DCIS

I’m 1 week post mastectomy and just received results of focal duct carcinoma in situ, intermediate nuclear grade without necrosis.
I’m low key freaking out right now and would like any information that someone could provide.
I opted for the mastectomy after I had a lumpectomy and mammogram that stated I have benign calcifications.

@stoni28 - Welcome to Breastcancer.org. We're sorry you have to be here for this, but glad you found us!
We know that DCIS sounds scary, but as you can read on our main site, "ductal carcinoma in situ, also known as stage 0 breast cancer, is non-invasive and not life-threatening." You can learn more about this type of cancer and treatment options here: DCIS (Ductal Carcinoma In Situ).
Also, since you’re recovering from surgery, you might want to connect with others going through the same thing. We have a dedicated thread for members having surgery in April. It’s a great space to share and ask questions: March/April 2025 Surgery Support Thread
Sending you a big hug and wishing you a smooth, speedy recovery.

Hi again @stoni28, we're just checking in on you since we haven't seen much of you since your first post. How is your mastectomy recovery going? Have you spoken with your doctor about your pathology results and what might be next in your treatment plan?
We're thinking of you!
