What to do with old Flexi-Touch equipment?

Several years back, I was prescribed a Flexi-Touch pump. The garments I wore had velcro closures and I used the pump daily until the seams on the garments started getting holes in them probably from being pumped up daily for several years and they eventually wore out. I understand that now they have zippers instead of velcro closures. The garments were worn out but what do I do with my old pump? I assume that it would be specific to my old garment and is obsolete and probably needs to be taken to where they recycle electronics but I do not know for sure. Anyone know what to do with old pumps?

    Hi @cowgal !

Great question. In most cases, the Flexitouch pump itself isn’t obsolete, even if the old garments wore out. The pump is usually compatible with newer garments, including the zippered ones.

    A few suggestions:

    • Contact the manufacturer (Tactile Medical: https://tactilemedical.com ) or your original DME supplier — they can tell you if your pump works with current garments or help you order replacements.
    • If you no longer need it and it can’t be reused, the manufacturer may also advise on proper return or recycling.
    • If it truly can’t be used, electronic recycling is typically appropriate. Just be sure any personal information is removed first.

Hopefully it can still be useful to you with new garments — definitely worth checking before disposing of it.
