46 years old IDC 1a Lumpectomy on Monday
Hi all, looking to connect with women going through the same kind of BC that I am. Whether just diagnosed, just had surgery or just started treatment. I feel it’s easier to talk to “strangers” about it. I haven’t told many people yet. Please reach out 🙏❤️

Hi, I was also diagnosed with IDC and had a lumpectomy on Dec 19. Surgery went well, pain wasn’t bad. It took me longer than I expected to recover my energy but I think that was just my expectation. I expected to be back to normal in a few days and it was closer to 10 days.
I haven’t wanted to talk about it a whole lot either. It’s been tough to go through this and I feel like I have to minimize it to others. Yes, I am grateful that it’s stage 1 and a lumpectomy and radiation but it’s still hard.
I hope your surgery goes well. Take the time you need to recover.0 -
Thank you for responding. Did you have oncoplastic after the lumpectomy? And match the right side by getting reduction/lift? Did you need drains? Sooo many questions.

I just had the lumpectomy. It never occurred to me to ask what my breast would look like afterwards. I think I was just so happy to not need a mastectomy that I didn’t think beyond that. I’m a B/C cup and had a 3 cm section removed. I had swelling after surgery then a seroma and now swelling from radiation. All of those are typical so nothing to worry about. It just means that I still don’t know what my breast will look like. I’ll ask my surgeon at my 3 month follow up but I do wish I had asked earlier. I can’t imagine that I won’t have some kind of a dent but we’ll see. Oh, and no drains. I think the tumor was small enough not to need that. I had 12 mm of IDC and 20 mm of DCIS.

After a thorough discussion from the breast surgeon of reoccurrence risk and other outcomes, I opted for the lumpectomy; had it in November. I thought it interesting to read in Dr Susan Love's Breast Book that breast tissue is not limited to the breasts but lay along the whole chest line pretty much from collarbone to ribs. Reading that REALLY made me glad I'd decided on the lumpectomy.
Will you join tomorrow's Zoom meet at 1pm ET? It's a great place to be.
