Cyberknife Inflammatory muscle response

Anyone have side effects after cyberknife to the spine? I was fine for two weeks after thoracic rads and then bam - significant band like pain across my back in that area - stiffness, soreness, etc. It has subsided some, and has moved around, but still there two weeks later. I was put on a course of steroids so getting better but it is concerning since it’s been two weeks and still not completely resolved. Seems like it’s not common but also does happen. Anyone else?

    Hi @tack33,

We’re really sorry you’re dealing with this. That kind of pain showing up after things seemed fine can be pretty unsettling, so it makes total sense that you’re concerned.

We’ve heard from other members that side effects after spine radiation don’t always show up right away. Some describe stiffness, soreness, or band-like pain that can move around or take longer than expected to settle, which can be worrying.

It’s encouraging that the steroids are helping, even if things aren’t completely resolved yet. If you haven’t already, though we suggest checking in with your radiation oncologist - even through the portal to share symptoms so they are in the "know." Maybe they will want to see you even.

Hopefully others here who’ve had CyberKnife or spine radiation will jump in and share what their experience was like. You’re definitely not alone in wondering about this.

Please keep us posted on how you’re doing, and feel free to ask or vent anytime. We’re glad you’re here.
