Surgery/reconstruction
I have my surgery for double mastectomy next week with reconstruction. How do you handle the anxiety? What do I need 2 know or have ready when I get home?

There’s lots of great information in this thread:

It’s completely normal to feel anxious before surgery—those feelings are valid and you're not alone. What helped me so much was repeating something a dear friend once told me: we are so lucky to be in this part of the world where we have access to this kind of care. There are so many women who never get this opportunity, and that perspective really shifted something in me. It brought a sense of calm and gratitude that helped me mentally prepare. I hope it brings you a little comfort too.

You really don’t want to lift your arms much in those first few days, so just being able to slip something on easily makes a difference. I also kept a soft pillow under my arm when resting, it sounds small but it helped me feel way less sore

I’d also like to say that recovery is not a competition. Our bodies are different and how we heal is different. While we’d like to move to feeling like life is back to normal after surgery, there are no awards for quickest recovery. Follow recommendations for movement, weight restrictions, etc., but also do what’s best to improve overall strength. Listen to your body and try to find a balance between resting and moving to regain strength.
I am currently recovering from difficult tx and working on that balance myself. Take care

Thank you so much for all your insight. I am trying 2 take it day by day. The waiting has been so stressful. But, I am hopeful that surgery and reconstruction will go well. I'll take my time to recover properly. It's waiting fir the treatment plan that has me know edge again. But...we are staying positive!
