, 3 cm from the nipple. Unclear if this is truly an area of architectural distortion and acoustic shadowing or if artifactual.

A handheld US was now ordered but scheduling could only accommodate a month out from now. I am terrified wat the word MASS and do not fully understand the language. I have scared myself with googling the accuracy of ABUS which seems high and unlikely this is a false positive, just wondering if anyone has had similar findings that were unclear. Thank you in advance.

Hello @slimhealth, and welcome to Breastcancer.org! We're sorry you are here and worried, but glad you found us.

We know the word “mass” can be terrifying, but please keep in mind that many findings like this turn out to be benign masses, especially with a history of fibrocystic breasts. Until other members post with their experiences, the article What Mammograms Show: Calcifications, Cysts, Fibroadenomas from our main site may reassure you until your next appointment.

Hope this helps! Waiting is so hard, but you’re not alone.

    Wishing you all the best,
