Abnormal mammogram but normal ultrasound
Hi!
I’m 40 and there’s a history of breast cancer in my family. Therefore I have to have a mammogram and ultrasound every year.
I went last Tuesday. They had to do the mammogram several times because the first images were vague. Then I had the ultrasound. The doctor told me that there is a tissue in my left breast that wasn’t there last year on the mammogram but the ultrasound was perfect. She wants me to do a MRI « as a precaution » and I’m going on Thursday. I’m really worried. I don’t feel a lump. Has it happened to anyone? Thanks

Hi @elma24 and welcome to our Community!
We're really sorry for the worries that bring you here, but we're really glad you've found us. You're sure to find a valuable network of support here while you figure out what's going on — we're all here for you!
A breast MRI was likely ordered just to make sure your doctors are crossing all T's and dotting all the I's to get a better picture of everything in your breast. As you're still young, it's likely you have dense breasts, and with a family history of breast cancer, it's always good to take some extra steps to make sure doctors can determine all is well. We know it's scary and worrisome to have additional testing, but it's very likely there's nothing to worry about. It's good your doctors are taking extra precautions to rule out any serious concerns.
We're sure others will be by soon to weigh in with their experiences with screening techniques and how they managed the wait for results. Hang in there!
In the meantime, here's some helpful info on what MRIs show, why it's done, how to prepare, and what to expect:
We hope this helps. Keep us posted with what you find out!
