I have taken synthroid for years since my thyroid was removed. There are no conclusive studies suggesting there is an increased risk of breast cancer. There are just as many studies pointing to a protective factor preventing breast cancer. Besides, the option of not taking this drug really doesn’t exist. Try to not worry.

    Welcome @theclose33

First, we welcome you warmly to our community. This is a good question. Have you consulted with your medical oncologist about it? Thanks @tb90 for your response as well. Indeed, if you need it, you have to just go forward but important to get all the information possible.

Here's a meta-analysis:  https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7882351/  It found that HYPERthyroidism (overactive thyroid) and thyroid cancer are linked to a higher risk of breast cancer, while HYPOthyroidism (underactive thyroid) is linked to a lower risk of breast cancer. So I don't think someone taking thyroid hormone for an underactive thyroid would have to worry, but please consult with your treatment team, of course 😊
