Familial history of BC and risk

I had stage 1 idc at 47 successfully treated, and a cousin had dcis. I’m concerned about my adult daughter’s risk, especially since she has dense breasts. She will get her first mammogram this year, but does an MRI every other year help detect problems sooner? Are oral contraceptives risky, or only after a diagnosis?

hi there! I’m curious how old your daughter is? I have two daughters. 21 and 17. I carry a genetic mutation (chek2 ) that I need to screen them for. But wanted to wait till mid 20’s. My oldest daughter’s Dr hasn’t recommended any screenings yet. I need to address this soon with my oldest. But she’s had a rough few years and I don’t want to add anymore anxiety to what she’s already dealing with (unrelated to my cancer).

Hi @waves2stars,
Here's some information for you and your daughter on how and when to screen when there's a family history of breast cancer:
And info on birth control and breast cancer risk:
We hope this helps!

@monarchandmilkweed My daughter is 32. Her doctor recommended ultrasounds of the breast at around 28, I think. They did not want to expose her to any radiation with mammograms too early so this year will be her first. I don’t carry any known mutations for breast cancer.
