Birads 4 after mammo

After a mammogram, I received the following results with two suspicious areas
BI-RADS 4
1st Mass:
• Shape: Irregular
• Density: Isodense
• Margins: Indistinct
2nd Mass:
• Shape: Round
• Density: Isodense
• Margins: Shadowed
Has anyone had a similar result? I was not given a subcategory. I have to wait until next week for a biopsy, and I’m really scared.
How concerning could this result be?

Hi @kokorose, I’m sorry that you are going through this stress of waiting for a biopsy. BIRADS 4 without a subcategory has a 5% to 95% chance of being malignant which is so broad it’s not helpful. Unfortunately imaging can’t tell whether the suspicious areas are cancer which is why a biopsy has to be done. 75% to 80% of breast biopsies are benign so the odds are good that yours will be, too. Come back and let us know how things turn out. Here’s hoping for benign!
