Follow up imaging after having radial scars
if you have had radial scars diagnosed and removed what was the ongoing follow up monitoring recommended by your surgeon?
12 months ago I had two radial scars removed at age 32. I had an ultrasound 1 yr post surgery and imaging was all ok - BIRADS 2.
I am meant to follow up with my surgeon for the post 1yr mark. However, with clear imaging results I do not want to waste their time.
just wondering what others experience is- do you go on to have ongoing regular imaging or not?
thanks :)

Good morning, I had ALH and they found two large radial scars with no cancer around it. The full lumpectomy removed all. My follow up care is every six months alternating an MRI with Gadolinium in both breasts and a mammo and sono. Hope this helps!

Hi @emmay92, As someone who had (and still has) radial scars I would follow up with any imaging recommended by the surgeon. I was treated for stage 2 IDC and the pathology found numerous radial scars in my tumor margins. Radial scars grow in a tissue environment that is favorable for breast cancer. Chances are excellent that nothing will be found but if anything develops it is good to catch it early. All the best.
