Liver Lesion
Hello, All. I am coming up on seven years cancer free this summer after being dx with stage III breast cancer . Double Masectomy, removed ovaries and fallopian tubes. Several scares of reoccurrence over the years, but so far none. Enter Jan 2025! DExA scan shows osteoporosis so had blood work before starting Zometa to strengthen bones. In bloodwork, ALT and AST were elevated. (70 and 121)
Onc scheduled US to check liver. Waited TWO WEEKS for results; fatty liver, no Mets. I was happy and scheduled to see liver specialist for fatty liver, gallstones, and slightly borderline overdialated duct at the end of March.
ONE WEEK LATER, Onc calls. The Dr of radiology looked at my US again and says there is a 3.1 cm. Lesion. Need MRI to differentiate between fat and Mets!!! NO IDEA why there was a second look or a 3.1cm lesion was missed originally!!!
Had MRI Wednesday….now more waiting!!! Ughhh UPMC hospitals in Pittsburgh area have scan results with ridiculous wait times!! 2-3 WEEKS!
I’m so so afraid it’s Mets!!! Any one have a similar situation that it WASNT?! Also was due for a staging PET scan this summer at 7 year mark, I asked if they could do whole body MRI to make sure everything is clear because of course now I’m panicking. They said no full body MRI but would move up PET scan. Having PET scan on Friday. This all started in January and I’m so fearful for the bad news. Any possibility of good news for me?

@heatherpsalm34-4 , we’re thinking of you and hoping that it turns out to be nothing more than fatty liver. The waiting is so hard, but we're all here with you!
Hoping for the best possible news. Please keep us posted.

Hi @heatherpsalm34-4, We can keep each other company while waiting. When I went to my PCP wondering if increased fatigue was due to worsening anemia she ordered a CBC. My RBC count was the best it’s been in 7 years but my WBC count was elevated. After a couple of monthly checks the results were the same but there was no obvious cause; I figured something would show up eventually. My endocrinologist had ordered a routine CMP for my thyroid and osteopenia which came back with ALT of 290 and AST of 180. All the blood work for liver problems revealed nothing and my statin was stopped. A repeat liver function test was a bit lower at 240 and 150, better but still elevated. I have a liver US in two weeks.
I have also had my share of scares, most due to radiation damage to my lungs, esophagus, thyroid and right chest nerves from shoulder to bottom of rib cage. Dysplasia was removed from my esophagus and I’m having thyroid surgery in April. My lungs are being monitored for fibrosis spread and nodule growth. I also have an indeterminate bone lesion that can’t be biopsied in my acetabulum which has not grown but is being followed. So far no bc has been found and I’m hoping to keep the streak going with this.
You will probably get your results before I do. Hopefully the lesion will not be suspicious and fatty liver is the only issue. It’s hard not to worry but with all the practice I’ve had I can push it to the back of my mind now. All the best.
